With another sketch getting produced in the middle of this, I think I might've messed up my record of how much time I spent on it, because I really feel like I spent more than nineteen hours on it. What I ended up doing was generating some weird texture with a filter that I don't even remember, and then applying an edge detection filter to that to create hard edges with what looked like highlights and shadows on them. That still resulted in some kind of grainy texture that became apparent if you looked too close, though, so I added a weak blur filter on top. I'm starting to really appreciate Krita's ability to apply filters nondestructively, but having to re-blur this whole background every time I changed anything slowed the program down a decent bit. Then I had to clear out part of this texture in the upper right to add what was supposed to look like steps down into the cave (there was lineart there, but I got rid of it entirely), complete with my own shading to try to match the rest, and I was stuck with the rocks I drew not fitting the aesthetic of everything else. I pretty much decided on the fly to do them without outlines, after a stupid amount of time making them in Inkscape, but I guess it at least fits.\n\nMy feelings on the dragon herself are a bit mixed. For one, I'm actually really pleased with her head as whole. Having never drawn a dragon like this before, and usually having great difficulty with faces that aren't flat, I'm surprised how expressive I managed to make her. It still could be better, but I'd honestly just be happy to always be able to draw expressions like that. The rest of her is where the issues are, starting with her torso looking long. I think that the real issue is that I didn't make her limbs as long as I should have, but the end result is still the same. Beyond that, I have the usual issue of other things occupying the same physical space as her belly. Her legs should be more spread apart, and her arm should be raised more (I did try to make it be so, but I guess I drew the hand at the wrong angle, or something like that). The biggest problem resulting from this is that her belly looks less round because other things are resting flat on it when they shouldn't. It's also probably phasing through the ground a bit.\n\nProbably some of the most interesting light I've ever done, though, even if the end result isn't that special. I guess I did a bright point source with the monster mind piece, too, and probably to stronger effect, but this one at least looks a bit more gracefully executed, I think.\n\nI wanted to make this to boost my morale a bit with another \"nice\" piece after all the recent sketches, and I think it's served that purpose, but working for something on the better part of a month really makes me less interested in it towards the end.
