"writing": "A Way Out: Chapter 6\n\nSonic's POV\n\nShadow just watched me. A look of utter shock was displayed on his face. He was trying to comprehend what he had just heard.\nThe two names that had always been on his mind, silently wondering how they were doing and if they would ever wonder who there mother was and why they were abandoned. Hearing those two names being spoken by me had caused him pain, a small sense of happiness at the sound and shock.\n\"How... How did you...\" He answered when he finally got himself to speak.\n\"Carthoff. You dropped the hint that Silver wasn't your first child. And so, shortly after our son was born, I asked Carthoff what she knew. She told me that you had two other kids who you had seperated with. A couple of days ago I paid her a visit and asked her for any information she could tell me. And she told me the names of the kids.\" I explained.\nShadow turned away from me, not knowing how to react. And so I continued.\n\"She also gave me an address.\" I added.\n\"And what are you planning on doing with it?\" He asked, a slight hopeful tone was clear in his voice. He was hoping I would do something with it, but he was also too scared to be dissapointed. I could just see how much he wanted to burst and get that address out of me. He wanted it.\n\"Someone as intelligent as you should figure that out, Shadow.\" I said as I turned my attention back to our son, chuckling as the pup tried to snuggle further into my chest.\nShadow turned back to me. A suddenly nervous and shy behaviour had taken him over as he wanted to ask me an important question.\n\"When this whole thing with Scourge blows over... Can I... Can I take them home with me?\" He asked with a glint of hope in his eyes and voice.\n\"I mean, that is what you're trying to say, right? That I am free to take them back with me and raise them?\" He added, questioning my intentions of telling him all of this.\nI smiled at him and nodded.\nBefore I even knew it, the widest smile I had ever seen grew on his muzzle at the thought of being the mother to his first two children. His hands were suddenly on my cheeks as he pulled me in for a deep kiss.\n\"I can't believe it! I can't believe it! I'm going to see Ebony and Mephiles again! Oh, thank you so much! I can't believe this!\" He stated over and over again in disbelieve and joy. But a thought made him pull away from me and whisked that joy away.\n\"But, Sonic, are you really okay with this? They're not your kids, after all.\" Shadow said. He could understand that it must be difficult for me to make this decision since Ebony and Mephiles weren't mine.\nI had an answer for him ready. I have already been thinking about it, way before that visit with Carthoff.\nNormally I was scratching the back of my head as a habit, but I quickly remembered that I was carrying our infant in my arms.\n\"Well, of course, it is a bit difficult for me because they're biologically not mine. But it's practically the same as taking care of your stepchildren, right? And besides, their both still very young. Who knows, I can have a wonderful relationship with him.\" I said, trying to convince myself more than I was trying to convince Shadow.\nShadow's shoulders hung a little.\n\"Listen, I understand if you don't want to do this. Their fathers are strangers, after all.\" Shadow took a slight pause. The fact that both the fathers of his two eldest were complete strangers who practically paid him to get raped hurt him immensly, but it was ashaming aswell.\nEspecially for someone of his origin, someone who came from a prestigious family and was supposed to have a high status in his future. People like him weren't exactly supposed to be reduced to a prostitute who unwillingly spread his legs for anyone who threw money at him simply because he believed that he had no other choice.\n\"No, no, I do want them here. This is practically the same as taking in my stepchildren.\" I explained, but Shadow didn't seem convinced. His shoulders hung even more.\n\"I know that you want to do me good, but these kids deserve the chance to be with their mother. And I know that you love the two of them just as much as you love Silver and want nothing more than to have them here with you.\" I took a brief pause.\n\"When I first got the hint that Silver wasn't your first, I thought it was only natural I'd take all the kids in if I really wanted their mother so badly. I'm not prepared for it, but hell, a new parent is never prepared. So as soon as Scourge is behind bars, you will get your ass to that orphanage and bring those kids back with you. You got that?\" I asked and Shadow nodded eagerly. He couldn't wait to take Ebony and Mephiles home with him.\n\"And besides, we're both still young. Who knows, maybe next year you'll have another kid and I am one-hundred percent sure that it will be mine, because I'm going to make sure of that.\" I teased as I gave him a small wink. Shadow blushed lightly out of embarrassment as he looked away.\nHe didn't really know what to think about getting pregnant so soon again, even if it was just meant as a tease. One part of him wanted nothing more as he had gotten used to the comforting movement inside his womb, but another part of him wanted to keep it with the three he already had.\n\nThe rest of the day seemed to fly by. I spend most of my time looking after Silver while Shadow was busy in the bakery. I had alot of catching up to do with my son and now that I was living here aswell, I had more than enough time to do so.\nBut when the bakery closed up for the day, I had to hand him back over to the mother. After a whole day of standing behind the counter while hearing his infant in the background would get me longing to spend some time with him aswell.\nMom, dad, Shadow and I decided to watch a couple of movies after we had finished our dinner and took care of the dishes. Nothing scary, though. Or loud since it would only serve to wake Silver up. Not that he was a light sleeper. From what his mother has told me, the kid was a pretty deep sleeper.\nOur family fun didn't last for long, though.\nIn the middle of the movie, Shadow just suddenly shot up from the couch and left to go to his bedroom. He told us goodnight, which mom and dad returned before paying attention to the movie again. I wondered what made him leave us so sudden when he seemed so into the movie. So I decided to get up and follow him.\nOnce I stood in the doorway, I watched Shadow check up on Silver before moving to dress into something more comfortable to sleep in.\nI wanted to walk in and tell him goodnight, but something made me change my mind. Instead I closed and locked the door before wrapping my arms around his waist as I pulled him against my chest.\n\"S-Sonic?\" Shadow asked, startled as he had not expected me to grab him like that out of nowhere.\n\"You surprised me. Don't do that.\" He said once he got over the initial shock and placed his hands on my arms.\n\"I won't.\" I muttered with a low tone as my arms pressed him closer against me. My lips placed a soft kiss on his shoulder.\n\"You suddenly got affectionate, shouldn't you be watched a movie?\" Shadow asked, he felt a bit nervous when one of my hands traveled downward to rest on one side of his hips.\n\"Shouldn't you be watching aswell?\" I retorted as I placed another kiss, but this time on the side of his throat.\n\"N-No, I got tired and wanted to get some sleep. Silver is very demanding at night.\" He answered as he softly got himself free from my grip and started to undress himself, wanting to dress into something more comfortable to sleep in.\nBut I didn't let him continue once his clothes were all removed.\n\"Shadow.\" I muttered his name as the said hedgehog wanted to grab something to wear. He paused and looked at me, only to have my lips pressed against his. My hands settling on his lower back as I pulled him closer again.\nShadow moaned lightly in surprise as he immediatly kissed back, wrapping his arms around my neck as he tried to pull me closer and deepen the kiss.\nMy hands moved from his lower back and came to rest on his butt, squeezing it lightly. He shivered lightly under my touch. He had always been more on the sensitive side. That was something I had noticed during the first month he stayed with me, when I had gotten him pregnant with Silver.\n\"It's better if you lie down.\" I told him after I pulled away from the kiss to take a breather.\nShadow pulled away from our hold and did as he was told, lying down on the mattress with his legs seperated a little as if he tried to invite me in. I didn't follow yet, though. First, I quickly got rid of my clothes before lying down on top of him, his legs and arms wrapping around me as he was the one to kiss me this time.\nShadow had always shown some resistance to my affection and during sex. But today was different. I wasn't doing this because I had paid him and he wasn't doing this because he was forcibly prostituting himself for Scourge's greed. For once, we both wanted this instead of just me.\nI wonder how Shadow must feel. This would be the first time he was to be taken with his consent. He was probably nervous, wondering if it would feel different now that it was consensual.\nShadow moaned lightly into the kiss when my tongue asked for entrance. But instead of granting it, he broke away from me and panted. I didn't leave it at that, though. My lips went down to carress the side of throat and his shoulder while my hands took the privilege to explore his body.\nI heard him gasp when I moved myself to lie more comfortably on him and my growing erection unintentionally rubbed against his clitoris.\n\"S-Sonic... I need to warn you... I'm... Ah...\" Shadow was caught off by a sudden moan mixed with a surprised yelp when I moved one of my hands down to his lower lips and spread them apart.\n\"Just enjoy it. This is the first time you actually want this aswell, right?\" I asked and watched him nod.\n\"Than stop worrying and just enjoy this. You've always tried your best to pleasure your clients, now it's my turn to make you feel good.\" I stated before pushing two of my fingers inside.\n\"But-\" Shadow was about to contradict me with something, but was cut short again by the sensation of my fingers entering him. Both of us knew that he didn't need to be prepared, but that didn't mean that a bit of foreplay was out of the question.\nShadow was thinking the same thing as he reached down between our bodies and wrapped his hand around my shaft. He wanted to help me to my climax aswell. Not that it made much of a difference. I really wanted to do this and my member had quickly grown hard to prove it. His hand might try all it got to pleasure me, but I felt like I could only be pleased with his inner walls wrapped around me.\nAnd when my fingers felt around, making him moan with every stroke, I knew that he wanted this just as much as I did. He was already so moist in there. So I quickly pulled my fingers out and positioned my member.\n\"You ready?\" I asked with my tip prodding against his entrance.\n\"Yes, but... Sonic, don't you think we should use protection?\" He asked, but I disagreed.\n\"No, it's not going to hurt either of us to do it this once without protection. And besides, I don't have any.\" I answered before I thrusted the tip in.\nI groaned as I pushed my hard manhood inside. Giving birth was said to ruin a person's gender, but that wasn't the case here. Even though, Shadow had already given birth three times in a row, he was still a bit tight. His body had gotten used to this, after all, and recovered quickly.\nHe still had alot to offer. To me, that is. I wasn't going to let anyone else use him like this again. If there was someone he was going to give himself to, it would be to me and no one else.\n\"Sonic, You have to listen to me... I'm...\" Shadow tried to warn me for something, but I cut him off by kissing him and preventing him for continuing. I wasn't in the right state of mind to listen, I was far too preoccupied with pleasing us both. And Shadow was quickly losing interest in trying to warn me.\nHe moaned into the kiss as he seperated his legs a little further apart, trying to provide me all the space I needed as I pulled my member out until only the tip remained in before thrusting it back in. Shadow wasn't new to this, so I didn't exactly need to hold back. Although, I did notice that he liked it much more if I did him gently. It must be a nice change from what he is used to getting on a daily basis more than once.\nI pulled away from the kiss as I needed to take a breath. Shadow took the chance at oxygen to speak.\n\"Sonic, we need to be quiet. Otherwise Silver will wake up again. And let's not forget about your parents.\" Shadow whispered over to me, suddenly trying to be as quiet as he possibly could for our sleeping son's sake.\n\"Don't worry.\" I reassured him as I thrusted inside him again, making him moan softly.\n\"Sonikku.\" He softly called my name as his arms wrapped around my neck to keep me close, placing brief kisses on my forehead, lips and chin as I gently continued to push my member in his entrance.\nShadow placed a hand over his mouth to muffle his quiet moans as he could hear footsteps in the hallway. He was being careful. Probably because my dad had told him that, whenever my girlfriend or boyfriend at that time were going at it, they were always able to hear us because of the thin walls. Knowing that fact must be the reason why he was trying to stay as silent as possible.\nIt made me chuckle lightly.\nShadow glared lightly at me for chuckling, but that quickly came to an end when I thrusted hard inside for once, making him yelp in surprise instead.\n\"You have to be quick, I don't want Silver to see this.\" He said.\nI didn't respond to his words. Shadow was smart enough to know that Silver wasn't able to understand what was going on yet. He was just being a paranoid parent. But, to calm him at least a little bit, I fastened my pace a little anyway.\nA soft moan, pant and gasp left him each time my tip touched his cervix. He was definitely enjoying being treated gently for once. And the fact that it was me, someone he actually liked alot, multiplied that feeling. A light, happy blush was even tainting his cheeks as this felt good for once.\n\"Ah... Sonikku...\" He whispered as his body rocked along with mine everytime our hips met. His fingers clung onto my fur as I thrusted. We weren't doing it rough, but pleasure was still growing for both of us. This was how making love really felt like. Gentle and full of love for eachother.\nOur eyes were closed as we panted and moaned silently. His inner walls were clenching around my manhood. We were both getting close to our orgasm. I could feel it from the pressure that was building up inside me and the way Shadow held me so close to himself, preventing me from getting away.\n\"I'm getting... close.\" I groaned as I thrusted a bit faster in him.\n\"Inside... Please, do it inside...\" Shadow requested through his pants, feeling his own climax coming aswell.\n\"I will.\" I muttered as I wasn't planning on cumming anywhere else besides inside of him. Both of us were close.\nIt only took another thrust or two before Shadow's orgasm hit him. The clenching of his organ send mine over the edge aswell as I thrusted as deeply as I could inside him, making sure that my semen would definitely get in his womb. Shadow held onto me to keep me from getting away.\n\"I love you.\" He muttered as he placed brief kisses on my chin and jaw.\n\"I love you too.\" I responded to his confession as I smiled, one of my hands running through his top quills.\nA thought hit me, making me chuckle nervously as I had just realised something about the reason why my lover asked me for protection. But I decided to let it rest for now and instead snuggled my muzzle into the crook of his neck and enjoyed the aftermath of our love making.\n\nThe next day, Shadow seemed nervous as the five of us were sitting at the table, Silver occupying a tall stool specifically for infants. Every moment he expected mom or at least dad to speak up about what had occured yesterday.\nI wasn't so troubled by it. In the past, my parents hadn't exactly said anything about it either. And we were pretty silent yesterday, I doubted that they noticed anything at all. And if they did, I'm sure they wouldn't mention it. That is, until my old man found the right moment to tease me about it.\n\"Shadow, are you okay, honey? You look nervous.\" Mom said, stating the obvious.\n\"I'm sure it's nothing. It's something between the two of us.\" I calmly answered, knowing that my mom would quickly drop it.\nAnd she did.\nShadow didn't seem the least bit satisfied by that, though. Maybe there was something else that was bothering him. And I had a feeling it had something to do with last night. Something about what I had realised.\nDespite being so nervous, he wasn't acting so weird anymore like yesterday. Keeping distance from anyone in this house besides Silver and being so jealous when Mrs. Rose was talking about how much she wanted her daughter to be together with me instead of him.\nAccording to my parents, he had been acting this way for a few days now. And that strange behaviour was gone today. That seemed all too coincidental.\n\"Shadow, do you mind opening the shop up?\" My dad asked with a yawn. Even though he had been helping mom in the bakery for years now, he still didn't get used to the early hours.\n\"Sure.\" The said hedgehog answered as he stood up to put his bowl and spoon in the kitchen. His breakfast was already finished, so he decided to do as he was asked.\nI watched him go until he wasn't in sight anymore before anyone decided to speak.\n\"Sweetie, now that you're here, you might aswell help with the bakery.\" Mom suggested, but I had to decline.\n\"No. I'm sorry, but I can't. I have other plans today. Once I finish those, I can still come back and help, though.\" I said as I got up from my seat aswell.\n\"Fine. Give them hell out there, kid!\" Dad stated as if it was my first day of school all over again. It was a statement that he used to encourage me. Why he used it just now? I don't think even he knew.\nI gave them a quick goodbye before I left the kitchen and made my way into the bakery to place a quick kiss on my hedgehog's lips before moving to leave.\n\"Sonic!\" Shadow called my name before I left.\n\"Huh? What?\" I asked him what was wrong as I turned back towards him.\n\"About last night... Do you think that I'm.... I mean, after last night, we could be... Nevermind, where are you going?\" He asked instead, changing the subject as he suddenly didn't want to talk about it anymore.\nI knew what he meant. So I smiled at him as I approached.\n\"Shadow, only time will tell, right? And to answer your question, I'm going out to do some important bussiness.\" I told him before pulling him in for a comforting hug. Shadow accepted it gratefully and let his head rest on my chest.\n\"Thank you. You do too much for me.\" He said as he pulled away from our brief, but comforting, embrace.\n\"What can I say, love makes you do strange things.\" I answered as I looked back down at him.\n\"Now I need to get going. But I'll be back later to help around in the bakery. I'll see you later.\" I said. Shadow gave me a quick peck on my cheek before I left and started what I had been planning for today.\n\nIt took me so long to find her that it was already close to noon by the time I had decided to go home. But as I turned to walk back to my parents' house, it looked like luck was on my side when I walked past a certain coffeeshop.\nI remembered that Shadow once told me that his parents often came here during their lunch break. Alot could've changed these past three years, but there was still a chance I could find my targets here. Or atleast one of them.\nAnd when I walked in through the front door, I knew that I was right.\nAlmost immediatly I noticed Lexi sitting at a table, drinking her coffee while also intently watching the screen of her laptop as if she was in a trance.\nFinding her had proven to be surprisingly difficult despite the fact that she was pretty well-known. People like her usually tend to stand out like a sore thumb, but not her.\nI approached her table as I thought about what I should say.\n\"Excuse me, mind if I sit here?\" I asked.\nLexi didn't answer. She seemed so into her work that she barely even noticed me standing there. After spending the whole morning searching for her, I wasn't exactly the most patient person around, so I just pulled the chair back and sat down.\nEven as I just sat down on the chair, Lexi didn't move an inch. Her eyes just kept concentrating on the screen as her fingers swiftly moved over the keyboard.\nDid she not notice me?\n\"Is there a reason why you took that particular chair when there are other tables currently unoccupied.\" After a while of silence, she had finally decided to speak. Apparently she had noticed that I took this seat, but hoped I would move to another table if she concentrated on her work instead of wasting time starting a conversation with me.\n\"I don't know, are you Lexi Robotnik?\" I asked. I needed to know if I had the right business woman sitting in front of me before saying anything else.\nLexi closed her laptop and let her eyes meet mine. She waited for me to speak.\n\"So you are. Where's your husband, Black Doom? Isn't he supposed to be here too? I thought the two of you always took your lunch breaks here together.\" I stated as I had easily noticed her husband's absence.\n\"We used to, but not lately. Why the interest in my husband?\" Lexi asked.\nShe was a bit annoyed with me disturbing her work. It was obvious that she had been sleeping bad lately too. I wonder if it was because of work or because they kicked a certain hedgehog out of their house when he needed them the most.\n\"Because I had prefered him to be here for this talk.\" I said honestly.\n\"Talk?\" She repeated, wanting me to continue explaining and give her more information about my intention of being here.\n\"Yes, talk. It's important.\" I simply told her.\n\"Well, too bad. My husband can't be here. His lunchbreak is already over. And if he was still on his break, he would still be in his office.\" She said as she leant back against the chair.\nWell, that is dissapointing. I had hoped both my lover's parents would've both been present for this particular conversation.\nI leant with my elbows on the table.\n\"What is it that you want to talk about?\" Lexi asked.\n\"Shadow.\"\nLexi looked down while she removed her reading glasses from her muzzle and placed it on the table next to her laptop.\n\"There is nothing to talk about.\" She stated, clearly not wanting to talk about her one and only son who suddenly didn't belong in their lives anymore.\nYeah, to say that I was a little bit ticked off would be an understatement.\nShadow was only nineteen years old. Intelligent or not, how was he supposed to get out of that predicament on his own? Especially when he was pregnant of some pervert who didn't know right from wrong? It was clear that Shadow had tried to get out of it without help to avoid having anybody else find out.\nHe was still young, but his parents were older, wiser and were supposed to help him instead of turning their backs on them. If they were there for him, Shadow would've had an escape and it would've never had come as far as this.\nEven though, he seems much happier than when I first reunited with him in that bar, it was clear that it was all pretence, a mask he put up in order to take care of Silver like a mother should. He didn't want to give himself the time he desperatly needed to heal for a good mental health. Instead he pushed it all aside, thinking it would be the best for our son.\n\"Yes, there is! After finding out what he had been doing and pregnant to top it all off, why did both of you abandon him?\" I practically hissed, not wasting anymore time in taking it easy with her. There was no easy way to talk about this subject, after all.\n\"What? How... How do you know so much?\" Lexi asked in shock. Never in these three years had anyone ever suspected what happened to their son ever since he just seemed to have vanished in thin air.\n\"How do I know? I just so happen to have him living with m-\" I said, but I wasn't nearly done talking. Lexi stopped me as she suddenly shifted to the front of her seat and grabbed the sleeves of my jacket.\n\"What?! Shadow is living with you?! He's okay?! Please, tell me he's okay!\" She begged me, her eyes watering from tears she had kept within herself for a long time.\nIt was official now. My father's suspicion was confirmed. His parents did want him back. Or at least his mother did.\n\"Well, I wouldn't exactly say 'okay', but he's trying to keep his head above water.\" I answered, hoping that could calm her down a little.\nIt didn't sooth her, but she did calm down. Her hands let go of me as she allowed herself to sink back into the chair, letting her stiff posture go for now.\n\"Did he tell you that we had forsaken him?\" She asked and I nodded.\n\"After I had convinced him that I would help him, yes. Telling someone about it all seemed to relief him.\" I told her.\nLexi sighed.\nShe never wanted to abandon him, but by yelling at him when he was in a very emotional state after his father practically disowned him, she did come across much worse than she wanted to.\nIf Shadow had been a little more emotionally stable at the time, he would've been able to give his parents some time to come to terms with the news of their son being a prostitute and being knocked up. It could've saved him alot of trouble.\nBe it early pregnancy hormones, the impact of really bad events or maybe even both, either way, mental fragility can be something scary.\nI watched Lexi for a few moments. She looked like she wanted to talk about it, but didn't know what to say. So I decided to take the initiative.\n\"If you're wondering if Shadow is angry, he's not. Actually when I suggested the idea that you might want him back, he was practically jumping at the chance of trying it out. But I think it's going to take a while before he goes for it. So just stay patient for a little while longer, okay? And tell Doom that he should prepare himself aswell. Shadow might come with quite a surprise, after all.\" I told her and this time Lexi nodded, showing me that she understood.\n\"But there is one problem. I don't think Black Doom will listen to me.\" She said.\n\"What? Why not?\" I asked. You would think that, being his wife, Doom would listen to her.\n\"We've been having some trouble in our marriage.\" Lexi admitted. She almost seemed a bit embarrassed to tell me about the problems the two of them were dealing with in their relationship.\n\"Does it have to do with Shadow?\" I asked as it seemed like a logical explanation to me.\nLexi nodded as she looked down at her hands.\n\"Alot of insults were thrown after we had scared Shadow away. I blamed my husband for pushing our son too much, for expecting to much from him. While he blamed me for being too soft, for allowing too much. In the end we stopped talking to eachother and just ignored eachother to prevent anymore hard words from fall. Years of love and affection were gone, vanished along with Shadow.\" She said shrugging lightly before looking back at me.\nMy ears dropped a little. I hadn't exactly thought about what kind of impact their child's absence could have on them, because all this time I thought badly of them, no matter how much Shadow convinced me that they were nice people.\n\"Listen... Shadow doesn't know I'm here. He really is planning on seeing the two of you again, but it's going to take a while since we first have two major problems we need to take care off. Not to mention that he wants to do this on his own.\" I said.\nOne of the two problems I was refering to, was our Scourge problem. The second one, or rather ones, were Ebony and Mephiles. We needed to take care of these problems first before we could think about anything else.\n\"If Shadow wants to do this on his own, than why are you here?\" Lexi asked.\n\"Because despites what people might think, you're son has become very fragile. The reason why I tried meeting with you is to make sure that he's not setting himself up for rejection again.\" I told her honestly. There was no reason to lie. I really did try to search for my lover's parents to see if he wasn't going to do more bad than good by introducing himself into his parents' lives again.\nCall it being overprotective or exaggerating, I know that some people in his position would've ended it all a long time ago and Shadow was still here. But that didn't mean he would've been able to take his parents' rejection for a second time.\nThat was why I wanted to meet them. I wanted to prevent that from happening. I considered it my job to take care of him as his boyfriend and father to his son.\n\"You really do love him, don't you?\" Lexi asked.\n\"I do. More than you can imagine.\" I simply answered with an honest smile.\nLexi returned it, knowing that I was being truthful.\n\n\"I'm home!\" I stated as soon as I walked in through the front door of the bakery, resisting the urge to shake some of the water out of my quills.\nDark clouds had been hanging up in the sky, threatening the mobians and animals below with a rainstorm. Only roughly ten minutes ago, had it actually broken through.\n\"I'm glad to see you're back, Honey. What was so important that you needed to take care off?\" My mom was the one who stood behind the counter. Which was a little strange as I had left seeing Shadow helping our customers instead.\n\"Just stuff. Where is Shadow?\" I asked as I walked into our home and looked around.\n\"Shadow? He's out. He said that he also had some things to take care off. He left a couple of minutes ago. You should be able to catch up with him pretty quick.\" She said.\nAnd that is exactly what I did.\n\nIt took me longer than I thought to find my lover.\nAbout half an hour passed before I saw that familiar colour of black and crimson again.\n'Shadow!' I thought as I skidded to a halt on the sidewalk.\nHe was just standing there in front of a building, looking at a small piece of paper he held in his hands. A sad, slightly nervous, expression and posture was evident on his face and body language. The rain and empty street seemed to add on to the gloomy air that hung around him.\nI quickly walked into that street and approached him, but I came to a stop when I noticed which building he was standing before.\nIt was the orphanage.\n\"I couldn't stop thinking about all you told me yesterday. I just had to see this building for myself. I don't want to go in, though. Not yet. Not until I have a house for them to grow up in.\" Shadow said. He had noticed my arrival without even glancing in my direction. His eyes were glued to the paper in his hands, which I could easily guess was the address Carthoff had given me.\n\"You miss them. Don't you?\" I asked. I didn't care about the rain soaking my clothes and quills even more than they already were.\nHis hands, that had been holding the address just a moment before, lowered to hang by his side. Shadow looked down at the grey color of the sidewalk he stood on. It seemed almost unnoticable because of the pouring rain, but tears slowly made their way down his cheeks. He made no move to wipe them away.\n\"It may not seem like it... But ever since they were born, even though I tried to avoid any contact with them, I haven't been able to think about anything else but them. I long for them, but I can't take care of them on my own.\" Shadow took a pause as he turned to look at me.\n\"I don't want to force you into taking them in, but you have no idea what it feels like! My heart hurts more than all Scourge and those men put me through combined!\" He added, his hand gripping his soaked shirt on the place where the pumping organ was harshly beating against his ribcage.\n\"I know that I don't have the right to speak like that since I'm the one who abandoned them. But I really want them with me. I stopped caring about my lost future and the time I wasted in school to get a high degree ever since I gave birth to Ebony. I only care about my children. And I want them back, but I can't do it if it's going to turn out that I'm going to lose you. I can't raise them on my own, I don't have the funding! It's either a happy family, or losing everything I love again! I know it's selfish, but I don't want to feel that way again!\" He yelled in one breath, not caring that practically anybody living in this street could easily hear him.\nThis had been bothering him for a long time. And it was finally off of his chest.\nI waited for a while as I watched him pant, making sure that he had told me all that he needed to say.\n\"You really have that little faith in me?\" I asked, chuckling lightly to cover up the dissapointment I felt at the fact that Shadow still didn't believe my promise to allow him to be the mother he wanted to be.\nShadow watched me as I approached him, awaiting what could come next. My hands lifted and came to rest on his shoulder, gripping them tightly.\n\"Listen, this is the final time I'm telling you this.\" I warned him and he nodded to show that he was listening.\n\"I am not abandoning you! You are going to be happy with me! And you will take care of those children! Get these words through that skull of yours! You are going to believe it weither you like it or not!\" I said tightening my grip on his shoulders.\nI watched him for a couple of moments, but he didn't do anything. Nor did he say anything.\nI sighed.\nNot many people might understand what he went through these past three years, but I had a pretty good idea. Shadow wasn't acting like this for attention or drama. All he needed was time. In time his wounds could heal. And only with time could he see that I was determined to keep my promise.\nAfter another couple of moments passed by, I decided that it was time we got out of this pouring rain.\n\"Come on.\" I said and walked back into the direction of the bakery.\n\"You mean it, don't you?\" Shadow suddenly said as I was about to walk away.\nI turned back to look at him.\n\"You keep repeating that promise time and time again, but I never find myself believing it. Maybe it's because I've never really been an optimistic person. Or maybe it's because I've already given up. I don't know. But what I do know, is that I'm willing to believe you. Even if it seemed like I never would. What I said was what I felt, I just needed to get it off of my chest.\" He told me in a considerably calmer tone than a couple of minutes earlier.\n\"Well, now that you've relieved yourself a little, do you feel better?\" I asked and walked closer again.\nShadow nodded.\nI smiled lightly before throwing my arm around his shoulder and walking back to my mother's bakery.\n\"Next time you have something to get off of your chest, don't make it sound like your having a mental breakdown.\" I said and couldn't help but chuckle lightly out of slight nervousness.\n\"Sorry.\" He genuinely apologised.\n\"It's nothing. Although, I did discover why your dad liked having you work for him. If you talked so passionatly during those business meetings like you did just now, you must've been drawing contract after contract in.\" I stated.\n\"Well, I didn't exactly participate in the meetings. I was actually observing for future reference. Although, I did used to hold alot of speeches back in highschool and college.\" Shadow said, getting lost in the good 'old' days.\n\"Oh really?\" I asked, trying to imagine my lover on a stage in front of an entire audience, holding an hour-long speech. It seemed almost hard to fathom with the way he acted now.\n\"Why don't you use some of your magic on the bakery? Mom and dad could use some more costumers.\" I suggested. And although it was actually meant as a joke, I think that I saw shadow actually considering it.\n\nMom was angry with us after we had returned home. She scolded us for staying out so long in the rain without even a coat to wear. Not to mention that we didn't exactly tell either of my parents where we had run off to.\nShe made sure to drill her lecture into our skull as she gave herself permission to dry my quills roughly with a towel while Shadow watched as he dried his own. Smiling ever so lightly as he couldn't deny the fact that he liked watching the relationship I had with my mother.\n\"Honestly, what am I to do with you two.\" My mom sighed as she placed both of her hands on her hips.\n\"I should apologise. I had something that I needed to get off my chest and I ended up dragging Sonic with me. It won't happen again.\" Shadow apologised to her, promising her that we wouldn't leave without telling where to ever again.\nMom smiled, seemingly satisfied with the apology.\n\"It's fine. Now the two of you better run off to the bathroom and take a hot shower. Once you're warmed up, you might get to spend some time with someone with who's been eager to see the two of you again.\" She said.\nShe didn't need to tell us twice.\nShe had barely finished her sentence before Shadow made his way to the bathroom, determined to get himself cleaned and dried in record time to get by Silver's side.\nI couldn't keep a small chuckle from escaping once Shadow was out of sight. I turned as I wanted to walk down the hallway to follow him, but a certain someone grabbed my wrist, stopping me from going.\nI turned back to look at my mom. She wanted to tell me something. That much was certain.\n\"You should... Look after Shadow, okay? I know that you're already doing a good job at protecting him and Silver, but you may find yourself protecting more than just the two of them without even knowing it. So... Just be careful, okay?\" She asked, retreating her hand and smiling at me.\n\"Of course! You have nothing to worry about. Shadow, Silver, Ebony, Mephiles and I will all be okay!\" I reassured her and left to follow Shadow into the bathroom.\nMom watched me go in slight concern. I thought that I had understood her message, but I was wrong. She was talking about someone completely different.\n\n\"You look terrible.\" I stated as I stood in the bathroom along with the mother of my child, the one who I had been talking about.\n\"And what little self-esteem I had is gone. Thank you, Sonic.\" Shadow retorted sarcasticly, although, he hadn't meant it to be heard by me at first.\n\"Hey, Hey, Hey! I'm sorry that I insulted you. But have you looked at yourself in the mirror lately? You've given birth only a month ago, but there's absolutely no babyfat to lose! Actually you look a bit on the skinny side.\" I tried explaining my statement as gently as I could without insulting him any further. But subtlety wasn't my strong point.\nShadow sighed and sat down on the edge of the bath. We had been waiting for the bath to fill with water, but it wasn't even halfway yet.\n\"Just say it. I know it's on the tip of your tongue.\" He said as he crossed his arms in front of his chest and looked away. He knew I had something else to say and wanted me to spit it out already.\n\"Those scars on your arms. I've noticed them before, but now that we're on the topic of your body's condition, we might aswell discuss those too now that we're alone.\" I carefully said.\nI tried to bring it up before, but it wasn't exactly such an easy subject to talk about.\n\"It's not from my customers if that's what your wondering.\" Shadow muttered and looked back at me.\n\"Listen, I was weak, okay?! I was hurting over Ebony, Mephiles and being pregnant of Silver and I searched for a way to let it all out! It's not a big deal anymore.\" He said and looked away again.\n\"Shadow, it is a big deal. If you have a clinical depression, than we-\"\n\"I'm not suicidal if that's what you're getting at! Maybe I was at some point, but I have a way out now! I'm not wasting it! I am getting my kids back! I am getting my parents back! I will make you and Silver happy! And I will take care of this baby too!\" He yelled at me as he pushed himself up on his two feet.\nI watched him in surprise.\nI would congratulate him on standing up for himself for once, but I found myself more interested in what he had accidently mentioned at the end of his speech.\nShadow noticed his little slip-up aswell as he crossed his arms in front of his chest in concern again, uncertain about how I would react.\n\"What was that last part?\" I asked silently, wondering if I had heard right.\nIt took him a moment before he answered.\n\"Sonic... I could be pregnant again.\"",
"writing_bbcode_parsed": "<span style='word-wrap: break-word;'><div class='align_center'><strong><span class='underline'>A Way Out: Chapter 6</span></strong></div><br /><br /><strong><span class='underline'>Sonic&#039;s POV</span></strong><br /><br />Shadow just watched me. A look of utter shock was displayed on his face. He was trying to comprehend what he had just heard.<br />The two names that had always been on his mind, silently wondering how they were doing and if they would ever wonder who there mother was and why they were abandoned. Hearing those two names being spoken by me had caused him pain, a small sense of happiness at the sound and shock.<br />&quot;How... How did you...&quot; He answered when he finally got himself to speak.<br />&quot;Carthoff. You dropped the hint that Silver wasn&#039;t your first child. And so, shortly after our son was born, I asked Carthoff what she knew. She told me that you had two other kids who you had seperated with. A couple of days ago I paid her a visit and asked her for any information she could tell me. And she told me the names of the kids.&quot; I explained.<br />Shadow turned away from me, not knowing how to react. And so I continued.<br />&quot;She also gave me an address.&quot; I added.<br />&quot;And what are you planning on doing with it?&quot; He asked, a slight hopeful tone was clear in his voice. He was hoping I would do something with it, but he was also too scared to be dissapointed. I could just see how much he wanted to burst and get that address out of me. He wanted it.<br />&quot;Someone as intelligent as you should figure that out, Shadow.&quot; I said as I turned my attention back to our son, chuckling as the pup tried to snuggle further into my chest.<br />Shadow turned back to me. A suddenly nervous and shy behaviour had taken him over as he wanted to ask me an important question.<br />&quot;When this whole thing with Scourge blows over... Can I... Can I take them home with me?&quot; He asked with a glint of hope in his eyes and voice.<br />&quot;I mean, that is what you&#039;re trying to say, right? That I am free to take them back with me and raise them?&quot; He added, questioning my intentions of telling him all of this.<br />I smiled at him and nodded.<br />Before I even knew it, the widest smile I had ever seen grew on his muzzle at the thought of being the mother to his first two children. His hands were suddenly on my cheeks as he pulled me in for a deep kiss.<br />&quot;I can&#039;t believe it! I can&#039;t believe it! I&#039;m going to see Ebony and Mephiles again! Oh, thank you so much! I can&#039;t believe this!&quot; He stated over and over again in disbelieve and joy. But a thought made him pull away from me and whisked that joy away.<br />&quot;But, Sonic, are you really okay with this? They&#039;re not your kids, after all.&quot; Shadow said. He could understand that it must be difficult for me to make this decision since Ebony and Mephiles weren&#039;t mine.<br />I had an answer for him ready. I have already been thinking about it, way before that visit with Carthoff.<br />Normally I was scratching the back of my head as a habit, but I quickly remembered that I was carrying our infant in my arms.<br />&quot;Well, of course, it is a bit difficult for me because they&#039;re biologically not mine. But it&#039;s practically the same as taking care of your stepchildren, right? And besides, their both still very young. Who knows, I can have a wonderful relationship with him.&quot; I said, trying to convince myself more than I was trying to convince Shadow.<br />Shadow&#039;s shoulders hung a little.<br />&quot;Listen, I understand if you don&#039;t want to do this. Their fathers are strangers, after all.&quot; Shadow took a slight pause. The fact that both the fathers of his two eldest were complete strangers who practically paid him to get raped hurt him immensly, but it was ashaming aswell.<br />Especially for someone of his origin, someone who came from a prestigious family and was supposed to have a high status in his future. People like him weren&#039;t exactly supposed to be reduced to a prostitute who unwillingly spread his legs for anyone who threw money at him simply because he believed that he had no other choice.<br />&quot;No, no, I do want them here. This is practically the same as taking in my stepchildren.&quot; I explained, but Shadow didn&#039;t seem convinced. His shoulders hung even more.<br />&quot;I know that you want to do me good, but these kids deserve the chance to be with their mother. And I know that you love the two of them just as much as you love Silver and want nothing more than to have them here with you.&quot; I took a brief pause.<br />&quot;When I first got the hint that Silver wasn&#039;t your first, I thought it was only natural I&#039;d take all the kids in if I really wanted their mother so badly. I&#039;m not prepared for it, but hell, a new parent is never prepared. So as soon as Scourge is behind bars, you will get your ass to that orphanage and bring those kids back with you. You got that?&quot; I asked and Shadow nodded eagerly. He couldn&#039;t wait to take Ebony and Mephiles home with him.<br />&quot;And besides, we&#039;re both still young. Who knows, maybe next year you&#039;ll have another kid and I am one-hundred percent sure that it will be mine, because I&#039;m going to make sure of that.&quot; I teased as I gave him a small wink. Shadow blushed lightly out of embarrassment as he looked away.<br />He didn&#039;t really know what to think about getting pregnant so soon again, even if it was just meant as a tease. One part of him wanted nothing more as he had gotten used to the comforting movement inside his womb, but another part of him wanted to keep it with the three he already had.<br /><br />The rest of the day seemed to fly by. I spend most of my time looking after Silver while Shadow was busy in the bakery. I had alot of catching up to do with my son and now that I was living here aswell, I had more than enough time to do so.<br />But when the bakery closed up for the day, I had to hand him back over to the mother. After a whole day of standing behind the counter while hearing his infant in the background would get me longing to spend some time with him aswell.<br />Mom, dad, Shadow and I decided to watch a couple of movies after we had finished our dinner and took care of the dishes. Nothing scary, though. Or loud since it would only serve to wake Silver up. Not that he was a light sleeper. From what his mother has told me, the kid was a pretty deep sleeper.<br />Our family fun didn&#039;t last for long, though.<br />In the middle of the movie, Shadow just suddenly shot up from the couch and left to go to his bedroom. He told us goodnight, which mom and dad returned before paying attention to the movie again. I wondered what made him leave us so sudden when he seemed so into the movie. So I decided to get up and follow him.<br />Once I stood in the doorway, I watched Shadow check up on Silver before moving to dress into something more comfortable to sleep in.<br />I wanted to walk in and tell him goodnight, but something made me change my mind. Instead I closed and locked the door before wrapping my arms around his waist as I pulled him against my chest.<br />&quot;S-Sonic?&quot; Shadow asked, startled as he had not expected me to grab him like that out of nowhere.<br />&quot;You surprised me. Don&#039;t do that.&quot; He said once he got over the initial shock and placed his hands on my arms.<br />&quot;I won&#039;t.&quot; I muttered with a low tone as my arms pressed him closer against me. My lips placed a soft kiss on his shoulder.<br />&quot;You suddenly got affectionate, shouldn&#039;t you be watched a movie?&quot; Shadow asked, he felt a bit nervous when one of my hands traveled downward to rest on one side of his hips.<br />&quot;Shouldn&#039;t you be watching aswell?&quot; I retorted as I placed another kiss, but this time on the side of his throat.<br />&quot;N-No, I got tired and wanted to get some sleep. Silver is very demanding at night.&quot; He answered as he softly got himself free from my grip and started to undress himself, wanting to dress into something more comfortable to sleep in.<br />But I didn&#039;t let him continue once his clothes were all removed.<br />&quot;Shadow.&quot; I muttered his name as the said hedgehog wanted to grab something to wear. He paused and looked at me, only to have my lips pressed against his. My hands settling on his lower back as I pulled him closer again.<br />Shadow moaned lightly in surprise as he immediatly kissed back, wrapping his arms around my neck as he tried to pull me closer and deepen the kiss.<br />My hands moved from his lower back and came to rest on his butt, squeezing it lightly. He shivered lightly under my touch. He had always been more on the sensitive side. That was something I had noticed during the first month he stayed with me, when I had gotten him pregnant with Silver.<br />&quot;It&#039;s better if you lie down.&quot; I told him after I pulled away from the kiss to take a breather.<br />Shadow pulled away from our hold and did as he was told, lying down on the mattress with his legs seperated a little as if he tried to invite me in. I didn&#039;t follow yet, though. First, I quickly got rid of my clothes before lying down on top of him, his legs and arms wrapping around me as he was the one to kiss me this time.<br />Shadow had always shown some resistance to my affection and during sex. But today was different. I wasn&#039;t doing this because I had paid him and he wasn&#039;t doing this because he was forcibly prostituting himself for Scourge&#039;s greed. For once, we both wanted this instead of just me.<br />I wonder how Shadow must feel. This would be the first time he was to be taken with his consent. He was probably nervous, wondering if it would feel different now that it was consensual.<br />Shadow moaned lightly into the kiss when my tongue asked for entrance. But instead of granting it, he broke away from me and panted. I didn&#039;t leave it at that, though. My lips went down to carress the side of throat and his shoulder while my hands took the privilege to explore his body.<br />I heard him gasp when I moved myself to lie more comfortably on him and my growing erection unintentionally rubbed against his clitoris.<br />&quot;S-Sonic... I need to warn you... I&#039;m... Ah...&quot; Shadow was caught off by a sudden moan mixed with a surprised yelp when I moved one of my hands down to his lower lips and spread them apart.<br />&quot;Just enjoy it. This is the first time you actually want this aswell, right?&quot; I asked and watched him nod.<br />&quot;Than stop worrying and just enjoy this. You&#039;ve always tried your best to pleasure your clients, now it&#039;s my turn to make you feel good.&quot; I stated before pushing two of my fingers inside.<br />&quot;But-&quot; Shadow was about to contradict me with something, but was cut short again by the sensation of my fingers entering him. Both of us knew that he didn&#039;t need to be prepared, but that didn&#039;t mean that a bit of foreplay was out of the question.<br />Shadow was thinking the same thing as he reached down between our bodies and wrapped his hand around my shaft. He wanted to help me to my climax aswell. Not that it made much of a difference. I really wanted to do this and my member had quickly grown hard to prove it. His hand might try all it got to pleasure me, but I felt like I could only be pleased with his inner walls wrapped around me.<br />And when my fingers felt around, making him moan with every stroke, I knew that he wanted this just as much as I did. He was already so moist in there. So I quickly pulled my fingers out and positioned my member.<br />&quot;You ready?&quot; I asked with my tip prodding against his entrance.<br />&quot;Yes, but... Sonic, don&#039;t you think we should use protection?&quot; He asked, but I disagreed.<br />&quot;No, it&#039;s not going to hurt either of us to do it this once without protection. And besides, I don&#039;t have any.&quot; I answered before I thrusted the tip in.<br />I groaned as I pushed my hard manhood inside. Giving birth was said to ruin a person&#039;s gender, but that wasn&#039;t the case here. Even though, Shadow had already given birth three times in a row, he was still a bit tight. His body had gotten used to this, after all, and recovered quickly.<br />He still had alot to offer. To me, that is. I wasn&#039;t going to let anyone else use him like this again. If there was someone he was going to give himself to, it would be to me and no one else.<br />&quot;Sonic, You have to listen to me... I&#039;m...&quot; Shadow tried to warn me for something, but I cut him off by kissing him and preventing him for continuing. I wasn&#039;t in the right state of mind to listen, I was far too preoccupied with pleasing us both. And Shadow was quickly losing interest in trying to warn me.<br />He moaned into the kiss as he seperated his legs a little further apart, trying to provide me all the space I needed as I pulled my member out until only the tip remained in before thrusting it back in. Shadow wasn&#039;t new to this, so I didn&#039;t exactly need to hold back. Although, I did notice that he liked it much more if I did him gently. It must be a nice change from what he is used to getting on a daily basis more than once.<br />I pulled away from the kiss as I needed to take a breath. Shadow took the chance at oxygen to speak.<br />&quot;Sonic, we need to be quiet. Otherwise Silver will wake up again. And let&#039;s not forget about your parents.&quot; Shadow whispered over to me, suddenly trying to be as quiet as he possibly could for our sleeping son&#039;s sake.<br />&quot;Don&#039;t worry.&quot; I reassured him as I thrusted inside him again, making him moan softly.<br />&quot;Sonikku.&quot; He softly called my name as his arms wrapped around my neck to keep me close, placing brief kisses on my forehead, lips and chin as I gently continued to push my member in his entrance.<br />Shadow placed a hand over his mouth to muffle his quiet moans as he could hear footsteps in the hallway. He was being careful. Probably because my dad had told him that, whenever my girlfriend or boyfriend at that time were going at it, they were always able to hear us because of the thin walls. Knowing that fact must be the reason why he was trying to stay as silent as possible.<br />It made me chuckle lightly.<br />Shadow glared lightly at me for chuckling, but that quickly came to an end when I thrusted hard inside for once, making him yelp in surprise instead.<br />&quot;You have to be quick, I don&#039;t want Silver to see this.&quot; He said.<br />I didn&#039;t respond to his words. Shadow was smart enough to know that Silver wasn&#039;t able to understand what was going on yet. He was just being a paranoid parent. But, to calm him at least a little bit, I fastened my pace a little anyway.<br />A soft moan, pant and gasp left him each time my tip touched his cervix. He was definitely enjoying being treated gently for once. And the fact that it was me, someone he actually liked alot, multiplied that feeling. A light, happy blush was even tainting his cheeks as this felt good for once.<br />&quot;Ah... Sonikku...&quot; He whispered as his body rocked along with mine everytime our hips met. His fingers clung onto my fur as I thrusted. We weren&#039;t doing it rough, but pleasure was still growing for both of us. This was how making love really felt like. Gentle and full of love for eachother.<br />Our eyes were closed as we panted and moaned silently. His inner walls were clenching around my manhood. We were both getting close to our orgasm. I could feel it from the pressure that was building up inside me and the way Shadow held me so close to himself, preventing me from getting away.<br />&quot;I&#039;m getting... close.&quot; I groaned as I thrusted a bit faster in him.<br />&quot;Inside... Please, do it inside...&quot; Shadow requested through his pants, feeling his own climax coming aswell.<br />&quot;I will.&quot; I muttered as I wasn&#039;t planning on cumming anywhere else besides inside of him. Both of us were close.<br />It only took another thrust or two before Shadow&#039;s orgasm hit him. The clenching of his organ send mine over the edge aswell as I thrusted as deeply as I could inside him, making sure that my semen would definitely get in his womb. Shadow held onto me to keep me from getting away.<br />&quot;I love you.&quot; He muttered as he placed brief kisses on my chin and jaw.<br />&quot;I love you too.&quot; I responded to his confession as I smiled, one of my hands running through his top quills.<br />A thought hit me, making me chuckle nervously as I had just realised something about the reason why my lover asked me for protection. But I decided to let it rest for now and instead snuggled my muzzle into the crook of his neck and enjoyed the aftermath of our love making.<br /><br />The next day, Shadow seemed nervous as the five of us were sitting at the table, Silver occupying a tall stool specifically for infants. Every moment he expected mom or at least dad to speak up about what had occured yesterday.<br />I wasn&#039;t so troubled by it. In the past, my parents hadn&#039;t exactly said anything about it either. And we were pretty silent yesterday, I doubted that they noticed anything at all. And if they did, I&#039;m sure they wouldn&#039;t mention it. That is, until my old man found the right moment to tease me about it.<br />&quot;Shadow, are you okay, honey? You look nervous.&quot; Mom said, stating the obvious.<br />&quot;I&#039;m sure it&#039;s nothing. It&#039;s something between the two of us.&quot; I calmly answered, knowing that my mom would quickly drop it.<br />And she did.<br />Shadow didn&#039;t seem the least bit satisfied by that, though. Maybe there was something else that was bothering him. And I had a feeling it had something to do with last night. Something about what I had realised.<br />Despite being so nervous, he wasn&#039;t acting so weird anymore like yesterday. Keeping distance from anyone in this house besides Silver and being so jealous when Mrs. Rose was talking about how much she wanted her daughter to be together with me instead of him.<br />According to my parents, he had been acting this way for a few days now. And that strange behaviour was gone today. That seemed all too coincidental.<br />&quot;Shadow, do you mind opening the shop up?&quot; My dad asked with a yawn. Even though he had been helping mom in the bakery for years now, he still didn&#039;t get used to the early hours.<br />&quot;Sure.&quot; The said hedgehog answered as he stood up to put his bowl and spoon in the kitchen. His breakfast was already finished, so he decided to do as he was asked.<br />I watched him go until he wasn&#039;t in sight anymore before anyone decided to speak.<br />&quot;Sweetie, now that you&#039;re here, you might aswell help with the bakery.&quot; Mom suggested, but I had to decline.<br />&quot;No. I&#039;m sorry, but I can&#039;t. I have other plans today. Once I finish those, I can still come back and help, though.&quot; I said as I got up from my seat aswell.<br />&quot;Fine. Give them hell out there, kid!&quot; Dad stated as if it was my first day of school all over again. It was a statement that he used to encourage me. Why he used it just now? I don&#039;t think even he knew.<br />I gave them a quick goodbye before I left the kitchen and made my way into the bakery to place a quick kiss on my hedgehog&#039;s lips before moving to leave.<br />&quot;Sonic!&quot; Shadow called my name before I left.<br />&quot;Huh? What?&quot; I asked him what was wrong as I turned back towards him.<br />&quot;About last night... Do you think that I&#039;m.... I mean, after last night, we could be... Nevermind, where are you going?&quot; He asked instead, changing the subject as he suddenly didn&#039;t want to talk about it anymore.<br />I knew what he meant. So I smiled at him as I approached.<br />&quot;Shadow, only time will tell, right? And to answer your question, I&#039;m going out to do some important bussiness.&quot; I told him before pulling him in for a comforting hug. Shadow accepted it gratefully and let his head rest on my chest.<br />&quot;Thank you. You do too much for me.&quot; He said as he pulled away from our brief, but comforting, embrace.<br />&quot;What can I say, love makes you do strange things.&quot; I answered as I looked back down at him.<br />&quot;Now I need to get going. But I&#039;ll be back later to help around in the bakery. I&#039;ll see you later.&quot; I said. Shadow gave me a quick peck on my cheek before I left and started what I had been planning for today.<br /><br />It took me so long to find her that it was already close to noon by the time I had decided to go home. But as I turned to walk back to my parents&#039; house, it looked like luck was on my side when I walked past a certain coffeeshop.<br />I remembered that Shadow once told me that his parents often came here during their lunch break. Alot could&#039;ve changed these past three years, but there was still a chance I could find my targets here. Or atleast one of them.<br />And when I walked in through the front door, I knew that I was right.<br />Almost immediatly I noticed Lexi sitting at a table, drinking her coffee while also intently watching the screen of her laptop as if she was in a trance.<br />Finding her had proven to be surprisingly difficult despite the fact that she was pretty well-known. People like her usually tend to stand out like a sore thumb, but not her.<br />I approached her table as I thought about what I should say.<br />&quot;Excuse me, mind if I sit here?&quot; I asked.<br />Lexi didn&#039;t answer. She seemed so into her work that she barely even noticed me standing there. After spending the whole morning searching for her, I wasn&#039;t exactly the most patient person around, so I just pulled the chair back and sat down.<br />Even as I just sat down on the chair, Lexi didn&#039;t move an inch. Her eyes just kept concentrating on the screen as her fingers swiftly moved over the keyboard.<br />Did she not notice me?<br />&quot;Is there a reason why you took that particular chair when there are other tables currently unoccupied.&quot; After a while of silence, she had finally decided to speak. Apparently she had noticed that I took this seat, but hoped I would move to another table if she concentrated on her work instead of wasting time starting a conversation with me.<br />&quot;I don&#039;t know, are you Lexi Robotnik?&quot; I asked. I needed to know if I had the right business woman sitting in front of me before saying anything else.<br />Lexi closed her laptop and let her eyes meet mine. She waited for me to speak.<br />&quot;So you are. Where&#039;s your husband, Black Doom? Isn&#039;t he supposed to be here too? I thought the two of you always took your lunch breaks here together.&quot; I stated as I had easily noticed her husband&#039;s absence.<br />&quot;We used to, but not lately. Why the interest in my husband?&quot; Lexi asked.<br />She was a bit annoyed with me disturbing her work. It was obvious that she had been sleeping bad lately too. I wonder if it was because of work or because they kicked a certain hedgehog out of their house when he needed them the most.<br />&quot;Because I had prefered him to be here for this talk.&quot; I said honestly.<br />&quot;Talk?&quot; She repeated, wanting me to continue explaining and give her more information about my intention of being here.<br />&quot;Yes, talk. It&#039;s important.&quot; I simply told her.<br />&quot;Well, too bad. My husband can&#039;t be here. His lunchbreak is already over. And if he was still on his break, he would still be in his office.&quot; She said as she leant back against the chair.<br />Well, that is dissapointing. I had hoped both my lover&#039;s parents would&#039;ve both been present for this particular conversation.<br />I leant with my elbows on the table.<br />&quot;What is it that you want to talk about?&quot; Lexi asked.<br />&quot;Shadow.&quot;<br />Lexi looked down while she removed her reading glasses from her muzzle and placed it on the table next to her laptop.<br />&quot;There is nothing to talk about.&quot; She stated, clearly not wanting to talk about her one and only son who suddenly didn&#039;t belong in their lives anymore.<br />Yeah, to say that I was a little bit ticked off would be an understatement.<br />Shadow was only nineteen years old. Intelligent or not, how was he supposed to get out of that predicament on his own? Especially when he was pregnant of some pervert who didn&#039;t know right from wrong? It was clear that Shadow had tried to get out of it without help to avoid having anybody else find out.<br />He was still young, but his parents were older, wiser and were supposed to help him instead of turning their backs on them. If they were there for him, Shadow would&#039;ve had an escape and it would&#039;ve never had come as far as this.<br />Even though, he seems much happier than when I first reunited with him in that bar, it was clear that it was all pretence, a mask he put up in order to take care of Silver like a mother should. He didn&#039;t want to give himself the time he desperatly needed to heal for a good mental health. Instead he pushed it all aside, thinking it would be the best for our son.<br />&quot;Yes, there is! After finding out what he had been doing and pregnant to top it all off, why did both of you abandon him?&quot; I practically hissed, not wasting anymore time in taking it easy with her. There was no easy way to talk about this subject, after all.<br />&quot;What? How... How do you know so much?&quot; Lexi asked in shock. Never in these three years had anyone ever suspected what happened to their son ever since he just seemed to have vanished in thin air.<br />&quot;How do I know? I just so happen to have him living with m-&quot; I said, but I wasn&#039;t nearly done talking. Lexi stopped me as she suddenly shifted to the front of her seat and grabbed the sleeves of my jacket.<br />&quot;What?! Shadow is living with you?! He&#039;s okay?! Please, tell me he&#039;s okay!&quot; She begged me, her eyes watering from tears she had kept within herself for a long time.<br />It was official now. My father&#039;s suspicion was confirmed. His parents did want him back. Or at least his mother did.<br />&quot;Well, I wouldn&#039;t exactly say &#039;okay&#039;, but he&#039;s trying to keep his head above water.&quot; I answered, hoping that could calm her down a little.<br />It didn&#039;t sooth her, but she did calm down. Her hands let go of me as she allowed herself to sink back into the chair, letting her stiff posture go for now.<br />&quot;Did he tell you that we had forsaken him?&quot; She asked and I nodded.<br />&quot;After I had convinced him that I would help him, yes. Telling someone about it all seemed to relief him.&quot; I told her.<br />Lexi sighed.<br />She never wanted to abandon him, but by yelling at him when he was in a very emotional state after his father practically disowned him, she did come across much worse than she wanted to.<br />If Shadow had been a little more emotionally stable at the time, he would&#039;ve been able to give his parents some time to come to terms with the news of their son being a prostitute and being knocked up. It could&#039;ve saved him alot of trouble.<br />Be it early pregnancy hormones, the impact of really bad events or maybe even both, either way, mental fragility can be something scary.<br />I watched Lexi for a few moments. She looked like she wanted to talk about it, but didn&#039;t know what to say. So I decided to take the initiative.<br />&quot;If you&#039;re wondering if Shadow is angry, he&#039;s not. Actually when I suggested the idea that you might want him back, he was practically jumping at the chance of trying it out. But I think it&#039;s going to take a while before he goes for it. So just stay patient for a little while longer, okay? And tell Doom that he should prepare himself aswell. Shadow might come with quite a surprise, after all.&quot; I told her and this time Lexi nodded, showing me that she understood.<br />&quot;But there is one problem. I don&#039;t think Black Doom will listen to me.&quot; She said.<br />&quot;What? Why not?&quot; I asked. You would think that, being his wife, Doom would listen to her.<br />&quot;We&#039;ve been having some trouble in our marriage.&quot; Lexi admitted. She almost seemed a bit embarrassed to tell me about the problems the two of them were dealing with in their relationship.<br />&quot;Does it have to do with Shadow?&quot; I asked as it seemed like a logical explanation to me.<br />Lexi nodded as she looked down at her hands.<br />&quot;Alot of insults were thrown after we had scared Shadow away. I blamed my husband for pushing our son too much, for expecting to much from him. While he blamed me for being too soft, for allowing too much. In the end we stopped talking to eachother and just ignored eachother to prevent anymore hard words from fall. Years of love and affection were gone, vanished along with Shadow.&quot; She said shrugging lightly before looking back at me.<br />My ears dropped a little. I hadn&#039;t exactly thought about what kind of impact their child&#039;s absence could have on them, because all this time I thought badly of them, no matter how much Shadow convinced me that they were nice people.<br />&quot;Listen... Shadow doesn&#039;t know I&#039;m here. He really is planning on seeing the two of you again, but it&#039;s going to take a while since we first have two major problems we need to take care off. Not to mention that he wants to do this on his own.&quot; I said.<br />One of the two problems I was refering to, was our Scourge problem. The second one, or rather ones, were Ebony and Mephiles. We needed to take care of these problems first before we could think about anything else.<br />&quot;If Shadow wants to do this on his own, than why are you here?&quot; Lexi asked.<br />&quot;Because despites what people might think, you&#039;re son has become very fragile. The reason why I tried meeting with you is to make sure that he&#039;s not setting himself up for rejection again.&quot; I told her honestly. There was no reason to lie. I really did try to search for my lover&#039;s parents to see if he wasn&#039;t going to do more bad than good by introducing himself into his parents&#039; lives again.<br />Call it being overprotective or exaggerating, I know that some people in his position would&#039;ve ended it all a long time ago and Shadow was still here. But that didn&#039;t mean he would&#039;ve been able to take his parents&#039; rejection for a second time.<br />That was why I wanted to meet them. I wanted to prevent that from happening. I considered it my job to take care of him as his boyfriend and father to his son.<br />&quot;You really do love him, don&#039;t you?&quot; Lexi asked.<br />&quot;I do. More than you can imagine.&quot; I simply answered with an honest smile.<br />Lexi returned it, knowing that I was being truthful.<br /><br />&quot;I&#039;m home!&quot; I stated as soon as I walked in through the front door of the bakery, resisting the urge to shake some of the water out of my quills.<br />Dark clouds had been hanging up in the sky, threatening the mobians and animals below with a rainstorm. Only roughly ten minutes ago, had it actually broken through.<br />&quot;I&#039;m glad to see you&#039;re back, Honey. What was so important that you needed to take care off?&quot; My mom was the one who stood behind the counter. Which was a little strange as I had left seeing Shadow helping our customers instead.<br />&quot;Just stuff. Where is Shadow?&quot; I asked as I walked into our home and looked around.<br />&quot;Shadow? He&#039;s out. He said that he also had some things to take care off. He left a couple of minutes ago. You should be able to catch up with him pretty quick.&quot; She said.<br />And that is exactly what I did.<br /><br />It took me longer than I thought to find my lover.<br />About half an hour passed before I saw that familiar colour of black and crimson again.<br />&#039;Shadow!&#039; I thought as I skidded to a halt on the sidewalk.<br />He was just standing there in front of a building, looking at a small piece of paper he held in his hands. A sad, slightly nervous, expression and posture was evident on his face and body language. The rain and empty street seemed to add on to the gloomy air that hung around him.<br />I quickly walked into that street and approached him, but I came to a stop when I noticed which building he was standing before.<br />It was the orphanage.<br />&quot;I couldn&#039;t stop thinking about all you told me yesterday. I just had to see this building for myself. I don&#039;t want to go in, though. Not yet. Not until I have a house for them to grow up in.&quot; Shadow said. He had noticed my arrival without even glancing in my direction. His eyes were glued to the paper in his hands, which I could easily guess was the address Carthoff had given me.<br />&quot;You miss them. Don&#039;t you?&quot; I asked. I didn&#039;t care about the rain soaking my clothes and quills even more than they already were.<br />His hands, that had been holding the address just a moment before, lowered to hang by his side. Shadow looked down at the grey color of the sidewalk he stood on. It seemed almost unnoticable because of the pouring rain, but tears slowly made their way down his cheeks. He made no move to wipe them away.<br />&quot;It may not seem like it... But ever since they were born, even though I tried to avoid any contact with them, I haven&#039;t been able to think about anything else but them. I long for them, but I can&#039;t take care of them on my own.&quot; Shadow took a pause as he turned to look at me.<br />&quot;I don&#039;t want to force you into taking them in, but you have no idea what it feels like! My heart hurts more than all Scourge and those men put me through combined!&quot; He added, his hand gripping his soaked shirt on the place where the pumping organ was harshly beating against his ribcage.<br />&quot;I know that I don&#039;t have the right to speak like that since I&#039;m the one who abandoned them. But I really want them with me. I stopped caring about my lost future and the time I wasted in school to get a high degree ever since I gave birth to Ebony. I only care about my children. And I want them back, but I can&#039;t do it if it&#039;s going to turn out that I&#039;m going to lose you. I can&#039;t raise them on my own, I don&#039;t have the funding! It&#039;s either a happy family, or losing everything I love again! I know it&#039;s selfish, but I don&#039;t want to feel that way again!&quot; He yelled in one breath, not caring that practically anybody living in this street could easily hear him.<br />This had been bothering him for a long time. And it was finally off of his chest.<br />I waited for a while as I watched him pant, making sure that he had told me all that he needed to say.<br />&quot;You really have that little faith in me?&quot; I asked, chuckling lightly to cover up the dissapointment I felt at the fact that Shadow still didn&#039;t believe my promise to allow him to be the mother he wanted to be.<br />Shadow watched me as I approached him, awaiting what could come next. My hands lifted and came to rest on his shoulder, gripping them tightly.<br />&quot;Listen, this is the final time I&#039;m telling you this.&quot; I warned him and he nodded to show that he was listening.<br />&quot;I am not abandoning you! You are going to be happy with me! And you will take care of those children! Get these words through that skull of yours! You are going to believe it weither you like it or not!&quot; I said tightening my grip on his shoulders.<br />I watched him for a couple of moments, but he didn&#039;t do anything. Nor did he say anything.<br />I sighed.<br />Not many people might understand what he went through these past three years, but I had a pretty good idea. Shadow wasn&#039;t acting like this for attention or drama. All he needed was time. In time his wounds could heal. And only with time could he see that I was determined to keep my promise.<br />After another couple of moments passed by, I decided that it was time we got out of this pouring rain.<br />&quot;Come on.&quot; I said and walked back into the direction of the bakery.<br />&quot;You mean it, don&#039;t you?&quot; Shadow suddenly said as I was about to walk away.<br />I turned back to look at him.<br />&quot;You keep repeating that promise time and time again, but I never find myself believing it. Maybe it&#039;s because I&#039;ve never really been an optimistic person. Or maybe it&#039;s because I&#039;ve already given up. I don&#039;t know. But what I do know, is that I&#039;m willing to believe you. Even if it seemed like I never would. What I said was what I felt, I just needed to get it off of my chest.&quot; He told me in a considerably calmer tone than a couple of minutes earlier.<br />&quot;Well, now that you&#039;ve relieved yourself a little, do you feel better?&quot; I asked and walked closer again.<br />Shadow nodded.<br />I smiled lightly before throwing my arm around his shoulder and walking back to my mother&#039;s bakery.<br />&quot;Next time you have something to get off of your chest, don&#039;t make it sound like your having a mental breakdown.&quot; I said and couldn&#039;t help but chuckle lightly out of slight nervousness.<br />&quot;Sorry.&quot; He genuinely apologised.<br />&quot;It&#039;s nothing. Although, I did discover why your dad liked having you work for him. If you talked so passionatly during those business meetings like you did just now, you must&#039;ve been drawing contract after contract in.&quot; I stated.<br />&quot;Well, I didn&#039;t exactly participate in the meetings. I was actually observing for future reference. Although, I did used to hold alot of speeches back in highschool and college.&quot; Shadow said, getting lost in the good &#039;old&#039; days.<br />&quot;Oh really?&quot; I asked, trying to imagine my lover on a stage in front of an entire audience, holding an hour-long speech. It seemed almost hard to fathom with the way he acted now.<br />&quot;Why don&#039;t you use some of your magic on the bakery? Mom and dad could use some more costumers.&quot; I suggested. And although it was actually meant as a joke, I think that I saw shadow actually considering it.<br /><br />Mom was angry with us after we had returned home. She scolded us for staying out so long in the rain without even a coat to wear. Not to mention that we didn&#039;t exactly tell either of my parents where we had run off to.<br />She made sure to drill her lecture into our skull as she gave herself permission to dry my quills roughly with a towel while Shadow watched as he dried his own. Smiling ever so lightly as he couldn&#039;t deny the fact that he liked watching the relationship I had with my mother.<br />&quot;Honestly, what am I to do with you two.&quot; My mom sighed as she placed both of her hands on her hips.<br />&quot;I should apologise. I had something that I needed to get off my chest and I ended up dragging Sonic with me. It won&#039;t happen again.&quot; Shadow apologised to her, promising her that we wouldn&#039;t leave without telling where to ever again.<br />Mom smiled, seemingly satisfied with the apology.<br />&quot;It&#039;s fine. Now the two of you better run off to the bathroom and take a hot shower. Once you&#039;re warmed up, you might get to spend some time with someone with who&#039;s been eager to see the two of you again.&quot; She said.<br />She didn&#039;t need to tell us twice.<br />She had barely finished her sentence before Shadow made his way to the bathroom, determined to get himself cleaned and dried in record time to get by Silver&#039;s side.<br />I couldn&#039;t keep a small chuckle from escaping once Shadow was out of sight. I turned as I wanted to walk down the hallway to follow him, but a certain someone grabbed my wrist, stopping me from going.<br />I turned back to look at my mom. She wanted to tell me something. That much was certain.<br />&quot;You should... Look after Shadow, okay? I know that you&#039;re already doing a good job at protecting him and Silver, but you may find yourself protecting more than just the two of them without even knowing it. So... Just be careful, okay?&quot; She asked, retreating her hand and smiling at me.<br />&quot;Of course! You have nothing to worry about. Shadow, Silver, Ebony, Mephiles and I will all be okay!&quot; I reassured her and left to follow Shadow into the bathroom.<br />Mom watched me go in slight concern. I thought that I had understood her message, but I was wrong. She was talking about someone completely different.<br /><br />&quot;You look terrible.&quot; I stated as I stood in the bathroom along with the mother of my child, the one who I had been talking about.<br />&quot;And what little self-esteem I had is gone. Thank you, Sonic.&quot; Shadow retorted sarcasticly, although, he hadn&#039;t meant it to be heard by me at first.<br />&quot;Hey, Hey, Hey! I&#039;m sorry that I insulted you. But have you looked at yourself in the mirror lately? You&#039;ve given birth only a month ago, but there&#039;s absolutely no babyfat to lose! Actually you look a bit on the skinny side.&quot; I tried explaining my statement as gently as I could without insulting him any further. But subtlety wasn&#039;t my strong point.<br />Shadow sighed and sat down on the edge of the bath. We had been waiting for the bath to fill with water, but it wasn&#039;t even halfway yet.<br />&quot;Just say it. I know it&#039;s on the tip of your tongue.&quot; He said as he crossed his arms in front of his chest and looked away. He knew I had something else to say and wanted me to spit it out already.<br />&quot;Those scars on your arms. I&#039;ve noticed them before, but now that we&#039;re on the topic of your body&#039;s condition, we might aswell discuss those too now that we&#039;re alone.&quot; I carefully said.<br />I tried to bring it up before, but it wasn&#039;t exactly such an easy subject to talk about.<br />&quot;It&#039;s not from my customers if that&#039;s what your wondering.&quot; Shadow muttered and looked back at me.<br />&quot;Listen, I was weak, okay?! I was hurting over Ebony, Mephiles and being pregnant of Silver and I searched for a way to let it all out! It&#039;s not a big deal anymore.&quot; He said and looked away again.<br />&quot;Shadow, it is a big deal. If you have a clinical depression, than we-&quot;<br />&quot;I&#039;m not suicidal if that&#039;s what you&#039;re getting at! Maybe I was at some point, but I have a way out now! I&#039;m not wasting it! I am getting my kids back! I am getting my parents back! I will make you and Silver happy! And I will take care of this baby too!&quot; He yelled at me as he pushed himself up on his two feet.<br />I watched him in surprise.<br />I would congratulate him on standing up for himself for once, but I found myself more interested in what he had accidently mentioned at the end of his speech.<br />Shadow noticed his little slip-up aswell as he crossed his arms in front of his chest in concern again, uncertain about how I would react.<br />&quot;What was that last part?&quot; I asked silently, wondering if I had heard right.<br />It took him a moment before he answered.<br />&quot;Sonic... I could be pregnant again.&quot;</span>",
