"description": "The last thing I posted with Phaine got a lot of questions about the state of my affairs. For the record everything is totally fine, just letting out the steam. Rex did say something that got me thinking though, I do typically draw her when I'm upset, partially because she makes me feel better.\n\nThis was a 2 hour aside tonight, heavily reffed, but not as heavily as the last and spent less time on it. I sort of need to spend a little more time in monochrome land studying values and Phaine has been helping me study(Only in art do clothes come off during a study session and it actually HELPS studying getting done). \n\nWill spend an hour or two working more on my trade with Damien now. BTW I've posted a link in my journal about my art status to a picture of where that trade currently is. I'll likely continue to do this for extended projects that I owe to people, be they trades, requests, or even commissions(if I ever even get to a confidence point where I do commissions).\n\n// Character rant\n\nPhaine is usually introduced as Phaenix's(also known as Tom depending on the curcumstances) twin sister. Both her abilities and nature are very closely tied to Phaenix, but manifest in a very different manner. While Phaenix can directly see and manipulate energy that isn't under another's will, Phaine draws this same energy in, mixes it with her own, and then releases it. She can increase or decrease the extent as well as target energies to a certain extent, but she is unable to stop it regardless of the focus she dedicates to doing so. At a glance this makes her like a battery plugged into a charger. She is constantly filling herself with then energy around her and then releasing it, either into the area around her or a target. The real world implications, however, are a good bit more unfortunate.\n\nBecause she is constantly drawing in any unattended energy she draws any energy from surrounding beings that they are not currently using. This would be hardly noticeable to anyone and since she ends up cycling the energy back out almost as it was to begin with, I has little to no effect on those around her. That said, no one is real keen on a being that sucks away their energy in any form. Among those who discover her ability, few treat her well afterwords. Because of this she has aquired quite a few unpleasant labels, such as succubus, vampire, and witch.\n\nAnother effect is that the energy she keeps changes her energy balance. On the bright side this means the longer she is around a person, the more of their abilities she can do. Through extended exposure she is even sometimes able to permanently learn these abilities, performing them even once none of that person's energy remains in her. The not so bright side is that it changes her at her core. Emotion falls into the energy spectrum she absorbs and it is one of the parts she has the most trouble controlling. This makes her MORE then empathic, she doesn't just feel for your pain, she feels your pain itself. Exposure to individuals prone to strong emotions cause her to get caught up in what they are feeling. Crowds are alright for a short period of time, but if the whole crowd starts to feel the same emotion(say a crowd of angry football fans) it quickly becomes overwhelming. This is not aided by her release of the energy back, as over time she begins to polarize the emotions of everyone in the area, quickly causing situations to escalate.\n\nThis also causes her to feel for others in an unnatural manner. She literally has a love hate relationship with everyone in the world. The longer she spends with an individual the more like them she becomes, as well as the more emotionally attached to them. If she were to be isolated with an normal individual for an extended period of time it would only be a matter of weeks before she would care for them as if they had known each other their entire lives. This was INCREADIBLY frustrating for her when she was growing up, and made her wonder if she truly loved anyone at all. This led to her personality being somewhat jaded when her emotions aren't under the influence of others, which in turn causes most people to get a feeling that they shouldn't trust her since she releases that energy into the atmosphere. \n\nBecause of her nature she tends to avoid contact with people unless she has the presence of someone who can help her.
