  "writing": "Opus, The Wonder Dog\n\n* * *\n\nLadies and gentlemen,\nIf I may, if I may,\nIf I may have your attention,\nunequivocally, unanimously\nfor but a moment.\nI am afraid to say it, but\nthe rumors are terribly true.\n\nOpus, the Wonder Dog, is gone.\n\nAs you may have already heard,\nhe departed not long ago, \nand it was not two hours hence,\nwhen his trusty companions had found,\nthat he finally slipped away,\nfor greater things to chase.\n\nNow I implore you, I beseech you, be still!\n\nIn anticipation of the great number of questions\nwhich the world will surely present,\nour dear Opus has elected to give us\na final prepared statement,\nwhich reads as follows,\nand I quote:\n\nARF\n\nBARK\n\nWOOF\n\nwas what my ancestors once told you,\nwhen they first approached your fire-lit villages,\nlong, long ago, when the world's corners were as yet unknown,\nand the creeping shadows threatened to pounce,\nbut perhaps what they had meant to say,\nif their noble tongues could but form the words, was\n\nLet's be friends.\n\nIt's a difficult world, and no dog is an island,\nso my creators had told me from the beginning\nwhen the grant funds were running low, and I needed to\nsit up,\nbeg,\nperform,\nand amaze their benefactors so that they, and I, might continue to exist.\n\nNo dog is an island, and in this condition was I raised by Allure,\nblessed manufacturer of Sprinklehead Jetboot Detergent,\nOnce-A-Day Toothfizz,\nWarpstop Travel Stabilizers,\nand Golgotha C-Class Interplanetary Warboats.\n\nARF\n\nBARK\n\nWOOF\n\nwas what my ancestors once told you,\nwhen they first gathered by your side in the evening,\nnow sitting on the other side of the fire as your privileged protectors,\nas they watched and smelled you cook for the benefit of your kind,\nbut perhaps what they meant to say was\n\nI'm hungry.\n\nNot only for meat or kibble,\nbut for life and all the wisdom\nthat can be chased out of its infinite holes.\n\nI'm hungry.\n\nAnd my hunger knows no bounds. \nI cannot be sated with the mere watching of life.\nI need to chase it!\nTo chase, perchance to learn, \nperchance to be born anew in the knowledge that runs so deep\nin the cold, wet rivers of life.\n\nYes, I'm hungry.
