"writing": "Chapter 2: Settling In\n\nThe morning came and Kai was sleeping comfortably on his back, tucked in the bed; wrapped in the blankets except for his head. It was different than when he had fallen asleep in the arms of his host. The bed was still comfortable, even without the extra body against him. The sunlight peered through the window and the sounds of the streets were muffled against the pane of the glass. Soon, a smell flowed in from the vents. It was the smell of breakfast being cooked, slowly making its way into the room filling it with its aroma. Kai could hear muffled noises coming from downstairs, the most noticeable one being Sven as he made his way through the hall and into the kitchen.\n\nIt wasn’t the smell or the faint noise of muffled voices coming from outside the room that woke him up. It was a blurry dream that he couldn't make sense of all too well, but Sol was certainly in it. The Dewott woke with a slight start as he found himself muttering the Guilmon's name in a sensual manner and he immediately tried to sit up. It took a moment to free himself from the blanket’s coils. Thankfully, Sol was already up. Having the red dragon around to hear him just now would have been awkward to say the least.\n\nThe water type's cheeks heated up when he realized that he was sporting quite the morning wood. Being a male, he was used to waking up like this often, but there could be no doubt that it was directly linked to him having dreamt of Sol in an undoubtedly sexual manner. To Kai's further embarrassment, the way his waist in particular had been wrapped almost seemed a bit odd. It didn't look as though his member had forced its way against the blanket but instead as though the blanket had been wrapped around it as well.\n\nThe Dewott felt his face heat up even more. Did Sol notice upon waking up? What if the Guilmon had heard Kai say something bizarre in his sleep? What was he even doing, going around thinking such inappropriate things about his host who he has known for less than a day? His face still flushed, Kai removed the blanket and felt grateful that he could tell the door was closed despite his poor eyesight, meaning that no one might spot his predicament by walking through the hall. Hearing the door open would give him some time to react. He got out of bed hurriedly, before pouting in annoyance.\n\nWhere were his glasses again? Oh, right, on that nightstand on the side of the bed Sol had slept on. He slowly made his way around the bed, accidentally bumping a toe against one of its legs. Kai’s face contorted and his toes curled as the sharp, sudden pain screamed its way through his body. Why didn't he just get onto the bed in order to get to the other side? He pondered that while taking a moment for his foot to realize that it wasn’t about to implode and for the pain to die down. After finding his glasses, Kai's nose suddenly caught a very pleasant scent. It appeared someone was preparing breakfast and it smelt delectable. He could make out Sven's voice from downstairs. Might as well not take the chance that they'll wait for him to wake up and just go to the kitchen as quickly as possible.\n\nKai’s sudden remembrance of Sol as he realized the Digimon in question was most likely the one cooking and the brief flashes of the dream he could remember caused his face to heat up as his dying erection had returned to full mast. He sighed in annoyance and hurried to the bathroom, making sure to close the door behind him. After washing his face and waiting a bit for his member to retreat back into his shaft which, thankfully, did not take too long, the Pokémon left the bedroom and went downstairs. He took a deep breath, mentally preparing himself, before heading inside. Sure enough Yami, Sven and Sol were all already there.\n\n\"G-Good morning...\" he muttered quietly, feeling another blush threaten to creep onto his cheeks when he looked at the red dragon and waved briefly in greeting. \n\n\"I... I hope I haven't kept you waiting for me...\" It didn't look as though they were just about ready to start eating so maybe he hasn't.\n\n\"I, uh,\" he cleared his throat, scratching the back of his head, \"I must have been more tired than I thought...\"\n\n\"Good morning!\" Sol called out from the sizzling of the stove.\n\nSven jumped off the chair and ran with a giggle and a smile, leaping onto Kai in a tight and loving embrace.\n\n\"Morning!!\" He said before letting go and running back to his seat. \n\nKai was a little taken by surprise when Sven rushed towards him and hugged him tightly. Not that he mind. He just hadn't seen it coming despite having been warned of Sven's energy and witnessed it himself, especially with the things he had weighing on his mind. He briefly returned the gesture but didn't get a chance to say good morning in return before the Giramon took off and headed back towards his chair, nearly tripping over on the way there. He was about to ask the little Digimon whether he was alright but that seemed unnecessary.\n\n\"Sven, why can't you stop running in the house? You're going to get hurt one of these days.\" Yami said, then looked at Kai. \"Hey. Hope it wasn't too difficult sleeping in a strange world.\"\n\nThe Dewott looked at Yami, managing a small smile and a nod. \"I slept well, thank you...\" Really, the bed had been so nice. Especially with Sol to cuddle with, though the water type forced the thought out of his mind.\n\n\"Oh, that reminds me... Kai will be living here for the foreseeable future and under my care while he stays in this world.” Said Sol, coming over to the table with plates of eggs, bacon and pancakes. “So, you can be sure to be expecting a lot of him around here, he is now part of the family.\" He placed one in front of Sven, Yami and one where Kai would sit.\n\n\"Kai is going to be my brother!? Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!\" Sven cheered. \n\nYami seemed indifferent overall. \"Good” He said. “Means he can do chores around here as well.\"\n\n\"Oh,\" Kai quickly added, \"I wouldn't mind helping with chores at all. I was going to suggest it myself... I wouldn't feel comfortable if I just stayed here without doing anything for you in return...\"\n\nSol chuckled before going over to the fridge and pulling out a pitcher of freshly squeezed orange juice, \"He will be added to the chores list in due time. I want to at least let him settle in first. Kai, I'm glad you slept well. It was nice having someone by my side again. Sven doesn't have nearly as many nightmares anymore and Yami is, well, Yami.\" Sol walked over to a cabinet, grabbing a few cups and bringing them over to the table. For a Digimon with only three claws, one could only imagine the amount of practice it took to use them so practically. He poured a cup for each of them and placed them respectfully.\n\n\"Sven can't be coddled forever, we've spoken about this Sol and no offense, but I'm not exactly fond of you holding me all night.\" Yami replied, beginning to eat.\n\n\"I don't mind spending a night with Sol whenever he wants!\" Sven spoke up.\n\n\"Maybe some nights Sven, but not every night.” Said Sol. “Yami is definitely right. Besides, I'll have Kai for now since we don't have a fourth bedroom.\"\n\n\"I want to spend a night with Kai too!\" Sven spoke up.\n\nThe conversation suddenly shifting once more to sleeping arrangements made the Dewott remember last night again. As wonderful as it had been, he was worried that he would eventually be found out by Sol, which would be really awkward and unpleasant. Just this morning had been dreadful enough, but he managed not to blush at the thought of it. Sven suddenly speaking up, however, gave him an idea.\n\n\"Er, I wouldn't mind...\" he muttered. It was some sort of a getaway option, as much as he was tempted to continue spending the nights in Sol's room. \"I mean, if you really want to...\" It seemed like Sven did and he'd also hate to disappoint the cute little guy. That is if Sol wouldn't have a problem with something like that, of course.\n\nSol shook his head, \"I don't mind at all, but Sven's bed is incredibly small compared to mine. Though with your size, you should be fine, and I have enough data on your species sleeping habits to sate my inquisition. I'll have plenty of time to learn more, it's not every day I have a study subject in the comfort of my own home.\" Sol got a plate for himself and sat down at the table. \"Come and eat Kai, before your eggs grow cold.\" Sol asked.\n\nKai found it difficult to not have a physically visible reaction when Sol began talking about already having enough data on a Dewott's sleeping habit. Oh no, he must have seen it! Kai’s fear had been realized and he couldn’t prevent the extreme embarrassment from overtaking his thoughts. The only thing the water type could hope was that he hadn't made any weird noises or worse, said anything in his sleep. Sleeping with Sven was definitely looking like a safer option. Surely, he'd sleep normally and not have any inappropriate dreams if he wasn't cuddling with the Digimon he appeared to be attracted to. Giving Sol a quiet, quick nod, Kai went ahead and joined the others at the table.\n\n\"Yay! I got a sleeping buddy! We're gonna stay up aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall night and play games!\" Sven exclaimed. \n\nYami looked at him, \"Please, you'll be out like a light before your head even hits the pillow.\" Sven glared at Yami and stuck out his tongue. Yami looked at Kai, \"Remember what I said if Sven becomes a problem.\" Yami said.\n\nKai chuckled softly at Sven's enthusiasm and the remark Yami shot in the Giramon's direction, but offered the Veemon a dismissive wave when he mentioned his advice from the previous day. He very seriously couldn't see himself kicking anyone let alone someone so adorable. Besides, the Dewott was still certain that Yami had only been kidding at the time.\n\nSol turned his head after very quickly finishing his food with only a few bites. \"So Kai, the library, you are set to go, aren't you? Would you like me to accompany you?\" He asked, pulling away from the table and making himself a cup of coffee.\n\n\"Library?\" Yami questioned.\n\n\"Well... I wouldn't want you to go out of your way, but I still have no idea where the library is... So, uh, I would like that very much...\" He said in response to Sol before looking at Yami. \"Oh, yes. There's no better way to learn more about your world than to go read some books.\" He smiled. \"Plus Sol said they might be hiring...\" Having said that, he helped himself to a bite from a pancake, once again using his scallops to cut his food. From the look on his face, he really liked it. \"This is amazing!\" he couldn't help but remark, making sure to swallow first. His mother never liked it when he spoke with his mouth full. \"What do you call this?\" he asked, helping himself to another slice.\n\n\"That is a pancake or a flapjack.“ Said Sol. “Two names for the same thing. I learned how to make this a few years ago after traveling to the human world. It is a simple culinary dish but tastes fantastic.\"\n\nYami looked at Kai and gave a smile, \"You think they taste good like that?” He asked. “See that syrup in the middle? Pour that on them and then give it a taste.\"\n\nSven nodded as his own pancakes were overflowing with the syrup, \"They taste so goooooood!\" He said.\n\nKai thought quietly for a moment. Pancakes as in cakes that are made in a pan, right? That was a neat name, even if a little on the nose. He looked at Yami briefly and then to that bottle of syrup on the middle of the table before reaching out for it and pouring some over his pancakes. Just like the Veemon had said, they tasted a lot better that way! The eggs and the bacon were also incredibly delicious. Sol sure was an excellent cook. He was amazing in so many ways… no, not the time to think about that again.\n\nSol continued with his coffee as the three spoke, taking a newspaper from the counter and sitting back down in his chair to read it. \"Take your time eating Kai, we will go when you're ready.\" He said.\n\n\"Can I come?\" Sven asked.\n\n\"Of course, Sven.” Replied the guilmon. “I'm not going to leave you home alone.\"\n\n\"I guess I'll go try and find another job, as usual. I'll be home by dinner more than likely.\" Yami said getting up from the chair and taking his empty plate to the sink. The Veemon grabbed his pouch with the phone in it and put it around his waist. He walked past Kai and patted his shoulder, \"Welcome to the family bud.\" He said in passing heading towards the door.\n\nKai quickly swallowed the bite he had in his mouth as Yami walked past him and patted him on the shoulder. \n\n\"Thanks, Yami!\" he said, smiling as the Veemon left.\n\n\"Bye Yami!!\" Sven called out.\n\n\"Call me if you're going to be late again or bring home any more Pokémon okay?\" Sol said. \n\n\"Oh shush you stupid lizard.\" Yami replied, closing the door behind him. \n\n\"Well, there he goes.\" Sol chuckled, taking another sip of his coffee.\n\nKai looked at Sol after finishing another bite, \"What kind of job do you have?\" he asked, unable to help his curiosity. His mother always told him to stop being so quiet and that making conversation was polite. That and he was feeling far less uncomfortable compared to the previous day when he'd just arrived.\n\n\"Do you have schools here? Where does Sven go if you have to work and can't take him with you? I’ve also been wondering about how the town works too.\"\n\n\"Me?” Sol smiled. “My job is working from home and taking care of everyone. I don't work normal jobs because of what I have done for this world in the past. I get paid directly by the military. I'm practically retired with enough money to live comfortably. My years of service have paid off. Sven on the other hand, although there is a school, doesn't go. I teach him myself. We're in a more civilized part of the Digital World. Some places don't use money or things like that. Most towns and cities have an independent government, with military guardians that help keep the peace globally. Those guardians are the ones I worked for.” \n\nKai, as always, didn't interrupt Sol as he spoke and explained things to him. He couldn't help but wonder just what it was Sol had done for the Digital World. He recalled Yami making some sort of remark yesterday. Apparently the Veemon didn't want to save the world a second time. Did Sol also help save the world? It would make sense for several reasons, one of them being the fact that, despite the frequent impatience displayed towards him by Yami, both he and the Veemon seemed like very close friends. He was going to have to ask them about their history sometime. Whatever had happened, it was bound to be an important part of the Digital World's history. Therefore, he wanted to know more but that could wait.\n\n\"I know how to defend myself if I do need to stay home alone!\" Sven chimed in before jumping off the chair and running into the next room, getting his Breaker Gloves that he then put on. \"I use these!\" He said, showing them to Kai. \n\n\"Yes well, let's hope you never actually have to fight alright?\" Sol chuckled. “Oh, by the way I went ahead and got a cellphone for you. I'll need you to stay in contact with us. I already did you the favor in updating our phone numbers in it. I'll give it to you on the way and show you how to use it.\"\n\nKai's face lit up as he looked at the phone, though it was quickly replaced by his usual, inquisitive stare as he recalled he had no idea how to use one of them. Sol beat him to it, however, before he could ask.\n\n\"Thanks, Sol!\" He said with a smile. Hopefully it wasn't too expensive and he'd be able to pay the Guilmon back for it soon enough. \"These things sure are handy, huh? They'd make all the travelling back in the Pokémon world that much more convenient as opposed to writing letters...\"\n\nSol smiled, “Of course, this is just one of the many technological advances I’m sure you’re going to be impressed with. I suppose I should share a bit more on the matter with you…”\n\nThe morning went on as normal and they spent most of it eating and talking. After they had all finished Sol, Kai, and Sven went down to the local library where, as expected, Kai immediately got hired as an apprentice librarian. The library wasn't big, and the books were limited but the pay would allow Kai to enjoy the intricacies of life since Sol would still handle his living expenses while he was there. The visit to the library had excited the Dewott greatly. He was like an overly hyperactive Sven if the Giramon was to consume too many sugary sweets.\n\nThe prospect of being inside a library from which he hasn't read a single book was almost too much for him to handle. Despite being rather small it was still bigger than most libraries back in his world. The librarian was awfully nice too. So far, the Digital World was absolutely thrilling for the Pokémon. Sol gave Kai a quick tour of the town they lived in but still needed to go shopping and parted with Kai and Sven. Kai and Sven headed back to the house as instructed by Sol and went inside.\n\n\"Congratulations again on getting hired Kai! Old man Jiji is pretty lax when it comes to work. I bet he'd be happy just seeing another living soul.\" Sven jumped up onto the red couch and let out a relaxed sigh.\n\nKai would have loved to start doing some research in the library but honestly, given the fact that he was going to be working there, he wasn't in a hurry to start reading. Sol didn't want the Giramon to be left alone in the house after all. That and it was a good opportunity to get to know him better. \n\n\"Thanks, Sven.\" he said with a smile, closing the door behind them as they entered. \"Jiji seems really nice. I can't wait to start getting better acquainted with him tomorrow. I bet he's seen a lot in his life and has many fascinating stories to tell.\"\n\nThe Dewott went ahead and sat down next to Sven on the couch, his eyes soon falling on the TV in the room. Despite having been told about this electronic device, he hadn't had the chance of seeing it operate yet.\n\n\"So, what do you use these televisions for?\" He asked.\n\nSven smiled at Kai and reached for the remote, \"Well it's as Sol said last night, it's to be watched! There are shows that come on that entertain us or we play our video games which is that machine next to the tv.\" Sven leaped off the couch and went to the console sitting next to the television and powered it and the television on. He took the controller and brought it to Kai. \"Here!\" He said handing him the device. It had two sticks, and a bunch of buttons.\n\nKai had to admit that a TV sounded like a very nice thing to own. His mother probably wouldn't mind having one to occupy his little brother from time to time. Like, you could watch stuff and even play games on it all while sitting in the same room, meaning that no one had to keep that much of an eye on you! What a brilliant invention! Shame his home village had no electricity. \n\n\"This is my favorite game! It's Digimon related where you play a human and have to raise three Digimon to powerful levels and save the world. This is a really ancient Digital World but it’s still fun to play! I named my human Sven after me!\" Sven said as the game booted up. \n\n\"I'll let you play first, okay? You're going to be in this village, and you have an Agumon, a Gabumon and a Patamon... just follow all the directions and let's see how far you can get!\" Sven said getting close to Kai and cuddling around his arm, resting his head against the Dewott.\n\nKai was actually fairly excited to try playing one of these games. Once he figured out exactly how to work the controller. If Sven was saying it was his favorite then it had to be good, right? However, the Dewott's excitement died out and was instantly replaced by confusion when letters he'd never seen before popped up on the TV screen. What was this? No, it couldn't possibly be! They spoke the same language and yet their written tongue was completely different?! No, maybe he was wrong. Surely Sol wouldn't have forgotten to mention something like this after their discussion about books! Not a single letter was even remotely close to those belonging to his own language! Did this mean that he couldn’t read all those books in the library either?\n\n\"Uh... Sven?\" He asked quietly, not even paying attention to the way the Giramon was snuggling with one of his arms. \"What language is that on the screen?\"\n\nSven looked up at him from his comfortable place on Kai, \"What do you mean? It's the one we're speaking. Those are our letters, don't you have the same letters?\" Sven asked genuinely not knowing what was wrong. \"Everything is written like that, you mean you can't read it? That would be odd since you're a librarian now. Didn't you notice the street signs and things?\" Sven looked back at the tv screen.\n\n\"See? That says, Digimon, and those letters spell out The Old World. Are you feeling alright Kai?\" Sven asked worryingly tilting his head to the side. He wondered if maybe Kai had hit his head or maybe wasn't feeling well.\n\nKai felt his heart sink when Sven went and confirmed that, yes, this was the written language of the Digital World. It was used for every single thing from old video games to street signs to books. No... What cruel fate has been bestowed upon him! As if to rub it in, the Giramon had to point out that this was especially ironic given the Pokémon’s new job at the library.\n\nHow did this even make any sense? They spoke the exact same language and yet their letters, despite being completely different, actually were spoken the same as his? That was a bit fascinating when one thought about- No! It was absolutely annoying! What was he supposed to do about the job at the library? What would old Jiji say once he realized that his new worker had applied without even knowing how to read?\n\nThe Dewott slowly put the controller down on the table, giving Sven a forced smile. \"Oh, I'm fine.\" he lied. \"I guess that just means I can't read anything, but that's okay! I'll... manage without books...\" he said with that last bit in a tone that sounded genuinely hopeless. \"Guess I'm going to have to learn how to read first...\" How long would that take? Who was supposed to teach him? Well, obviously Sven couldn't do it and the Dewott had promised himself that he'd use this chance to spend some time with the blue Digimon and get to know him better. \"Say, Sven... How about we watch something instead? I don't imagine I'll enjoy the game all that much if I can't...\" he sighed, \"...read...\"\n\nSven's ears dropped back and he frowned. He hugged the Dewott's arm tighter and nodded, taking the remote. Sven clicked the button and changed it to the viewing setting where a show featuring some Digimon having an adventure to save a village from a band of pirates was being broadcast. Kai still felt a tad upset about the fact that he was unable to read not only books but also anything that was in this world he wanted to learn so much about.\n\nJust how long did it generally take to learn another language? This was something the Dewott has never attempted to do seeing how there was never any need for it back in his own world. Well, he was going to have to ask Sol about that later. Perhaps the Guilmon had some books in his own personal library that were written in a form that would allow him to read them in the meantime. Whatever these shows Sven liked to watch were, surely, they would be of interest to someone who was entirely new to the Digital World such as himself. Hopefully they'd take his mind off the whole reading thing for the time being.\n\nSven sighed, \"They always show reruns of this show. It's so boring to watch.\" \n\nAs Sven soon spoke up, saying that he'd seen this particular show already, the Dewott tried to think of something else they might be able to do. He himself wanted to keep watching, but it wouldn't be fair towards Sven who was finding it boring. Sven looked up at Kai with a slight red in his cheeks which was only noticeable this close to him.\n\n\"You know Yami used to be an actor!” Said Sven after a short silence. “He directed his own movies and tried to reproduce the adventures he used to have when he was younger and saving the world. He didn't do well and had to retire... he spent his life savings making all these films so he went bankrupt and had to rely on Sol. That was all before I was born though! We may still have his videos in his room. Want to see it Kai? I really like them, I dunno why no one else did.\" The Giramon’s tail was thumping against the couch in his excitement. He was hoping this change of pace would put a smile on the Dewott’s face. \n\nSo all of that had happened before Sven was born? Kai thought. That must mean that Yami has been relying on Sol for quite a long time and that he's been bankrupt for just as long. That didn't sound all too pleasant, especially as Kai recalled the Veemon saying that he was going to spend the day looking for a job, but Yami's personal matters weren't really his business.\n\n\"Are you sure he won't mind?\" asked the Dewott, a bit wearily. If those movies were something Yami had been so passionate about and spent all his life savings on only to have them not turn out too great, didn't the Veemon look back on them in a negative light? Would he appreciate them being shown to someone he barely knew without his knowledge and consent? Kai wanted to ask these questions but Sven seemed rather certain that it wouldn't be a problem. Also, he was just too adorable with the way he was sitting there wagging his tail. His smile was kind of contagious.\n\n\"Yami won't mind, he sometimes watches them himself.\" Sven chuckled, he knew Yami hid them away, never to be watched by anyone but himself and the family. Sven knew where Yami kept them and he would probably hear about it later but he certainly didn't mind if it meant Kai would smile.\n\n\"Well, if you're sure he'd be okay with it...\" said Kai eventually, managing a small smile of his own. Truth be told he was also curious to learn about that entire saving the world ordeal. Plus he didn't want to disappoint Sven again after the Giramon had been so excited to play that video game earlier.\n\n\"Great!\" Sven said leaping off the couch and running up the steps. He approached Yami's room that had a sign saying for Sven to keep out in the form of a crude drawing of Sven himself. Sven ignored it as usual and stood on his toes to reach for the door handle, turned it, and made his way inside.\n\nSven flicked on the light and ran to Yami's closet and swung it open. It was relatively empty apart from a coat for when it got cold and a few large boxes on the floor. Sven pulled one of the boxes out of the closet with a grunt of effort and took off the lid.\n\nHe rummaged through it until he found his favorite tape and giggled happily, placing the cover back over the box and darting out of the room. He jumped from the top of the stairs, landing harmlessly on the bottom level, running over to Kai. \"Found it!!\" He said, his tail wagging fast enough that his tiny butt was jerking with it.\n\n\"You're going to love it!\" Sven turned towards the TV, and inserted the tape into the VCR. Ironically, for as technologically advanced as the world was, Sol still owned a working VCR. Perhaps Yami’s tapes failed because he recorded them on extinct technology. He ran back to the couch and leaped up wrapping himself around Kai's arm and pressing play. Kai chuckled as Sven rejoined him on the couch. He would have put his arm around the little Digimon’s slightly smaller form if he could move it but oh well. It wasn't his fault that the Giramon was possibly the cutest thing he'd ever met. Well, except for his own brother of course.\n\nThe video turned on with poor quality and faded colors, opening with Yami out on a field. Kai immediately noticed that Yami's hair was significantly shorter. He already knew that this film had been recorded a long time ago, but it still felt weird to actually see the Veemon at a time when he'd been that much younger. The movie continued, showing a rather poor story and character development as Yami played every character. The audio was hard to hear and the acting was comedic with the dragon sometimes taking long pauses to remember lines or looking directly at the camera. The transitions from scene to scene were mostly done in one take with Yami throwing on different costumes. Sometimes the scenes would awkwardly cut into the next scene. However, the action scenes were the best part. Yami certainly knew how to throw a punch.\n\nNow, obviously the Dewott has never seen a movie or a television series in his life so he didn't know what to expect, but something still felt a bit off and awkward as he and Sven silently stared at the screen. It took the Pokémon some time to figure out that Yami was playing different characters. He was awfully confused at first.\n\nWhen the first action scene came, Kai felt his intrigue rising. Being a Dewott, he was just as familiar with physical combat as any fighting type Pokémon out there. Normally every member of his species appreciated physical prowess when they recognized it in another, even if said member was a complete book worm like Kai. His mother had taught him how to fight, having battled a lot in her youth, and he had to admit that even she would be impressed! Sure, this wasn't exactly a real fight, but there could be no mistaking that Yami knew his stuff. His remarkable physical strength aside, his technique and the way he moved was astonishing!\n\n\"Yami's incredible!\" said Kai, staring so intently at the TV that he forgot to blink and his eyes started to sting a little. \"Look at those moves!\"\n\nSven nodded and giggled at Kai's reaction, hugging his arm tighter. \"I know! Yami’s so strong!\" He said as the movie came to an end. The giramon jumped off the couch and ran to grab another tape. He and Kai watched several of Yami’s tapes as time went by. Sol had come home at some point and made his way into the kitchen to cook dinner, not bothering the boys as they bonded. The longer they spent watching Yami's old films, the more Kai became increasingly impressed. His agility, style and reflexes were all so refined. The water type was not the biggest fan of fighting but he was still a dewott and he had encountered some remarkable fighters. Yami looked like he could definitely stand his own against most of them at the very least if not take them all down entirely.\n\nKai found himself getting annoyed whenever there wasn't a fight scene taking place. He was always sitting impatiently waiting for the next one to come up and getting all worked up again whenever it did. Also, there weren't any sequences that seemed to repeat themselves. Each battle that took place was different and original, which made everything all the more exciting. It wasn't until evening that Yami came home just as another credits screen began to roll.\n\n\"That's the last one Kai!\" Sven said turning around to see Yami walking through the door with the same pissed expression he’d left with that one would make one wonder if that was his permanent face.\n\n\"What's the last one... Sven... what is that?\" Yami said, the inflection of his voice changing. Sven’s ears dropped back and his tail curled behind him.\n\n\"Um... a movie...\"\n\n\"What kind of movie...?\" Yami said with a scowl beginning to form as he walked slowly towards the couch in front of him.\n\nSven slouched down a bit, \"Y-your movies...\"\n\nYami suddenly leaped over the couch and Sven let out a cry as the Veemon grasped the little Digimon and put him in a tight headlock, falling to the floor. \"You know those are private!! Why would you show them!? How many times have I told you not to go into my room when I'm not home! You never listen!\" Sven had some tears in his eyes as he tried to pull away.\n\n\"I'm... soooorrryyy...\" Sven pleaded.\n\nRather than apologize on the young digimon’s behalf and ask the Veemon to release him, Kai just couldn't help himself. Yami was an awesome fighter and he just had to say it.\n\n\"Yami, these are incredible!\" he suddenly said, standing up. \"Seriously, you are one of the best fighters I've ever seen! Who taught you how to fight like that?!\" However, he gave the Digimon no chance to answer, \"Ooh! Ooh! There was this one part where you were all like-\" he paused briefly to make a rather impressively accurate imitation of a maneuver he'd seen the Veemon perform in one of the movies, \"-and then like VOOM-\" and another.\n\nYami and Sven were both shocked at Kai with the way he was moving, yelling and going on about how great Yami was during the films. Yami released Sven from the headlock and the little Digimon ran into the kitchen to get away from Yami. Yami didn't pay him any mind, too busy trying to contemplate why Kai was acting like this. He noticed Kai's ability to match nearly move for move what Yami had to perform which made it even weirder.\n\nYami stood up from the floor, his cheeks were flushed a bit. This was all so embarrassing, \"I... I wasn't that good... the movies were terrible... I failed as an actor and film director.\" He said, looking down at the rug and scratching his head.\n\n\"Thanks... I guess....\" Yami looked up at Kai and for the first time since meeting the otter, Yami gave a genuine smile, \"You're pretty good yourself Kai.\" Was it because Kai was new to all of this stuff that he became a fan? He thought. What was this otters deal? How could someone so nerdy be so skilled physically? It was like a smaller, bluer, fuzzier Sol. No... there was something about the way Kai was looking at him. Something different than Sol. It didn't feel superior. It felt like he had a real fan.\n\nKai stood there quietly for a few seconds as Yami questioned his positive opinion of his movies, accepted it and then returned the compliment, causing the Dewott to scratch the back of his head awkwardly. He'd imitated some of what was shown in the movies just now simply as a result of his enthusiasm and not to show off. Although, hearing that from someone who seemed to know quite a lot about this kind of thing was flattering.\n\n\"I haven't met anyone besides Sven who liked those films... though the rest of it is crap according to the critics. It's embarrassing to reveal my failure like that. Those are a constant reminder of when my life spiraled downward, but I just can't bring myself to throw them out... because they tell my life story and that should mean something... at least to me.\" Yami explained. His anger had evaporated and he was happy that Kai was so genuine about his movies despite how bad they were. It was the first time in a long time Yami felt proud of those tapes. That they were really worth making in the end. Finding just one person who truly enjoyed them made it feel all worth it. Sure, Sven liked them but he didn’t count as far as Yami cared. \n\n\"You really liked them?\" Yami asked, stepping a little closer with a smile.\n\nKai wasn't in the Veemon's position so he couldn't understand, but he was feeling inclined to agree with him that the old tapes should still hold some meaning. Now, obviously, Kai knew nothing about movies. He'd only yesterday discovered the thing called a TV so as far as it came to what differed good films from bad ones, he was as clueless as one could get.\n\n\"W-Well, I really don't know much about movies...\" he admitted, still scratching the back of his head. Normally he would fiddle with the strap of his bag but, seeing how he didn't have it on him at the moment, he had to improvise. \"But from what I understood their purpose is to entertain the viewers. And, um, I really enjoyed watching them... So... Yeah... I did like them...\"\n\nYami smiled and looked at the tv, \"Well.... I suppose it'd be okay if you wanted to watch them as many times as you like.\" The Veemon looked back at Kai and a slight pink in his cheeks, strange, for some reason Kai looked... pretty cute. He never found Pokémon to be appealing so why did this one just make his heart jump a bit. It's not like Kai wasn't a handsome fellow, but he wasn't a Digimon... perhaps that didn't need to matter but it’d probably be best to keep this to himself. \n\n\"I'd apologize to Sven, if I wasn't ready to kick his butt for going into my room. Anyway, thanks for the compliments and everything. Maybe we can spar some time if you're not too busy reading or whatever it is you nerds do.\" Yami said, turning to walk towards the stairs to go into his room. \n\nKai gave a small smile at Yami, finding his comment about Sven amusing. He was pretty sure that the Veemon would get over this in a little while. He always gave off the impression that he didn't have a lot of patience for the Giramon's antics but, from the way he's handled it so far (even if a headlock might look like too much to others), the Dewott felt certain that there was nothing to worry about. Perhaps it would be nice to spar with the Veemon sometime. There was no better way to keep himself from going rusty, after all. It was far better than training on one's own.\n\nSven peeked back into the room, his ears perked up when he realized Yami was gone and he walked into the room before running and hugging around Kai’s waist. Kai found himself chuckling as Sven returned as soon as Yami had left, as if having some sort of survival instinct that helped him avoid the danger that was Yami. A pretty silly way to look at it probably, but Sven was just too adorable that Kai couldn't stop himself from gently ruffling the top of the Digimon’s head as he was hugged by the little guy. \n\n\"See? I knew Yami would like that you watched them. Sol says dinner is just about ready and to come help set up the table!\" Sven chuckled, taking the Dewott by the paw; his tail wagging behind him, to lead Kai into the kitchen where Sol could be heard humming.\n\n\"You knew?\" Kai sarcastically asked. It sounded more like the Giramon had taken a gamble which happened to pay off this one time. The Giramon didn’t respond as they walked together, though. The matter of helping Sol set the table was something he’d be more than happy to do. Kai gave one last glance at the staircase with a gentle smile before disappearing into the kitchen.",
"writing_bbcode_parsed": "<span style='word-wrap: break-word;'>Chapter 2: Settling In<br /><br />The morning came and Kai was sleeping comfortably on his back, tucked in the bed; wrapped in the blankets except for his head. Kai could hear muffled noises coming from downstairs, the most noticeable one being Sven as he made his way through the hall and into the kitchen.<br /><br />It wasn&rsquo;t the smell or the faint noise of muffled voices coming from outside the room that woke him up. It was a blurry dream that he couldn&#039;t make sense of all too well, but Sol was certainly in it. The Dewott woke with a slight start as he found himself muttering the Guilmon&#039;s name in a sensual manner and he immediately tried to sit up. It took a moment to free himself from the blanket&rsquo;s coils. Thankfully, Sol was already up. Having the red dragon around to hear him just now would have been awkward to say the least.<br /><br />The water type&#039;s cheeks heated up when he realized that he was sporting quite the morning wood. Being a male, he was used to waking up like this often, but there could be no doubt that it was directly linked to him having dreamt of Sol in an undoubtedly sexual manner. To Kai&#039;s further embarrassment, the way his waist in particular had been wrapped almost seemed a bit odd. It didn&#039;t look as though his member had forced its way against the blanket but instead as though the blanket had been wrapped around it as well.<br /><br />The Dewott felt his face heat up even more. He got out of bed hurriedly, before pouting in annoyance.<br /><br />Where were his glasses again? Oh, right, on that nightstand on the side of the bed Sol had slept on. He slowly made his way around the bed, accidentally bumping a toe against one of its legs. Kai&rsquo;s face contorted and his toes curled as the sharp, sudden pain screamed its way through his body. Why didn&#039;t he just get onto the bed in order to get to the other side? He pondered that while taking a moment for his foot to realize that it wasn&rsquo;t about to implode and for the pain to die down. After finding his glasses, Kai&#039;s nose suddenly caught a very pleasant scent. It appeared someone was preparing breakfast and it smelt delectable. He could make out Sven&#039;s voice from downstairs. Might as well not take the chance that they&#039;ll wait for him to wake up and just go to the kitchen as quickly as possible.<br /><br />Kai&rsquo;s sudden remembrance of Sol as he realized the Digimon in question was most likely the one cooking and the brief flashes of the dream he could remember caused his face to heat up as his dying erection had returned to full mast. He sighed in annoyance and hurried to the bathroom, making sure to close the door behind him. After washing his face and waiting a bit for his member to retreat back into his shaft which, thankfully, did not take too long, the Pok&eacute;mon left the bedroom and went downstairs. He took a deep breath, mentally preparing himself, before heading inside. Sure enough Yami, Sven and Sol were all already there.<br /><br />&quot;G-Good morning...&quot; he muttered quietly, feeling another blush threaten to creep onto his cheeks when he looked at the red dragon and waved briefly in greeting. <br /><br />&quot;I... I hope I haven&#039;t kept you waiting for me...&quot; It didn&#039;t look as though they were just about ready to start eating so maybe he hasn&#039;t.<br /><br />&quot;I, uh,&quot; he cleared his throat, scratching the back of his head, &quot;I must have been more tired than I thought...&quot;<br /><br />&quot;Good morning!&quot; Sol called out from the sizzling of the stove.<br /><br />Sven jumped off the chair and ran with a giggle and a smile, leaping onto Kai in a tight and loving embrace.<br /><br />&quot;Morning!!&quot; He said before letting go and running back to his seat. <br /><br />Kai was a little taken by surprise when Sven rushed towards him and hugged him tightly. Not that he mind. He just hadn&#039;t seen it coming despite having been warned of Sven&#039;s energy and witnessed it himself, especially with the things he had weighing on his mind. He briefly returned the gesture but didn&#039;t get a chance to say good morning in return before the Giramon took off and headed back towards his chair, nearly tripping over on the way there. He was about to ask the little Digimon whether he was alright but that seemed unnecessary.<br /><br />&quot;Sven, why can&#039;t you stop running in the house? You&#039;re going to get hurt one of these days.&quot; Yami said, then looked at Kai. &quot;Hey. Hope it wasn&#039;t too difficult sleeping in a strange world.&quot;<br /><br />The Dewott looked at Yami, managing a small smile and a nod. &quot;I slept well, thank you...&quot; Really, the bed had been so nice. Especially with Sol to cuddle with, though the water type forced the thought out of his mind.<br /><br />&quot;Oh, that reminds me... Kai will be living here for the foreseeable future and under my care while he stays in this world.&rdquo; Said Sol, coming over to the table with plates of eggs, bacon and pancakes. &ldquo; So, you can be sure to be expecting a lot of him around here, he is now part of the family.&quot; He placed one in front of Sven, Yami and one where Kai would sit.<br /><br />&quot;Kai is going to be my brother!? Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!&quot; Sven cheered. <br /><br />Yami seemed indifferent overall. &quot;Good&rdquo; He said. &ldquo;Means he can do chores around here as well.&quot;<br /><br />&quot;Oh,&quot; Kai quickly added, &quot;I wouldn&#039;t mind helping with chores at all. I was going to suggest it myself... I wouldn&#039;t feel comfortable if I just stayed here without doing anything for you in return...&quot;<br /><br />Sol chuckled before going over to the fridge and pulling out a pitcher of freshly squeezed orange juice, &quot; He will be added to the chores list in due time. I want to at least let him settle in first. Kai, I&#039;m glad you slept well. It was nice having someone by my side again. Sven doesn&#039;t have nearly as many nightmares anymore and Yami is, well, Yami.&quot; Sol walked over to a cabinet, grabbing a few cups and bringing them over to the table. For a Digimon with only three claws, one could only imagine the amount of practice it took to use them so practically. He poured a cup for each of them and placed them respectfully.<br /><br />&quot;Sven can&#039;t be coddled forever, we&#039;ve spoken about this Sol and no offense, but I&#039;m not exactly fond of you holding me all night.&quot; Yami replied, beginning to eat.<br /><br />&quot;I don&#039;t mind spending a night with Sol whenever he wants!&quot; Sven spoke up.<br /><br />&quot;Maybe some nights Sven, but not every night.&rdquo; Said Sol. &ldquo;Yami is definitely right. Besides, I&#039;ll have Kai for now since we don&#039;t have a fourth bedroom.&quot;<br /><br />&quot;I want to spend a night with Kai too!&quot; Sven spoke up.<br /><br />The conversation suddenly shifting once more to sleeping arrangements made the Dewott remember last night again. As wonderful as it had been, he was worried that he would eventually be found out by Sol, which would be really awkward and unpleasant. Just this morning had been dreadful enough, but he managed not to blush at the thought of it. Sven suddenly speaking up, however, gave him an idea.<br /><br />&quot;Er, I wouldn&#039;t mind...&quot; he muttered. It was some sort of a getaway option, as much as he was tempted to continue spending the nights in Sol&#039;s room. &quot;I mean, if you really want to...&quot; It seemed like Sven did and he&#039;d also hate to disappoint the cute little guy. That is if Sol wouldn&#039;t have a problem with something like that, of course.<br /><br />Sol shook his head, &quot;I don&#039;t mind at all, but Sven&#039;s bed is incredibly small compared to mine. Though with your size, you should be fine, and I have enough data on your species sleeping habits to sate my inquisition. I&#039;ll have plenty of time to learn more, it&#039;s not every day I have a study subject in the comfort of my own home.&quot; Sol got a plate for himself and sat down at the table. &quot;Come and eat Kai, before your eggs grow cold.&quot; Sol asked.<br /><br />Kai found it difficult to not have a physically visible reaction when Sol began talking about already having enough data on a Dewott&#039;s sleeping habit. Oh no, he must have seen it! Kai&rsquo;s fear had been realized and he couldn&rsquo;t prevent the extreme embarrassment from overtaking his thoughts. The only thing the water type could hope was that he hadn&#039;t made any weird noises or worse, said anything in his sleep. Sleeping with Sven was definitely looking like a safer option. Surely, he&#039;d sleep normally and not have any inappropriate dreams if he wasn&#039;t cuddling with the Digimon he appeared to be attracted to. Giving Sol a quiet, quick nod, Kai went ahead and joined the others at the table.<br /><br />&quot;Yay! I got a sleeping buddy! We&#039;re gonna stay up aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall night and play games!&quot; Sven exclaimed. <br /><br />Yami looked at him, &quot; Please, you&#039;ll be out like a light before your head even hits the pillow.&quot; Sven glared at Yami and stuck out his tongue. Yami looked at Kai, &quot;Remember what I said if Sven becomes a problem.&quot; Yami said.<br /><br />Kai chuckled softly at Sven&#039;s enthusiasm and the remark Yami shot in the Giramon&#039;s direction, but offered the Veemon a dismissive wave when he mentioned his advice from the previous day. He very seriously couldn&#039;t see himself kicking anyone let alone someone so adorable. Besides, the Dewott was still certain that Yami had only been kidding at the time.<br /><br />Sol turned his head after very quickly finishing his food with only a few bites. &quot; So Kai, the library, you are set to go, aren&#039;t you? Would you like me to accompany you?&quot; He asked, pulling away from the table and making himself a cup of coffee.<br /><br />&quot;Library?&quot; Yami questioned.<br /><br />&quot;Well... I wouldn&#039;t want you to go out of your way, but I still have no idea where the library is... So, uh, I would like that very much...&quot; He said in response to Sol before looking at Yami. &quot;Oh, yes. There&#039;s no better way to learn more about your world than to go read some books.&quot; He smiled. &quot;Plus Sol said they might be hiring...&quot; Having said that, he helped himself to a bite from a pancake, once again using his scallops to cut his food. From the look on his face, he really liked it. &quot; This is amazing!&quot; he couldn&#039;t help but remark, making sure to swallow first. His mother never liked it when he spoke with his mouth full. &quot; What do you call this?&quot; he asked, helping himself to another slice.<br /><br />&quot;That is a pancake or a flapjack.&ldquo; Said Sol. &ldquo; Two names for the same thing. I learned how to make this a few years ago after traveling to the human world. It is a simple culinary dish but tastes fantastic.&quot;<br /><br />Yami looked at Kai and gave a smile, &quot; You think they taste good like that?&rdquo; He asked. &ldquo;See that syrup in the middle? Pour that on them and then give it a taste.&quot;<br /><br />Sven nodded as his own pancakes were overflowing with the syrup, &quot; They taste so goooooood!&quot; He said.<br /><br />Kai thought quietly for a moment. He was amazing in so many ways&hellip; no, not the time to think about that again.<br /><br />Sol continued with his coffee as the three spoke, taking a newspaper from the counter and sitting back down in his chair to read it. &quot;Take your time eating Kai, we will go when you&#039;re ready.&quot; He said.<br /><br />&quot;Can I come?&quot; Sven asked.<br /><br />&quot;Of course, Sven.&rdquo; Replied the guilmon. &ldquo;I&#039;m not going to leave you home alone.&quot;<br /><br />&quot;I guess I&#039;ll go try and find another job, as usual. I&#039;ll be home by dinner more than likely.&quot; Yami said getting up from the chair and taking his empty plate to the sink. The Veemon grabbed his pouch with the phone in it and put it around his waist. He walked past Kai and patted his shoulder, &quot;Welcome to the family bud.&quot; He said in passing heading towards the door.<br /><br />Kai quickly swallowed the bite he had in his mouth as Yami walked past him and patted him on the shoulder. <br /><br />&quot;Thanks, Yami!&quot; he said, smiling as the Veemon left.<br /><br />&quot;Bye Yami!!&quot; Sven called out.<br /><br />&quot;Call me if you&#039;re going to be late again or bring home any more Pok&eacute;mon okay?&quot; Sol said. <br /><br />&quot;Oh shush you stupid lizard.&quot; Yami replied, closing the door behind him. <br /><br />&quot;Well, there he goes.&quot; Sol chuckled, taking another sip of his coffee.<br /><br />Kai looked at Sol after finishing another bite, &quot; What kind of job do you have?&quot; he asked, unable to help his curiosity. His mother always told him to stop being so quiet and that making conversation was polite. That and he was feeling far less uncomfortable compared to the previous day when he&#039;d just arrived.<br /><br />&quot;Do you have schools here? Where does Sven go if you have to work and can&#039;t take him with you? I&rsquo;ve also been wondering about how the town works too.&quot;<br /><br />&quot;Me?&rdquo; Sol smiled. &ldquo; My job is working from home and taking care of everyone. I don&#039;t work normal jobs because of what I have done for this world in the past. I get paid directly by the military. I&#039;m practically retired with enough money to live comfortably. My years of service have paid off. Sven on the other hand, although there is a school, doesn&#039;t go. I teach him myself. We&#039;re in a more civilized part of the Digital World. Some places don&#039;t use money or things like that. Most towns and cities have an independent government, with military guardians that help keep the peace globally. Those guardians are the ones I worked for.&rdquo; <br /><br />Kai, as always, didn&#039;t interrupt Sol as he spoke and explained things to him. He couldn&#039;t help but wonder just what it was Sol had done for the Digital World. He recalled Yami making some sort of remark yesterday. Apparently the Veemon didn&#039;t want to save the world a second time. Did Sol also help save the world? It would make sense for several reasons, one of them being the fact that, despite the frequent impatience displayed towards him by Yami, both he and the Veemon seemed like very close friends. He was going to have to ask them about their history sometime. Whatever had happened, it was bound to be an important part of the Digital World&#039;s history. Therefore, he wanted to know more but that could wait.<br /><br />&quot;I know how to defend myself if I do need to stay home alone!&quot; Sven chimed in before jumping off the chair and running into the next room, getting his Breaker Gloves that he then put on. &quot;I use these!&quot; He said, showing them to Kai. <br /><br />&quot;Yes well, let&#039;s hope you never actually have to fight alright?&quot; Sol chuckled. &ldquo;Oh, by the way I went ahead and got a cellphone for you. I&#039;ll need you to stay in contact with us. I already did you the favor in updating our phone numbers in it. I&#039;ll give it to you on the way and show you how to use it.&quot;<br /><br />Kai&#039;s face lit up as he looked at the phone, though it was quickly replaced by his usual, inquisitive stare as he recalled he had no idea how to use one of them. Sol beat him to it, however, before he could ask.<br /><br />&quot;Thanks, Sol!&quot; He said with a smile. Hopefully it wasn&#039;t too expensive and he&#039;d be able to pay the Guilmon back for it soon enough. &quot; These things sure are handy, huh? They&#039;d make all the travelling back in the Pok&eacute;mon world that much more convenient as opposed to writing letters...&quot;<br /><br />Sol smiled, &ldquo;Of course, this is just one of the many technological advances I&rsquo;m sure you&rsquo;re going to be impressed with. I suppose I should share a bit more on the matter with you&hellip;&rdquo;<br /><br />The morning went on as normal and they spent most of it eating and talking. After they had all finished Sol, Kai, and Sven went down to the local library where, as expected, Kai immediately got hired as an apprentice librarian. The library wasn&#039;t big, and the books were limited but the pay would allow Kai to enjoy the intricacies of life since Sol would still handle his living expenses while he was there. The visit to the library had excited the Dewott greatly. He was like an overly hyperactive Sven if the Giramon was to consume too many sugary sweets.<br /><br />The prospect of being inside a library from which he hasn&#039;t read a single book was almost too much for him to handle. Despite being rather small it was still bigger than most libraries back in his world. The librarian was awfully nice too. So far, the Digital World was absolutely thrilling for the Pok&eacute;mon. Sol gave Kai a quick tour of the town they lived in but still needed to go shopping and parted with Kai and Sven. Kai and Sven headed back to the house as instructed by Sol and went inside.<br /><br />&quot;Congratulations again on getting hired Kai! Old man Jiji is pretty lax when it comes to work. I bet he&#039;d be happy just seeing another living soul.&quot; Sven jumped up onto the red couch and let out a relaxed sigh.<br /><br />Kai would have loved to start doing some research in the library but honestly, given the fact that he was going to be working there, he wasn&#039;t in a hurry to start reading. Sol didn&#039;t want the Giramon to be left alone in the house after all. That and it was a good opportunity to get to know him better. <br /><br />&quot;Thanks, Sven.&quot; he said with a smile, closing the door behind them as they entered. &quot;Jiji seems really nice. I can&#039;t wait to start getting better acquainted with him tomorrow. I bet he&#039;s seen a lot in his life and has many fascinating stories to tell.&quot;<br /><br />The Dewott went ahead and sat down next to Sven on the couch, his eyes soon falling on the TV in the room. Despite having been told about this electronic device, he hadn&#039;t had the chance of seeing it operate yet.<br /><br />&quot;So, what do you use these televisions for?&quot; He asked.<br /><br />Sven smiled at Kai and reached for the remote, &quot;Well it&#039;s as Sol said last night, it&#039;s to be watched! There are shows that come on that entertain us or we play our video games which is that machine next to the tv.&quot; Sven leaped off the couch and went to the console sitting next to the television and powered it and the television on. He took the controller and brought it to Kai. &quot; Here!&quot; He said handing him the device. It had two sticks, and a bunch of buttons.<br /><br />Kai had to admit that a TV sounded like a very nice thing to own. His mother probably wouldn&#039;t mind having one to occupy his little brother from time to time. Like, you could watch stuff and even play games on it all while sitting in the same room, meaning that no one had to keep that much of an eye on you! What a brilliant invention! Shame his home village had no electricity. <br /><br />&quot;This is my favorite game! It&#039;s Digimon related where you play a human and have to raise three Digimon to powerful levels and save the world. This is a really ancient Digital World but it&rsquo;s still fun to play! I named my human Sven after me!&quot; Sven said as the game booted up. <br /><br />&quot;I&#039;ll let you play first, okay? You&#039;re going to be in this village, and you have an Agumon, a Gabumon and a Patamon... just follow all the directions and let&#039;s see how far you can get!&quot; Sven said getting close to Kai and cuddling around his arm, resting his head against the Dewott.<br /><br />Kai was actually fairly excited to try playing one of these games. Once he figured out exactly how to work the controller. If Sven was saying it was his favorite then it had to be good, right? However, the Dewott&#039;s excitement died out and was instantly replaced by confusion when letters he&#039;d never seen before popped up on the TV screen. What was this? No, it couldn&#039;t possibly be! They spoke the same language and yet their written tongue was completely different?! No, maybe he was wrong. Surely Sol wouldn&#039;t have forgotten to mention something like this after their discussion about books! Not a single letter was even remotely close to those belonging to his own language! Did this mean that he couldn&rsquo;t read all those books in the library either?<br /><br />&quot;Uh... Sven?&quot; He asked quietly, not even paying attention to the way the Giramon was snuggling with one of his arms. &quot; What language is that on the screen?&quot;<br /><br />Sven looked up at him from his comfortable place on Kai, &quot; What do you mean? It&#039;s the one we&#039;re speaking. Those are our letters, don&#039;t you have the same letters?&quot; Sven asked genuinely not knowing what was wrong. &quot;Everything is written like that, you mean you can&#039;t read it? That would be odd since you&#039;re a librarian now. Didn&#039;t you notice the street signs and things?&quot; Sven looked back at the tv screen.<br /><br />&quot;See? That says, Digimon, and those letters spell out The Old World. Are you feeling alright Kai?&quot; Sven asked worryingly tilting his head to the side. He wondered if maybe Kai had hit his head or maybe wasn&#039;t feeling well.<br /><br />Kai felt his heart sink when Sven went and confirmed that, yes, this was the written language of the Digital World. It was used for every single thing from old video games to street signs to books. No... What cruel fate has been bestowed upon him! As if to rub it in, the Giramon had to point out that this was especially ironic given the Pok&eacute;mon&rsquo;s new job at the library.<br /><br />How did this even make any sense? They spoke the exact same language and yet their letters, despite being completely different, actually were spoken the same as his? That was a bit fascinating when one thought about- No! It was absolutely annoying! What was he supposed to do about the job at the library? What would old Jiji say once he realized that his new worker had applied without even knowing how to read?<br /><br />The Dewott slowly put the controller down on the table, giving Sven a forced smile. &quot;Oh, I&#039;m fine.&quot; he lied. &quot;I guess that just means I can&#039;t read anything, but that&#039;s okay! I&#039;ll... manage without books...&quot; he said with that last bit in a tone that sounded genuinely hopeless. &quot;Guess I&#039;m going to have to learn how to read first...&quot; How long would that take? Who was supposed to teach him? Well, obviously Sven couldn&#039;t do it and the Dewott had promised himself that he&#039;d use this chance to spend some time with the blue Digimon and get to know him better. &quot;Say, Sven... How about we watch something instead? I don&#039;t imagine I&#039;ll enjoy the game all that much if I can&#039;t...&quot; he sighed, &quot;...read...&quot;<br /><br />Sven&#039;s ears dropped back and he frowned. He hugged the Dewott&#039;s arm tighter and nodded, taking the remote. Sven clicked the button and changed it to the viewing setting where a show featuring some Digimon having an adventure to save a village from a band of pirates was being broadcast. Kai still felt a tad upset about the fact that he was unable to read not only books but also anything that was in this world he wanted to learn so much about.<br /><br />Just how long did it generally take to learn another language? This was something the Dewott has never attempted to do seeing how there was never any need for it back in his own world. Well, he was going to have to ask Sol about that later. Perhaps the Guilmon had some books in his own personal library that were written in a form that would allow him to read them in the meantime. Whatever these shows Sven liked to watch were, surely, they would be of interest to someone who was entirely new to the Digital World such as himself. Hopefully they&#039;d take his mind off the whole reading thing for the time being.<br /><br />Sven sighed, &quot; They always show reruns of this show. It&#039;s so boring to watch.&quot; <br /><br />As Sven soon spoke up, saying that he&#039;d seen this particular show already, the Dewott tried to think of something else they might be able to do. He himself wanted to keep watching, but it wouldn&#039;t be fair towards Sven who was finding it boring. Sven looked up at Kai with a slight red in his cheeks which was only noticeable this close to him.<br /><br />&quot;You know Yami used to be an actor!&rdquo; Said Sven after a short silence. &ldquo; He directed his own movies and tried to reproduce the adventures he used to have when he was younger and saving the world. He didn&#039;t do well and had to retire... he spent his life savings making all these films so he went bankrupt and had to rely on Sol. That was all before I was born though! We may still have his videos in his room. Want to see it Kai? I really like them, I dunno why no one else did.&quot; The Giramon&rsquo;s tail was thumping against the couch in his excitement. He was hoping this change of pace would put a smile on the Dewott&rsquo;s face. <br /><br />So all of that had happened before Sven was born? Kai thought. That must mean that Yami has been relying on Sol for quite a long time and that he&#039;s been bankrupt for just as long. That didn&#039;t sound all too pleasant, especially as Kai recalled the Veemon saying that he was going to spend the day looking for a job, but Yami&#039;s personal matters weren&#039;t really his business.<br /><br />&quot;Are you sure he won&#039;t mind?&quot; asked the Dewott, a bit wearily. If those movies were something Yami had been so passionate about and spent all his life savings on only to have them not turn out too great, didn&#039;t the Veemon look back on them in a negative light? Would he appreciate them being shown to someone he barely knew without his knowledge and consent? Kai wanted to ask these questions but Sven seemed rather certain that it wouldn&#039;t be a problem. Also, he was just too adorable with the way he was sitting there wagging his tail. His smile was kind of contagious.<br /><br />&quot;Yami won&#039;t mind, he sometimes watches them himself.&quot; Sven chuckled, he knew Yami hid them away, never to be watched by anyone but himself and the family. Sven knew where Yami kept them and he would probably hear about it later but he certainly didn&#039;t mind if it meant Kai would smile.<br /><br />&quot;Well, if you&#039;re sure he&#039;d be okay with it...&quot; said Kai eventually, managing a small smile of his own. Truth be told he was also curious to learn about that entire saving the world ordeal. Plus he didn&#039;t want to disappoint Sven again after the Giramon had been so excited to play that video game earlier.<br /><br />&quot;Great!&quot; Sven said leaping off the couch and running up the steps. He approached Yami&#039;s room that had a sign saying for Sven to keep out in the form of a crude drawing of Sven himself. Sven ignored it as usual and stood on his toes to reach for the door handle, turned it, and made his way inside.<br /><br />Sven flicked on the light and ran to Yami&#039;s closet and swung it open. It was relatively empty apart from a coat for when it got cold and a few large boxes on the floor. Sven pulled one of the boxes out of the closet with a grunt of effort and took off the lid.<br /><br />He rummaged through it until he found his favorite tape and giggled happily, placing the cover back over the box and darting out of the room. He jumped from the top of the stairs, landing harmlessly on the bottom level, running over to Kai. &quot;Found it!!&quot; He said, his tail wagging fast enough that his tiny butt was jerking with it.<br /><br />&quot;You&#039;re going to love it!&quot; Sven turned towards the TV, and inserted the tape into the VCR. Ironically, for as technologically advanced as the world was, Sol still owned a working VCR. Perhaps Yami&rsquo;s tapes failed because he recorded them on extinct technology. He ran back to the couch and leaped up wrapping himself around Kai&#039;s arm and pressing play. Kai chuckled as Sven rejoined him on the couch. He would have put his arm around the little Digimon&rsquo;s slightly smaller form if he could move it but oh well. It wasn&#039;t his fault that the Giramon was possibly the cutest thing he&#039;d ever met. Well, except for his own brother of course.<br /><br />The video turned on with poor quality and faded colors, opening with Yami out on a field. Kai immediately noticed that Yami&#039;s hair was significantly shorter. He already knew that this film had been recorded a long time ago, but it still felt weird to actually see the Veemon at a time when he&#039;d been that much younger. Yami certainly knew how to throw a punch.<br /><br />Now, obviously the Dewott has never seen a movie or a television series in his life so he didn&#039;t know what to expect, but something still felt a bit off and awkward as he and Sven silently stared at the screen. It took the Pok&eacute;mon some time to figure out that Yami was playing different characters. He was awfully confused at first.<br /><br />When the first action scene came, Kai felt his intrigue rising. Being a Dewott, he was just as familiar with physical combat as any fighting type Pok&eacute;mon out there. Normally every member of his species appreciated physical prowess when they recognized it in another, even if said member was a complete book worm like Kai. His mother had taught him how to fight, having battled a lot in her youth, and he had to admit that even she would be impressed!&nbsp;&nbsp;Sure, this wasn&#039;t exactly a real fight, but there could be no mistaking that Yami knew his stuff. His remarkable physical strength aside, his technique and the way he moved was astonishing!<br /><br />&quot;Yami&#039;s incredible!&quot; said Kai, staring so intently at the TV that he forgot to blink and his eyes started to sting a little. &quot;Look at those moves!&quot;<br /><br />Sven nodded and giggled at Kai&#039;s reaction, hugging his arm tighter. &quot;I know! Yami&rsquo;s so strong!&quot; He said as the movie came to an end. The giramon jumped off the couch and ran to grab another tape. He and Kai watched several of Yami&rsquo;s tapes as time went by. Sol had come home at some point and made his way into the kitchen to cook dinner, not bothering the boys as they bonded. The longer they spent watching Yami&#039;s old films, the more Kai became increasingly impressed. His agility, style and reflexes were all so refined. The water type was not the biggest fan of fighting but he was still a dewott and he had encountered some remarkable fighters. Yami looked like he could definitely stand his own against most of them at the very least if not take them all down entirely.<br /><br />Kai found himself getting annoyed whenever there wasn&#039;t a fight scene taking place. He was always sitting impatiently waiting for the next one to come up and getting all worked up again whenever it did. Also, there weren&#039;t any sequences that seemed to repeat themselves. Each battle that took place was different and original, which made everything all the more exciting. It wasn&#039;t until evening that Yami came home just as another credits screen began to roll.<br /><br />&quot;That&#039;s the last one Kai!&quot; Sven said turning around to see Yami walking through the door with the same pissed expression he&rsquo;d left with that one would make one wonder if that was his permanent face.<br /><br />&quot;What&#039;s the last one... Sven... what is that?&quot; Yami said, the inflection of his voice changing. Sven&rsquo;s ears dropped back and his tail curled behind him.<br /><br />&quot;Um... a movie...&quot;<br /><br />&quot;What kind of movie...?&quot; Yami said with a scowl beginning to form as he walked slowly towards the couch in front of him.<br /><br />Sven slouched down a bit, &quot;Y-your movies...&quot;<br /><br />Yami suddenly leaped over the couch and Sven let out a cry as the Veemon grasped the little Digimon and put him in a tight headlock, falling to the floor. &quot; You know those are private!! Why would you show them!? How many times have I told you not to go into my room when I&#039;m not home! You never listen!&quot; Sven had some tears in his eyes as he tried to pull away.<br /><br />&quot;I&#039;m... soooorrryyy...&quot; Sven pleaded.<br /><br />Rather than apologize on the young digimon&rsquo;s behalf and ask the Veemon to release him, Kai just couldn&#039;t help himself. Yami was an awesome fighter and he just had to say it.<br /><br />&quot;Yami, these are incredible!&quot; he suddenly said, standing up. &quot;Seriously, you are one of the best fighters I&#039;ve ever seen! Who taught you how to fight like that?!&quot; However, he gave the Digimon no chance to answer, &quot;Ooh! Ooh! There was this one part where you were all like-&quot; he paused briefly to make a rather impressively accurate imitation of a maneuver he&#039;d seen the Veemon perform in one of the movies, &quot;-and then like VOOM-&quot; and another.<br /><br />Yami and Sven were both shocked at Kai with the way he was moving, yelling and going on about how great Yami was during the films. Yami released Sven from the headlock and the little Digimon ran into the kitchen to get away from Yami. Yami didn&#039;t pay him any mind, too busy trying to contemplate why Kai was acting like this. He noticed Kai&#039;s ability to match nearly move for move what Yami had to perform which made it even weirder.<br /><br />Yami stood up from the floor, his cheeks were flushed a bit. This was all so embarrassing, &quot;I... I wasn&#039;t that good... the movies were terrible... I failed as an actor and film director.&quot; He said, looking down at the rug and scratching his head.<br /><br />&quot;Thanks... I guess....&quot; Yami looked up at Kai and for the first time since meeting the otter, Yami gave a genuine smile, &quot;You&#039;re pretty good yourself Kai.&quot; Was it because Kai was new to all of this stuff that he became a fan? He thought. What was this otters deal? How could someone so nerdy be so skilled physically? It was like a smaller, bluer, fuzzier Sol. No... there was something about the way Kai was looking at him. Something different than Sol. It didn&#039;t feel superior. It felt like he had a real fan.<br /><br />Kai stood there quietly for a few seconds as Yami questioned his positive opinion of his movies, accepted it and then returned the compliment, causing the Dewott to scratch the back of his head awkwardly. He&#039;d imitated some of what was shown in the movies just now simply as a result of his enthusiasm and not to show off. Although, hearing that from someone who seemed to know quite a lot about this kind of thing was flattering.<br /><br />&quot;I haven&#039;t met anyone besides Sven who liked those films... though the rest of it is crap according to the critics. It&#039;s embarrassing to reveal my failure like that. Those are a constant reminder of when my life spiraled downward, but I just can&#039;t bring myself to throw them out... because they tell my life story and that should mean something... at least to me.&quot; Yami explained. His anger had evaporated and he was happy that Kai was so genuine about his movies despite how bad they were. It was the first time in a long time Yami felt proud of those tapes. That they were really worth making in the end. Finding just one person who truly enjoyed them made it feel all worth it. Sure, Sven liked them but he didn&rsquo;t count as far as Yami cared. <br /><br />&quot;You really liked them?&quot; Yami asked, stepping a little closer with a smile.<br /><br />Kai wasn&#039;t in the Veemon&#039;s position so he couldn&#039;t understand, but he was feeling inclined to agree with him that the old tapes should still hold some meaning. Now, obviously, Kai knew nothing about movies. He&#039;d only yesterday discovered the thing called a TV so as far as it came to what differed good films from bad ones, he was as clueless as one could get.<br /><br />&quot;W-Well, I really don&#039;t know much about movies...&quot; he admitted, still scratching the back of his head. Normally he would fiddle with the strap of his bag but, seeing how he didn&#039;t have it on him at the moment, he had to improvise. &quot; But from what I understood their purpose is to entertain the viewers. And, um, I really enjoyed watching them... So... Yeah... I did like them...&quot;<br /><br />Yami smiled and looked at the tv, &quot;Well.... I suppose it&#039;d be okay if you wanted to watch them as many times as you like.&quot; The Veemon looked back at Kai and a slight pink in his cheeks, strange, for some reason Kai looked... pretty cute. He never found Pok&eacute;mon to be appealing so why did this one just make his heart jump a bit. It&#039;s not like Kai wasn&#039;t a handsome fellow, but he wasn&#039;t a Digimon... perhaps that didn&#039;t need to matter but it&rsquo;d probably be best to keep this to himself. <br /><br />&quot;I&#039;d apologize to Sven, if I wasn&#039;t ready to kick his butt for going into my room. Anyway, thanks for the compliments and everything. Maybe we can spar some time if you&#039;re not too busy reading or whatever it is you nerds do.&quot; Yami said, turning to walk towards the stairs to go into his room. <br /><br />Kai gave a small smile at Yami, finding his comment about Sven amusing. He was pretty sure that the Veemon would get over this in a little while. He always gave off the impression that he didn&#039;t have a lot of patience for the Giramon&#039;s antics but, from the way he&#039;s handled it so far (even if a headlock might look like too much to others), the Dewott felt certain that there was nothing to worry about. Perhaps it would be nice to spar with the Veemon sometime. There was no better way to keep himself from going rusty, after all. It was far better than training on one&#039;s own.<br /><br />Sven peeked back into the room, his ears perked up when he realized Yami was gone and he walked into the room before running and hugging around Kai&rsquo;s waist. Kai found himself chuckling as Sven returned as soon as Yami had left, as if having some sort of survival instinct that helped him avoid the danger that was Yami. A pretty silly way to look at it probably, but Sven was just too adorable that Kai couldn&#039;t stop himself from gently ruffling the top of the Digimon&rsquo;s head as he was hugged by the little guy. <br /><br />&quot;See? I knew Yami would like that you watched them. Sol says dinner is just about ready and to come help set up the table!&quot; Sven chuckled, taking the Dewott by the paw; his tail wagging behind him, to lead Kai into the kitchen where Sol could be heard humming.<br /><br />&quot;You knew?&quot; Kai sarcastically asked. It sounded more like the Giramon had taken a gamble which happened to pay off this one time. The Giramon didn&rsquo;t respond as they walked together, though. The matter of helping Sol set the table was something he&rsquo;d be more than happy to do. Kai gave one last glance at the staircase with a gentle smile before disappearing into the kitchen.</span>",
