So much time has passed since she was on vacation last time. No wonder that it didn't take the wolf long to decide and give a nod while replying "Of course, why not?!".
You could see the fox' smile brighten. After quite a while without them really getting a chance to see each other it felt like a big relief. The next days went by with little planning sessions and decision-making on where to travel. Both settled for something near the ocean.
First thing to come in mind was Mallorca. Sure it wasn't the season, but neither minded at all. Less tourists means a more quiet trip. So they packed their bags and took the plane southwest.
The hotel was nice and seemed much unlike Jacki's travel nightmare back from school. Obviously 4-star hotel doesn't mean the same in Italy as it does in Germany. Falling apart furniture, clogged drains and resulting wet bathroom, salad full of flies....the list could go on. From her business-trips Jacki knew quite well that Spain has to offer quite a bit, when travelling to the right spots. Most of the country was rather scarce though. Wide ares that almost appeared desert-like, many people had a low life standard. But then there are those regions bristling with life and technological progress.
Sure this little island was one of them. Completely targeted towards tourists, you had everything from nice, comfy hotels with all the luxury you could ask for to nice, bright blue water and awesome sand.
After unpacking their belongings in their shared room, both canines got acquainted with their room, then relaxed and stretched out from the flight. Since it was already the time of the day they settled for making their way out and look for lunch. Being the strangers they are, even with modern smartphones, it took them a while. At least it was a chance to talk more, about old days and where their individual journeys of life has taken them. Mallorca turned out pretty german-friendly with all the little details made to fit the foreign audience. Ordering your meal really isn't an adventure, but it helped in making your stay a pleasure. Of course Mallorca's main attraction are the many beaches.
Trotting along it never takes you much time to come across one. Water as blue and pure as could be, sand almost white, both luring you in to come and take a swim. Jacki could feel her friend's grip on her paw tighten. Just now she realized he was doing that for a while. Without further ado he tugged her along with him, laughing about how he dared her jumping into the ocean with him.
"But I didn't bring my swim-wear!", she protested. "Good thing this is the right beach then!"
Jacki was all startled...what difference could there be? After a while of confusion, paws already digging into the sand, he pointed towards a sign - Nude Beach. Now it all made sense! Jacki blushed underneath her dark fur, her cheeks all hot. But her friend seemed all happy, his clothes already flying off...and she couldn't help but go along with it, be it just to please her friend.
"First one hitting the water gets the balcony side of the bed!", he dared her, already about to run, but dammit, Jacki wouldn't just let him win. He really made a run for it though and ultimately it was his paw touching water first. Jacki chasing right behind him. So it was all settled. What he didn't know: she preferred the other side of the bed anyway.
"Awr, crap...you won...", Jacki pouted. "Oh I so did, lazy-butt!"
"Hey, I wasn't that much slower..." "Not much, but still enough! Ha! Look at that guy over there...he dresses like a turkey - hilarious!"
"Where?"
Jacki had to turn around, her back facing the beach still. The wolf's eyes scanned for someone sticking out. Quick motion later she found herself tugged backwards right into the water along with her friend. Taken by surprise she panicked a little, darted back for the surface, salty water already in her nose, making it's inside burn. Just a moment later the water gave way for her friend's orange-ish fur. Smiling wide she just shoved him hard. "Dammit you idiot! Never ever do that again!", Jacki growled. It couldn't make his overall positive attitude fade. "Awr, why not, you look so sexy when you're wet". Somehow, she couldn't explain why, but it made her smile. "Hm! Dork!"
Slowly his arms came up to hug the wolf, her own arms doing the same and he squeezed her wet fur against his own. It felt natural, not forced or anything. Jacki smiled to her friend and he smiled down at her. Mere seconds passed, but it felt like calm minutes where you feel all safe and sound.
It was only the first day of their vacation.
