"description": "OK, I may have bitten off more than I could chew with this. But I've had this road trip idea for a while now, and it just kind of kept growing. Then Mario Kart World gave me even more inspiration.\n\nI have enough images I'm working on for this to be a three part series. We haven't even gotten to the aforementioned space hotel or camping night yet.\n\nI didn't start off going with Polaroid pictures, but I thought it would be fun to add his mother's comments, and doing it in the description felt a little awkward so that's where I ended up. Because that was a later change, I made all these in portrait or landscape and had to crop them. I'm curious how the compositions would have ended up if I generated them as squares.\n\nHere are a few details about each image:\n\nStarting with the map:\nI shopped the prompt around a few different models until I got something close enough to what I wanted, then I desaturated the result to give it that road map atlas look. I upscaled this one a lot, which took forever to generate.\n\nThe journey's beginning photo on the bottom left:\nI was kind of spoiled for choice with this one. Single character with a pretty basic pose. I initially wanted him to be walking towards a car, about to set off on their journey, and some of the images I was getting had (badly) parked cars, but the one I liked best didn't have one other than the ones in the way background, so I decided it wasn't that important. It would have been cropped out of the Polaroid format anyway.\n\nI did some painting on one of his arms (out of frame in the Polaroid). The countershading on his arms sometimes wraps around way too far. I'm still trying to figure out how much countershade on his arms I like. I think I've resigned that it might be slightly different in each image. I also had to paint out some grey fur under his eyes, which I like to keep white. Sometimes i fix the snaggletooth these models always add, but I kept it in this time.\n\nThe photo with is mom:\nThis was an interesting one. I had to figure out what relative height I wanted Tuxley to be. There's a more direct height comparison here than I've ever done before. In the loose timeline I have in my head for him, he's weeks away from turning 9 when this move happens, so he's still a pretty little kid. His height and how old he looks are going to drift from image to image, but this one felt about right to me.\n\nThe matching shirts came about when one of the versions I generated had them in similar shirts. I thought that was a fun idea, so I ran with it. I had to do a lot of manual painting to get them as similar-ish as they are. \n\nAlso, Tuxley's mom kept coming out looking [i]really[/i] thirsty. It took a lot of prompt weight to tone that down.\n\nTubing:\nI had to swap this image out for a different version at the very last minute. I noticed an issue that would have been a bit tricky to fix and took the opportunity to work on one I liked a little better.\nThe hardest thing here was to not make him look really tall and lanky, which is how most of the images looked. I switched from portrait to a landscape aspect ratio and i think that helped a bit due to how it wanted to fit him in frame. The other thing was his tail. SD really didn't know what to do with it together with the tube. A lot of the versions had his tail going through the center of the tube and under, but I thought if he hit a rock or the bottom of the river that would be painful, so I felt like it should be above. I eventually got one where it was kind of wrapped around him like this and that looked right to me.\n\nFor whatever reason, this prompt made the countershading on his arms go out of control more than usual. I went through a lot of iterations and attempts to manually tone it down before this one,\n\nThe patch:\nI wanted a few little souvenir type things that weren't pictures, so I decided on a patch for the national park type place they went to that would loosely match the shirts they bought.\n\nI'm terrible at graphic design, so sorry its kind of bland.\n\nThe mountain was generated and duplicated, and the rest was composed in an image editor with an embroidery filter. Not a perfect result, but it works.\n\nEating ice cream:\nI think this is the weakest one of the bunch in terms of the road trip concept, but I liked it, and wanted one more for this first batch. The higher angle shot always makes him look younger.\n\nI didn't have to fix too much here. One of his fingers was really chonky so I sanded it down a bit.\n\n\nAsleep in the car:\nThis image....this image...I spent [i]sooo[/i] long on this. Car interiors are really challenging for the model I'm using. The perspective is always way off, or it creates this mess of never ending seats and car-esque looking things. It also kept putting him in the back seat, which was actually producing better results, but I wanted him in the passenger seat.\n\nThere were other versions of this image I could have gone with, but this was the pose I really liked. It took a lot of work though. I had to rebuild the whole perspective into something that looked close enough to right. I know it's still off, and he's [i]waaaayyyyy[/i] bigger than he should be, but it's much better than it was. The darkness of the image helped a lot. Parts of the car interior just kind of dissolve into a dark void. \n\nI also don't love how strong those white asphalt lines outside the window are, but every time I tried to get rid of them, or paint them out it ended up worse, or the inpainted image had slightly different lighting, or some other issue, so I relented and left them. The idea was they were supposed to be parked at their hotel for the night. Maybe they're in the space next to a no parking zone? Or like in a valet area?\n\nI also reversed the image, since the original gen had him sitting on the left, which would be incorrect for the heavily US inspired but not explicitly specified country I'm going for.\n\nAnyway, sorry again for the long description.\n\n\nI hope you like it. \n\nSee you in Part 2!",
