For several weeks a pony had been a recurring demand. The Wolf knew it was impractical but if she (HE! the wolf corrected himself. I’m starting to forget I’m not really a girl!) had to be kept here against his will and treated like a little girl, then she (HE!) may as well make them share his frustration. Lubu his dragon “Daddy” and Snow his pizzly nanny had tried to tell him she was “daddy’s princess” not a royal one, and ponies were for royal princesses.
They entered the dragons office and Loupy saw Lubu standing by his desk, and holding a large pink box, decorated with ribbons and a large bow. The wolf huffed, oh no another frilly dress! he thought.
“Happy birthday princess. Give daddy a kiss, then you can open your gift” the dragon said and lowered his head so she could reach.
Loupy was about to pout until he spied the paddle mounted on the wall behind the desk. It was a constant reminder that disappointing Daddy had consequences. Even Snow had felt its sting on occasion, though nowhere near as many times as himself.
The wolf walked over and gave the dragon a quick peck on the cheek followed by a half hearted “thank you daddy”. Then he took the present, placed it on the desk and began to unwrap what he was sure was another dress.
But the wolf was surprised by what he found inside, it wasn’t some pink frilly dress. Instead he saw an odd black hat, a red jacket that looked formal and yet made of some rugged material, and finally tall black boots – riding boots! Did … did daddy really get me a … a …
Lubu seized the opportunity while his daughter was stunned by her gift. He grabbing Loupy’s dress and pulling it off in one quick motion, leaving the wolf in just a diaper. Loupy’s next shock came when Lubu held up the jacket for her to see. It was a beautiful red with shiny gold buttons, but it wasn’t a regular equestrian jacket. it was a straightjacket designed to look like one.
“Lets see if I got your size right. Don’t fuss, or Mr Paddle will be used for your birthday paddywhacks at your party”.
Loupy gulped and offered no resistance as the jacket was placed on him and cinched tight. “But Daddy how will I hold the reins if I can’t use my hands? How do I balance if I can’t move? I might fall off.”
“no worries about that, you have a special saddle designed to work with your special jacket” he said securing the hat on her head.
“What about pants? Everyone will see my diaper” he carefully asked.
“Silly little princess. Just because you’re not wearing a dress doesn’t mean you have to wear pants. You don’t have to worry about being seen in your diapers. Now more fussing!” Lubu said helping Loupy step into the boots.
“So its true, you really got me a pony!?”, even restrained she couldn’t hide her surprise and excitement.
“No, Daddy’s gift is your ridding outfit. Snow got you the pony. He was very generous and even insisted on paying for it by himself”.
Snow? Either Daddy paid the bear very well or this had cost him dearly. He felt a little bad at how much trouble he gave his nanny. The bears unwavering obedience to the dragon, and lack of resistance to wearing his embarrassing uniform was frustrating to the wolf. He had long given up hope of turning the bear to his side to help him escape. Snow was completely convinced Loupy was here willingly and was just doing his job the best he could.
“OK Princess, Daddy has to take an important call but you go ahead with Nanny to meet your pony. I’ll be there soon”
Snow took hold of Loupy’s elbow. “OK let’s go meet her. I’ll lead you, keep your eyes closed until I tell you”.
“Her, does she have a name?” she asked.
“Not yet, she’s your pony so you get to name her. I hope you like each other. I spared no expense.”
Loupy snuggled into the bear trying to hug him without use of his arms and said “thank you nanny”, With his eyes closed he didn’t see the bears embarrassed and slightly guilty expression.
As Snow lead him to the pony, Loupy felt another pang of remorse at how bratty he often was to Snow. The bears very gentle in nature meant he could push limits much farther than with Daddy. Lost in his thoughts he didn’t pay attention to where he was led until they stopped. They couldn’t be there yet, weren’t they still inside the house?
“Happy birthday Princess. Open your eyes and say hello to your royal steed”
Snow watched Loupy’s expression as he saw her new pony and realized what it was. Seeing the wolfs reaction was worth every penny her gift had cost.
