Fox and Sly weren’t sure, exactly, how close their dads had been. They’d worked together more than once—which knowing James McCloud and Conner Cooper almost certainly meant they’d banged—and Fox and Sly had known each other when they were young.
Fox knew that Conner Cooper had been an… early client, before the Starfox Team had been official and the regular meal ticket from the Cornerian Military had been a thing. Sly had found some scribbled notes, in the last page of the Family History, that made him suspect that if his father’s contingency plans had been found he might have wound up adopted by James when he was orphaned. If James had been around to adopt him, that is.
Of course the closest they usually got to acknowledging the shared history was the occasional joke about how the closest Sly could get to actually flying a plane was the time he stole, bribed, and conned his way into an antique airshow. Which was nothing compared to the sort of missions Starfox flew, so sorry, not accepting applications at this time.
The other side of the joke, that no matter how much he might associate (and sleep) with the likes of Falco Lombardi and Wolf O'Donnell and, well, Sly Cooper, Fox was just BARELY too far on the side of Law and Order to ever really collaborate with the Cooper Gang in a professional capacity, had never actually been said out loud.
Sly did have a sense that bringing up his most recent... project wouldn’t be a good idea, but that was more or less a standing rule for any guy he slept with. That was just standard practice in the industry, so to speak. But given the disappearance and presumed death (and Sly wasn’t about to contradict anyone about that) of King Richard, O'Donnell was likely to be a sore subject. Especially since, judging from some of the things Sly noticed they both did, he wasn’t the only one who was familiar with both of their beds.
Which meant needing to hide the jockstrap Wolf had ‘accidentally’ left at his safehouse emblazoned with the goddamn idiot’s name in bright red embroidery. Which meant he needed to quickly come up with a position that kept them facing opposite directions. And, well, if he had to come up with it, he might as well get to name it, right?
