The bad news is that space cops are apparently a slightly different variety of bastard than the rest of us. Real sticklers for information security, the SSPD. There’s a few kinds of case files—trafficking, illegal genetic experiments, mass public indecency—that this case touches on that are what’s called ‘OOTCO,’ for Office Of The Commision Only, which means it can only be opened, read-only, inside said office.
And yes I know you’re not supposed to put the ‘of’ or the ‘the’ in the acronym, but without them you wouldn’t be able to pronounce it “Ootco.” Which they do.
But the good news is my—well I guess by this point, far as this case is concerned, he’s just my partner—but he’s got something of a reputation, and with his assistance and not unimpressive stamina I was able to bring negotiations to a successful conclusion.
Which brings me to what you actually wanted:
“Subject 626 was last alleged to be in the custody of Dr. [REDACTED] as of May 8th 2XX3. The escape was known to have happened before June 2nd.” So that gives a little less than a month range for the actual escape happening. So that does fit the story I fed the Former Captain, which is a relief cause I’d hate for him to wind up realizing in hindsight that I bluffed him. But also it fits the timeline of the other iron you’ve got in the fire. You know. The one I’m not supposed to know about. With the designer drugs.
You’d know better than I if that’s a trail worth following. Maybe they’ve got him, maybe they just helped spring him because they wanted to screw over a rival. If there is anything there, please let me know, cause this date range rules Subject 626 out for the gang rape case, so unless you can give me some other lead to write on my expense reports I’m gonna need to come up with something else to justify digging up more dirt and keeping this new partner around. I know I was prickly about working with him but he’s turned out real useful.
