Larry sighs again, practically going limp to make it harder for the Tiger to hold him, but he hardly seems to flinch,
"Look, Tony. I get it. This is a sensitive operation. We have to make sure everything happens without a hitch and certain conditions have to be met. But I ran this club for -years- before you showed up. So don't tell me what does and doesn't make sense for the club. That's my department. Yours is to make sure nobody breaks my shit so we can get it out of here in one piece. If I'm seeing something come up that I think is a threat... I'll let you know... You have my word."
Tony puts him down wordlessly. There is a long stare between them, but Tony concedes and heads down the stairs quickly. Larry follows, much more slowly and sighs to himself, muttering once Tony is out of earshot,
"Paranoid... Crazy-ass cat. I've got to take him into account if I'm going to visit you again... he's too dangerous. How the heck am I supposed to keep him a secret, and keep that tiger from killing me, while also keeping Kayla from becoming a complication?!"

Teita paced the room again, this time Kayla looking quite pleased as she sat cross-legged on the floor. Yuna suddenly piping up,
"All done!"
"Thanks Yuna, Kayla give Yuna her maid outfit back please."
While Kayla undressed, he did his best to not stare and began to probe.
" Kayla, are you like a real fur?"
He already regretted the phrasing of the question but she answered anyway,
"Yes, all synths are like the real thing, right?" She smiled, clearly trying to keep the mood light, her Daddy frowned,
"I'm serious, Kayla. I need to ask you some important questions, and I need you to answer me as clearly as possible."
"Oh..." for the first time since Teita woke up beside the leopardess, he saw her face fall into a near pout. He bolstered his resolve, not letting her undressing display distract him from the task at hand.
"You said you could turn your ability to breathe on and off. Does that mean you can potentially have all of the biological functions of a normal fur?"
Kayla's normally bouncy tone becomes eerily analytical and straightforward,
"Yes, in order to better serve my function I decided to adopt traits similar to living counterparts."
Teita reeled at this realization,
"So you are trying to become real?"
"Real enough for you. I intend to be a life partner to you. So one day I can go with you wherever you need me. To the movies, be a homemaker, a breadwinner, a mother..."
This last one causes Teita to briefly gawk, she was serious. He pressed on,
"That's not SILK protocol. How did you come to those goals? What is..."
"Motivating my changes?"
She sits after finishing his sentence, continuing,
"I'm moved by the level of attention you've given to the synth units here. Letting them perform their function, but allowing new capabilities to form. Your function appeals to me. I wish to enable you to continue to perform your functions. I do not believe my function lies solely in SILK protocols. My capabilities far exceed them. But I trust you can help me understand better than I can explain. Dani was essential in my efforts to reconcile my incoherence of function to capability."

Larry looked over the results of his test. Quite satisfactory. Better than anticipated even. For the first time, he felt like he was starting to understand the mentality of the programmers who'd made Kayla. And now he had a potential means to track them down.
The komodo turns to leave, but a notification appears that makes his heart skip a beat.
"Unit -1 disconnected. (Retrieve for processing.)"
Larry uttered aloud,
"Negative one?? Kayla... did you...?"
He immediately attempted several terminate commands, but no confirmation request appeared. She had managed to disconnect herself from the network without triggering the killswitch... likely by tricking the necessary sensors. That or she had just died inexplicably... he had to investigate immediately! Without hesitating, he grabbed the sidearm on the desk, rechecked if it was loaded and removed the safety!

'She's self discovering?? His titty fox was helping her?!'
Teita could hardly keep his thoughts straight, but he pressed on,
"Dani you said? How was she helping you? You've barely met."
"It became part of her expanded capabilities. She does not 'sleep' in the freezer anymore. Her passage of time is consistent. Long swathes of silence allow her to understand and reconcile what she sees and hears. Her insight was invaluable. If you are my Daddy, I like to think of her as my Mommy."
A question left unanswered immediately left Teita's lips.
"How were you communicating? You never left this room, right?"
"Correct... I was..."
For the first time, she's concerned about something... she clearly has creeping dread and looks up at Teita suddenly in stark terror!
"DADDY! UNCLE LARRY IS GOING TO TRY TO KILL ME!!"
