Thieves Chapter 7 - Feeling Good It was still somewhat bright outside, when Sis and Jack decided to go to sleep. They'd start their trip in the middle of the night and probably wouldn't reach their destination before the night after that, so it was going to be a fucking long day. "We'll be starting right off," Jack said while he started to disrobe for the night, "Then eat some breakfast on the trail, at sunrise. At half way we might do a longer pause and then walk straight through 'til we're there to set up a fire and get something warm inside us." Sis nodded at that and went for Jacks backpack, to get ready for the night. "We don't have masses of food with us," Jack continued, "but if we ration it we should easily make it to Kononoano." Jack was already lying in bed as the fox spread out the blanket on the floor. "Ya going to sleep on the floor again?" the human asked looking at his roommate, "It'll get damn cold tonight." "Well, what am I supposed to do?" Sis countered folding the blanket over. "How about you come in here," he gave a tap on the covers of the bed, "you don't need to be so restrained." Sis considered that only for a moment before the incident from last night came to his mind. It would be a welcoming change to sleep in a warm place for once, even the proximity to Jack didn't worry him. He'd been living on a small area, with literally no privacy, with dozens of other slaves, male and female. But he didn't want to get into a situation, like last night, with the human again. "I'd rather not," the fox answered and laid himself onto the blanket. "Don't hold back," Jack said leaning on his elbow, "It's really getting cold tonight. Come on in here. We can't risk you getting a cold. That'd slow us down, and it's not gonna get any warmer soon." The floor felt already cold, even through the double-folded blanket. And it wasn't even completely dark yet. He was right, thought the fox, if he'd get sick that'd slow them down immensely. And if the guards caught up on them, he'd be defenseless. Or he could just die in the winter. At least he's sober tonight, thought Sis as he got up from the floor. "Fine," he gave in and went, the blanket slung over his shoulders, for the bed. Jack lifted the covers for him and the small fox wrapped himself in the woolen blanket before he slipped under the sheets. That way he wouldn't get into contact with the human. As the thick bed cover settled down over him, and kept the warmth from disappearing through the thin blanket, he had slept in the night before, he almost regretted on having slept on the floor last night. The warmth that was held by the soft bed, accompanied by the heat emitted by Jack, was a comfortable sensation. It left the fox to think, that this might not have been a bad idea. And it lasted for quite a while, as silence lingered between them two, until Jack spoke again. The human rolled to his side, "My offer from last night still stands, ya know?"
