The trails of blood in the temple and the alley left the investigators with the tracks of a carriage, following them back to the inn where they learned the identity of their suspects. A detachment of soldiers was prepared as two investigators rushed to the trading city the fox and bear told the tavern they were from. The positive reputation the fox and his crew made it easy for the investigators to learn where they lived, an encampment outside the city at the bottom of a rocky hill. The investigators returned home, meeting the military unit partway through and escorting them towards the location of the encampment since learning that the suspects were not due to be in town for a couple of days. Scouts carefully closed in on the hill and saw several tents and a pair of carriages parked. Watching them at a distance for the rest of the day, the last of the suspects went into his tent late at night, prompting the soldiers to begin making their way down and surrounding the encampment.\n\nOver a dozen archers hid behind rocks and mounds as the rest of the soldiers waited a short distance out of sight to march in if needed. At the first rays of sunshine emerged, an older hyena in a simple linen robe came out of a tent with a golden-haired hyena behind him wearing the beaded garment priests wore, carrying the body of a jackal over his shoulder. The two hyenas laid out the body on a table and began butchering it as others began to come out of their tents. The fox had a simple robe on like the older hyena and began talking to them as the bear came out of his tent wearing the jewelry of sentries, carrying a pair of severed feet. Handing one to the fox, the pair stood by an empty table chatting and eating the cooked flesh off the ankle, greeting the others as they emerged from their tents.\n\nSeveral archers readied their bows and peeked out of their hiding spots, prompting the rest to do the same. The bear noticed a shadowy figure emerging from a tall rock and squinted his eyes trying to distinguish what it was as he chewed slowly. An arrow struck him in the forehead, snapping his head back as he took a step backwards and tripped over a stool, falling onto the table causing it to tip and keep his body propped upright. The golden-haired hyena got an arrow to the base of his neck, letting out a gurgling scream as the older hyena got struck on the shoulder. Trying to run towards one of the tents, the older hyena got struck by several arrows to the chest and back, falling dead as the fox yelled out “ambush!” before getting hit with an arrow in the stomach. Clutching the arrow in pain, a second arrow struck him higher up his torso, sending him to the ground on his back. As this happened, a white feline was struck on the head and chest as he stood by the entrance of his tents while the last one, a grey wolf, avoided several arrows as he dashed back inside his tent. The archers moved in with their bows drawn as a couple dozen soldiers joined them and surrounded the tent. All archers fired into the tent before spear wielding soldiers began stabbing and slashing it open to discover the wolf on the ground with several arrows stuck on his head and body holding a shield and sword.\n\nThe leading jackal of the unit walked over to the fox and stared at his body with a frown, grabbing his penis and urinating on the fox’s face. Extending his arm out with his bow as he continued to empty his bladder on the fox, a soldier ran up and took the bow from him. Drawing the knife from his leg, the jackal crouched next to the fox and slit the throat open. He moved onto the bear and plunged the knife into the neck, slicing his throat open and wiping the blood off on the bear’s shoulder before sheathing it. With a simple hand gesture everyone began gathering all items of value from the encampment and loading it into the two carriages of the deceased suspects. The bodies of the fox and the bear were loaded into one of the carts along with the 3 jackals, one fully butchered while the other was mostly eaten but for his cooked head and part of his torso. The rest of the deceased criminals had the arrows removed and stripped naked, piled up covered in oil before the leader lit them on fire.
