Dating Detention
"Just what did the "good girl" of the school do to get put in detention?" This question was the top gossip of the school when the rumors started spreading about Henrietta getting detention. No one could believe it until they saw her going into the Detention/Study hall after last bell. Everyone was buzzing with different theories. Some just flat out denied it and went with the idea that she must be staying after as a teachers aid. But what couldn't be denied was that she was there.
Henrietta blushed and couldn't look at anyone as she made her way to Detention, refusing to answer any questions. What she had done or was doing there she kept to herself. No one, not even her parents, knew yet that the young girl of 13 had secretly started dating William Baggins, a senior in their school and 5 years her senior in age.
It was William that purposely failed to turn in a history paper, making the excuse that he was having trouble with it. His history teacher gave him one last chance to get it turned in by Monday and his coach, who did not want to bench him, was the one giving him the detention. But this was all planned out by the mischievous fox. Knowing that as the one giving the detention, his coach would be the one to watch over him, and he planned for a Friday before a big game. Then it was just a matter of convincing the coach to ask Henrietta, the smartest girl in the school and the library aid to help him finish the paper.
And like clockwork, the coach agreed and asked Miss Evan’s to assist William with his paper and, being the only ones in detention, they were soon alone, together. The coach, wanting to oversee the practice for the upcoming game, trusted his threat of kicking William from the team to keep him working on the assignment, just as William had known he would. This was not the first time the coach had left the detention room unattended in favor of keeping watch on the team’s practice. Of course, Henrietta knew this was the plan. She could hardly look at the old lion as he thanked her for giving up her time to help William before heading out.
Once he was certain the coach was gone, William turned to Henrietta smiling. “Well, that was easy, though I thought for sure he would be suspicious the way you were blushing. Shall we start our improvised date? You know we won’t be able to keep it secret much longer.” He pulled out a little basket of snacks he hid away earlier that day. “Besides, they’re going to know when we go to the prom together. You will be my date, wont you?”
He nearly dropped the basket as she flung her arms around him. “Yes, oh yes, I will go with you. I was so worried you weren’t going to ask because…. Because I am so much younger,” she finished as she became shy and let go of him.
“I thought so. You have been worrying yourself sick about if I was serious or not about us, weren’t you.” he laughed as she shyly nodded. “Well let me put your mind to rest. There is no one I want to be with more than you, and I don’t care what others say about our age difference. And to make the prom date official.” Here he reached into the basket and pulled out a little box and opened it. Inside was a beautiful red velvet ribbon and black lace choker with a single black jewel hanging from the middle. “I ask again, Henrietta Evans. Will you be my date for the prom?”
She started to cry with joy as she said yes once more and then they embraced, kissing and holding on to one another. For the rest of detention, they kept holding each other, getting more physical as they let their passion for each other take its course; unafraid of any consequences or what the future may hold.
