"description": "The amount of fear one feels when suddenly waking up in an unfamiliar bed, weak and alone. Looking around to realize you are in a hospital, but for what reason and when did this happen? Nobody is around, but the faint sounds of voices outside the room can be heard through the closed door. Your eyes close what felt like only minutes, but in your head hours have passed, yet this time Marin was not there. Nothing is there, but black, until your eyes reopen to a dark room. It's not after dark.\n\nDuncan is trying his hardest to remember what happened but he cannot. He has no idea how long he has been here. He panics mentally, breathless, searching for his daughter. Countless time has passed before someone comes into his dark room to check on him. The nurse has not noticed his eyes watching them in the dark, as they replaced his I.V. Her voice sounded familiar when she spoke to another just outside his room. \"Corey?\" He wonders.\n\nHe realized it was not his boss in the room with him. This nurse was taller, but its her voice. He could only watch the dark figure leave without having the strength to get her attention. \"What is going on?\" He wonders\n\nIt was not until morning when somebody finally noticed him awake. It took time for the wolf to regain enough strength to move on his own, to speak. The first thing he asked was, \"where is Marin?\" They asked who is he referring to. When Duncan explained who his daughter is, the nurse informed him that he does not have any family members listed, only his work phone number was provided. It took some time and a visit from a psychiatrist to help him understand that the lift he had was all a dream during his coma. He was told about the car accident, of being hit as he was crossing the street, the injuries he has suffered and how long he has been in the hospital, how long he has been in a coma. \"You have been here for 63 days. December has just started less than a week ago.\"\n\nDuncan had a long talk with the psychiatrist. He tells about his daughter, from when she was a little girl, from the time his wife had left him on up until she was 16. The doctor explains to him what the girls symbolized. \"Your wife was your grip on reality. When she left was the moment you slipped into a coma. Your daughter is that life you wish you had. She stayed with you up until it was time for you to wake up. That is when she decided to move on, why you couldn't dream anymore once you finally woke up.\"\n\nThe heart breaking realization that it was all fake gripped his mind and his heart. Duncan was broken, as he sat in bed gazing out the window as tears ran from his eyes. Only a long deep sigh left his lips.\n\nDuncan was cleared to leave the hospital 4 days later. It was hard to go back home knowing she is not there. To know that everyone is not real. The more he remembered how alone he really is, the harder he shivers. He could not go back home. It was too lonely, too many false memories of her there. Duncan sat on a long flight of stone steps leading uphill through the park to his street. He felt like giving up right there, where he sat. Even the heavy winds followed by freezing rain did not get him to move.\n\nAll that he could hear was the drowning sound of the heavy rain and its cold sting hitting his face. His clothes soaked in the freezing water. His eyes closed as he is wishing for something to to happen, for something to.......The sound of the storm had slightly changed to rain hitting on tight fabric hovering over head. Duncan opens his eyes as a flood of warm tears mixed with the cold water on his face. He looks up to see someone standing over him with an umbrella shielding him from the merciless rain. \"Are you okay?\" She asked.\n\nThe girl recognized him and helps him to his feet. She figured he is drunk with his he's sluggishly standing to his feet. \"Come on, let me take you home.\" she said to him. Duncan pulls away, putting himself back into the rain as he rejects her kind offer of walking him home. His reasons were unclear, but sounded depressing. It sounded like someone he knew had passed away in his room, or that use to live with him. The girl was insisted on getting him out of the rain and forced him to head home, easing his fear by telling him she will walk with him.\n\nThe girl talks to him while walking with him, holding onto his arm to keep him up and moving. \"Tell me what happened?\" She asked, \"You have been gone for two months and suddenly show up like this. We got worried something had happened to you.\" She said.\n\n\"Do we know each other?\" Duncan asked.\n\n\"N-no, not really. We pass each other by every morning though.\" She answered. Duncan tried remembering but he could not. He broke down and explained to the girl what had happened to him, where he's been, and why he did not want to go back home. The girl was speechless. She was not expecting to hear such a heart breaking tale. They arrived to his home and the girl had a sense of dread. She took his keys and opened his door and brought him inside.\n\nShe kept in mind what her parents taught her about going into a stranger's house, she stayed by the opened door as she watched Duncan stumble into his place. She stared at him, wondering if she should leave or stay. Something told her that if she left, she may never see him again, that he may do something.....dark. Staying could put her at risk of the things she was told. She was nervous about both decisions.\n\nShe took a deep breath and slowly backed out of his home and closed the door behind herself. She stood at his front door thinking hard about what she is doing. To listen to her parents and their teachings or to listen to her heart? Her heart behind making her tears flow the more she thought about what to do, about his pain. The girl takes out her phone and began sending a message to her friend before going back into Duncan's home. She never thought that she would be comforting a grown man on her own.\n\nThe next day, Elly and Meredith met up like usual on the way to school. Elly had say how relieved she was when Meredith replied to her an hour after that first text the night before. She said she was worried that something had happened. Elly had to ask how did everything go.\n\nMeredith asked Elly if she remembers that guy they pass every morning. \"Yeah, he stopped showing up a couple months ago.\" Meredith goes on to explain how she found him in the rain and the state he was in and everything she could remember of what they talked about last night. \"I cant believe you stayed at the guys house for that long. Weren't you scared?\"\n\n\"I was at first, but every time I thought about leaving this weird scary feeling held me back.\" Meredith rubs her arms. \"Something was telling me that if I did leave him, he probably wouldn't be around anymore. To put it lightly.\"\n\nElly gazed at her best friend, unbelieving that she is this caring. It was unexpected and new. To hear how she, not only, talked with the guy and got to know each other, but she even held him. Elly thought, \"I guess the feeling of losing someone close who wasn't real can be just as devastating as the real thing.\" The more she thought about it, the harder it is not to feel for the guy and to have tears form in her eyes. Elly asked, \"Are you going to see him after school? To see how he's doing?\" Meredith had a worried look on her face as she answered yes. Elly can tell that she is hoping he did not put himself down while they were gone.\n\n\"I told him I'll be back and I asked him to promise me not to do anything until I get there.\" She said with heavy words. And all she could think about what him all day until then.\n\nsketched by grispine\nfinished by bittenhard",
