Even so, I might need to find a way of maintaining some sign of life while I'm working on a big piece like this, without it slowing down my progress to a frustrating degree. My current thought is to reserve one day each week to practice sketches, irrespective of whatever else I'm working on.\n\nAnyways, this is a learning experience as always. The first thing to note is that in spite of my efforts, I'm apparently still slow as hell on these, with this one having taken forty hours in total. I still maintain that it doesn't [i]look[/i] like a forty hour piece, but it does have some details like grass, brush in the foreground, and focal blur that I like to think one can recognize as extra effort. Whether I should expend that extra effort remains an open question, though: while I do intend to make a full effort to make something nice every once and a while, I might have to exercise some judgment in precisely [i]when[/i] I do that, and for what pieces. Was this one worth that? Not really sure, since I did want to include lots of the subtle details I put in this one, but there will always be the nagging feeling that such things don't enhance the pornographic qualities of the work, which are the most important thing here. In recent times, though, I've taken \"finished digital piece\" to always mean my best effort, but maybe I should figure out some kind of inbetween for ideas that merit more than a sketch but less than a whole month of dedication. A little frustrating that what I learn the most from these is yet a longer list of things to learn, though.\n\nOne thing that slowed this down a bit at the start was that I thought I had it largely planned out, but ended up changing lots of fundamental details as I went. The pose itself went largely unchanged, but this was originally meant to be a top-down view, with the two cats on their sides. Once I determined that the background (and even foreground) would be much more interesting this way, though, lots of other details started coming in like the fences in the background, and lots of things about those ended up eating a lot of time. As silly as it sounds, the fence, the tufts of grass, and the brush in front all took well over an hour each to make, and it all adds up, as one can see. I still find myself wishing I did more with each of them, too (doesn't the bottom of the fence look so bland, with how perfectly straight it is?). Maybe somewhat detailed grass and fences will help someone get off, though; I don't know. They did certainly help in defining the image's palette, though, which is a little more washed out than my usual, but a deliberate choice regardless. There were a few competing factors in the decision to use those colours, but I think there are more for it than against, even if I usually prefer brighter ones.\n\nOne would think I should have the characters on my mind a bit more, considering that they're the focus of the whole thing. For the most part, I think they turned out fine, and I don't have too many thoughts. As is often the case, the spatial implications of large round things do trip me up a bit, and there's the glaring flaw of the characters' legs occupying space that the belly should, ruining a lot of the illusion of roundness of the latter. Maybe it's bad that I'm willing to recognize these problems without spending the hours I'd need to fix them, but seeing as how I take as long as I do even without that, it might be for the better. I should really look out for that problem in the future, though ― maybe I'll make some sketches focused on it. Maybe I should be a bit more cognizant of the mediocrity of certain aspects, like the inconsistent travelling of light on my own body as opposed to the other cat's, or how the breasts are kind of floating, or how we don't really make any impression in the grass, or how our shadows should probably be darker.\n\nIt certainly has its issues, but I think this one managed to accomplish most of what I outlined at the start, and I managed to pick up a few little things I liked along the way. I'll hopefully be able to do much better than this one day, and without such an exorbitant investment of time, but I'll take it for now. At least as importantly, though, I hope all the effort translated into a bit more in the way of carnal pleasure.",
