Sure he went through surgeries before, he had to endure many of them after his serious injury but they were all on his gut, this time they had to operate on his heart. Ion had never had is heart operated on, except for when he went into cardiac arrest during his first surgery, the life saving one Meeka had to perform on him soon after the blade had pierced his body and took his left arm from him. But this is what this surgery was really about, regaining what he lost that day, getting back his left arm. To power this new mechanical arm required a device to be grafted to the patient's heart, having it implanted directly into the circulatory system so that blood could be pumped through it like a waterwheel to generate electricity. The patient's nerves would then be connected to the mechanical graft and when the brain would send a small amount of natural electricity through as to move a limb, the device would send extra current into the mechanical limb connected to said nerve to fully power the movement. \n\nSince Ion experienced cardiac failure, she was worried about the health of his heart and initially said no to Ion's request to an arm graft as it would put unwanted continuous stress on his heart. But after Ion started ramping up his training after a year to fully recover from his injuries, he started to get tired easily at doing the basic things. Further tests would reveal that Ion's heart did receive permanent damage to the left side that had gone undetected before he started back to his advance training. The damage caused Ion to have irregular heart beat and he was told in order to continue his Hunting profession, he would need to have a pacemaker placed on his heart to get it beating properly again. \n\nMeeka know now that Ion needed heart surgery anyways and the fact that Ion was determined to back to Hunting, even with only one arm, she felt it would be safer for him to have use of two hands in the field to prevent further serious injuries, as long as the device could also act as a pacemaker for Ion, she would be ok with grafting it into his circulatory system as she would just need to keep a closer eye on his heart condition moving forward and perform the appropriate medical treatment if needed. Meeka's brother Matias, who was the engineer for Ion's new arm, said it was possible to reconfigure the powering device into a pacemaker as well and Ion's surgery was scheduled. The news made Ion extremely happy but also extremely nervous as he knew he had to endure open heart surgery to get what he wanted. \n\nAnd this brought him back to where he was now, feeling more nervous than he had ever been in his life as he was being wheeled down the hallway to the operating room. Again he kept telling himself that he has been through surgeries before and never had felt this way, even one already on his heart though he was unconscious that time and didn't now about it until after he awoke from the haze, he did have the scar to prove it. Or maybe it was the fact that since his nerves were also involved in this procedure, that they could not fully put him to sleep and he would be awake as his chest is carved open and his heart was worked on. Ion didn't have too much more time to think on it, as he arrived in the operating room where he was greeted by Meeka who would be the lead surgeon, who would work on his heart and Matias would would perform the arm graft under Meeka's medical supervision. Ion was lifted up onto the operating table, a different one than he was use to, as it had extended side pads that is one arm was strapped to. Meeka and Matias got to work prepping Ion, attaching the nodes for the ECG, inserting his IV for the anesthetic and placing an oxygen mask on him, thinking that it would be more comfortable for him instead of a breathing tube since he would be slightly awake. \n\nOnce they were all set, Meeka placed a finger over the valve that would release the anesthetic and turned to Ion, asking him if he was ready. Ion took a couple of deep breaths and did a quick confidant nod as Meeka slid her finger down, releasing the valve. There was a warm feeling in Ion's arm before a rush of overwhelming tiredness and haze overcame him. Ion's senses were dulled, as he now had a vague idea of what was going on around him. He felt a weird sensation in his left stub as he looked over and saw Matias doing something with it, though he could start to see a bit of blood starting to ooze from it. But his attention soon switched to Meeka as he felt the pressure of something on his chest that Meeka was sliding down him. She did this over and over as Ion starting feeling the feeling of liquid running down the side of his body. It soon hit Ion that Meeka was making the incision into his chest, as he took more deep breaths knowing that his surgery has fully started. Ion just wanted to focus on his breathing, trying not to pay attention to what was going on around him, but the weird sensations were starting to get a bit much. \n\nThen suddenly Meeka spoke to him, only hearing take a deep breath but before Ion could, all the air in his lungs was quickly forced out. Ion struggled a bit, feeling like he was suffocating, he was struggling for air that never came as tears started running down the side of his face. He felt like he was going to pass out, going to die, as in the distance he could hear what sounded like a saw grinding up his chest. After the sound stopped, Ion's lungs began to quickly fill with oxygen again as he took in quick breaths, almost hyperventilating, while whining in discomfort. He then saw Meeka rush quickly over to his head as she lifted his hair up a bit to see the tears in his eyes and all he could hear her as was sorry over and over. Meeka mentioned something about having to deflate his lungs so that the sternum saw would not puncture them but Ion was having a hard time paying attention to her, with him still in a bit of shock and with the anesthetic still bringing him haze. He then suddenly felt another strange feeling when Meeka pried open his rib cage with her hands, as he could hear some of them popping as she did it. A cold metal thing was now placed over Ion's chest as Meeka played with it to make it winch Ion's chest open even larger. Ion could feel the pressure of his ribs wanting to close back against the retractor but also the sensation of something pushing against Meeka's fingers that were now deep inside his chest. \n\nMeeka was still making a few cuts with her scalpel but before long Ion could feel his heart beating and his lungs inflating/deflating in the open air as he heart was now fully exposed to the world outside his chest. This sensation was weird indeed, but also felt somewhat pleasant as it felt that a weight was lifted off him. The pleasantness soon went back to nervousness as Ion started seeing blood violently spraying out of his chest, dousing him and Meeka. She was trying to graft a tube to his aorta and during the process, pressurized blood was released though it was quickly sealed up around the tube. She did this two more times, grafting smaller tubes to both his vena cavas that condensed into a larger tube that connected to a machine off in the distance though not as much blood came squirting out. Ion was taking deep breaths again as me saw Meeka pierce a needle straight into his heart and as she pushed on the plunger, a cold feeling began flowing through him as his eyes were overcame with darkness. \n\nIon felt nothing in the void though he was only there for what seamed like an instant before he could start seeing the bright lights of the operating room again filling his eyes. He could no longer feel his heart beating against the open air though he could still feel blood flowing through his body. It then hit him that his heart was stopped and he was on a heart and lung bypass machine. Feeling a little adventurous, Ion decided to hold his breath to see if he would not fell like he was suffocating and to his astonishment, his body continued to function normally though he did feel a bit weird feeling in his chest. Ion was not really paying attention to anything as he was having fun with his little experiment that it caused him a bit of surprise when Meeka tapped on his oxygen mask and angrily told him to focus on his breathing. Ion did what he was told as he felt Meeka sever a large artery in his chest, as he felt some blood leak onto his lungs. \n\nHe then saw Meeka hold the device, the one that would power his arm in her hand as she started grafting the tubes connected to it to each end of the severed artery. Not long after he felt Meeka pierce something into his stilled heart, which Ion figured was the pacemaker prong. As Ion was so focused on what was going on inside his chest, he didn't even realize that Matias had fully cut open his stump, revealing his muscles, nerves and the remnants of his arm bone. It only really occurred what was going on over there when he felt Matias sliding stuff into his exposed stub, though he was struggling to get it in fully. After talking with Meeka, Ion saw Matias take the scalpel and open up his shoulder wound. At this point Ion could feel Matias easy feeding wires through his body, giving him an eerie feeling as they were being pulled out of his chest and attached to the device. As more and more wired where being fed through his body, Ion's eyes closed and he fell into a light sleep. \n\nHe was then suddenly awoken by small sharp pains in his stump as Matias was grafting more wires to his nerves and Meeka was fiddling around in his chest, making room for the powering device in a space behind his heart. Meeka's hands inside of him gave Ion all sorts of weird feelings, though he thought it wasn't all that unpleasant. When she removed her hands from inside is chest, Ion vaguely saw her walk over to a table and grab two small circle looking paddles that had lond thick wires attacked to them. Ion heard Meeka say to him to take deep breaths as he suddenly felt the two paddles squeezing against his heart. Ion then felt jolts running through his body, though with him being a lightning adept, he found it quite soothing and relaxing. He could feel his heart starting to beat slowly against the paddles as Meeka squeezed harder and stronger jolts started pulsing through his body. Then Meeka suddenly released the pressure against his heart and Ion could once again fell his heart freely pounding against the air outside his chest. After about a minute of this feeling coming coming back, Ion felt Meeka sliding the paddles out of his chest and saw her walking back to the table putting them back, now covered in blood. \n\nMeeka then walked back over to him and Ion felt her sliding out the grafted tubes out of arteries and veins, stitching them up as she went. After she was done, Meeka walked over by Ion's head, placed a hand on his shoulder and started watching Matias continue his work on Ion's stump. Ion though was still enjoying the feeling of his heart beating in the open air and not paying attention to what was going on around him. Ion then got the desire to want to feel his beating heart in his own hand, after all it was the thing that gave him life and he would not really have another opportunity like this. He tried to lift his right arm though the anesthetic prevented him from doing so. Ion then tried to get Meeka's attention by making random noises and when she look his way, Ion could barely muster out the words, Hand... Heart... Feel... Please... Meeka looked at him awkwardly as now he was breathing heavily from trying to speak but she must of understood him as she lifted his right arm and placed his hand on his beating heart. Ion was overjoyed at the fact he could now feel his heart pulsating against the palm of his hand, while feeling his lungs inflate and deflate against his arm as well. It strangely put a smile on his face that Meeka had not scene since Ion had his injury over a year ago, all Ion could hear from her was soft laughing at Ion's enjoyment of feeling his own heart, but she understood the desire to feel something inside of you, she was a surgeon after all.\n\nTime passed by as Ion was just enjoying himself there with his hand on his beating heart that he could no longer peel the sharp pains in his stump from Matias' wire grafting and Ion slowly closed his eyes and drifted off into another light sleep, with a full smile on his face. Darkness filled Ion's eyes but it didn't seam too long before he awoke a bit latter with his hand now back on the table side extinction, but he could still feel some blood on his fingers. Ion then suddenly felt sharp pressure on his chest with a loud click as Meeka was stapling up his chest incision. Ion then noticed a heaviness on his left side as his new mechanical arm was now attached to him, though try as he might, he could not move it. After finishing stapling up Ion's chest incision, Meeka smiled at Ion and he smiled back before she changed the anesthetic bag on the IV and sleepiness started overcoming Ion, even though all he wanted to do now was try to move his new arm and try all he might, his willpower wasn't enough to overcome the effects of the anesthetic and his eyes went back into darkness as he fell into a deep sleep. Ion was more nervous than he had ever been. Sure he went through surgeries before, he had to endure many of them after his serious injury but they were all on his gut, this time they had to operate on his heart. Ion had never had is heart operated on, except for when he went into cardiac arrest during his first surgery, the life saving one Meeka had to perform on him soon after the blade had pierced his body and took his left arm from him. But this is what this surgery was really about, regaining what he lost that day, getting back his left arm. To power this new mechanical arm required a device to be grafted to the patient's heart, having it implanted directly into the circulatory system so that blood could be pumped through it like a waterwheel to generate electricity. The patient's nerves would then be connected to the mechanical graft and when the brain would send a small amount of natural electricity through as to move a limb, the device would send extra current into the mechanical limb connected to said nerve to fully power the movement.
Since Ion experienced cardiac failure, she was worried about the health of his heart and initially said no to Ion's request to an arm graft as it would put unwanted continuous stress on his heart. But after Ion started ramping up his training after a year to fully recover from his injuries, he started to get tired easily at doing the basic things. Further tests would reveal that Ion's heart did receive permanent damage to the left side that had gone undetected before he started back to his advance training. The damage caused Ion to have irregular heart beat and he was told in order to continue his Hunting profession, he would need to have a pacemaker placed on his heart to get it beating properly again.
Meeka know now that Ion needed heart surgery anyways and the fact that Ion was determined to back to Hunting, even with only one arm, she felt it would be safer for him to have use of two hands in the field to prevent further serious injuries, as long as the device could also act as a pacemaker for Ion, she would be ok with grafting it into his circulatory system as she would just need to keep a closer eye on his heart condition moving forward and perform the appropriate medical treatment if needed. Meeka's brother Matias, who was the engineer for Ion's new arm, said it was possible to reconfigure the powering device into a pacemaker as well and Ion's surgery was scheduled. The news made Ion extremely happy but also extremely nervous as he knew he had to endure open heart surgery to get what he wanted.
And this brought him back to where he was now, feeling more nervous than he had ever been in his life as he was being wheeled down the hallway to the operating room. Again he kept telling himself that he has been through surgeries before and never had felt this way, even one already on his heart though he was unconscious that time and didn't now about it until after he awoke from the haze, he did have the scar to prove it. Or maybe it was the fact that since his nerves were also involved in this procedure, that they could not fully put him to sleep and he would be awake as his chest is carved open and his heart was worked on. Ion didn't have too much more time to think on it, as he arrived in the operating room where he was greeted by Meeka who would be the lead surgeon, who would work on his heart and Matias would would perform the arm graft under Meeka's medical supervision. Ion was lifted up onto the operating table, a different one than he was use to, as it had extended side pads that is one arm was strapped to. Meeka and Matias got to work prepping Ion, attaching the nodes for the ECG, inserting his IV for the anesthetic and placing an oxygen mask on him, thinking that it would be more comfortable for him instead of a breathing tube since he would be slightly awake.
Once they were all set, Meeka placed a finger over the valve that would release the anesthetic and turned to Ion, asking him if he was ready. Ion took a couple of deep breaths and did a quick confidant nod as Meeka slid her finger down, releasing the valve. There was a warm feeling in Ion's arm before a rush of overwhelming tiredness and haze overcame him. Ion's senses were dulled, as he now had a vague idea of what was going on around him. He felt a weird sensation in his left stub as he looked over and saw Matias doing something with it, though he could start to see a bit of blood starting to ooze from it. But his attention soon switched to Meeka as he felt the pressure of something on his chest that Meeka was sliding down him. She did this over and over as Ion starting feeling the feeling of liquid running down the side of his body. It soon hit Ion that Meeka was making the incision into his chest, as he took more deep breaths knowing that his surgery has fully started. Ion just wanted to focus on his breathing, trying not to pay attention to what was going on around him, but the weird sensations were starting to get a bit much.
Then suddenly Meeka spoke to him, only hearing take a deep breath but before Ion could, all the air in his lungs was quickly forced out. Ion struggled a bit, feeling like he was suffocating, he was struggling for air that never came as tears started running down the side of his face. He felt like he was going to pass out, going to die, as in the distance he could hear what sounded like a saw grinding up his chest. After the sound stopped, Ion's lungs began to quickly fill with oxygen again as he took in quick breaths, almost hyperventilating, while whining in discomfort. He then saw Meeka rush quickly over to his head as she lifted his hair up a bit to see the tears in his eyes and all he could hear her as was sorry over and over. Meeka mentioned something about having to deflate his lungs so that the sternum saw would not puncture them but Ion was having a hard time paying attention to her, with him still in a bit of shock and with the anesthetic still bringing him haze. He then suddenly felt another strange feeling when Meeka pried open his rib cage with her hands, as he could hear some of them popping as she did it. A cold metal thing was now placed over Ion's chest as Meeka played with it to make it winch Ion's chest open even larger. Ion could feel the pressure of his ribs wanting to close back against the retractor but also the sensation of something pushing against Meeka's fingers that were now deep inside his chest.
Meeka was still making a few cuts with her scalpel but before long Ion could feel his heart beating and his lungs inflating/deflating in the open air as he heart was now fully exposed to the world outside his chest. This sensation was weird indeed, but also felt somewhat pleasant as it felt that a weight was lifted off him. The pleasantness soon went back to nervousness as Ion started seeing blood violently spraying out of his chest, dousing him and Meeka. She was trying to graft a tube to his aorta and during the process, pressurized blood was released though it was quickly sealed up around the tube. She did this two more times, grafting smaller tubes to both his vena cavas that condensed into a larger tube that connected to a machine off in the distance though not as much blood came squirting out. Ion was taking deep breaths again as me saw Meeka pierce a needle straight into his heart and as she pushed on the plunger, a cold feeling began flowing through him as his eyes were overcame with darkness.
Ion felt nothing in the void though he was only there for what seamed like an instant before he could start seeing the bright lights of the operating room again filling his eyes. He could no longer feel his heart beating against the open air though he could still feel blood flowing through his body. It then hit him that his heart was stopped and he was on a heart and lung bypass machine. Feeling a little adventurous, Ion decided to hold his breath to see if he would not fell like he was suffocating and to his astonishment, his body continued to function normally though he did feel a bit weird feeling in his chest. Ion was not really paying attention to anything as he was having fun with his little experiment that it caused him a bit of surprise when Meeka tapped on his oxygen mask and angrily told him to focus on his breathing. Ion did what he was told as he felt Meeka sever a large artery in his chest, as he felt some blood leak onto his lungs.
He then saw Meeka hold the device, the one that would power his arm in her hand as she started grafting the tubes connected to it to each end of the severed artery. Not long after he felt Meeka pierce something into his stilled heart, which Ion figured was the pacemaker prong. As Ion was so focused on what was going on inside his chest, he didn't even realize that Matias had fully cut open his stump, revealing his muscles, nerves and the remnants of his arm bone. It only really occurred what was going on over there when he felt Matias sliding stuff into his exposed stub, though he was struggling to get it in fully. After talking with Meeka, Ion saw Matias take the scalpel and open up his shoulder wound. At this point Ion could feel Matias easy feeding wires through his body, giving him an eerie feeling as they were being pulled out of his chest and attached to the device. As more and more wired where being fed through his body, Ion's eyes closed and he fell into a light sleep.
He was then suddenly awoken by small sharp pains in his stump as Matias was grafting more wires to his nerves and Meeka was fiddling around in his chest, making room for the powering device in a space behind his heart. Meeka's hands inside of him gave Ion all sorts of weird feelings, though he thought it wasn't all that unpleasant. When she removed her hands from inside is chest, Ion vaguely saw her walk over to a table and grab two small circle looking paddles that had lond thick wires attacked to them. Ion heard Meeka say to him to take deep breaths as he suddenly felt the two paddles squeezing against his heart. Ion then felt jolts running through his body, though with him being a lightning adept, he found it quite soothing and relaxing. He could feel his heart starting to beat slowly against the paddles as Meeka squeezed harder and stronger jolts started pulsing through his body. Then Meeka suddenly released the pressure against his heart and Ion could once again fell his heart freely pounding against the air outside his chest. After about a minute of this feeling coming coming back, Ion felt Meeka sliding the paddles out of his chest and saw her walking back to the table putting them back, now covered in blood.
Meeka then walked back over to him and Ion felt her sliding out the grafted tubes out of arteries and veins, stitching them up as she went. After she was done, Meeka walked over by Ion's head, placed a hand on his shoulder and started watching Matias continue his work on Ion's stump. Ion though was still enjoying the feeling of his heart beating in the open air and not paying attention to what was going on around him. Ion then got the desire to want to feel his beating heart in his own hand, after all it was the thing that gave him life and he would not really have another opportunity like this. He tried to lift his right arm though the anesthetic prevented him from doing so. Ion then tried to get Meeka's attention by making random noises and when she look his way, Ion could barely muster out the words, Hand... Heart... Feel... Please... Meeka looked at him awkwardly as now he was breathing heavily from trying to speak but she must of understood him as she lifted his right arm and placed his hand on his beating heart. Ion was overjoyed at the fact he could now feel his heart pulsating against the palm of his hand, while feeling his lungs inflate and deflate against his arm as well. It strangely put a smile on his face that Meeka had not scene since Ion had his injury over a year ago, all Ion could hear from her was soft laughing at Ion's enjoyment of feeling his own heart, but she understood the desire to feel something inside of you, she was a surgeon after all.
Time passed by as Ion was just enjoying himself there with his hand on his beating heart that he could no longer peel the sharp pains in his stump from Matias' wire grafting and Ion slowly closed his eyes and drifted off into another light sleep, with a full smile on his face. Darkness filled Ion's eyes but it didn't seam too long before he awoke a bit latter with his hand now back on the table side extinction, but he could still feel some blood on his fingers. Ion then suddenly felt sharp pressure on his chest with a loud click as Meeka was stapling up his chest incision. Ion then noticed a heaviness on his left side as his new mechanical arm was now attached to him, though try as he might, he could not move it.
