Backstory:
“...reporting.”
“You sound like you had a rough time.”
“Well, I probably need to hydrate.”
“So the mission is complete?”
“It is. Got a few more than I expected, but the new assets you wanted to be all mysterious about got the job done. Should even be able to use em on actual pirate work, assuming I ever get to do any of that again.”
“Sarcasm noted.”
“And I’m running a pirate station here, not a hotel. I hope you’ve got some other safehouse in mind for some of these guys?”
“In time, pup.”
“...”
“Now. Any intel on the captors?”
“Not the Mobians. Or Venom. Either they were independant, or somebody went to a lot of trouble making it look like they were independent.”
“Hrm. Forward any intel you have to me. I’ve got people better positioned to ferret out answers. In the meantime don’t let your guests socialize any more than is necessary. And… you have a sample of the formula?”
“As well as blueprints. Just need a plant and we can start production. I can personally attest that it works, very well. I think we’re gonna have fun with this thing.”
“Good work. Over and out.”

Commentary:
The original PSD for this one was not lost...but it was missing half of its layers. All the shading and effects were gone. I had to do those completely from scratch.
I hemmed and hawed a lot on this one during the remaster, psyching myself out about whether or not what I was doing was actually an improvement. I had to just sit down and power through it instead of sitting and wondering.
The first thing that needed fixing was Nanaki’s muzzle. I don’t know what I was thinking when I suddenly decided to try to make him more feline in this picture, all of a sudden, instead of maintaining the consistency from the last FIVE PICTURES.
I think this is the most lovingly rendered dick I’ve ever drawn, now. I referenced artists I admire, and though I’ve maligned it privately in the past, I made the shading on the dick much more detailed than the rest of the picture.
And you know what? I’m okay with that.
