It was in the bleak December. December 25th to be exact. Anybody can recognize that day. I was about 15 or 16 years old. I wake up to the sound of Christmas music playing. My dad always played 70s and 80s music on the weekends and any other day there wasn't any school. So it wasn't a surprise he was playing the festive songs. I got up and checked my email. Nobody knew I was awake yet. Friends wished me a Merry Christmas. I had already sent them the same thing, so I just kept scrolling. After a while I go downstairs. I hear everyone say "Merry Christmas!" Me being barely awake I didn't say anything, except a small chuckle. I flop myself on the couch and almost fell asleep again. My dad smacked my arm to keep me awake. Everyone was in the living room talking to each other. Nobody was focused on anything other than their conversations. Later we all stopped and got ready for presents. The tree had already been decorated the day before. Everyone got their presents but before I, or anyone else, opened anything I got up to get something out of the pantry. Intending to get a basic granola bar, I find a candle from my brothers 9th birthday which only happened a few weeks ago. I decide to light it and attempt to have it in the center of the table where everyone was. Nobody wanted it and my mom told me to just throw it away. I blew it out and tossed it. I get to the couch and I see my grandma open her present. I didn't expect anything other than a gift card of some sort. It was almost impossible to find something other than a card to get her. Soon it was my turn to open my present, but before I did I went back to the pantry and actually got a granola bar. I look back and I see everyone sitting in the dining room. I was too tired to question anything. I walked over to the couch to see what happened but nobody except the presents were there. I look back in the dining room. Nobody was there, they were back in the living room. I rubbed my eyes in confusion and just went with it. Once everyone got done with their presents I needed to go to the bathroom. I walk in and turn on the lights, but the lights didn't want to cooperate. Spamming the light switch on and off I realized there was a power outage. I was too far away from the TV to hear it wasn't playing anything. Everyone decided to sit around and chat (because why not.) I did what I normally do. Just sit quietly and contemplate on random things only talking when I felt like it or someone said something about or to me. Several hours passed by and It was beginning to get dark. It was the longest power outage i've been in since I was 6. It was about 11:30 and I knew the power wouldn't return anytime soon, so I just decided to go to bed. My grandparents were already dead in their beds for the past 2 hours. I went back to the trash can where I threw away that candle. Just for the fun of it I lit it and took it upstairs. I had the candle lit for a short time but I eventually got rid of it. I got ready for bed and climbed in. I went to sleep and dreamed about being outside. Only outside and nothing more. It was certainly a crowded forest. It was still night and the only company I had in that forest was the occasional chirp of birds and insects. I felt a mosquito land on me. I shook it off, and then I felt about 10 more land on me. I never liked bugs landing on me except butterflies or anything basic and harmless. More and more insects landed on me. I shook harder but none left. I was covered, I flailed wildly to get them off. I look down. I let out a muffled scream. More like a whimper. I didn't see a single bug. I thew myself onto the ground and rolled everywhere. They crawled on me for what felt to be an hour. I couldn't get the damn things off they were swarming me! Then I heard what sounded like a doorbell. All of a sudden the bugs were gone. I sat myself up to see where the bell came from. As soon as I sat up I saw 2 white dots in the distance duck behind a tree. "Hey!" I shouted, hoping it was some sort of help. I looked around me and saw something in my hands, yet I was surrounded in blankets and pillows. I was in my bed. The thing I was holding was gone. I looked at the clock, 4:58 it said. I laid back down and went to sleep. Assuming I had a basic nightmare. This time I didn't dream about anything. I woke up again. Glanced at the clock It said it was 8:25. Yet it was still dark. As in midnight dark. Confused I got up to go to the bathroom. I opened my door and could barely see anything. The only things that lit my room were my clocks and a projector that projected the time on the ceiling. I closed the door, and I was immediately consumed by darkness. I couldn't hear or see anything. I reached to get back into my room. I didn't feel the doorknob. The only thing I could feel, was the ground beneath me. I heard beeping as if in the checkout section in a supermarket with faint voices and carts. I was in there so long I expected my eyes to adjust. I couldn't see a single photon of light. All I could sense was the smell of burnt steak. The only thing I could see... my hands. Not my feet, just my hands and arms. And they were perfectly lit, casting no shadows. There wasn't any light source, but then I noticed my whole body was illuminated. And with it, I could see about 1 meter in front of me. What was this aura that followed me? Whatever it was, it was giving me light and I didn't want to walk in complete darkness. I looked up. I was inside some sort of concrete tunnel. As if I was in a catacomb. Yet, there weren't any skulls or bones. I was getting nervous about where I was. The passages were the size of a normal door frame but slightly wider. I was tremendously claustrophobic and I did NOT want to stay here, but the only out. Was to find an exit. It was quiet, I could almost hear a heartbeat behind me I was so scared. Anything could find me with my aura of light but I wouldn't be able to find a way out. I couldn't see the things coming, but they could see me. That thought alone made my heart race. Although I didn't breathe fast. My heart was going insane but my breath. It was perfectly calm. Walking through the tunnels I found a 4 way passage. I thought I was going to be here for an eternity. Making guesses with no hints other than the ground with random puddles of water. Where did the water come from? I shook that thought away. It didn't matter. I decided to choose right. Because throughout school I always said "Right is always Right" even though I barely followed that rule. I heard something. The low growl of a dog. More like a wolf. Its voice was deep and distant. I prayed it didn't see me. I turn around. It was right behind me! I sprinted faster than I think I have ever before. What felt to be about 30 miles an hour. That wolf didn't move. It, chasing me, was still behind me yet it never got closer. Running and running I take random turns not even attempting to take my mind of the wolf to think about the passages. I turned back. The wolf was gone. How the hell it survived down here is beyond me. I kept walking. When I stopped I came to a 2 way passage. Either right or left. My mind was still numb from the wolf and the fact that I was still stuck in these damn tunnels. My heart was beating so fast it almost hurt. My hands were shaking immensely, My legs were weak. I decided to choose left this time. I walked down that single hallway for about a minute or two I saw what looked to be an exit. It was still night but I didn't care, I wanted out of there. I sprinted again as if being chased by the wolf again. I reached the exit. Outside I stared back into the huge abyss. Not daring to go back in. I wasn't too far from my house about a 7-second run. My house. It looked as if the Earth had attempted to swallow it. A layer of grass was covering it like a blanket, but the back door was still accessible. I ran to my house. I got to the back door. I rushed inside and slammed the door behind me. The thought of the wolf entered my mind. Its hellish eyes and its shadowy face taunted me. I still had that aura of light but it was slightly smaller. I walked to my kitchen to turn on the lights. While at the same time thinking how I could seal that catacomb tunnel. I turned the light on and was freaked out by a skull right in front of me on the kitchen counter. I thought to my self "It must just be a Halloween decoration I forgot to put up."
