The failures of a single enclave technician caused one of the outer perimeter security systems to go unchecked. This unchecked system would end up leading to the destruction of most of the outpost from supermutant attack. A lone surviving scientist, unsure of what he should do tried to get radio contact up for a few weeks before giving up on that endeavour.

He was sure leaving the outpost and trying to find his way back would most likely lead to his death so instead he salvaged what he could and attempted to reinforce the base for his own safety.

He was sure after enough time the enclave would send help, though what started as a few weeks turned into a few years and eventually the lonely scientist began to grow mad, testing with genetics of creatures he found, sometimes seeing giant wasps he assumed must be in his mind and eventually something snapped within his mind.

Using his crazed and lonely mental state he ended up capturing and experimenting on many different creatures until he stumbled across notes within the outpost about experiments to make deathclaws more mentally adept and sentient.
