Think I have an idea for how to balance digital and traditional work. Something really useful about sketches is that they happen a lot faster, meaning that I can practise different things a lot more efficiently (and I certainly need that practice). I think I'll try making one sketch between each stage of the digital pieces I'm working on, which is to say that I made this between the lineart and colour phases of something else I have in the works.
As for that practice... I'm getting there with some things, but there are clearly still some issues to address. The most bothersome is that I couldn't quite get her breasts looking right, which leaves them at a different angle than her belly. I adjust them a ton, too, but it apparently wasn't enough. Most of the issues here have to do with things not occupying the right space, really, like her belly occupying the same location as her legs or her left breast the same as her mouth. I had a feeling the tail would turn out to be an issue with the angle I drew it at, and I was right, though I didn't want to tear up the background as I fixed it (I drew her in her entirety before the background, which has is benefits and drawbacks, including the awkward text placement since I had to draw the background around it). I think the actual anatomical aspects turned out alright enough, on the other hand, even including her face, despite me historically having great difficulty with snouts of any sort (hence my own characters not having them). I also finally managed to give Tanya the bust size she's supposed to have, and I think their shape looks right, but it still ended up having the issues I mentioned earlier. I think I could've avoided a lot of these issues with having her legs spread more and her belly a bit lower, though, to make room for all the different parts of her. It would've also had the bonus of making it a bit more suggestive and making her belly look heavier to her.
Other big issue that really bugs me is that I just can't figure out how to do a good job of digitizing these things. An attempt to mitigate some issues led to others (namely the blurring on the right side, especially problematic for the text), and nothing really got mitigated to begin with. It's thankfully not that big a deal to have this happen to just a playful sketch, though.
I think this is the first time I've really made a full background for a sketch, though I don't know how it turned out. Without colour, it's kind of hard to create the impression of a location if I don't cheat and explicitly add signs or something. This is supposed to be one of those open air changing rooms you'll find at some beaches, but I don't think I managed to communicate it enough.
Lots of other stuff to get to, though, so I shouldn't worry too much about this. Just something to give myself more practice.
