While there was little doubt that he would produce plenty of heirs with his betrothed Amelia, a second cousin on her mother’s side. Dukes, advisors, and clergy worried greatly about a weak king. A question that became important all of a sudden when the firstborn of King Menius died under mysterious circumstances during a hunt in the royal woods.\n\nMarius was crowned King at age 19. Yet with a ruler who knew the eye color of every whore in the capital but barely remembered the names of his royal advisors, the young King’s faux pas and errors mounted up quickly. Not that he didn’t take governing seriously. One might even call Marius III ambitious, but skipping vital lessons for nights in the brothels revealed his shortcomings quickly.\n\nShortcomings that were used mercilessly by some of the more ambitious Duchies. Especially the nobility of the Duchy of Menburg. An old noble family of Squirrels who desired the crown for decades spotted their opportunity. They forged an alliance with the Count of Three Rivers, the wealthiest city in the realm, and the Duchy of Farnberg, a family of Mice nobility. The civil war raged for 2 years, but eventually, the combined forces of the usurpers marched on Halingburg, the last stronghold of Marius III, and after 5 months of siege, the now 22 years young King was stripped of his title, estate, and treasure and thrown into the dungeon and likewise was his wife, the Queen.\n\nMarius’s trial was an event to behold. Nobility and clergy from all over the realm came to witness. The former King was made to walk in naked and dirty after being imprisoned for many months. Hundreds of eyes stared at his exposed body. Those people would have paid utmost respect to this very Rat just a year before. Some showed pity, some were shocked, many that got a whiff of his odor were disgusted, while others couldn’t hold back their amusement or joy for the former King’s downfall. But they all whispered while his naked footsteps echoed through the large court hall.\n\nMarius kneeled before the new King while kissing the Squirrel’s feet and begging for forgiveness. Plead for mercy on behalf of his fallen House. Since the new ruler wanted to prove his wisdom and benevolence, he showed mercy. Less prominent branches of House Minius were permitted to keep their belongings and titles if they pledged allegiance to House Menburg. Though, for the King and his closest relatives, they were spoken guilty.\n\nMost of them were sentenced to life in the dungeon with no parole. But for the King, as the head of his fallen House, he had to endure more. The wise and fair sentence for “false King” Marius was a life in servitude stripped of his freedom and manhood. The Rat still kneeled and licked the new King’s feet as he listened to the ruling. The bards praised the Squirrel for his clemency and made his fairness known throughout the realm. If Marius had a different opinion, he was no more in a position to voice them. After his cock was publicly removed by unfeeling machinery, he was sold on the slave market.\n\nAnd thus ended the line of Rat Kings of House Minius after 150 years of rule.\n\nFor Marius, who will be remembered as Marius the Randy.
