Rediscovered by Seff and Luna, they did not immediately grasp its true importance. To the two direpups, it was simply an excellent location for a secret club house, and they set to work clearing brush and dragging supplies across the miles of rough ground between the Camp and the stones. When Makwa catches them stealing furniture from the camp's cabins, she confronts the two pups about what they're up to - and is astonished at their find. To find such a site at all, much less in such a remarkable condition with ancient paintings still adorning the rocks, was rare. What saved it was likely its original purpose to begin with - the isolation and magic of the deep woods kept it untouched and its magic strong though all the intervening years.
Though she encouraged the two pups to keep building their fort there (if it had been safe enough for direwolves in the past, it would be safe enough for her pups), Makwa made several stipulations for it. If they were out there after sundown, they could not leave until sunrise - dangerous things still lurk in the woods that close to the border with Underhill. They must respect the history of the location, and not disturb the ancient paintings or vandalize the rocks. And while there, they must observe the cultural traditions of their people to keep the spirits of the place happy.
The campers and counselors now know the location by the name "Howling Rock." Most have not seen it up close, only heard the distant howling and caught glimpses of the flicker and glow of a bonfire burning long into the night. Those who have been invited - or captured and taken - to the direpups' parties at the Howling Rock are usually tight-lipped about what goes on there, but tribal garb (or nudity) appears mandated, dancing is encouraged, and beer and barbecue are constant staples. What goes on at the afterparty can only be guessed at, but the howls of pleasure and triumph echoing through the forest are a pretty good clue about the direction things often take.
