"description": "So I got one of the cheaper Wacom tablets as an impulse purchase. Been messing around with it for a couple weeks and took a stab at inking and coloring a piece with it. Wordy story/description below per my usual. Fun note on the device mentioned. I came up with the idea a good decade ago, fully designed the mechanism and half assed and exploded view of the components. Did that with a few perilous devices. Not sure why but there ya go.\n---------------------------\nPART 1\n\nWarfare, game shows, and rapid execution of criminals served well for the dystopian society in controlling their population except for periods of little to no warfare. Upping prices in perilous game shows and raising more punishments to death sentences helped but weren't enough.\n\nA big profit for the government is in the selling of organs to their allies, most coming from executed criminals and assassinated targets. Game shows began funneling bodies as well, leading the public on that the deceased are cremated (same as they did with criminals).\n\nUnder the narrative of advancing their medical research, citizens were encouraged to donate their bodies to science. The compensation became a very attractive to larger families with and without financial struggles. The process was a slow one with a small number of donation centers opening up filling up their daily appointment numbers quickly. Donors are given a short interview and sign forms before being ushered into an examination room where their vitals are taken. Undressing for the final part, they relax significantly as the inspection of their joints and spine resemble a deep tissue massage with an adjustment of their spine. Ending with a neck adjustment, the donor's neck is snapped without warning making it a smooth execution with the cooperation of the unknowing donor. Tagging and bagging would follow with the occasional clean-up before the next donor is brought in. Effective, but a slow process that couldn't keep up with the demand.\n\nResearch into a much faster method of processing donors that can be made more widely available quickly found its answer with a device called the Dropless Gallows. The relatively easy to manufacture device is just as easy to install with the heavy and large mechanism simply placed on a room behind the wall of its desired location. 2 locking collars sit on vertical tracks, one smaller one for the neck and another that sits at the shoulders and curves down the upper chest and back. Donors simply stand with their back to the device with the open collars lowering to the appropriate height to be magnetically locked around their neck and shoulders. After inputting the donor's height and weight, when activated the shoulder collar locks into position while a powerful piston shoots up the collar around the neck a measured distance, simulating the effect a noose would have on a long drop hanging.\n\nTests with dummies and corpses proved very successful and a live test was scheduled which ranked officials will be present for to determine the continuation in funding and implementing the device for usage. A male black bear was interviewed from a pool of donors and was selected based on his eagerness to help his government and upbeat personality.\n\nA crowd of officials and cameras gathered in front of a stage where a rotating wall had the device attached to it, slowly rotating as its inventors and engineers explained the mechanics and efficiency of it over any other device or method. Demonstrating how easy and quick the process would be with the Dropless Gallows, they simulate a walk-in donor scenario, bringing out a reception desk and a false door to place on opposite sides of the device. The black bear entered the stage, walking through the door and being greeted by a female fennec fox sitting behind the desk. Stating on his interest in becoming a donor, the fox hands him a single form where the bear signs off on the terms and designates a recipient to his compensation, handing it back to her along with his ID card which she scans and files away.\n\nEscorting him to a scale placed on the stage, she takes his height and weight and has the bear remove one of his shoes, writing up and attaching a toe tag to him before leading him to the device itself. Standing with his back to it, the fennec operates a panel where she inputs the bear's information while the collars automatically lowered and locked into place over his shoulders and around his neck. Stepping back on the stage, the creators briefly interview the bear on his overall comfort level with the bear moving about a bit noting that the collars are snug but not uncomfortable. Noting the user friendly interface of the operational system and that a much smaller operator can easily process anyone of any size and weight due to the automated system. Shifting their attention back to the bear, he is asked if he's ready to which he looks over at the crowd before back at the investors with a wide smile and saying \"let's do this\" with a chuckle.\n\nPART 2\n\nEveryone stepped aside and a spotlight focused on the smiling bear as the rest of the lights dimmed. The fox pressed a button and a single click was heard from the device before the collar around the bear's neck shot up several feet in an instant, ripping the head off the body. A collective gasp filled the room as the bear's head remained attached to the collar with his eyes bulging out, bleeding profusely from his wound. His body stiffened up almost instantly, remaining still for a couple of seconds after the head was separated before it began to shake and waving his arms upward appearing to have a delayed reaction to his decapitation. Taking a wobbly step forward, his knees bent and the body fell forward to the ground twitching for a short time before ceasing movement as engineers gather around the terminal trying to figure out what went wrong.\n\nThe error was quickly found with the fennec at fault having typed in his height inaccurately, leading to his decapitation from the device simulating the drop for a much taller subject. Despite the failure, everyone saw that the device was a far more efficient method, approving it for production but with a few adjustments.\n\nA couple weeks later everyone would meet again at the same stage with an upgraded version of the device unveiled. Highlighting the updates made to improve the previous design, the fennec fox was brought out with her hands cuffed behind her back, standing on a scale installed on the floor to prevent the same error she made from happening in the future. Automating the majority of the process, the collars lowered and locked, measuring her height and instantly becoming ready for activation. With a single button pressed, the Dropless Gallows jerked her head up with a rippling crack of her neckbones separating, rendering her unconscious instantly, passing away shortly after as noted from sensors on the neck collar ceasing to register her vitals.",
