Dead City – Book I Chapter I – Tony’s Apartment – 4.35a.m Tony Perette sits at his desk, flipping through the pages of his book. Taking a sip of his lukewarm coffee every now and then, exhaling pleasurably each sip. It is a silent night. Not so much as the odd car passing by to break the dull silence. Time passes, untainted as it is. Tony eventually stands up and sighs, his coffee in hand. He walks slowly over to his couch and sits down as he switches the T.V on. As the T.V switches on, Tony notices the grainy blur on the screen, the silence which replaces the sound which should be there. Sighing, Tony switches the T.V off again and listens to the nearing thumps which make Tony curious. Tony moves swiftly to the window... Chapter II – Tony’s Apartment – 4.52a.m As Tony peeks out the window, his curiosity is fulfilled. Lots of them, wandering the streets aimlessly, something Tony had never seen before. He watches in a horrified state, pondering what they were. They looked human, but with scratches to horrify their bodies, blood to dribble down their faces, teeth that seemed to be close to danger sharp. Tony was your average movie addict, mainly horror and action he enjoyed watching. He had a very distinctive interest in Zombies. Which was what Tony could only image these beings as. Tony was in some sort of distress, he didn’t know what to know. Tony just grabbed a few things which were important to him and also grabbed a baseball bat for protection. He swiftly ran downstairs towards the front door when he noticed it, standing in the corner, twitching every now and then, watching Tony while softly growling. Tony stumbles back into the wall with a disgusted face and the figure that stood before him. The figure shambled toward him slowly. “Stay back!” Tony shouts loudly. The figure continued to slowly shamble towards Tony. As it came into light, Tony recognized that it was one of the horrific zombies that lurked outside in the dark night. Tony charged at the zombie and whammed the bat into the side of the zombies head. If the sheer force of the swing didn’t kill it, the wall next to the zombie would have. Tony breaths deeply and sits down on one of the steps of the stairs. He shakes his head as he thinks to himself, ‘What am I going to do?’. Tony stands up and brushes the speckles of dust and dirt off his shoulders. He walks over to his front door and clutches the door handle, turning it slowly which made a tiny creak... Chapter III – Streets – 5.01a.m Tony stares into the cold air of the night, looking around him. The whole street filled with zombies, some looking different than others, bigger, smaller, some without legs, some without skin. Tony starts to walk down his street. He walks over old newspaper articles and trash flying around everywhere. Tony notices every unusual imperfection. There were cars just piled up and stuck in the street, cars that have crashed into buildings and even piles among piles of dead bodies. Tony was weary, looking down every alleyway and look behind him every now and then. So far none of the few zombies had spotted him. Tony believed this was because it was a quiet neighbourhood he lived in. Tony could hear a helicopter in the distance. He tried to listen a bit harder because Tony thought that there might be another survivor flying the helicopter. The helicopter was nearing towards where Tony currently stood. Tony still kept looking around him, to make sure nothing was moving towards him. Everything was very quiet still. Tony looked up in the sky again until something blinds him, a spotlight of some sort. Then Tony noticed the helicopter, with a spotlight surveying his street. “If there are any survivors, head to Mercy Hospital for evacuation” the helicopter pilot says over his speaker. Tony takes a note of this as he begins to move a bit swifter down the street, holding his bat firmly. Up ahead there was a massive car pile-up. Tony realised there was no other way past it and he didn’t take to the idea of moving in the opposite direction of Mercy Hospital. Then Tony notices there was a car that obviously had crashed into the wall. The hole in the wall was massive and it led to a series of apartments... Chapter IV – Apartments - 5.13a.m Tony entered through the hole into someone’s apartment. Tony didn’t care that he just entered some random person’s apartment. He was in the middle of a zombie apocalypse; all Tony currently cared about was his survival. He figured the person who lived in the apartment was most likely dead anyway. He moved through the apartment, searching through every room for supplies to help him on his trip. The best he found was a few medical supplies to help keep him healthy and bandaged up. He walked upstairs and looked at the living room before him. “This place is a mess” Tony says quietly to himself. Tony looks around the living room, books are tossed everywhere, the windows are smashed, the couch is scratched. The whole living room looked like there had been a struggle between two people or...other things. Tony stepped through the living room wearily, looking for any possible way to go. While looking around, Tony heard some weird breathing, coming from the bathroom of the apartment. Holding his bat firmly, he goes to investigate the noise emanating from the bathroom, stepping over chairs and clothes and any other debris in the way. As he nears the bathroom, he is greeted by a zombie pouncing at him. Tony slams into ground with a thump, gasping a bit while pushing this zombie off his chest. Tony scrambles away, trying to grab onto anything to help him get back onto his feet. Tony grabs the table and quickly jumps back onto his feet, swinging the bat as he swivels around. The zombies face is greeted with a wooden bat with a lot of force pummelling through it. The zombie falls on the ground, smashing a photo. Tony breaths in as he sees another figure emerging from the bathroom. He looks at his bat, seeing that half of it is stuck in the fallen zombies head. He drops the other half and looks for anything to defend himself with. “Stuff it!” Tony says as he grabs a stool and rams it into the zombies face, splashing blood onto the wall behind the zombie. Tony drops the chair, also sending the zombie to the ground. Tony walks to the kitchen figuring he could grab a large kitchen knife for protection. Tony looks for a way out again. Outside the living room window was a rusty but sturdy fire escape. Tony slides the window open, wiping his hands onto his jeans. The bottom of the fire escape is broken, making it too high for Tony to jump off. So Tony goes the opposite way up to the roofs.... To be continued in Book 2... Ethan Bridge a.k.a Vmigo
