Battle Style:
Unlike her more agile allies, Mercy is much slower and doesn’t have as easy of a time dodging or getting out of the way of attacks. However, she makes up for this by being able to take plenty of powerful hits before going down, being able to withstand blow after blow that would knock Kiyoki or Serafina out. She can even force herself to remain conscious while bleeding out or in situations where she should fall unconscious, essentially keeping herself awake in situations where she should be unconscious. She also sometimes utilizes her skull as a make-shift shield / helmet to neutralize any damage from weaker strikes and lessen damage from stronger ones.
Meanwhile her attacks tend to be up close attacks utilizing her Bone Club like a…club to beat down her foes and tackles, stomps and headbutts as well. To help close the distance between her and her foes or to try and help her allies, she can toss her Bone Club like a Boomerang.

“I just want to protect what’s important to me, that’s all.”
An extremely introverted and shy Pokémon, Mercy is an extremely difficult individual to approach both due to her aversion to interacting with other Pokémon and her somewhat off-putting appearance due to the skull-like “helmet” she always seems to adorn upon her head no matter what and she seems apprehensive to ever take off. However, the few Pokémon she has been able to form a meaningful relationship with can attest to the fact that they’d be hard-pressed to find any other Pokémon who’s as kind-hearted and selfless as Mercy is.
Being such a quiet Pokémon, Mercy is rarely seen out and about without being shadowed by another Pokémon she trusts.
In the past and to an extent the present, she tends to freeze up and become skittish and nervous when she’s alone, barely able to let out anything more than barely audible grumbles when she’s by herself. Because of this, she was quite easy to pick on as a child and it was extremely easy to get her to the point of crying. As a young adult however, she has hardened her shell a bit more and isn’t as emotional. She also has a severe lack of self-esteem, having very little confidence in her appearance, intelligence and abilities.
A lot of her introverteness comes from the tragic death of her mother, something that even after nearly thirteen years still haunts and follows Mercy to this day. She still has frequent nightmares and flashbacks either to the day or ones related to it and the trauma from it very much affects her views on the world and other Pokémon to this day.
Unlike her more trusting Teammates, Mercy’s immediate reaction to meeting new Pokémon is to treat them with suspicion and wariness, even if they seem genuinely kind. While this tends to be a knee jerk reaction and it’s usually quickly quelled it is also sometimes warranted and as a result she’s much harder to trick or take advantage of than Kiyoki and Serafina.
This also extends to her views on her loved ones like her family and friends, who she cherishes deeply. She’ll do anything in her power to help and protect them, even at the risk of her own safety not wishing to idly watch someone she loves die like she did in the past. This also means that she tends to mean she is extremely clingy with those she cares about and if they do get hurt under her watch, it tends to put her in a depressive mood that lasts for quite a while. This also goes for Pokémon she’s helping and protecting as a member of Team Toukon.
In battle however, Mercy is a surprisingly focused and fierce individual, her usual nervousness seemingly lessening as she instead has to focus on the opponents in front of her and protecting her allies.
Outside of battle, Mercy by her own admission is not the most intelligent Pokémon, having some trouble with reading and writing and anything beyond simple math being way over her head. However, because of her past of traveling around alongside her mother, she’s actually quite knowledgeable on outdoor living and has some environmental knowledge which has proven handy to the team multiple times.
Biography
:Mercy was the only child of a Marowak mother named Patty and an unknown father who Mercy never learned about, her mother always seemed to be hesitant to talk about any length. Most of Mercy’s early years were spent wandering alongside the eastern part of Aeroes with the two never really settling down in one place for too long. Patty would take odd job after odd job to try and support herself and her young daughter, usually barely being able to make enough to get by day after day. Despite the hardships of their lifestyle, Patty did everything she could to make sure her daughter was happy and decently taken care of. Because of this, the young Mercy had a happy if not entirely easy or satisfying childhood of traveling alongside her mother.
However, tragedy would strike when Mercy was barely seven. During that afternoon, Mercy and her mother had been traveling through a thick forest trying to get to Symphony Town in the hopes of finding some work there. Unfortunately for them, they had the misfortunate of crossing paths of a very cruel and strong Pangoro who quickly began to make unsavory comments towards Patty and Mercy. After Patty turned down the Pangoro’s “advances”, he quickly turned violent and started to assault Patty. The Marowak would try to fight back in vain, desperately trying to protect herself and more importantly her precious daughter. Despite her best efforts, Patty was unable to stand up against the Pangoro and was brutally beaten within an inch of her life and a young and distressed Mercy could do nothing as the Pangoro dragged both her and her limp mother back to his hut.
Once they were in the Pangoro’s home, Mercy was tied up and could only watch as the Pangoro mercilessly assaulted and abused her mother who spent her final moments futilely trying to calm down and console her daughter claiming that everything would be alright as all Mercy could do was wail and cry loudly. After what seemed like an eternity of torture, Patty’s life was unceremoniously ended when she was mercilessly stabbed to death by her attacker. Even then, Pangoro continued to abuse Patty’s body, which culminated in the Pangoro slicing Patty’s head clean off her and submerging it in some kind of strange liquid which completely burned the skin off of her head and only left a pristine white skull. With his “trophy” acquired, the Pangoro left to bury Patty’s body in places unknown leaving a despondent Mercy all alone and without anymore tears to shed.
Eventually, the Pangoro would return intent on doing similarly cruel things to the young Mercy. However, Mercy’s incessant and loud wailing ended up being what had at least saved her in the end. A Pokémon who was traveling through the forest had ended up hearing her cries and after following them to the hut, managed to take a peek inside and witnessed the stomach-curdling scene within. The Pokémon would then make their way to the authorities and a High-Ranking Rescue Team was dispatched to apprehend the Pangoro. While they were successful in apprehending the Pangoro and saving Mercy, they were much too late to save her mother and were even unable to find her body, only being able to retrieve the skull the Pangoro had hoped to keep as a trophy.
In the aftermath of this tragic event, Mercy was taken back to Symphony Town. They were scarcely able to get any information out of the traumatized girl and once she saw her mother’s skull, she took hold of it and she refused to let go of it. After the authorities realized the young Cubone had nowhere to go, she was adopted by a Kangaskhan named Beatrice who was expecting a child of her own at the time. For the first time ever, Mercy finally had a permanent home and roof over her head and yet she had never felt so empty.
For a long time, Mercy refused to ever leave her new room despite prodding from Beatrice for her to try and make friends with some of the other children of Symphony Town. When she eventually gained the courage to go outside, she had also obtained the strange and somewhat morbid quirk of wearing her deceased mother’s skull like it was a helmet. While some members of her species wore replica skulls to either to honor their heritage or intimidate their enemies, the trait of wearing the actual skull of a loved one had been long gone for a least a millennia in a more modernized and civilized world. Despite this Mercy refused to go without it, with the skull making it feel like her late mother was still with her in some way. Beatrice was surprisingly fine with this, but told Mercy to tell anyone who questioned it that it wasn’t a real skull.
Once Mercy found herself out and on her own, she was soon beset by a torrent of bullying and insults, not only from children around her age who found her an easy target, but even from adults who found the Cubone off-putting. Even worse was that rumors had spread about Mercy, from ones that were just kind of childish to others truly cruel and vile. The young Cubone probably would have retreated back into her room without a friend to speak of if it wasn’t for her making an unlikely friend in Serafina, a Mienfoo only one year her senior who took Mercy under her wing and became her first real friend. Because of this, Mercy ended up becoming extremely close with Serafina and she ended up following her everywhere. Because of this, Mercy also ended up becoming good friends with a Dewott named Kiyoki, who was another close friend of Serafina’s. So despite everything, Mercy had managed to make some friends in Symphony Town.
As time moved on Mercy grew from a child to a young adult, mostly either following Serafina and Kiyoki around or assisting her adoptive mother and younger sister, Julie whenever they needed her with her seemingly having no kind of idea of what she wanted to do in the future. However, after learning that Kiyoki and Serafina were going to start up a Rescue Team together she decided to join their team to their surprise. Admittedly, Mercy joined more to stay alongside and help her two closest friends but she also had a genuine desire to prevent other Pokémon from suffering like she had. She wanted to try and be someone who could prevent tragedies before they occurred which became her reason for joining Team Toukon.
