It was over.
The necessary dark deed was done, the tyrant disposed of forever.
But before any celebration could happen, before the long and arduous process of reconstruction could occur, some heavy, private matters had to be attended to. With this in mind, and not with a little trepidation, Simba pulled his mother aside and into the cave in which he had spent so many mornings rising alongside his father.
"I'm so sorry, mom, I killed him…"
"No, no, NO, did you not see what just happened? That monster did it, it was not in the least your doing!"
"But I didn't know that… all this time I understood it was me, and I.. I just couldn't face you having killed your husband. I'm sorry I never returned, I couldn't come back like that, can you forgive me?"
"You're asking ME for forgiveness? I let you go. When they brought back his broken body, yours was not with it, and I just took that worm at his word that you were gone too. How could I, as a mother, assume the death of my child on faith, and not even seek your remains to bear witness with my own eyes?"
"…"
"In the most important matters of life and death, I failed you as a parent. It is I who needs to stand before YOU and plead forgiveness. Will you lift this pain from me?"
"…of course. If we both have stumbled, we both can still find grace in each other. That's what family is for."
