Considering the long history between GUN and Sonic in his friends at this point, it was safe to assume that the two of them were allies or at the very least, mutually trusted each other. Which was probably why it was so easy for GUN to so suddenly turn on and capture Knuckles right on Angel Island, easily knocking out the echidna down while he was guarding the emerald, his barefeet already quite dirty. Sonic quickly tracked down who had captured his friend and where he was, breaking into one of their Island Bases with Tails beside him. Strangely, the new weaponry GUN had rendered the two barefoot, dirtying their feet before the duo were overwhelmed and knocked out.
With the two troublesome heroes defeated, they were thrown into a makeshift cell where not only Knuckles rested, but an unconscious Espio and Vector as well. The two detectives were investigating GUN and it's new leader, only to be found and knocked unconscious as well having been rendered barefoot and defeated the same way that Sonic and Tails were.
With five of the world's strongest heroes now prisoners and rendered comatose for the time being, there seemed like there was nothing standing in the new leader of GUN's way of their mission. Sure only he knew what that mission was and only told his grunts that Sonic and his friends needed to be stopped, but they were a loyal and resourceful bunch. Soon, no one could stand in his way of his plan of world dominat-I mean, to protect the world!
