*Tobias: Meeting Bruno*

The sunlight streamed through the trees as Tobias sat at the kitchen table, lazily stirring his cereal. Across from him, Martha nibbled on toast, her ears twitching with every small sound. Mrs. Rowe moved around the kitchen, tidying up and keeping a watchful eye on the two.

The door opened, and Edwin Rowe stepped in, his Starfleet uniform pristine and his black-and-white fur groomed to perfection. He gave Tobias and Martha a quiet nod as he removed his cap and set it on the counter.

“Good morning,” Edwin said in a low, even tone.

Tobias glanced up, frowning. “Who are you?”

“I’m Edwin,” he replied, sitting down across from Tobias. “Your father.”

*A New Friend*

After breakfast, Edwin leaned back in his chair, studying Tobias and Martha. “Today, I want you to meet someone.”

“Who?” Tobias asked suspiciously.

“A Medico-ranked Penitatas named Bruno Hearthstone,” Edwin explained. “He lives across town with his family.”

“What’s a Medico?” Tobias asked.

“It means he wasn’t rejuvenated for punishment,” Edwin explained. “Bruno was a firefighter until he was severely injured in an accident. Rejuvenation was the only way to save his life.”

Martha perked up. “He was a firefighter? That’s so brave.”

“He’s a good kid,” Edwin said, “and I think you’ll enjoy meeting him. But remember, respect his home and his family’s rules.”

Tobias rolled his eyes. “Yeah, yeah.”

*Meeting Bruno*

Bruno Hearthstone’s house was warm and inviting, with a wide front porch and a small garden out front. Bruno greeted them at the door, his broad, friendly bear face lighting up in a smile. His brown fur shimmered in the sunlight, and he wore denim overalls.

“Hi! You must be Tobias and Martha,” Bruno said, his deep voice cheerful and welcoming.

“Yeah,” Tobias said, eyeing Bruno curiously. “So... you used to be a firefighter?”

Bruno nodded. “That’s right. Best job in the world. I miss it sometimes, but I’m lucky to be here.”

“That must’ve been scary,” Martha said softly, her ears twitching.

“It was,” Bruno admitted. “But you don’t let fear stop you from doing what’s right. Come on, let’s play!”

---

*Trouble in the Backyard*

At first, the trio played peacefully, tossing a ball and building small structures in the sandbox. Tobias, however, grew restless and decided to test the boundaries.

“Bet you can’t throw the ball over the fence,” Tobias said, smirking as he handed the ball to Bruno.

Bruno frowned. “Why would I do that? It’s not my fence.”

“Come on, just do it,” Tobias insisted.

“No,” Bruno said firmly. “That’s against the rules.”

Tobias rolled his eyes and grabbed the ball, throwing it over the fence himself. “There, I did it. What are you going to do about it?”

“Tobias, why did you do that?” Martha asked, her voice calm but disapproving. “That wasn’t nice.”

“It’s just a ball,” Tobias muttered. “What’s the big deal?”

Bruno’s dad, Arthur Hearthstone, appeared at the back door, his large, gray-furred form filling the frame. His deep voice carried a quiet authority. “What’s going on here?”

*The Paddle Comes Out*

Arthur quickly got the story from Bruno, Tobias, and Martha. His stern expression left no room for excuses.

“Tobias,” he said, turning to the boy, “you deliberately broke the rules and showed disrespect to Bruno. That’s not acceptable.”

Arthur then turned to Martha. “You didn’t do anything wrong this time, but when others act out, you need to be a steady example. Encouraging kindness matters as much as following the rules.”

Tobias paled. “I didn’t mean—”

Arthur held up a wooden paddle. “Actions have consequences, Tobias. Over the table, pants down.”

Tobias’s heart sank as he complied, his hands trembling as he lowered his pants and leaned over the table. The first swat landed with a sharp *smack*, and Tobias yelped, his legs twitching. Arthur delivered several more swats, each one firm but measured, leaving Tobias’s bare bottom bright red by the end.

Arthur then turned to Martha. “Your turn.”

Martha froze, her face flushed with embarrassment. “I didn’t do anything!”

“No, but this is a lesson in accountability and composure,” Arthur explained. “Lift your dress and lower your panties.”

With trembling hands, Martha raised her sundress and slid her panties down to her knees. She leaned over the table, her floppy ears drooping. The paddle struck her bare bottom with the same firm precision, leaving her softly whimpering.

*Reflection Time*

Afterward, Arthur guided both children to a pair of hard wooden stools on the back porch. “You’ll sit here, bare bottoms on the stool, and think about your actions.”

Tobias winced as he lowered himself onto the hard surface, the sting in his backside intensifying. Martha hesitated, then gingerly sat down, her face still flushed with embarrassment.

Bruno stood nearby, his expression sympathetic. “It’s okay to make mistakes,” he said. “Just try to be better next time.”

### *Apologies and Understanding*

Once their time was up, Arthur called them over. “Now, what do you say to Bruno?”

“I’m sorry,” Tobias mumbled, his eyes on the ground.

“Me too,” Martha whispered, tears clinging to her lashes.

Bruno smiled warmly. “It’s okay. Let’s start fresh.”

### *A Quiet Walk Home*

As Edwin led Tobias and Martha home, Tobias glanced up at his father. “Do you think I’ll ever get it right?”

Edwin’s whiskers twitched in amusement. “That’s up to you. But I believe you can.”

Tobias nodded, his thoughts swirling with the lessons of the day. Mistakes were painful, but they were also opportunities to grow.
