A series of Jurassic Park bedtime stories +++++++++++++ Prologue Our story begins on a boring rainy Tuesday morning. In the early hours I got up and had breakfast, and by 4 p.m. I was at the post office busy preparing my paper route, ignoring whining colleagues as all types of papers were counted and sorted, to be stored in my van before taking off. Rain poured down at the time I started the engine, but I did not mind at all. A weak earlier winter had struck us for the first time with frost and icy roads negate with. So even as most colleagues moaned about the weather I considered myself lucky today. Within ten minutes from my departure my first newspaper was delivered. Despite the early hour roads were busy with waves of border workers entering the country. Crossing the main street was a hazardous job as speed limits were frequently ignored even with bad weather conditions. But I was used to this and within about fifteen minutes the first and probably most dangerous part of the main road had its deliveries concluded. Just one more and then I would be starting a more quieter part of my route. Quickly I mounted my car and locked my seatbelt, then made a quick check on my newspapers making sure I did not forget any. Then I pushed the van into gear and looked up to ride on. Driving in opposite direction was a speeding dump truck. Its driver was overly occupied with his phone seemingly having trouble handling it. Exactly what kept his attention I did not know but as soon as the truck arrived at the bend in the main road he started deviating from his side of the road. A passing car nearly collided with it sounding its horn, but the truck driver was too focussed on his phone even at this point. There was nothing I could do as my van was still immobile on the side. The side of the truck hit my van hard and pushed it back into a tree a few meters behind my previous position. My windows shattered and I could hear metal bending and breaking. The van's weight came down on my van and I could feel a hot fluid rushing over my shoes and burning my feet. Something sharp pierced my clothes and belly tearing me open. The steering wheel crushed into my chest and something warm fell onto my hands: my own guts. My skull hurt as the roof of my car pushed into it, weighed down by the truck. And then everything turned black. +++++++++++++ Waking up An uncomfortable pain stung me and I felt warm when I started waking up. A loud noise filled the room around me which I could not identify. My eyes opened to see what it was expecting to find myself in a hospital. The place I found myself in however was a helicopter which seemed extremely tall. In front of me sat a tall man, whom I could not identify at first. He was a lot taller than me and fatter than I ever was. He wore a Bermuda style shirt, seemed to be about my age despite his size and stank of cheap Cologne. He looked familiar. Wasn't he an actor of sorts? But the way he looked was from way back in that basketball movie. The man was eating candy bars and had done so for a while judging by the wrappers spread on the seat next to him and the floor. "What are you looking at, kid?" He sure sounded like that actor. "Kid"? But I'm not a kid, I'm forty. Then something hit me on the head. "Are you awake again? Get back to sleep, Tim! And keep you mouth shut!" Who is Tim? Who is this girl talking like that to me? I turned my head to face her, expecting this girl beneath me but found that she too was taller. She was blond and wore hear hair in a ponytail topped by a baseball cap. She would not have been older than fourteen and she too looked very familiar. Wasn't she an actor too, but way back in the '90's? Back when... "Wait a second! Where are we?" Again the girl hit me, this time smacking me on the ear. This made me dislike her instantly. "Stop hitting me!" "Please, stop hitting me, Lex!" She hit me again. As she did I turned away and noticed my own legs. The were small and exposed: I wore shorts. I was small! And these people weren't tall, but simply older. This wasn't right as I'm forty! But I wasn't now. "Lex? And I'm Tim? And then that's..." Again she hit me while the adult man just looked away ignoring us while eating his candy bar. Now I figured out who he was. But that meant... And again I was hit, harder this time. The next blow I caught before it struck, but the girl just laughed. "I don't think I like you." "Say it and I'll stop! Say: please stop hitting me, Your Majesty!" The seat next to the adult mentioned "Ingen" in its logo which confirmed my suspicion while not relieving my confusion. From what I could tell I was not myself, but someone else and part of a different reality. But that someone else was mostly a stranger and fitting in would not be simple. "Lex, if you have any idea where we're going, you might want to be nice to me. Because you might not be going to where you think you're going." The girl looked at me with great confusion and effectively stopped hitting me. "What do you mean? We're about to have a vacation and grandpa's place. What could go wrong?" I turned my gaze to the fat man in front of me and looked him in the eyes right through his sunglasses. "What can go wrong will go wrong! Many things can go wrong, Lex. And even our dear gifted grandfather may not see all that moves in his business. He might not know everything he thinks he knows." In front of me the adult man suddenly looked back and shifted his weight uncomfortably. "Hey, little rat! I know your grandpa is our big boss and everything. But could you please keep your mouth shut for a while, at least until we get there? That would be nice, thank you!" I kept up my look even as he averted his eyes to look out over the ocean beneath us. At this point I had the ability to stop certain events from happening and was considering tackling the root problem. And from what I had gathered I did understand this man's frustrations. But this man had no future no matter what the outcome seeing his wrecked state of health by his own doing. Certain events had already happened and could no longer be undone. Lex grabbed me be my collar and dragged me up close. She looked angry and gave me a punishing look. She whispered at me. "You seem weird, more than usual. You better check your attitude mister, or you'll regret it!" This wasn't in that movie. But then again there never was any kind of back story about "us". +++++++++++++ Welcome to Jurassic Park It took a few hours for us to arrive at the island. This time I used as good as I could to get a grip of who and what I was. Obviously my name was Tim Murphy, or perhaps "Timothy" Murphy as I remembered "Lex" was short for "Alex". My guess first guess about my body was that it was about nine or ten years old. My body was certainly a lot slimmer and in better condition than my old one. Full of potential, but also with a potential for mental issues. Keeping my mouth shut as much as possible seemed like a good idea as my accent would be off compared to the American accents used in the movies. On top of that English isn't actually my first language as opposed to the original Tim. Although this might not have had huge consequences, keeping a low profile during this accident seemed more wise. Alan Grant's book was in my hands during the flight and I started reading as much as I could. Some of what he wrote I already knew and some of his information I knew to be outdated. Not that this mattered as I did not plan to interact much with the main cast. We landed at the same helicopter pad I had very recently seen in a rewatch. The landing was a bumpy event and during this time I felt pain beneath my clothes. The pain seemed concentrated in patches and I was eager to take a look at them as soon as possible. At the landing platform two vehicles were waiting. One of them was meant for the adult accompanying us, whose name was "Nedry" I remembered by now. The man quickly left the helicopter and grabbed his bags from the cargo hold before speeding off. The other one was meant for my sister and me. Staff offloaded our bags quickly and had us mounted in the vehicle within moments. "Your grandpa will arrive tomorrow. We will take you to your room. Stay there until we tell you to come out." I look at Lex who looks back with a grin. Her grin I did not like one bit for it spelled mischief. "Please tell me we get separate rooms." The adult looked back at me and shrugged. "Sure! Considering what your grandpa pays us, we will sure grant you all your wishes." And so naturally the staff provided me an emptied broom closet with exactly one tiny mirror and an old mattress on the floor. Lex had a better time with her room, being simply more liked and seen as a better access to out grandfather's wealth for staff allocated to us. Food was soon provided to Alex while I had to wait for her to finish. Clearly this was different compared to the movie I remembered, but in a grand multiverse there simply is no telling where you get to go. The time I had to wait for food I use checking out what was in my bags. Lex sure took her time to eat so I did have plenty of time. Tim mostly had clothes with him but not all clothes I remembered him wearing in the movie sat in there. And neither did he have soap nor deodorant. Of course there was no telling if this was a neglect, a prank from Lex or if these were supposed to be provided here. In any case I did not have any. What I did find however was some cash stowed away in a hidden compartment! "Excuse me!" My guard looked up as I addressed him looking puzzled. "You have a funny accent. What do you want?" I shrugged and showed him some dollar notes. This got the guy's attention right away. He approached me ready to grab the money but I kept it away from his fingers. "I need soap and a place to wash up. And I need candy bars. You may keep the change, but only when you provide what I asked." "But senior, you are allergic. Your grandpa gave us strict instructions to keep you away from the candy vending machines." This sure wasn't in the movie either. But then again... Multiverse! "I won't eat them. But I need them! And I won't go near these vending machines if you'll get them for me." The man shrugged, then nodded when I handed him his first dollar notes. "Alright... Whatever... I'll be back in a moment." And indeed soon a few bags of candy arrived at my closet for which I paid a second time. The rest of Tim's money I handed over when a bathroom was provided. For this the guard kept people away for this private moment. This bathing room had a large mirror for which I needed a chair to see myself. My jacket came off and then shirt. I already recognised Tim's child actor's face, confirming my new identity. And when I turned around my suspicions were confirmed to the source of my pain: bruised patches on my back and buttocks. Just my luck: the Tim of this version certainly was an abused child. By who I could not guess, but from my first impressions I suspected Alex. Perhaps our parents as well? Maybe this was the cause of their divorce? But if so, why was I not separated from Lex? What was the real reason we were here? If the reason was "to get away" staying with my sister would be ineffective. Perhaps grandpa knew of the abuse but not of Lex' role? As soon as I could I finished my shower and then rushed back to my tiny room. By now Lex had finished her meal and left very little to me. And that very little clearly had spit on it and so there was nothing left, except for some water in the bathing room. Having spent all of the cash I found my guard would no longer help me leaving me only with the candy I could not eat as I did not know anything about Tim's health issues and did not want to spend the next day indoors being sick. For tomorrow I knew would turn this world upside-down. +++++++++++++ Starting the tour Of course the next day came without John Williams' music hurting my ears. But it came nevertheless with leftover breakfast from Alexia's breakfast, to be eaten quickly before out moment with the main cast. I ate whatever my new sister left edible seeing this day would last very long and with some luck be the last day I had to deal with her, no matter the outcome. And for that, I might have to change the outcome. On a strict schedule I was allowed some bathing time. Stocking up on water both in my belly and a flask Tim happened to have smuggled in his bags along the flight I cut it even shorter, but it was enough thanks to some Dutch experience. This "Grandpa" had his actor's face. Nevertheless I played my initial role jumping him as soon as my guards released me on cue along with my dear sister. We yelled "Grandpa!" as loud as possible then pushed him lovingly down on the stairs until he started protesting. Alan Grant, Ian Malcolm and Ellie Sattler were right there behind him along with Gennaro, our bane. I knew their actors better than their real selves, but knew what I had seen onscreen. I did not play the "Tim" I knew, but played myself keeping myself quiet even in the presence of these "big people". And so Alan Grant was treated with the quietness he wished for and Ian found himself challenged on his deterministic views on evolution before entering the tour. But most of all these adult main cast members provided me with a shield from my dear sister. They provided me with a shield which would not question my stock of candy bars stuck in my jacket. When we finally reached the cars I picked the front vehicle which Lex and Tim were supposed to ride in. Gennaro was with us as intended, not too happy to be stuck with us. Nevertheless I tried to take a seat next to him to stay away from my sister, but was firmly told to remain in the back. "What's the matter, Tim? You're not acting normal, at least to your standards. And you're talking in a very strange manner." I shrugged at Lex and braced for more abuse. "What's it to you? You'd be talking funny too if all you had in a day were spit-on crumbs. Be aware that karma will come and she will come sooner than you think." Alexia's smirk slowly turned serious, then transformed into complacency. "I'll tell mom as soon as we're back. You'll be sleeping in the doghouse for a month, you little rat!" "This little rat will never forget, dear sister, nor shall it forgive. What has been done cannot be undone." Lex struck out her fist at me aiming at one of my bruises confirming she probably had been a cause of them, but I stopped her fist and deflected. Her deflected fist landed on the seat in front of her, upsetting Gennaro! "Will you two be quiet? Settle down and enjoy the view! Or I'll have you left behind in there for tonight." Lex quieted down quickly and so did I. Two huge brown doors appeared and opened letting us in. The radio was unleashing a torrent of information as it had been since we mounted the car. This was one opportunity none in my old life would get. Suddenly I felt excited and happy as a child. "Welcome to Jurassic Park!" +++++++++++++ Touring the park Our tour of this new dinosaur park seemed to follow the movie script exactly. The Dilophosaurus was invisible. Then our cars stopped and the Tyrannosaurus' Rex' fence and attempted to lure her with the goat. None were impressed. Finally after a while the convoy came to a halt and the scientists dismounted their car. As scripted I too got out and followed suit to finally see the sick Triceratops. Not willing to miss the opportunity I touched the rough and bare skin. The thing was quite stinky, though. I did not interfere with the scientists' investigation, feeling no urge to help dig in dino manure. Wandering off on my own for a loo break kept me out of Lex' sight. She was still preoccupied with the sick animal to notice. Gennaro called upon the scientists to get a move on things right cue of the first lightning strike, as he did in the movie. That moment I felt a sense of nervousness, like that moment a rollercoaster is on the move to its worst part and you cannot escape any more. My only comfort was the knowledge my stomach contained little to throw up. Slowly the vehicles started rolling backwards as soon as Dr Malcolm and Dr Grant were aboard. Right then I heard a wrapper open. I looked at Lex and to my horror I saw her eat one of my candy bars. Feeling around my jacket now noticed some of my pockets were empty. "Hey, you thief! Give me back my candy!" "You can't eat them anyway! You'll throw up! And besides, you can't have any extra food. Rats only get to have crumbs!" Luckily Lex had only eaten one or two but she sat right on top of the rest. Enraged I flung myself at her and pushed her off to grab what I could. She resisted and laughed, but my efforts got my pockets filled again. Then suddenly I felt a hard knock on my skull and a torrent of water running down my clothes. Lex had stolen my flask as well and now spilled on top of me soaking my clothes. Gennaro had enough and pushed me back into my seat. This prevented me from getting them all back, but I recovered enough. He barked at me. "Knock it off!" Be glad you're not my kid, you little brat, or you would feel my belt right now!" "Oh he gets that all the time at home." Cheerfully Alexia ate the candy she managed to keep. At this point I was boiling with rage as were bruises were now well explained. I expected the adult to start hitting me but right then the vehicle we were in came to an abrupt end. Finally! We were at the T-rex pen! With the storm picking up and the darkness of the night setting in visibility was poor. Both Gennaro and my sister gazed outside in confusion as we lost power. This gave me an opportunity to sneak into the back and tap into the emergency kit. There I found the night goggles featured in the movie, but I ignored them. Instead I picked out one of the roadside flares and his in one of my freed-up pockets. Nervousness arose around the car. Lex looked around and tried to see outside. Neither of them had noticed yet the flashing light at the fence had switched off. The goat was still audible at this point letting both my car's co-occupants know exactly where we stopped. "What's going on?" "A lightning strike must have hit a power cable somewhere, kid. Repair crew should be on it." But of course I knew this storm had provoked an evacuation of all but the essential staff. Nedry's sabotage was in full effect and we were all in mortal danger right now. I was nervous too but tried to stay calm trying to find solutions in my foreknowledge. "If you both value your lives keep absolutely still and quiet. Do not move unless absolutely necessary. Attracting attention will turn this car into one big coffin." Both Gennaro and Lex looked at me in confusion and fear. Panic was brewing in both of them. At this point the goat was no longer audible and the adult too now noticed the flashing at the fence had stopped. A thunder and tremor rolled through the car signalling the start of our disaster. "Keep your hands off that torch, Lex!" She looked at me. "Of the what?" "The flashlight at the back." Lex turned her head around and landed her gaze on the emergency kit I had retrieved the flare from. Oh no! +++++++++++++ Meeting Rexy Rexy was here, right now. She was close to the fence snacking on that goat. A lightning strike lit up the road and revealed the empty feeding pad. Lex asked her dumb question. "Where's the goat?" A moment later the severed goat leg landed on top of our car. Another lightning strike illuminated the Tyrannosaurus' Rex' head devouring her prey and gulping it down. Her front claw was on the fence wires bending them. Panic struck both Lex and Gennaro taking the breath out of them both. I too felt fear, but managed to control it. I tried to keep still and quiet while my sister was frozen in fear. The adult man at the front seat promptly pissed himself, pushed open the front door and ran to the nearby lavatory in panic, inadvertently drawing the animal's attention outside its enclosure. "Dr Grant?" One-by-one the fence's steel cables snapped in quick succession under the animal's weight. Her roar came out while lightning revealed her huge body stepping into the street. Her breath resembled the smell of a garbage truck and her open jaws made her look like terrible monster. Yet I saw a impressively beautiful animal, despite her lack of plumage. "Stay absolutely still." Was what Dr Grant was telling Dr Malcolm right now. But for us in the first car this was an impossible order. Even if Alexia wasn't a moment away from turning on that flashlight the puddle of stench Gennaro had left behind both on his seat and right outside the car would work like a magnet on the predator. The animal's attention was laid upon us even before Lex mad our situation worse by lighting up the car. "Lex! If you wish to live turn off that light and try to reach Dr Grant and Dr Malcolm. This car is now a coffin!" "He left us! He left us! He left us!..." Incessantly my new sister wailed and repeated the same phrase over and over again. There was nothing I could do now that would help her as she would insist on defending her light and resist my attempt to shut it off. And on top of that I am not a fan of throwing up anything. Quickly I opened my door and got out into the downpour, then froze right by the back wheel. The ground shook as the Tyrannosaurus approached the vehicle. I did not even look up as any movement would prove fatal. The animal was curious about Lex' light and have its gaze upon it soon. The moment the animal's head was near Lex looking into the light I made my next move and ran behind her, avoiding her tail which swept low across the street by staying close to her back feet. Then I reached for the flare to execute the diversion I had seen Alan Grant do in the movie. I filled my lungs while the rain died down and stopped. "Hey Rexy!" A roar came in reply to my cry and the predator turned her head to see the source of this fresh sound. I lit the torch and slowly took a few steps back, waving the red light seeing her eyes focus on the torch. Then she took a step toward me turning away from Lex. The animal roared making my eardrums nearly shatter. "Nice to meet you too!" This last remark was intended to relief some of my state of fear and terror, but also provoked the predator to turn her body and take another step. I moved the flare from side to side capturing her gaze in response, then tossed it hard into her broken enclosure as I had seen Dr Grant do. And just as in the movie the Tyrannosaurus' Rex' chased the flare into her home. As she did her tail came into contact with the car shaking off the rail it and making Lex lose her light. What did I do? Did I just save my bully? I looked behind me seeing Dr Grant and Dr Malcolm leaving their car. Dr Grant looked at me angrily but I ignored him momentarily bringing my attention to the still nearby predator investigating the dwindling flare. "Tim! What do you think you're doing? You're breaking the story! Get back in that car!" "Dr Grant, are you insane? These cars are coffins! The park has been sabotaged and these things won't be bringing us back. We need to hide right now, stay quieted and wait from Muldoon to come and pick us up." "Tim! Get back in that car and don't come out until you see Gennaro's intestines fly over." "But..." Right then my dear sister Lex had found another way of drawing the T-rex' attention and started sounding the horn repeatedly. In disbelief I turned to the first car and saw Lex looking back at me with the same anger as Dr Grant. "Is she insane? She'll be luring Rexy back. Does she want to die?" But Dr Grant pointed his finger to the honking vehicle and even approached me and pushed me on my supposed way. "Get back in that car! Follow the story!" "But... What story? What are you talking about?" I was confused even as some of it somehow could make sense. Because this clearly wasn't either the story from the movie or the book. The ground was trembling as the giant animal was back on the move. "Get back in that car!" "But... But... I don't want to throw up. That's disgusting. And besides Rexy would break a tooth if we were to follow..." But Dr Grant kept on pointing and repeating his command over and over again. Meanwhile Alexia kept on hitting that horn. Was I down Alice's rabbit hole? Because at this point everyone seemed insane. +++++++++++++ Point-blank range First I made a dash for the land rover, but not to join Lex inside. Instead I hurled a handful of mud at her to make her quit the honking. This upset her, but also achieved its goal. Then I passed the car to move to the edge of the T-rex enclosure, where a ledge and a cable down would await as I remembered. Inside the fenced area the predator was on her way to my position and resume her attack on our car. So I waved at her drawing attention and making her avert her run toward the bottom of this wall. "Goodbye sister! Find yourself another punching bag!" For sure there were easier ways for the predator to reach, but for some reason she chose the direct route and ended up at the bottom of the wall beneath me. She tried to jump and snap at me, but failed to reach my height. She looked lick a baby bird, having its beak wide open to be fed. A slim nine-year-old body like Tim's might just fit in, but I could not be sure nor did I actually intend to find out. But this was the only route available to me. My shoes I had worn all day, in this humid and hot climate. Therefore there would be a lot of sweat and stench coating their inside. Since the next movie mentioned the Tyrannosaurus' Rex' extreme sense of smell I decided to try use that to my advantage. And so Tim's socks and shoes came of and were hurled down aimed at her nose. Both object hit their mark annoying the animal. As soon as I tossed them down I squatted down and froze. This made the animal think I had fallen down along with the shoes. Her nose and focus diverted to the soil beneath her to find my shoes and quickly devour them. R.I.P. shoes! This diversion allowed me to climb down toward the Tyrannosaurus' Rex, away from the mad people who accompanied me before. At this point the most probable outcome seemed death, but there was nowhere else to go. A lot of people would be jealous to walk my shoes right now. Using the cable I made my way toward the exposed back of the animal, which would only be there for the time it took the animal to eat my shoes. And now finally Tim's malnourishment and abuse seemed to pay off as his weight seemed to hardly register to the predator when I landed. This animal felt warm and smooth under my feet, but also slick and slippery from the rainfall. Barefooted I was able to find some grip on Rexy's skin and latched myself onto her back near the shoulders. Only because of the rudimentary folds of the shoulder was I able to hang on for the moment. Thankfully my sister Lex had stopped honking that car when I slung mud at her face and did not resume her annoyance. When I looked above me I could see her on the wall along with Dr Malcolm, Dr Grant and Gennaro watching down on me. For some reason they all started waving their arms to something behind them. Hanging onto the predator I did not have any means of responding. Beneath me the Tyrannosaurus seemed to be scanning the floor to find the fallen mouse she suspected to be there. A moment later something flew by my face and hit the nearest tree. The object was a tranquilizer dart. When I looked up I could see a new silhouette standing on the wall. Judging by the half-curled hat this was for sure Muldoon who must have arrived as scripted. But for him to mis a this huge stationary made me wonder about his competence, unless of course he was aiming at me! The impact of the tranquilizer dart had startled the T-rex and brought her attention back up. Muldoon's tranquilizer gun pointed up and he didn't seem to make any attempt to reload. None of the people up above seemed to be attempting anything to help me out. Therefore Tim had no friends among people whatsoever and neither did I. Jumping down was no option as her back was too high and by the time I hit the ground Rexy would likely have caught me mid-air. Right now the predator had not noticed me but she was about to as her movement would negate any attempt to remain motionless. So another solution was required. I was near Rexy's shoulders which mean there were muscle junctions beneath. Of course Tim's body was light and frail, but there was no other alternative besides death. I pushed my fist into her back seeking out the tendons before running it hard across and removing my fist. This process I repeated as quickly as possible pressing in as hard as possible. Before her gaze landed upon me, the Tyrannosaurus' Rex became aware of my presence. The stimulation I offered should have been and was a universally pleasant one. The move confused her briefly as most prey would try to get away rather than confront, much less comfort their predator. Above the crowd was watching down on the spectacle. Muldoon now reloaded, aimed and fired at me again. I could see the dart leaving his weapon and slowly spin and approach. For some reason it seemed to slow down to a speed I could easily hit and deflect it to the same tree the first dart landed in. "What on Earth are you trying to do? Are you trying to kill me? She'll be doing that in a bit no doubt. There's no need to make this situation any worse." Now the predator was aware of my presence and position. My incessant rubbing caused a pleasant sensation for the animal and she almost seemed to laugh before launching a weak attempt to bite me. Obviously she did she did not fancy biting and hurting herself. The only thing she managed was touch my foot with her nose and blow some hot stinking breath into me. The next attempt to dislodge me came from her tail, but it too lacked force. This did force me to stop the rubbing and hang onto my position. The animal seemed in doubt about removing me there and when I resumed my rub, now on her other shoulder her jaws clambered and a soft roar was audible. Although afraid my mood relaxed a bit and felt happy my efforts paid off. I looked up again at the crowd. "What are you looking at? If I'm to go into her belly and die in a moment I won't be going as a mere piece of meat. I'm going in as a friend if I can, unjudged and on good terms." +++++++++++++ Young animal For a while the giant predator remained puzzled to what her prey was doing. The crowd above was dissolving slowly, but they no longer were a factor. Still I was trapped in my position and I knew the novelty would wear off soon. Death still seemed inescapable. After a while the animal finally lowered her body. I prepared for action as there was a another solution for the Tyrannosaurus Rex. And sure enough when she hit the ground she started to roll like a dog. And so I had to run across her side and chest to avoid getting crushed. Quickly I jumped off and started to create distance. But then after rubbing her back Rexy rolled back toward me. I was about to get crushed and only found a footprint of her to take cover. This small wet pit only had space for just my small child body, curled up in a ball, but not for additional air. For what seemed a very long time the Tyrannosaurus' Rex' soft belly pressed into my face. I could actually hear the digestive process of her stomach with the dead goat inside and pictured myself in there. I had no air at all except for what was left in my lungs. I was getting crushed and felt my organs getting compressed under all this weight of dinosaur guts. Helplessly I waited. Suddenly the pressure lifted and the predator's belly came off me. I gasped for air as a back claw landed right next to me, piercing my jacket with a talon. The animal moved off and turned roaring while I gasped and coughed for air. Again my eardrums were brought to the brink while I tried to push some of the mud off my face. "Come on then, Rexy! Do you really want a small and meagre rat for dinner? Even that goat had more meat than me." Fear gave way to complacency and I stayed low to the ground facing the predator lowering her open jaws and tensing her muscles for the attack. The smell of that garbage truck hit my nose but I no longer cared. Becoming her food wasn't the worst way to go, I figured. "Bring it on, girl!" She leaped forward reaching my position within a moment. But by freezing and staying low I was invisible to the animal. She did hear my coughs a few moments earlier and focussed on that to try and scoop me up. My countermove was to leap forward at the very last moment to the next footprint in front of me. The animal's lower jaw ran across my back as I hugged the mud. She roared again as I got up and jumped through her back legs. Her tail swung over my head, then hit me and flung me through the air. Again the Tyrannosaurus' Rex turned and roared. She knew she had hit me and saw me coming down near the wall. Her jaws clambered again and again there was a soft roar like when I was rubbing her shoulder. She was enjoying herself, playing with her prey and seemingly having scored a point on me. I felt a bit dizzy and needed a moment to regain my focus. I found myself near the drain featured in the movie. Water was still rushing out from the storm, but steadily the force of the water was subsiding. I climbed into it quickly, then sat at the edge. "That hurt a bit, girl. But I don't blame you." The Tyrannosaurus' Rex hear me and approached again. For a moment I contemplated just waiting where I was and granting the predator her prize. She slowed down however when she got close to the drain knowing too well this was an escape route she could not counter. Because I let her get close the predator again was left in confusion. When she was in reach I just pulled in my feet, but remained at the edge. "It's alright, Rexy. I don't fancy dying, again... But you are not a monster. You are quite popular, you know. You've got some fans where I'm from." Of course she would not understand a word I said. But she understand only her closed jaws could fit into this drain. Sitting quietly as she lowered her head I again was invisible. Because of the water, mud and the smothering of her own belly she could not smell my human odour. Only my voice and the known location of the drain were her guide. As soon as her nose pushed into the drain I touched the predator both a hand and a foot. As she moved her snout inside I was pushed in deeper. She could hardly open her jaws so there seemed little she could do to dislodge me. Then out came the tongue. Most people would be distressed at encountering this large stinky piece of meat smothering saliva all over their face, but I didn't mind. She could not get a grip on me with her tongue. Sharp teeth came down next to me as she tried to grab me with her upper jaws. The animal could tell I was there as there was good and intentional contact from my behalf. The next time her tongue came out I grabbed it and held it in a firm grip. When I felt the predator pulling on me in response I simply let go seeing the jaws disappear from the concrete hiding space. Rexy tilted her head and set her eye up at the edge trying to see where I was. This lured me closer to touch the lower rim of her eyes gently letting her know I was still there. A new push inside came with greater force and nearly caught my leg under her lower jaw. Her tongue came out to claim me but again I grabbed it, twisting it in a grip and then gently started stroking it. With the length of Tim's arm I ran its length even reach into the jaws gambling the animal would not bite her own tongue intentionally. It took a few moments but the animal seemed to relax upon my touch. A soft roar came out reducing to almost a purr. She opened her jaws as much as the limited space in the drain would allow and I could see the back of her throat almost beckoning me. When I let go of my grip the Tyrannosaurus' Rex' tongue remained on my lap like a long wet wiener dog. "I will give you something for your trouble. I hope you don't mind." With my freed hand I opened and reached into one of my jacket's inner pockets. In there I found and retrieved one of the candy bars. Of course my jacket and all of my other clothes were completely soaked, but the wrappers kept my sweets in prime condition. I opened the candy bar's wrapping with my teeth, then landed the item onto the tongue running it up and down and smearing it all over. This very much pleased the predator who pulled it in to enjoy her candy, then ran her tongue out across my lap again to receive a second dose of sugar. "Young girl... If you get to eat me, please do think of me kindly... Even if you don't understand what I'm saying right now." A soft purr rolled through the drain. And she continued to purr well after I emptied that pocket and only offered my arm. Too bad Tim wasn't here, at least this version of Tim, for it might had given him some relief from the abuse he obviously had to endure. But then again he might not have acted the way I did. Rexy's hot and rotten breath got worse the closer you were. And I was now touching her upper lip with my shoulder. Certainly by now in a flash move with one of her upper teeth she could latch onto me and drag me out. But she did not move until she got bored and decided to back away from the drain. When the predator backed up I returned to the concrete edge sitting there more comfortably than before as the water had subsided to a trickle. Backing away the animal only gave me another soft purr before turning her back to me and venturing deeper into her broken enclosure. +++++++++++++ Back to civilisation Where was I to go? I hardly knew where I was and certainly in the dark it would be impossible for me to return to the visitor centre. After all young Rexy would not be the only predator out to get me and the crowd which had watched us earlier had vanished. And so the next morning I woke up in the middle of a Rex' nest, Rexy's nest, all by myself and hungry, but in relative good health. Seeking shelter for the night I had followed her and approached her as she slept. Despite the smell sleeping in her shadow proved to be quite comfortable due to her warmth and smooth skin. Of course she could have eaten me right when she woke up, but she either didn't see me or didn't care to. The poor animal must have been hungry having had much less to eat than scripted. Both in the books and movies tunnels had been mentioned. I had no idea in what state these would be in this seemingly movie-leaning script, but that goat yesterday did not come out of the ground when the crew tried to lure the T-Rex. Indeed when I made it to the feeding platform it was clear this platform was an elevator trying to get down again. However when Rexy had taken goat she had also damaged the elevator. Some of the goat's broken chain was stuck at the elevator's edge and prevented it from descending again. A few bashes with the broken metal post soon fixed this problem. Immediately the elevator started to descend into the interior of the island while above me the doors shut. The risk of getting eaten was averted. But I also dreaded going back to sister Lex and the others. After all some of them were abusive and angry I did not stick to whatever script they had a sacred devotion to. When I arrived at the bottom of this feeding elevator I was not alone. Two large adult men dressed in Ingen uniforms and wearing sunglasses, even though we were all underground, took hold of me and dragged me to an open goat cage mounted on a long conveyor belt. "Get in, little rat!" "How rude! I just fixed your elevator and I nearly got eaten last night. I haven't eaten in a day and I need to get to the loo pretty quickly." "Get in! John Hammond' orders!" My cage was locked as soon I settled in. Then one of the Ingen touched a red button on a wall panel to send me of through Isla Nublar's dark tunnel complex. My cage travelled at Minecraft trolley speed and appeared similar, apart from the cage mounted on top. The conveyor belt would twist and turn regularly. When the cage finally slowed down it ran up a small slope, then stopped. Another elevator turned into action and lifted me up toward a pair of opening ceiling doors. Once through I arrived in the middle of the visitor centre's main hall among the dinosaur skeletons and among a crowd which included the scientists, Gennaro, my sister Lex and a red-face grandfather John Hammond who stepped towards pointing a very large finger at me. "Young man! You broke the script! And knock off that funny accent!" For a moment I blinked in confusion. "I broke the script? What script? There's more than one story with this theme. There's one where Lex is an eight-year-old and you die by compies and then there's another very similar, but there sure isn't a story where Tim is being abused by his sister and parents and who knows who else. And besides: I'm not even actually Tim!" Now it was grandpa's turn to blink in confusion, while wearing the deceased actor's face. "And besides, if you want to keep animals like this, including young predators, you should work on enrichment like games and toys and food games. Otherwise they tend to get bored and spend their time thinking about escaping." "Get this thing out of here, grandpa. Please!" "Get him out of here! You guys know what to do!" Indeed this was as a matter of fact Alice's rabbit hole with a lunatic population. +++++++++++++ A feeder rat Once again I descended onto the conveyor belt and was transported off to what I suspected to be some secret dungeon he kept unruly employees and business partners at. However my cage made a sharp turn very shortly after setting off and was lifted up into a new room. Two more Ingen employees complete with unnecessary sunglasses were waiting for me there. One of them was reading something off a display at the wall, then turned to his mate. "The boss is telling us to feed this little rat to the assets." The second employee looked at me first then turned his gaze back to the other. "We really should not overfeed these things. That's a form of animal cruelty, you know?" The first employee indifferently shrugged. "The boss' orders: feed them rats and beef. And here's a rat!" Whatever was about to happen wasn't good. I needed to think quickly. "Erm... Guys... Can you give me a small loo break at least? I mean... You will be doing some nasty clean-up soon, won't you? If you let me you at least won't have to clean up THAT" I could nearly see the employees' skull crack as they overthought my request, then they nodded. "You have a funny accent, kid. But you can have your break. Don't take too long though." And so we were off and indeed a small loo break was quite necessary. But that wasn't the main reason I came here. I needed something to sabotage that feeding elevator as they had already proven themselves cheap and frail. I took the tie I could afford to hide a toilet brush under my clothes and wash my hands properly as even in the worse event making poor animals sick wasn't nice at all. The sunglasses hampered the employees' sight and neither of them noticed the bulge under my shirt. As to be expected from a nice little rat I quietly returned to my cage and nodded, as if these men needed my approval. Another red button was pushed, after the employees had removed the cage's top, opening a ceiling hatch and my feeding platform started rising into a long shaft. Within a minute the top doors illuminating the shaft and revealing a convenient but tiny emergency ladder attached to on side as well as convenient other latches and devices on the opposite side. On top of that there was a very convenient forgotten tiny drilling hole below the hatch above me I could stick the brush's handle in at the last moment. As expected my feeding platform could not handle the small brush stuck in its path and started to bend down as it reached to top. Its failure came a little too fast and had to jump off quickly if I didn't want to fall down the shaft. The cage's sides broke off and started to crash down the shaft causing a racket. "Oh no..." When I looked up I saw the open noon sky and a massive roof cage dome, barbed wire and electric wire running around the ceiling. A large centaury tower was located at a corner of this large concrete rectangle. Large ferns and bushes were scattered all around the cage as well as cattle bones and a couple of human skulls. Three large Velociraptors were near me, with one significantly bigger than the other two. Luckily for me a fresh and partially eaten bull carcass also lay near me and all three raptors were asleep with their bellies bulging from their recent feed. Right now not even the crashing feeding cage would not bother them and their eyes remained shut. "I should have jumped down Rexy's throat yesterday!" +++++++++++++ Meeting Big One Even with the noise of the collapsing feeding elevator none of the Velociraptors seemed remotely bothered and kept on snoring. Saturated and overfed they couldn't even if they wanted to. Any prey, human or otherwise, normally could not escape their pen. Firmly asleep the biggest of the trio was approachable and so I did. People were watching from the tower, but since the raptors were inactive their attention wore off quickly. Because I approached the most menacing of them this show would be short and dull anyways. Foliage obstructed their view of the broken feeding pad. "I suppose running around won't do me much good with you guys, will it? So I might as well sit here." I settled down next to Big One and reached into my other inner pocket: the one not yet emptied. Curled up the animal, he or she, did neither notice nor care until some of my human stench hit her nose. A low snarl became audible, the eyes opened and teeth were shown. Immediately a candy bar was pushed into her mouth: a chewy caramel flavoured sweet locking up her jaws while flooding her tongue with sugar. Of course the Velociraptor still had claws to attack, but the move startled it enough to slow down any attack. The mouth started working on the candy which visibly became enjoyable to the animal. My stomach started grumbling making me realise I hadn't eaten anything in a day. It seemed funny that only the menacing raptors could feed on my stock while I could not. Food became a top priority even as I was being food myself at the moment. So I got up again to get a move on things while my stomach protested again, louder this time and waking up the other two animals. I looked back at all three of them and patted my belly. "It's my guts! I don't think you really hate my guts as they might appear tasty to you. But there's nothing in there right now making them noisy. You guys know the feeling, right?" Getting to the edge of the elevator shaft I looked down on the feeding platform tilting down into the shaft. It had not fallen down yet so there was a potential for it to land in my neck on its way down, certainly if a big Velociraptor decided to follow me down. I looked back at Big One who was now getting up having processed most of the candy bar by now. A loud scream came out of the animal while I placed a foot onto the platform and added some weight to it. The platform cracked and buckled, before sheering off and tumbling into the shaft. Surprisingly it did not hit any sides on its path down and only made a crashing noise when it reached the bottom. As calmly as I could I looked back at Big One, pointed at myself and then down the shaft. "I'll be going down. It's dark, deep and very dangerous in there. If you attack me or chase me down this pit we will both get hurt. Your bellies are full so please be patient." The predator in front of me looked back in confusion. There was no telling whether understood any noise I made, but it was supposed to intelligent enough to pick up something. With a smiling salute I crouched at the shaft's edge and sought out the emergency ladder before climbing down. +++++++++++++ Target the main generator! A long and dangerous journey down the interior of Isla Nublar was forced upon Tim's frail body. Thankfully it was up to the challenge even at this stage. A steady pace was kept up allowing me to slip into the shaft's darkness quickly. This hid me from the Velociraptor's eyes looking down on me, but also meant I had to climb down blindly. Surprisingly the emergency ladder was sturdy and completely intact. Sticking to it meant a relatively safe path for me. I could not see the bottom of this shaft while above me the source of light became ever smaller. None of the Velociraptors came after me being intelligent enough not to perform stupid stunts like this. But they were awake and I could hear them. At this point of my short existence in this mad world I no longer feared them, even though I dreaded the possibility of them sharing sadistic traits like my kind. This long travel down gave me some time to think. For some reason people here were so obsessed with this "script" they were willing to send a nine-year-old to a torturous death. This was true when our cars broke down at the Tyrannosaurus' Rex' enclosure and this was true just a short while ago. Tim and I had no friends among humans it seemed, only enemies. So how do we act among enemies? Without human help I would not be able to get off this island even in my old life. This park was not in the turmoil it had been either in the books or the movies, but being repaired and brought up to be operational once more. And so the disapproval of the scientists did not occur, which I guess was my fault for not sticking to the script. This park needed more turmoil to return to its derailment. This park needed another villain to break it down since having more brains at the centre meant Nedry's sabotage was resolved more quickly. Beneath the elevator shaft the room I had previously been at was dark and quiet. The impact of the falling feeding platform had broken the hatch separating the room from the shaft. Under the broken debris lay both employees motionless. An unfortunate accident but convenient for my escape. Both inside the room and along the corridor outside there was a camera spying on the action with their red lights on. But for some reason no one appeared to be matching their security monitors or there would have been some sort of alarm sounding and men rushing towards this scene. First I made my way into the corridor and looked around to find it empty. Across the corridor there was a small storage room I was able to access. All I needed was a hammer and a torch light, which I found conveniently on the nearest shelf inside that room. The corridor was fully illuminated yet I still used the torch light to track the pipe on the ceiling as these were my only clue to navigate these tunnels. These tunnels were mostly still under construction at this time and occasionally some obstruction was encountered, but nothing my small body could not fit through. In the journey I took to get through the complex network I had no sense of time. Instinctively I kept going on and on until I encountered a spot from in the movie where there was supposed to be a human arm, but right now there wasn't. Here the pipe on the ceiling were more numerous than underneath the Velociraptor pen. Now I knew where I was and increased my speed towards my target. Soon I found my at the generator room featured in the first movie which conveniently did not even have a camera to survey. And there were many buttons to push and so I pushed a great many buttons until finally the machine gave up and all lights switched off. Then I put my hammer to work finishing the job. Not knowing exactly where the generator was in respect to the visitor centre there was no choice for me but to leg it all the way back to the room beneath the Velociraptor pen and start climbing back up. If the predators were still there and I was climbing up to my death at least I would be taking some of these sociopaths with me. +++++++++++++ To the kitchen After a long time of running and climbing I returned to the Velociraptor's enclosure. By now fatigue was starting to set in. My young muscles were sore and I needed water quickly. Despite these displeasures my ordeal wasn't over yet and more physical challenges awaited me. None of the predators were present in the enclosure, having escaped by the same route as in the movie. However by now the sun was again setting marking this to be about the time the movie would have ended. Having broken the script there was no way to know when and how it would end this time. A knocked-over tree provided me with a way to get to the top of the wall and from there both the electric and barbed wire allowed me to finish my escape though not without cutting my hands and feet resulting in my first significant set of wounds throughout this little vacation. From the wall the visitor centre was clearly visible. Screams could be heard in the distance as well as barks and roars of roaming predators. So perhaps I did turn Tim into a villain but who would blame me? Tim would disappear into a single cameo making my move without significant impact on any script of worship. The road to the visitor was coated in blood and gore, although none of the bodies were recognisable. This was not a place for a nine-year-old, but from a certain point of view I wasn't. It was not as if I relished in the scene, but at least I didn't get to throw up. Surprisingly the interior of the main hall was still intact and untouched so it seemed and none of the skeletons were broken. The building was quiet and none of the main cast was waiting for me. My stomach was however waiting for food so my first goal was the large dining room I remembered from the movie. Luckily this dining room was well marked and recognisable due to the painting. Hoping to find food I made my way down the hallway towards the plastic foiled entrance. But these hopes were dashed as soon as I entered the room. My stomach protested, but at least I didn't throw up. Dr Malcolm turned around on his seat and faced me. "Well look what the cat dragged in!" "Well no: those wouldn't last very long in here." Jurassic Park's dining room seemed to be hosting some kind of dinner party, despite having its power sabotaged, featuring the main cast except for Tim of course. Three long tables were set up in a U-shape with John Hammond at the centre seemingly in a conversation with Dr Malcolm in front of him. His actor's face turned red again as before when he noticed me. "Just what do you think you're doing?" "I'm actually busy surviving, or die trying to. That was the second time you people tried to kill me? Did we take a wrong turn out on the ocean and land on Insanity Park instead? What is wrong with you people." Something cold and hard touched my shoulder. When I looked to the side Robert Muldoon was standing next to me pointing his oversized tranquilizer gun at me. He didn't look so happy either but neither did I. "Is this about this supposed script of yours again? Why are you so obsessed by that? This bully here was supposed to get his face bitten off by Clever Girl and that bully wasn't supposed to be a bully at all. So I don't get it at all. The power is out and you're all sitting here like idiots, so what script does that follow? Shouldn't you all be in the bunker under this circumstance?" All were silent as if my voice only made some incomprehensible sounds. Each one of these people stared at me with anger and disgust seemingly hating me for reasons I wasn't even allowed to understand. But there was still some food on that table even if it was mere scraps. When I approached it Dr Grant stood up and stopped me along with Muldoon. "You don't get food until you follow the script! People are watching and so far you're only giving them boredom. You need to follow the script?" My head started to hurt and I felt dizzy. For a moment a haze seemed to drop into the room but disappeared again quickly. Muldoon started to push me on while my grandfather pointed his finger at the kitchen door. "Get in there and don't come out until you lock one of them in that freezer! Follow the script if you want food!" Everyone got up and began to either move the tables aside or leave the room, except for Robert who continued to push me toward the kitchen door, then pushed me inside. "But isn't Lex to be in here too? Tim wasn't alone." But Alexia had already left the dining room and no only Robert Muldoon remained blocking the door and preventing any attempt to escape. This meant that for the first time since the park tour started I was able to take my jacket off and leave it unattended. +++++++++++++ Robert Muldoon's fate Being stuck in this kitchen with Robert Muldoon blocking the door there was nothing for me to do but wait and look around for any food. That however proved futile as the kitchen was as clean and sterile as in the movies despite somehow having just recently cooked up a dinner party. Its storages was empty and the meat in the freezer was still frozen and because of that inedible. The only thing available was some tap water, but due to the power being out only a trickle would run out. I put a beaker under the tap to collect what I could, then turned to the blocked door again where I could see the adult through the tiny window. "You should really join the others, in case they've gone any place safe. These animals will get to you before they get to me after all and your gun there is too big and unwieldy to be of use in here. You would be better off with one of theskitchen knives." "You are not getting out! You will not get food until you start following the script!" "Suite yourself..." It took a while for my beaker to fill, but I had a while to get it filled a couple of times over while fruitlessly searching the kitchen for edibles. This was the kitchen and this seemed like the kitchen scene I remembered but the Velociraptors featured in that scene did not show up. This place turned into nothing but a prison slowly going damp as under the local climate the dead freezer would defrost quickly and leak water into the kitchen. Outside eventually my guard would slowly tire out and sink to the floor before dosing off and starting to snore. Perhaps this was a trap? It was possible this man would hand out abuse if I left the kitchen. So I waited for him to wake up one time and then dose off again before making a move. At the cue of a snore I opened the door and took a good look around the dining room. There certainly were no Velociraptors to be seen or hear. What could be seen was a pig stall with dirty tables and chairs pushed up against the sides while broken plates, bowls and leftover food was scattered and trampled all over the place. Through the windows the first sunrays appeared revealing just how long we had been waiting for the kitchen scene. But none of the predators seemed interested in coming near this place. So my only problem was my adult guard who was sound asleep. A plan emerged within my skull. Swiftly I took the man's curled hat and re-entered the kitchen. The removal of his hat immediately woke up the man and startled he looked around the dining room not registering to open kitchen door. "Good morning, Mr Muldoon! I figured since you're still waiting to get mauled by Clever Girl I could save your hat since it has no major part to play in this script of yours." An angry look appeared on his face and the man got up to step towards me. "Give it back, you little rat! Give it back right now!" But that wasn't my plan. I turned and ran deeper into the kitchen soon pursued by the adult. The freezer lay in my path. Having opened the freezer's door in my search for food I was easily able to toss the hat inside getting it soaked the foul melting water. "You miserable rat!" Robert Muldoon went inside the freezer to retrieve his curled hat. At that moment I slammed the breaks and returned to the freezer as well, shutting its door quickly before locking it as I had seen Tim do in the movie. Through the window I could see my guard's angered face as he banged the door and tried to open it desperately. "Let me out!" "Absolutely not! That's a very bad idea. But you're highly intelligent: you should be able to find a way out." Audibly the hunter was not happy about my reply. But at least he did get a chance to save his face and I had caught myself a monster in that freezer at least somewhat following the script. With Muldoon taken care off I made my way back to the dining room in search for food, but found the main cast had done a thorough job of making sure nothing edible was left. Dehydration had been averted, but my body would not last long without food, especially when physical endurance was a core requirement for this island. Avoiding the shards of broken pottery slowly I began to make my way towards the hallway. Passing Muldoon's oversized gun I found I now lacked the strength to even drag it along. If only I knew of Tim's allergies I could have my hunger would have been tempered with my candy, but I didn't know. I only knew what he ate in the movie and none of the cakes were still around. Before I reached the plastic barrier leading to the hallway a familiar snarl came to my attention. Almost as if the script did not want me to leave they had come. They were here! Was this a good thing or a bad thing? "That T-Rex' belly would have been a cosy place..." +++++++++++++ Kitchen scene Just like in the movie a Velociraptor's shadow suddenly fell onto the painting. It moved towards the entrance followed by two other shadows. Nervousness struck me as my candy bars were still in my jacket and my jacket still lay somewhere in that kitchen. On top of that I knew next to of these animals except that they seemed heavily anthropomorphised in the movies. Hastily I returned to the kitchen in search of my jacket. However it wasn't near the sink where I thought I had left it, but near the storage close to Robert Muldoon's prison. By the time I reached it the predators stood barking and coughing next to the door. And when I grabbed it my jacket fell right out my hands onto the floor as if I still was in my old body. Melting water from the freezer soaked it and made it unwearable. As I grabbed my wet jacket I heard the Velociraptor's growl and the familiar click as the doorhandle was pushed down. Staying down with the jacket seemed like the wiser idea. My position was a lot further away from the door than Lex and Tim were in the movie so I did get a little more time to think. Just like in the movie the predators started scanning each row slowly and systematically. While they were still a good distance away I dreadfully put my jacket back on before moving about. One of Big One's lackeys had stayed behind at the door so there were only "hir" and one other scanned actively. Oddly they ignored Muldoon still trying to open the freezer door. Hir second lackey patrolled the table decks while Big One moved from one row to the next. My movement was restricted to the side furthest away from the kitchen door crawling only when a new row was entered by the raptors on my side. The result was a closing of the distance until they nearly had their nose on top of me. I made sure no spoons were dropped this time. This game of hide-and-seek would not last forever as there was nowhere for me to go with the one Velociraptor guarding the escape route. Which meant my only route would be dealing with these predators anyway I could. There was no plans or scripts to follow, just intuition. Big one and hir pack member turned their attention to the next row having passed me without noticing me. The pack member, who still stuck to the top of the tables suddenly noticed the storage room and diverted from Big One to look inside. Just like I did before the animal found the storage devoid of edibles, but the separation opened a tiny window of opportunity. Making sure none of the other raptors noticed me by staying low I quickly made my way toward the animal's tail while a hand reached into my pocket. Hir focus was in front so she did not notice me approaching until I touched her tail. Startled she turned around with a roar and would have bitten my face off if a caramel flavoured candy bar promptly got stuck into her teeth. This was an awful risk and an act of desperation, but at the moment paid off with a reprieve. The other two Velociraptors were alarmed by the roar and immediately jumped their way to my location, impatiently waiting for the command to attack which Big One right now was unable to give. Running away certainly seemed ineffective according to all scripts I was aware of so despite my nervousness and fear I did not run. Instead my response to the crisis was to climb onto the nearest table, as close as possible to Big One, take off my jacket and simply look her in the eyes as calmly as possible. Big One's lackeys gathered around me not really knowing what to do with me without their leader's command, but also intrigued in this stuff I used to silence hir and seemingly pleasing hir. Not wanting to keep secrets from these animals and create undesired misconceptions. And so I took my coat off and displayed its inside to the predator before proceeding to bring out my last three candy bars. "I'm afraid there's not much left. But if you want your deserts before the main course you can have them." Two quick jumps brought the two lackeys to the long kitchen counter I was sitting on, each taking up a position to one side of me as if to strike a prey. When each brought its snarling face near me each received one of the sweets visibly pleasing the predators. The very last candy bar I offered to Big One who calmly took it conveniently without biting off my hand in the process. Normally Tim should have had a blue shirt, but this one didn't. I was wearing a jacket which had inner pockets and these seemed more useful to me on an island like this. Right now this usefulness was demonstrated as thanks to these pockets an instant brutal killing was turned into a couple of minutes of reprieve. The only layer beneath the jacket was the striped t-shirt seen in the movie, soaked in sweat and starting to stink. It didn't seem to fit as well as when I put it on. "I could really use a bath, guys. I might not taste as well as those sweet." Big One looked at me and snarled with at least establishing the mutual understanding that I would not run. With my hands I brought my t-shirt up to my nose, then showed sign of disgust trying to establish the concept of stench and its discomfort. But of course there was no response from the animal apart from a snarl. By now Big One had pretty much devoured most of her candy and so did the other Velociraptors. All of them seemed to have enjoyed them but these sweets would not be enough to saturate their stomachs. Big One was up close with her snout nearly touching my face and looking my straight in the eyes while I looked back trying to stay calm. Hir lips pulled showing her teeth. "Don't let your lackeys do it. You should do it. Even if you don't understand what my sounds mean." From below I lifted my hand to meet Big One's claws and gently get passed the talons. When my fingers met her skin I picked hir claw up and placed it on my neck trying to encourage Big One to make this slaughter quick and with as little gore as possible. All the while my eyes remained locked into hirs with a calm look and an avoidance of smiling as that might not translate well to these predators. Big One seemed to smile at me as hir teeth came out. Not only did her movement seem slow: they were slow and delicate. Hir claw on my neck felt razor sharp but did not puncture my skin. It ran along my skin slowly towards my throat. "What are you waiting for? Some sudden and overly expected last minute rescue?" A low growl replied to my question as one sharp talon ran downward and hooked onto my t-shirt. A tare was audible while our eyes were locked. Fighting my fears I kept up my look, dreading having to see my own guts again. But right now the claw only ran into that thin stinking rag on my shoulders. Without even scratching my skin the predator dismantled my t-shirt. What followed was a snarl and a growl and Big One broke the eye lock. I looked down and to my surprise saw skin over bones. When I bathed last time I was thin, but not this bad. Having had no food in two days added to a long period of running and climbing seemed to have resulted in this. This felt embarrassing. "Well maybe there's piece of shrivelled liver deep in there. You never know. And there's always bone marrow." Disappointment could be felt throughout the kitchen while my execution was postponed even further. Even I felt disappointed but at least I did not throw up. +++++++++++++ Bella Ciao On my hands there were still wounds from climbing out of the Velociraptor's enclosure. These were mere cuts and did not bother me overly. On my back were old wounds inflicted in a time beyond my memory. An echo of pain lay beyond the fog of this inexplicable transition which started when I woke up in that helicopter. This pain should already have ended, but somehow lingered on. Repeating my move from earlier I placed my hand beneath the Velociraptor's claw and lifted it to my neck. The animal's breath along with that of its pack members came down on me. Here I waited and braced for a hard bite and cuts into my skin. But Big One just let me wait and I looked up to hir a little bit frustrated. "Will you or will you not kill me? Or do I have some plot armour I'm not even aware of? It's ok, you know. Tim's life does not seem liveable. And I do not understand what script I should follow." A loud bark came out of the large Velociraptor and one of hir feet came up and landed next to me as if she wanted to climb the kitchen desk, but the other foot remained on the floor. I shoved my hand underneath and pushed up. For some reason the predator gave way and let me guide it to my leg right up to the knee. When I let lose Big One rested some weight on it, but did not let any of her sharp talons scratch me. This provoked some boldness from me and my hand touched the now up close belly of the predator. A snarl came out but no aggression. "If you will not kill me, the life continues. If you want me to stop you can shut me down with a single bite. And even if you don't understand me it either happens or it doesn't." First I took off the now ripped t-shirt. And then I collapsed onto my open jacket while keeping a soft grip on the claw keeping its talons on my skin as a sign of submission to the animal to whatever its plans were. Next I took a deep breath while an agitated Muldoon was still rocking the freezer's door rambling on about some holy script beyond my comprehension. About this script I cared even less than before, which brought my care to minimal Kelvin levels. First I lay down onto the jacket while for some reason the sharp claw on my neck kept its position. Big One's belly also remained in reach as I slowly started running my hand across it to stay calm. Three sets of breath kept hitting my skin while I searched and found Big One's eyes. I took a deep breath. A song came out of me about Tim, softly but genuine and accurate with lyrics I did not know I could repeat but somehow popped into my head. This was a Dutch song and there were more Dutch songs to be sung. And there were some French and a couple of Italian songs which I could not reproduce in my old life but now my mouth became a radio. In response to the relaxing sounds Big One and her team relaxed. Hir teeth disappeared and the predator offered full access to hir belly. Very briefly hir weight came down on my knee as the other leg now mounted the kitchen desk but with her claws she skill fully eased the weight to tolerable levels. The animal settled down up close resting both of hir back legs across my lap bringing hir belly even closer. Big One calmly listened to my singing and evolved hir audible occasional snarl into occasional purring. This encouraged me to keep my singing going avoiding any English or Spanish songs as these animals could have had some negative feelings when certain words in these languages were to be spoken. Meanwhile an agitated Muldoon was still banging the door and rambling on but we all ignored him. None of us was willing to follow the script and in defiance to his command to stop singing I ended the kitchen scene with the "Bella Ciao" song before all but the monster in the freezer were asleep. +++++++++++++ Leaving When I woke I felt extremely weak. Organs were in the process of shutting down, muscles felt sore and my brains needed some time to process my senses and regain control. There was sunlight outside the kitchen and I could feel the heat rising as the morning progressed. There no longer a Velociraptor resting, partially, on my lap and neither were there any in my sight. However there was something within my reach which triggered my interest: a single Velociraptor egg resting on the kitchen counter on top of the remnants of my t-shirt. It was cracked delicately with a single hole facing me the size of a Velociraptor's claw. I raised myself up and sat myself in lotus seat to face this egg. From one of the movies I remembered Velociraptors did not take kindly to threats to their offspring, born or to be born still. Soon I heard a familiar soft snarl. The kitchen door's handle turned and Big One entered the kitchen, alone this time. We locked eyes once more and I gently bowed in her direction while the predator approached. Slowly I brought my hands to the cracked egg and picked it up. Not quite sure to the meaning of this I held my arms stretched out toward the oncoming animal holding the egg in offer. Big One soon was near me and pushed my hand back gently with hir snout. "Thank you... friend." Normally in my old life I would be disgusted by the thought of raw egg. But in this case fresh, liquid and unseasoned this goo was a feast. In small gulps I slowly emptied the shell feeling my stomach waking up. It contained water, proteins, sugars and salt by nature. While I ate my breakfast I tried to figure out how the displayed monsters of this movie turned out to be quite so tame when interacting with me. Was it because of some plot armour? Was it because so far they only encountered people who were malicious, afraid or both? Or was it due to some convenient script writing? I did not know. Eventually I finished the egg and placed it out, cracking it further open to reveal the void inside. Then I slid off the counter and fitted on my jacket. I wanted to thank Big One again but the animal turned hir head toward the kitchen door with a growl as human noises emitted from its direction. I knew those voices too well and dreaded hearing them. My first move was to unlock the freezer's door allowing Robert Muldoon to open the freezer and leave his miserable prison. Then I approached Big One and placed my hands under her claw as I had done before. Calmly we both approached the kitchen door and left this room. Outside the kitchen in the dining room Big One's pack members approached and joined Big One and me. However the main cast also walked in towards us. Dr Grant was wielding a gun pointing it at Big One and me. In response I positioned myself in front facing the barrel and looking the adult in the eyes sharply. "There is one more part of this script that needs to be broken. If you object shoot me." The man did not shoot me but found himself disarmed and cornered by Big One's lackeys. And luckily he was the only person in this club wielding a weapon so no further resistance was to come. +++++++++++++ The final scene As soon as we entered the hallway leading to the entrance of the visitor centre a distinct smell of garbage could be picked up. This was the final scene and a new sense of nervousness rushed down on me. The outcome this scene certainly was desirable in the movie, but not now. The floor trembled and parts of the construction platforms started to tumble down. It was obvious who was heading our way even though the script had not been followed. Big One snarled and growled letting go of my hand and seemed to ready hirself for an attack. But I moved in front of her, bowed gently and then winked. My hand landed on her nose and pushed gently. Both the Velicoraptor and the Tyrannosaurus' Rex were, as far as I knew, the only friends Tim had ever had. The final scene required blood from both. This script was either to end in disaster or be broken. "Thank you. I love you. And... I guess... goodbye." From our position Rexy was partially visible. She stood right at the convenient hole the construction teams had left for her in the visitor centre, motionless as if waiting. Both nostrils closed, then opened and blew a hot and sweet breath down our corridor. Gradually me feet got me closer to where I wanted to be. A nervousness ran down me briefly once more, until Big One's snout pushed my back with a soft snarl as if to encourage me. The Velicoraptor was handing me over to Rexy's care, stopping right at the point the bigger predator would be in striking distance. From there I travelled on alone in the direction of the giant nose pointing at me. "Greetings, Rexy. I could use a bath, but I don't think it matters." A roar and a growl greeted me back as we made eye contact. The huge predator could scoop me up at will right there, but she did not and let me approach. Keeping my eyes on hers I walked on to my target area which was her nearest foot. At the last moment she could squash like a mouse under her talons, but she did not. I settled among her toes, making no secret of my location even if her eyes were poor, willingly and knowingly. Once I settled down Rexy made her move and closed her giant nose in on me. The protruding teeth closed in being part of this package while her eyes did not show aggression. I slowed my breath to stay calm in this moment. "You always seem to smile. None of the monsters ever did, not genuinely." Beneath me the giant foot started lifting helping to close the distance. The stench of rotting garbage became ever stronger by each moment until at last the jaws would open and Rexy's tongue ran out, not being so dumb she would bite her own foot. For a brief moment I could still see her eyes and smiled back even though she could not see this. Her long wet and slimy tongue first touched my feet before running across her own feet and slithering around my back. Only her open mouth with both intact rows of sharp teeth were visible in my sight. The back of her throat was illuminated by sunlight revealing only a dark abyss. My feet touched the flesh within the teeth, avoiding cuts towards their destination. My frail body followed within a moment and fell onto her tongue. Then the jaws closed and sealed me into the heated darkness of my big friend. +++++++++++++ The end... Or to be continued...
