That was, until one day, when Camilla went to a mall with her parents. She rushed off to the toy store, like she so often did, to turn around and find that her parents weren't there! They had vanished like so much smoke dissipating into the air, as if they had never been real. Of course, they had been: She existed, more than enough proof that they, then, had also existed! Surely, of course, they'd be along any minute....any minute now...
That minute, however, never came. It'd been three years since that horrible, sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach as she turned around to find nobody there; but things weren't all bad. The stories of the mall collecting up lost children turned out to be very true! But it also meant that she was housed, fed, looked after. Granted, sure, she had to work for them, but hey, better than just being tossed into the street to fend for herself!
Though, she really hated working for that Sweater Vest Emporium. Whatever they were made out of made her nipples all itchy and chafe like crazy. No, she didn't like working there at all...or any place, really, except for Gothopolips. They let her dress how she liked...which was to say in that trashy gothy way. Something just felt RIGHT about not constricting her chest behind some itchy, hot clothing, and she loved the guy who did the inks for their fur/skin tattooing. Was some unique blend of inserting dye into the skin, which somehow also dyed the fur as it grew out.
But, for as much as she loved Gothopolips, they were very much drained by having her on the staff. It wasn't that the other employees there didn't like having her around, they did! But the management of the store wanted someone that could be....well, used more as a bargaining chip. But every time they had tried to trade her away to another store, she'd be back within three days, them complaining that it wasn't a fair trade since she wouldn't put forth any real effort. This system only really worked when pieces could be moved around like on a board, to help gain some kind of monetary advantage.
That was why when this black cat in a red beret came in one day, asking about their little flyer girl...the management was more than happy to strike up a deal. It was a bit of a surprise to Milly, but not wholly unexpected: she figured that they would get tired of her, the way the other stores had...the way her own parents had.
Some day, this new Master of hers...who called himself Luni...would tire of her, and would eventually trade her off to someone else too...
