TL;DR for the below: After talking about some of the mockup sketches for level backgrounds, I outline ideas I have for the Milkroom (male-milking) level of the game.

Hybrid Farmer takes place in a converted oil rig. Eventually I'd like to have a start cutscene with a helicopter (and you, the newest employee!) landing at the lab. Once you disembark, you'll be greeted by Dr. Moreaux and escorted to your desk through a hallway like this:

This is a more detailed take on the Nursery background. I'm still experimenting with how to correctly handle the perspective in the scene, since the room is big, the cubs can kind of run everywhere, and there's no resizing of their sprites -- it's hard to keep a convincing illusion of depth when everything else in the room is drawn receding into the background!

The desk is drawn here at an angle. However, everything else in the game is drawn front-facing, so for consistency I'll probably rotate this camera to match the rest. Interactables in the room include the papers, wall calendar, lab manual, catalog, phone, and letterbox. (You can check out the GDD to learn more about what they do.) Personally, I think the office still needs more design to feel like it's part of an oil rig -- I'll tinker with the walls, ceiling and window scene and see how that helps.

Here's one of the Milkroom stalls. I imagine that harvesting operations take place indoors in the very center of the oil rig complex -- in the rig's 'basement' so to speak. Older pipes and structural supports are intact, and smaller pipes used for milking and water/cleanup have recently been added. I'll try some tricks with the perspective (or tune the scrolling effect itself) to support rooms bigger than one screen, since this mockup is drawn with strong one-point perspective. (Side-scrolling is needed since cubs won't always automatically approach captive males without your intervention.)

Now...
In the milkroom, your job is to masturbate the males and harvest their protein-rich semen which has all kinds of uses at the lab. In the hybrid bioengineering, to maximize the birth rate and trigger frequent heat cycles in the females without litters, the males were engineered to produce spoo with nutritious, milk-like properties so THEY could feed the cubs (leaving the females free to breed). What didya think was in those bottles back in the Nursery? <.<
To keep the males potent, they must be milked daily, regardless if the milk is disposed or saved.
To milk a hybrid male:
- Cycle the milking stall. This involves choosing the male, equipment, and restraints. You have to balance the time-cost of setting stuff up against the different machinery needed to finish each particular milking.
- With the male properly restrained, if he's not erect already, fluff him till he's hard.
- Harvest him (milking quota) or fap him (care quota).
I don't have a mockup sketch for the cycling step, but basically: you'll have the portraits and stats of males in your daily queue; your inventory items; and available milking equipment in lists to choose from. As you configure the stall, you'll see how much time it'll cost to set stuff up -- set up and tear down is expensive, but leaving equipment intact between sessions carries little cost. (You might configure a couple stalls for burn, a couple for harvesting, and one for dealing with cub feedings, for example.) When you're ready to go, you'd commit your configuration and a rolling door would close until the stall's ready. (This'll be a good opportunity to walk away and manage another stall.)
Males will always be restrained with a simple harness (to keep them from lying down) and shackles (to keep them from mauling you or walking away). Later, you'll be able to upgrade these restraints to add efficiency or deal with special situations.

To fluff a waiting male, there are several tools you can use:
- Find and rub his erogenous zones. The mouse cursor will change when you mouse over various body parts. Clicking and holding changes the cursor to an animated handpaw that will do the skritching.
- You can also do stimulating things to his sheath, balls, and tailhole. Clicking with the appropriate cursor will open an animation popup, which lets you work (and watch) the fluffing in finer detail. For example, you can squeeze, tug, or fondle his balls; caress, spread, or finger his anus; and squeeze, fondle, or finger his sheath...
- You might give him a stamina injection or puff some pheromones in his face.
- In some cases, you may need to swat his flank to rile him up. <.<
- Hungry, well-trained cubs may even end up fluffing him for you. How convenient would that be!

If he reacts well to your fluffing, you'll see him going erect. Different males have different preferences, and you can piss them off too, requiring other techniques to calm them back down.
By default you'll be able to choose between a basic milking machine or your handpaw and a bucket. You can harvest or masturbate him with any of the milking machines; if you're not keeping the milk, just switch the output hose to the disposal coupling. (Not shown in the mockup, but it'll be there.) When meeting the care quota, you can also fap him directly onto the floor grate; it costs slightly more time to clean up the mess, but the technique can be used in any stall without adding additional equipment.
From the Desk, you can upgrade the Milkroom equipment in several ways:
- There are specialized milkers that provide a fapping motion, vibration, or e-stim. Once you deploy these you can use your free handpaw to do stimulating things to his butt or balls, or adjust controls on other machines, etc.
- Anal equipment includes an assortment of butt plugs and dildos, used to increase the speed and quality of milking. You can work the dildos yourself, or buy a piston pump machine to free up your handpaw.
- You can attach hydraulic rack mounts to the ceiling. Adding one in the back lets you use a lightweight piston pump machine, and adding one in the front allows installing automatic pheromone dispensers to help keep him horny.
- Additional harnesses can be attached to the default one. You can get a coupling for his tail to make butt stuff easier, or one for his neck to keep him from nipping at cubs trying to nurse.
- If he's really misbehaving, you can also add certain headgear, each tack serving a different purpose.
My plan for the game is to allow players to configure the various machines in fairly complex ways, but carefully design the characters and equipment in neat, compartmentalized ways to make it all reasonably drawable/codeable. ;))
