"writing": "The enemy males moved in cautiously towards Amri, Ni, Asani and Kopa. Hakima stood tall aside the girls who were huddled together closely. Saeska had found her tears now; she didn’t like seeing her father standing down other lions, especially outnumbered. A couple tried to flank them but to no avail, Ni and Amri’s growls and sharp movements kept them face to face. Hakima slowly approached taking to Amri’s side. One of the males snarled at her then laughed. \n“Making your lioness’s fight for you, cowards?” He mocked. \n“No matter what the outcome, this male is bound to me. If you take his life, I will join the fray. I will not stop until I kill you in return, but I will not fight right now.” Hakima stated firmly. The large males scoffed as she backed off. \n“Fine, keep your old hag.” He spat addressing Amri.\n“Leave now, and you might walk away with only a few scratches.” Asani announced provoking the pride. Kopa looked the group of lions over; the large male had a dark brown mane and seemed to never blink. His eyes were always wide open, as if watching for any one of them to make a move. Three others were about average build, one strangely a vivid image of Ni. The last was very young; there was no doubt about that. Hardly into adolescents, his mane was thin and barely concealed his neck. This was no doubt the target Kopa would have to go for first.\n“Tell you what, you four walk away, and I promise not to take your females, for a day or so.” He laughed. \n“Ha! No female could become pregnant from your piss seed. You need four other lions to fight your battles for you, pussy! What a pathetic excuse of a lion you are.” Asani ridiculed. Two of the other males began honing in on Asani, he smiled and riled himself up. “What’s the matter boys? Can’t handle the fact your leader can’t fuck a lioness so he has to use you?” He continued. Kopa smiled as his excitement for the coming fight grew. He knew Asani was mocking them to get them to focus on him; no doubt he had the mouth for it.\n“Let’s see how much mouth you have when I rip your jaw from your face!” The big one threatened. \n“You know the way, carry enough respect to challenge properly scum!” Amri beckoned. \n“Fine!” The big one shouted. “I am Ezeamaka! And I challenge you!” \n“I am Haidar!” Another shouted facing Asani. “And I challenge you!” \n“My name is Kamili, and I challenge you!” \n“Kondo, bring your worst, I challenge you.” \n“I am Nathari, and I challenge you.” The young one proclaimed. \n“I am Amri! I accept!” \n“I am Ni, and I accept!” \n“Asani, and I accept!” \n“I am Kopa, and I accept your challenge!” \n“Take it bitches!” Asani shouted as he charged in bowling Kondo and Haidar over, the enemy pride charged in after Amri and Ni. The fangs and claws flashed as they joined the fray, it was all a blur at first to Kopa until he saw his target, the young one Nathari was ready for him as well. They paired off and began circling, leaping the young one tried to get atop of Kopa. He bounded onto his hind legs and overshadowed the young lion, coming down hard. He had his weight down on him but his claws were free, catching his cheek Kopa backed off and gave it a quick pat. He barely grazed the flesh, but he knew it would bleed. The young one came back swinging again; Kopa let his eyes rest at his chest and watched, deflecting the blows coming to him. They were fairly week, no doubt due to his youth. Kopa caught one of his lazier swings and swept the young lion to the ground. He didn’t hesitate; leaping onto his body his fangs found flesh around his throat and dug in. Nathari squealed in pain as he tried desperately to kick Kopa off of him, but to no avail. \n“I give! Stop! Please!” He barely eked out. Kopa released him and allowed him to get up and back off. Nathari hacked and coughed as he barely managed to keep himself standing. Asani was managing Kondo and Haidar quite well, Haidar charged him and Asani caught him, hoisting him up he hurled him up into the air, slamming him to the ground. Kondo tried to catch him from behind but Asani turned with an enormous swing, the blow hit with an audible crack across his face as the lions head snapped back, he fell to the ground. Shaking out his paw Asani gave a quick laugh as he noticed Kopa joining him. \n“Bout time!” Asani called out. \n“Was busy.” Kopa replied with a smile. Kopa paired himself with Haidar letting Asani continue his work on Kondo. As he rose up Haidar met him face to face growling as his eyes locked on his. \n“Are you ready to die this day, scarred one?!” Haidar mocked.\n“I don’t fear death! I have faced it! Ripped it with my claws, now taste them!” He shouted charging him. Haidar wrestled Kopa up onto his hind legs. Taking quick bites they tried to throw one another off balance and onto the ground. Kopa couldn’t keep his footing though, ending up with Haidar right on top of him. He snapped over and over trying to keep his jaws away from his throat, but Haidar was winning over. As he made his lunge for Kopa’s throat Haidar was tackled and knocked down. Asani quickly grabbed Kopa and pulled him up. \n“Come on, after him! Go Scars!” He encouraged. Kopa didn’t waste the chance; he rushed in to resume the fight with Haidar. \nNi was fighting well against Kamili. Though he was greater in size to Ni, his combat ability was abysmal. Ni dodged every swing with ease, slapping and cutting Kamili back after throwing about his careless blows. Ni placed his wounds carefully on him, cutting short small gashes across the forehead, forcing small streams of blood to pour into his eyes. As the fight went on, it was becoming too hard for Kamili to even see Ni, let alone get any kind of muscle in on him. Ni saw that Kopa was now facing off against the other male and Asani had slammed his opponent hard onto the ground, taunting him. Ni was very much toying with his challenger, unimpressed with his lack of coordination. It didn’t take long for him to knock Kamili to the ground and meet him face to face. \n“You done?” Ni asked sternly. Kamili closed his eyes and moaned wiping away at the blood tearing in his eyes. \n“I can’t do this, I’ll stop.” He whined. \nComing in swinging Kopa struck as hard as he could against Haidar. Each paw slamming on his shoulders and arms until finally he caught a good shot across Haidar’s face. Infuriated Haidar cracked back, catching Kopa across his. Haidar shot again hard on his head then once again across his face. He could see the stars from the blows ringing through his head. Roaring Kopa threw himself at him; Haidar forced him up once more. He knew he was in trouble; Haidar had the balance and the force to bring him down and end the fight. Something rose within Kopa though, as if instinct was telling him to fall back. Believing no choice but to trust it, he fell backwards and kicked his feet into Haidar’s belly as he rolled. Kicking out hard, he flung the body over him flipping in the process. Kopa could hardly believe he was now atop of Haidar. Darting in he grabbed the throat and held tight. Haidar kicked and screamed as Kopa clenched his neck in his jaws. Asani turned his attention to Kopa’s battle, believing Kondo down from a blow during their fight. He smiled, almost proud of Kopa’s efforts, he had him pinned. If Haidar didn’t relent, he was going to die. Kopa continued to weigh down and choke Haidar in his jaws. He refused to surrender; he didn’t stop fighting until the taste of blood flooded Kopa’s mouth. Slowly the kicking stopped; Haidar’s eyes gazed up to the sky gasping once more, before falling to death in Kopa’s jaws.\nKopa released him, spitting up the blood that had pooled. He was trembling; he had really killed him in battle. Asani smiled and nodded proudly. \n“Well done Sca-“ He shouted as he was cut off. Asani felt the rake of claws, dig deep along his thighs. Gasping, he slowly turned to see Kondo behind him. He stood there, smiling, blood dripping down his nose as he shook his head.\n“Say something now, smart ass.” He mocked. Asani knew he was wounded badly. \n“Asani!” Kopa cried, rushing to his aid. Kondo jumped onto Asani’s back and pinned him down; he could feel Kondo’s claws dig into his flesh once again. “No!” Kopa screamed as he struck Kondo hard on the nose. Kondo screamed in agony, he was already injured from Asani’s previous blows. “Ni! Help!” Kopa screamed as he tried to cover up the blood from Asani’s wounds. Ni having finished rushed over to their side. \n“No! Asani, are you alright?” He pleaded. \n“He caught me. I can’t believe he caught me.” Asani whispered. Kondo now back on his feet was met by an enraged Ni. Bellowing he began snapping hard blows all over Kondo’s face and arms. The barrage forced him to try to wrestle Ni onto his hind legs. Ni leapt up, and in one fell swoop grabbed his muzzle and forced his head back exposing his neck. Ni cleaved his throat and threw him to the ground. Kondo choked and gasped as the blood poured into the dirt. Within seconds his body shuddered, glazing his eyes as he died. \nAmri was still in heated battle with Ezeamaka. The large hefty lion was a good challenge for Amri. Both had suffered cuts and scrapes along their body from the fight. Circling each other they huffed and puffed, careful not to give away any hints of their attack. Amri burst in, throwing a few quick blows but Ezeamaka deflected them. Picking Amri up he tried to get him pinned down, but pushing his paws aside, Amri quickly broke the hold and caught Ezeamaka’s cheek on the way down. There clashes were swift, precise and taxed there stamina. They were both exhausted, but the question was who would cave first. Ezeamaka charged in, but Amri caught his head in his paws. Spinning he forced him onto his back but he quickly recovered. Rising up he took a hard swing for Amri who met his swing with his own. Their paws clapped hard, each of them withdrawing from the blow and shaking out there paws. Amri was certain no one could get the better of the other, this was a stalemate due his challengers impressive skill. Ni and Kopa rushed over to join Amri. Ezeamaka looked in shock at the two. They had him flanked at either side, leaving only one route to escape. \n“Give up!” Ni demanded. \n“Or we’ll put you down.” Added Kopa. Ezeamaka turned around and realized the carnage. Nathari was cowering alongside Kamili, bathing the wounds on his face. He saw Kondo, and Haidar on the ground dead and growled turning back to Amri.\n“I want a piece of you! Just you!” He demanded. \n“I cannot best you, but neither can you defeat me. This fight came down to our prides, and you have lost.” Amri stated. Ezeamaka roared in anger, Ni and Kopa replied with their own, closing the gap and forcing him back. Realizing he had no where left to go, he submitted. \n“Keep your useless fucking hag and scrawny females, we’ll find something worth taking!” He barked running towards the others. “Get up! Go!” He shouted at the others, leading them away towards the stream. The three took a sigh of relief watching them go, they had done it, and the pride was there’s once again. Asani slowly made his way over to them, cringing in pain with each step. \n“Geez Asani no! Get back on the ground now!” Ni demanded. \n“What? What’s happened?” Amri asked urgently. Rushing over to Asani he looked upon his hind legs and cringed. “Oh no.” The damage was grotesquely visible now, blood was pouring from the wounds. Flesh hung from the edges of the cuts as even bone was faintly exposed beneath. \n“I’ll be fine.” He huffed trying to get up. Amri swung his head under Asani’s arm, trying to get him onto his back. “What are you?” \n“You’re in no condition to walk at the moment boy. Those need to be looked after, and now. And stop moving your legs!” He demanded. Asani was in no mood to argue. He was so ashamed of himself, he knew better then to turn your back on an opponent, even if they are down. As Amri hoisted him up, he brought him over to Hakima’s side. Kinu, Keyah and Saeska were still in shock from the battle, the smell of blood had filled the air, mainly from the two dead lions still on the ground. Asani cried out as Amri gently lowered him back down. \n“Easy now, easy.” Ni guided, helping Asani back to the ground. Kopa took a spot right next to him; he couldn’t stop staring at Asani’s face. He’d known him for a long time, but to see him in this kind of agony was strange. Tears were coming down Asani’s cheek, but he didn’t whimper or cry. \n“You’re going to be alright.” Kopa said, patting Asani’s paw. Hakima grabbed his first hind leg and began cleaning. Asani slammed the ground as her tongue made contact and roared. Amri darted down and grabbed his head, pulling it close to his. \n“Easy kido, come on she has to clean it up.” \n“Is there anything I can do? Maybe find something to cover the wounds up?” Kopa pleaded. \n“Not right now no. There wounded but those lions may still be nearby. If they find you alone you’re as good as dead. Here.” Amri ordered, Kopa rushed to his side as he guided him back down, right next to Asani. \n“Boy, put your weight on Kopa’s leg. Press hard, we have to stop the bleeding.” Asani slowly complied, leaning the weight of his other wounded leg on Kopa’s. Asani shuddered again in pain as the pressure built.\n“It’s alright Asani, I got ya.” Kopa comforted. Asani gave a few more grunts and moans before he began taking deep breaths to calm himself down. Amri stroked his mane, encouraging this. \n“Good job kido, good job. You’re going to be fine now.” He said still patting him. Saeska, Keyah and Kinu were still shuddering from the fight. Saeska in particular was horrified at the sight of Asani’s wounds, the blood streaming to the ground and the sounds he made as he was being cleaned. She could feel the rake on her thighs, it made her shudder. Ni went over to them; he could see the distress in their eyes. Settling down alongside them he spoke softly. \n“Hey, how are you guys holding up?”\n“Is he going to be ok?” Saeska asked nervously. Ni took a deep breath, nodding his head he answered. \n“Yeah, he should be. Those are some bloody nasty cuts but, Kopa recovered from worse, I think Asani will be just fine. But he’s gonna be hurtin, a good while I’d say.”\n“I almost feel sorry for him, except I heard him running his mouth out there. How careless can you be?” Kinu quipped. \n“Quiet! Asani provoked those lions to keep them on him and off Kopa.” Ni quickly scolded. \n“Kopa can handle himself, can’t he?” Keyah asked. \n“He proved that today yes, but this was his first real takeover attempt. I wouldn’t want anyone going into their first fight two on one.”\n“Still, I’m so proud of him. He’s taking care of Asani, and he spared that young one.” Keyah said, swooning over him.\n“Yeah that was impressive.” Kinu added. “I’m surprised he handled the big one so well, did you see him flip the guy over?” \n“Oh my gosh, it was so amazing! I didn’t know he could do that!” Keyah exclaimed giggling to her sister. \n“We should go over and thank Asani.” Saeska perked up. The other two looked at her confused. \n“Seriously?” Kinu asked in disbelief. Saeska mocked Kinu’s face. \n“Yes, seriously!” She retorted. “He saved Kopa during the fight, and he took on two at once. Now, he’s in a lot of pain. Without him, all of them, who knows where or what would be happening to us right now.” Keyah nodded in agreement. \n“You’re right Saeska, I’ll head over now. Wanna come?” \n“Yep!” She happily replied getting up. As they headed for Asani, they looked back at Kinu still lying on the ground. Saeska gave her a firm glare and waited to see if she would get up. Kinu turned shyly to Ni and laughed at herself, embarrassed. \n“Guilted in by the kid sister, harsh huh?” \n“The kid sister is right though.” Ni replied sternly. \n“I know, I’m sorry. Be right there!” Kinu called out, rushing up to join them. Saeska was the first to approach, Asani didn’t notice. His head hanging down he was trying to take his mind off the pain of being cleaned. \n“Hey, Asani?” She called softly. Looking up he met her eyes, cringing in pain. Saeska threw her paws around him and held tight. Asani was shocked by her affections. \n“Wha, what are you?” He stammered. Saeska kissed his cheek and smiled. \n“Thanks for fighting for us today.” She praised. \n“Uh, you’re welcome.” He replied, uneasily. Keyah took her turn now. Wrapping a paw around him she giggled. \n“Thanks for saving my boyfriend.” Asani chuckled himself now. \n“Oh yeah, guess I did do that huh, my bad.” He joked. Keyah shook her head laughing. \n“Still a pig aren’t you?” She asked with a smile. \n“Well, it’s a reputation worth keeping.” She laughed again and kissed his head, turning her attention to Kopa she started cuddling with him. Asani looked to Kinu, who was approaching slowly. \n“Let me guess, don’t want to touch me cause I’m a male?” He asked. Kinu rolled her eyes and leaned in, stealing a hug from him. \n“Thank you.” She whispered. \n“Tell you what, you take care of Ni, and that’s all the thanks you need to give me.” He suggested. Kinu avoided the comment by quickly walking away. Saeska snuck over to her father who was bathing his minor cuts and scrapes. Creeping in she swung under his paw and leaned into his chest. \n“Daddy.” She moaned. Amri chuckled pulling her close. \n“What is it sweet heart?” \n“Thank you.” \n“Oh come here.” He laughed, wrapping her up even tighter. “You’re welcome baby, you’re my little girl, no one’s going to take you away from me.” \n“Love you daddy.” She softly cried into his mane. \n“I love you too baby.”\n\nAs dark came, Kopa was finally released from his duty as Asani’s bandage. Blood soaking his fur, he was asked by Amri and Ni to follow them. They walked over to the bodies of Haidar and Kondo that still remained on the ground from the battle. The smell of blood was still very fresh in the air, partly from their bodies and partly from the blood on Kopa’s thigh.\n“Sad, isn’t it.” Ni sighed. Kopa turned and looked to him. \n“What do you mean?” He asked. \n“They didn’t even come back for their own.” Ni explained. Kopa nodded and bowed his head. He stood before Haidar’s body, the one that he killed. The guilt of killing him began to creep up on him. He didn’t want to take his life, he just wanted to defeat him. To protect Keyah and the girls in the pride, he felt horrible about it. \n“Eating at you, isn’t it Kopa?” Amri asked, breaking his train of thought. \n“I didn’t, want to kill him.” \n“I know, that’s why you’re going to dig, right here right now.” Amri stated calmly. \n“Me to Kopa, don’t worry. Just follow my lead.” Ni added. Ni began digging up the dirt before Kondo’s body. Kopa followed suit, pulling up more and more earth. His body was already sore from the fight, digging the hole was taxing what little he had left. Amri sat and watched as the two worked away, Kopa looked up to him now and then before resuming his task. \n“I can’t help you with this boy.” Amri announced. “He fell in your jaws, now you must put him to rest properly.” Kopa nodded and continued to dig. As they finished Ni carefully placed Kondo’s body within the shallow earth. He had dug just deep enough to seclude his body below the soil, Kopa had done a similar job as well. Replacing the earth they had mounded, they covered the bodies of their fallen opponents leaving only a small mound remaining. Ni sat before the mound and closed his eyes. \n“Spirit of Kondo, I call upon thee. You fought with great honor, but fell before me. My soul cannot rest without payment to you. Your body to rest, my tribute to you. This mound that I raise, earth pulled with my paws. To conceal your body, fangs and claws. May the suns warm descent, bring an end to your strife. With my blessing find peace, in the circle of life.” \nNi kept his eyes closed, a few moments longer mourning the loss of Kondo’s life. \n“Wow, that was amazing. Is this what I should say?” Kopa asked. Amri nodded and walked over to his side. Kopa enclosed the last parts of Haidar’s body and took a similar position before him. “I don’t know if I remember all the words.” \n“I’ll help you through it, just repeat after me.”\n“Spirit of Haidar, I call upon thee. You fought with great honor, but fell before me. My soul cannot rest without payment to you. Your body to rest, my tribute to you. This mound that I raise, earth pulled with my paws. To conceal your body, fangs and claws. May the suns warm descent, bring an end to your strife. With my blessing find peace, in the circle of life.”\nKopa kept his eyes closed as well. The work of burying his body, and the words he offered did help. As if some pain that tore at him after he killed him, was beginning to loosen its grip. \n“The shock, of your first kill Kopa. Will last a long time. But it will pass, you have done all you could to honor the memory of one you defeated. Remember that, and know that Haidar knows this as well.” Amri lectured. Kopa opened his eyes and looked to Ni. He had placed his paw on the head of his mound. Shuddering he released and shook his head. Opening his eyes he walked passed Kopa and Amri. \n“Never get used to that.” \n“Huh?” Kopa asked. Amri turned Kopa’s attention back to the mound. \n“Close your eyes, place your paw where you buried his head.” Amri instructed. Kopa closed his eyes once more and slowly lowered his hand to the mound. As he touched he felt a cold shock run up his spine. An unknown feeling gripped his entire body as He could hear a boom in his ears like lightning had struck nearby within an instant. As the echo faded, a soft voice could be heard whispering in his ear. \n“Thank you.” \nKopa’s heart was racing, he trembled at the words. \n“Easy kido.” Amri comforted, patting his back. \n“W-w-what was t-t-that.”\n“What did you hear?”\n“It said, t-thank y-you.” He stammered. Amri chuckled continuing to pat his back. \n“That, would be Haidar. It seems he accepted your tribute to him.”\n“That’s impossible! He’s dead!” Kopa cried out. Amri settled him back down and explained. \n“His spirit still lingered, he died in the heat of battle, struggling and fighting against you. You took his life, felt his blood in your jaws. You had the strongest tie to him in his final moments. Putting him to rest, honoring his bravery you settled your debt to his spirit. And so, he touched you one last time before at last finding peace in death.”\n“It’s so strange. I thought spirits and everything were just stories.” Kopa argued. \n“Stories are often exaggerated tales of the truth Kopa. Spirits aren’t constantly circling you, guiding your fate, telling you what to do. But, when moments become dire, and your bond is strong enough. The spirit can touch you, if only for a moment. This might be the second time such a thing has happened to you.” Amri explained. Kopa looked to him confused. \n“What do you mean? I’ve never heard voices like that before.” \n“What spirit touched your heart? Forcing it to beat once more after you perished at the claws of that lioness, I wonder?” Amri countered. Kopa felt a chill run up his spine. He couldn’t explain it; he wasn’t sure how he survived it either. But a question came to him, one he felt compelled to ask Amri. \n“Amri. How did you know I died that day? You said you found me, wondering the savannah after the fight?” \n“Ahh, it dawns on him at last!” Amri giggled. “Are you certain you are ready to know this?” Kopa nodded and lay down across from Amri. He settled as well as he began to retell the tale to Kopa, of the events of that day. “So, on this fine evening just a couple of years ago I was monitoring the movements of the game within a new territory we had taken, apparently just within a kingdom known as the Pridelands. When I had noticed this, I was happy to move on, the last thing we needed at the time was a kingdoms worth of lions hunting us down and kicking us out in force. As I readied to depart, I came across you. A wondering bloodied husk, barely walking as you groaned and cried stumbling through the grass. I rushed over to you, bombarded you with questions before guiding you onto my back. As I carried you, my heart told me the horrific truth that the effort in saving you was pointless. No bathing or press could keep you with us, the best I could do was keep you comfortable until the inevitable. Until chance came, the strangest of creatures approached me. At first I stood at your defense but, he spoke of you fondly, and pleaded to help. He said he could heal you enough to give you a real shot at survival.” \n“Who was it?” Kopa interrupted. \n“He never gave his name. I followed him to a tree, he took you up and I climbed up to observe. He cleaned the wounds with water and the strangest pastes, fed you fruit juices and small pieces of very strange meats. They seemed saturated in blood and other odd juices, with smells I would love to forget. He bundled you in leaves after, fastened with vines and gave you to me. He asked me to take you somewhere safe, that the one who did this to you was relentless and would find you again to finish the job. Assuming of course, she had not already succeeded. At first I refused, I told him to take the cub to his family but, he said your father had already found you, and you had died in his arms. He did not know how you found a way to me alive. But your home was no refuge for you; the lioness would find you and would not stop until you were dead. But with me, she would never find you. With me she would believe the job done, and that you would be safe with my pride. I agreed, and have not yet regretted it since.” Kopa smiled, his eyes starting to tear. \n“You took me in, saved me from death and raised me as your own.”\n“And now, a decision must be made.” Amri announced softly. Kopa’s eyes lit up, was it really time? “Soon, I will speak with Ni and Asani. Once of course he is a bit more stable, not screaming his lungs out in pain and whatnot.” \n“Yeah, I understand. Glad he helped me out today.” Kopa added. \n“I’m sure he is just as grateful to you for saving him, and for caring for him as well. This is a family Kopa, one that you’re part of, always have been. Never forget that.” He stated patting Kopa’s head. \n“Never.” He agreed rising up. \n\nAs the next day arrived, much of the clean up from the battle had been managed. Asani had to suffer with regular bathings to help clean his wounds and prevent infection while Kopa eagerly awaited a decision regarding his fate in the pride. Lying alongside his love, Kopa relaxed and enjoyed the fruits of his victory, kissing and cuddling with Keyah. Kinu and Ni were relaxing as well, having somewhat reconciled the previous day’s events. Ni was unimpressed with the fact Kinu was unappreciative of Asani’s efforts. Having worked it out, they talked now of things to come next. The wet season was approaching and soon they would have to move again. She as usual, was not keen on the idea but found it easier to swallow now that she had found an interest in Ni. Kopa and Keyah found their way over to Asani, currently being bathed once again.\n“Well, if it isn’t the hero of day huh?” Asani announced as they arrived. Kopa laughed it off and lay down before him. \n“What’s up Asani?”\n“Stuck looking like you used to, lying on my ass not doing a damn thing.” \n“I see that.” Kopa replied. Keyah reached out and pat his paw. \n“Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll be back to being a pain in our ass soon.” She joked. \n“Funny honey. But I can’t believe how bad I fucked up.” He retorted. Hakima gave him a gentle swat for his language and resumed bathing. \n“What do you mean?” Kopa asked. \n“I let him get me from behind. I never should have let that happen, I got so distracted by you killing the big guy that I ignored my own opponent.”\n“Hey now, we still won.” He encouraged. \n“Yeah! You saved us from those five jerks!” Keyah agreed. \n“But it should have been cleaner.” Asani argued shaking his head. “Bah! I’ll have to get my focus on. Get some training in myself, focus a little less on Kopa.” \n“Well if you need any help, sparring partner or whatever you know who to ask.” Kopa offered. Asani laughed and nodded. \n“Oh believe me I’ll take every chance I can get to kick your tail.” He agreed. Keyah covered her mouth as she seemed helplessly giggling. Kopa slowly turned to her, curious as to what was causing her fit. \n“What?” he asked. \n“Asani called you Kopa.” She informed him, still covering her mouth and giggling. Kopa thought on what he said for a moment and was shocked. He really did call him Kopa. \n“Yeah, he did!” He announced. \n“Oh no way!” Asani mockingly shouted. “Jeez, what did you expect? What did I keep saying to you kid when you got of age, huh? You do something of value around here, and I’ll give you some respect.” He reiterated. \n“Thanks Asani.” Kopa bowed. Asani shook his head.\n“No, you don’t thank me. I saved you during the fight, you saved my ass. You trained; you’ve hunted with the girls. You’ve lived up to your end of the deal. I don’t back down on my word.” He explained. Kopa extended his paw to Asani, smiling he met it with a solid clap. “Don’t go thinking I’m gonna go soft on you though, you’re still a pussy till we whip you into shape.” \n“I’d expect nothing less.” He accepted happily. Keyah leaned in, whispering softly into Kopa’s ear. \n“Hey, can we go somewhere quiet?” turning to her ear he asked.\n“What did you have in mind?” \n“I want to give you your reward for protecting us.” She replied with a smile. Kopa chuckled and nodded. \n“Asani, If you’ll excuse us.”\n“If you say so.” Keyah and Kopa quickly darted off. They stayed nearby but found a comfortable spot to rest alongside a large tree and soft patch of grass. Keyah flung herself into Kopa’s arms and began kissing him over and over. Eventually he settled her down and caressed her lips with long slow kisses, stoping only to catch their breath. Keyah lowered him down onto the ground, straddling him and constantly staying locked to him. Rubbing her body’s length along his, she pulled him close refusing to break her lock. Eventually a need for air won over though and she released. \n“Wow!” Kopa gasped. Keyah started licking along his chest, burying her muzzle into his mane. She was purring loudly as usual, her vibrating chest was pressing hard against his belly. \n“Kopa!” She moaned. “I need you, and I need you now!” Slamming his eyes shut he cringed. He wanted her to, so badly. But he knew; the decision hadn’t been made yet. \n“I need you to. But we just can’t yet.” \n“No!” She protested, leaning hard into his chest. “No I won’t wait through another. I just can’t! I’m coming into heat again Kopa, please I have to have you!” She cried. He had a feeling she was. Her familiar scents were coming to him again; it was beginning to stir his desires within as well. But he had to suppress it, he had done so before. \n“I just, I don’t know what to do. I can’t do anything until-“\n“Until what?” Hakima interrupted. Keyah shot up and jumped off Kopa. He turned to her in surprised and hung his head. \n“Until they decide.” He finished. \n“Hmm.” Hakima pondered. Walking over to Keyah she forced her up and gave a good whiff of her backside. “I see.” She whispered. “Come.” Walking ahead for a bit she looked back to see them standing, but not moving. “I will not ask again!” Keyah and Kopa rushed to her side and followed her. Hakima lead them near the game trail, a fair distance from the pride and settled them down. Picking up a rock she tossed it, slamming against another large rock nearby. “That’s your signal.” She stated. \n“Signal for what?” Kopa asked. \n“When you hear the rock smash the other, dismount and return to me.” \n“You’re going to let us? I mean, what about-“\n“Amri is waiting on Asani’s health to decide, but it is not fair to make one of my lionesses wait through another heat when her mate has proven worthy. You will let me handle Amri if he decides to speak of this. In the end though, who mates with my girls, is my decision.” She stated firmly. Keyah lunged at her and hugged her tight. \n“Thank you greatmother. Thank you soo so much!” She cried. Hakima chuckled and gently guided her toward Kopa. \n“I will take to the hill just up ahead. No reason for me to hear this huffing and puffing. When you hear the rock though, be ready to dismount Kopa. I don’t care if you are about to go or not, you hear it you get off understand?” \n“Got it.” They agreed. Hakima smiled and wondered off toward the hill over shadowing the trail. Settling down she gave them her back, watching her pride off in the distance. \n“Now, where were we?” Keyah asked, waving her hips back and forth suggestively to him. Kopa was so excited, it was finally time. He was trembling as he approached, her scent wasn’t strong but it was without a doubt there. Keyah flung onto her back, her hind paws strewn off to either side, exposing all of her body to him. His excitment grew more and more from her enticement, the afternoon was their's. They took it for there own, Kopa fulfilled his desires and took Keyah as his mate. \n\nLooking down at her body, he smiled. He had really done it, he had taken her truly as a mate. As the roll of a rock became audible behind him it struck a rock catching his attention. He snapped to Hakima atop the hill who was now standing tall. Kopa rushed to Keyah’s side and encouraged her up. \n“Come on, up, that’s the signal.” He insisted. Keyah rolled over swiftly and rose up as well, rushing over to Hakima’s side. They could see what stirred her attention. Ni was approaching, and not far off. Kopa sat down aside Keyah and Hakima. \n“If he asks, you were doing your usual, cuddling kissing etcetera. Keyah, you keep that tail end on the ground.” Hakima whispered. \n“Hey Kopa!” Ni called out. \n“What’s up Ni?” He hollered back. \n“Want to help me move Asani to the river? He’s been whining about no water for a bit now.” He asked. Kopa hesitated a moment before replying. Hakima glanced to him, realizing he might still be bathed in suspicious scents. \n“I will help you Ni.” Hakima called rising up. \n“You sure?” \n“I’ve hauled wild beasts weighing much more than him, I’m certain I can handle it.” She insisted. \n“Alright, let’s go.” Ni agreed. \n“You two, behave now. No funny business.” She ordered. As Hakima approached she met Ni who was smiling at her comment. \n“Funny business huh, why are you taking them all the way over there to “cuddle” anyway? They’ve done it plenty of times around the others.” He asked boldly. \n“Because it is inappropriate around Asani in his condition and to the mood over the pride right now. If they wish to dote, so be it but there’s no reason for Asani who is in agony to be subjected to that. He was quite fond of Keyah at one time.” She explained. \n“Ahh, I see. Cause by the look of it, it seemed like you were sneaking them off to-“ \n“Bite your tongue Ni; I praise you for your intelligence do, not force me to question that.” She quickly snapped. \n“Sorry, Greatmother.” He quickly apologized.\n\nAs the days went on, Hakima continued to sneak Kopa and Keyah away for short times. She found reasonable arguments and excuses for their departure. Of her more cleaver plans she made Keyah and Kopa join in a few hunts, hauling back food after their sessions together. Keyah was very happy; she had everything she ever wanted at long last. Kopa loved her so, giving himself so freely to her regularly. He was even happy to fulfill some of her fantasies, though some positions they attempted did not work out quite as planned. The secret was kept well from Asani and Amri as well as the other girls, but Ni remained suspicious. He tried again to confront Hakima about it, but she easily settled his curiosity with a few well placed arguments. \n“Asani, how are you feeling today?” Amri asked, settling beside him. \n“Tired.” He answered quietly. \n“Still not getting any sleep?” \n“I keep rolling over hitting the cuts and waking up. It sucks.” He stated. \n“Able to walk yet?” Amri pondered. \n“Yep, for a while at least. Can’t really get moving yet though, or at least I haven’t tried.” He explained. \n“Well that’s promising, good to know Hakima’s baths are working properly. Are you keeping them clean as well?” \n“Yep, pain in the ass literally but yep. Can’t sleep so, there’s not much else to do aside from clean em.” He answered rubbing his paw at his eyes. \n“You know I was thinking about what happened to you in the fight. Now I know you’re already your worst critic on it but, I thought when you were feeling a bit better we could train on some kicks. Help keep attacks like that from happening, or at least reacting to them quicker.” Amri suggested warmly. Asani yawned but nodded in agreement. \n“Sounds fine.” He answered, shaking his mane out. Ni started approaching the two now, greeting them with a smile. \n“Hey, how’s he doing?” Ni asked. \n“Still can’t sleep it seems.” Amri informed him. \n“Been trying to all afternoon, but fuck it I’ll just stay up another night.” Asani added. \n“You know I was thinking, why don’t you let me or Amri sleep aside you for a while. Keep you from rolling over, could help you get a decent night’s sleep for once.”\n“Nah, I’ll be fine.” Ni shook his head and gave him a quick hug. \n“Just trying to help ya Asani.”\n“I’ll be fine dude, geez relax.” Asani insisted, pushing him back. \n“I’m glad you’re here Ni, there are a couple of things I was hoping the three of us could discuss.” Amri announced. \n“Ahh, we going to talk about Kopa?” Ni questioned eagerly. Amri smiled and nodded. \n“Yes, but not just him. Wet season is starting soon, I’ve had Saeska do a few quick run outs to see where we could go. But we’ll go into more detail in a bit here; I don’t want to be within earshot of the pride discussing this.” He explained. Amri got up and directed towards the stream. Asani slowly rose up and began to follow. Ni looked back, seeing Kopa and Keyah looking towards him. With a smile Ni winked at the two, Kopa started to really become excited now. \n“They’re going to vote on me.” He whispered to Keyah. She started giggling helplessly. \n“This is fantastic!” She squealed. \n“Don’t get your hopes up yet sis.” Kinu interrupted. \n“Why not?” Keyah asked. \n“It’ll be wet season soon, maybe they’re going to vote, maybe not but odds are we’re moving again.”\n“I suppose you could be right.” She admitted. Kinu giggled and nuzzled her sister’s cheek. \n“But you know what; I hope they do vote on him. I’m really proud of you sis, you’ve found someone you truly love. And Kopa?” She asked, glancing to him. “Welcome to the pride, little brother.” Kopa chuckled, bowing before her. \n“Thanks sis.”\n\nNi, Asani and Amri gathered together near the stream. Asani took a quick drink before joining them, slowly settling his body down. Amri cleared his throat and began. \n“So, first things first. We have wet season approaching, you know what that means.” \n“Yep.” Ni agreed. “Gotta find a den, or thick spot in the forest to rest.” \n“Fuck the forest; I’m sick of bugs crawling up my nose.” Asani interrupted. \n“You and me both.” Ni nodded. “Not much game either and it’s hard to track it in there.” \n“So I’m assuming settling in the forest is out of the question.” Amri asked the two. \n“Yeah, take a den.” Ni said calmly. \n“Den.” \n“Alright, den it is. Saeska’s scouting then will be of little help, she was searching the forested area far off to the east. So Ni, you know the valleys beyond it well.” \n“Pretty well.” Ni acknowledged. “Last year when we settled in the forest, near the valleys I found a few good caves. Pretty sure I can remember where they were.” \n“Not much to go on, but if we need a few days to find a place to settle we’ll take it.” Amri stated. “You know, farther up the stream here is a waterfall, the one just down a ways of the chasms and valleys. That waterfall I’m certain has a large den within.” \n“That could work, a lot of lions don’t hide out in waterfall caves. Kind of gives us a solid element of safety.” Ni replied thinking about it. \n“It’s a little far from game trails though.” Amri added shyly. \n“Ahhh, well.. See if we had a solid hiding spot like that, we could afford to stockpile kills. Take out two or three animals and just eat when we’re hungry, that kind of thing. Hakima, Saeska, Keyah and Kinu could relay them back in teams, and honestly if it’s a big distance we can step in and help to.” Ni suggested. \n“Well called. Asani, what do you think?” Amri asked turning to him. Asani was blinking over and over, they weren’t sure he was even paying attention. \n“I’ll agree with whatever you want to do Amri, I’m kind of drifting in and out here. All I heard was waterfalls and relaying kills, sounds fine.” He admitted. \n“Well that’s settled then; we’ll follow the river and cut through the forest till we hit the waterfalls. The wildebeest in the valley will make suitable food; we just have to run it back in relays through the forest.” Amri declared.\n“Agreed.” Ni answered. \n“Agreed.” Asani nodded.\n“Good, now on to the big topic, Kopa.” Amri announced. Ni nodded, rubbing his paws in excitement. Amri looked at him smiling shaking his head. “You’re going to burst if you don’t get to vote first aren’t you?” he asked chuckling. Ni laughed and nodded. “Go ahead.” \n“Well, it’s no secret I’ve grown fond of the kid. There’s good reason, he’s fulfilled every request given to him. He’s trained with me and Asani, he saved Saeska on one of his first hunts and tracked down Kinu and Keyah when they were injured that same day. The kid fought with great honor and little fear in his first takeover attempt, outnumbered and completely battle fresh. I’m excited to see what becomes of him now; I already love em like a little brother. My vote is yes, Kopa joins our pride!” He announced happily. \n“Well put Ni, Asani? Would you like to vote next?” Amri asked. \n“Psh, I always vote last. I prefer it. Go ahead.” He dismissed. Amri’s smile slowly wiped away. His face turned solemn, he was deep in thought on the matter, thinking carefully how to state his position on the matter. \n“I love Kopa. He’s a wonderful child, a blessing on our pride from the heavens themselves. I’ve told you how I came about him, but I did not tell you all of it. To be honest, I did not think it would ever really apply. The monkey that saved him; treated him with the medicines he needed to survive spoke fondly of him for a reason. Kopa is a prince of the lion pride within a kingdom known as the Pridelands. The lioness that hunted him was an outcast, a very powerful hunter and well trained fighter. This is why he feared her so, she knew the habits of his family, and knew when to strike to kill him. He offered me Kopa on a condition that if she should fall, that I would return him home. I have spoken with Kopa many times since the discovery of that lioness’s body. I have encouraged him in his thinking to return home, if only to fulfill the promise made that spared him his life. I curse the day she appeared in that river, had we never seen her. I would have lovingly welcomed him not giving it a moment’s thought. But now.” He sighed heavily, closing his eyes. “Now, I must bear the burden of my word. The lioness is dead; his pride was no doubt successful in defeating her. There is peace in his home, and a grieving father and mother, are unaware their child still lives.” Amri paused for a moment, placing a hand on his heart. “I am a father myself. I do not know the pain of losing a child, but I understand it. If I had lost Saeska, but had even a hint that somewhere she was alive I would rend the heavens and earth to find her. I cannot deprive a family of their son.” He softly stated. Ni hung his head in sorrow. \n“Amri, I understand. But it’s not fair to ask him to go home, he loves us!”\n“Is it anymore fair to break the hearts of a kingdom who has lost their prince? Is it fair that, his family should suffer for our desire to keep him? Is it safe to assume that this shamanistic monkey does not know he is alive, and wouldn’t tell them? A kingdom in rage, could empty its lands to find one so precious to them. We’ve fought off five to four. How do you intend to win against lions that take us six to one, including Kopa?” He asked firmly. Ni closed his eyes, turning away from Amri. “I love him; I could say it a thousand times with no less meaning. But if he joins our pride, there is nothing to encourage him to the home that claims him.” Amri paused for a while; closing his eyes he raised his paw. “My vote is made, my answer is no.” he stated, placing his paw down on the matter. Ni looked to Amri with tears in his eyes. Amri wouldn’t meet them; it was a decision heavy on his heart. Ni turned to Asani. \n“Asani?” he pleaded. Though he still seemed a little out of it, he was thinking the matter over best he could. \n“You’ve lead us this far with honor, I trust in your council Amri. I’ll admit I’m not the kid’s biggest fan; it’s a stretch to say I love him. But you know what, I wanted him around, if only because of what he means to our family. But you’re right, it’s not right to keep him from his family. To tell you the truth, the idea of us trying to fight off a kingdom to keep him is suicide. My votes with you Amri, the answer is no.”\nNi hung his head once again, choking back the tears coming down his face. \n“Come, we must go and inform the others.” Amri said solemnly. \n“You tell them!” Ni snapped. “I don’t have it in me to break the kid’s heart.” \n\nKopa and Keyah laid next to each other, watching the sky over the stream begin to darken. Storm clouds were coming in, and Kopa was excited about this and the news he was waiting for. \n“Love thunderstorms.” Kopa whispered. \n“Ugh, there so loud, how do you stand it?” She asked. \n“Ahh, the waters so cool. And the lightning, what a show! Maybe it’s cause for a while that was the only excitement I saw was a good storm.” He replied. \n“Yeah, and then there was me trembling like a baby holding you during them!” She added giggling. \n“Asani kept thinking it was me, till you wet yourself.” \n“You shush! You said you’d keep that quiet!” She hushed him, putting a paw over his mouth. \n“I did, doesn’t mean he did.” \n“Blah, what a pig.” She scoffed jokingly. \n“Oh come on. You don’t wet yourself anymore during them…. Usually.” \n“You bugger!” She shouted tackling him. They play wrestled for a bit until she pinned him down, giggling atop of him. “What are you gonna do if I gotta go now huh?”\n“Do I have to answer that?” He laughed. She leaned down, still laughing and nuzzled his cheek. Kopa turned again to the stream and saw Amri and Asani returning. “Oh hey, their back!” He exclaimed, guiding her off. Regaining his poise he smiled as they approached. Something seemed off though, Asani and Amri were approaching but where was Ni? Looking a bit off to the left he spotted him, his head was slouched as he walked towards a tree, away from the pride. \n“What the?” He asked softly. \n“Hm?” Keyah wondered, leaning into his side. Kopa saw the faces as they came in closer. He could feel a knot forming in his stomach. It’s not possible, there’s just no way he thought. Looking to Ni again he slunk his body down, unwilling to join him or the others. The knot rung tighter, Kopa knew the answer before they even arrived. His chest began to ache terribly; a deep shudder ran through his body as his head hung down. \n“Kopa. Asani, Ni and I have spoken about you. We are very proud of the way you defended us, and we have reached a decision.” Amri announced.\n“It’s no, isn’t it.” He replied. Amri was taken aside by his answer. Hakima, Saeska and Kinu heard this and moved in closer to listen in.\n“I’m very sorry Kopa. We love you dearly, but you must understand that-“ \n“Shut up!” Kopa barked, he didn’t want to hear it. He had worked so hard for this and had made his intentions clear. Snapping his head up he met Amri’s face in tears. “I’ve done everything you have ever asked, how could you do this to me!” \n“Kopa listen to me!” Amri pleaded. “You must let me explain, when we found that lioness that maimed you dead, I was put to my word to the one that saved your life. He made me promise, that when she fell I was to bring you home to your family.” \n“So now I’m there possession? No choice but to wander home to my parents and pretend you never existed? Is that it!?” Kopa fired angrily. \n“Geez, chill the fuck out Kopa!” Asani shouted back. \n“Stay out of this Asani!” Kopa snapped once more. Amri turned to Asani and pat his back. \n“It’s ok Asani, let me speak with him.” He insisted. “Kopa, please understand that this was not something decided lightly. We made this decision in your best interest. Your family loves you; they deserve a chance to see you again.” \n“I’m dead to my family. My father watched me die in his arms. For years now, there faces were stripped from my memory. I only knew you, and this family. I struggled every day just to get back on my feet, to walk to run. Now I’ve truly proven to myself I can stand on my own. My mother and father were not here for these things, you were. I told you again and again I do not want to go “Home” I was home. I fought for it, and now you deny me what you promised. You have betrayed me.” Amri began walking over to him, desperate to comfort him. \n“Kopa, I told-“ Kopa roared forcing him back. Keyah staggered back as well, frightened by his sudden outburst. Kopa raised his head, the tears still flowed but his whimpering faded. He stared down at Amri in disgust. \n“If this is not my pride, then I must find my own place in this world.” Kopa stated. Turning to Keyah his heart ached further. She was crying so hard, and nothing he could do could comfort her. “You are a part of my heart Keyah. I love you, always.” Turning away he aimed himself towards the open savannah. \n“Kopa!” Amri shouted. \n“Stay away from me, this isn’t my family anymore.” He warned, as he rushed out into the savannah. Keyah was left gasping; her tears flooded her face as she watched him run. Hakima walked by her husband with anger in her eyes. She took his attention with a low growl. \n“Your decision, was poorly made.” Keyah couldn’t contain it anymore. Erupting she fell to the ground. Hakima rushed over to her and picked her up, wrapping her tight in her arms. Kinu joined her and grabbed her back, stroking her heartbroken sister. Amri turned to Keyah as well, reaching out for her. \n“Keyah I’m-“\n“No! Get back!” Hakima swatted his paw. “Husband you have done enough! Let this girl be!” She demanded. Amri was shocked at her outburst as she immediately returned to tending to Keyah’s hysterical crying. Walking away, Amri wandered over to Asani. Flopping down beside him he sighed and covered his face. \n“What have I done?” He moaned.\n“You did what you thought was right.” Asani encouraged. “Look, it’s all fresh to them so of course it’s going to hurt. Give them some time, Kopa will come around to.” \n“I wish I could believe this boy.” \n“Everyone has to face there past at some point. Kopa can run from it all he wants, eventually it’ll catch up to him whether he wants it to or not.” \n“But did I ask him to face it, or run from it in denying him from our pride?” Amri asked. \n“Who gives a shit?” Asani scoffed. “You owned up to your word, acted on his best interest and he walks out. Kopa might be able to stand for himself now, but I’ve said it a million times, he’s still a pussy! Only pussy’s run from their problems instead of rising to meet them.” \n“A little simplistic and crudely worded Asani but you have a point. But what about you? Do you feel nothing for his loss?” Amri wondered. Asani took a deep breath. \n“Honestly at the moment, I don’t care. But that could be the lack of sleep talking. I’m going to find a spot to rest, somewhere maybe I won’t roll over. Try to get some rest to Amri, I got your back, remember that.”\n“Why is this happening!? Why!?” Keyah cried out into Hakima’s neck.\n“Easy girl easy. It’s alright, I got you.”Hakima hushed, stroking her head. “Shh, it’s ok, it’s ok.” Saeska had enough of watching Keyah cry. Wiping the few tears from her cheek she strolled over to Asani. He had settled near a rock, and was leaning against it somewhat for support. She stood over him. \n“Yes?” He asked. Saeska didn’t answer, she just continued to stare down at him, the same sorrowful look on her face as though someone had wounded her. “What?” Asani asked again. \n“Do you care that your brother is out in the wilds, alone?” She asked. Asani looked away from her and settled his head in his paws. \n“He made his choice.” He replied quietly.\n“Who’s the “Pussy” now I wonder?” She insulted, shaking her head at him. \n“Hey, watch it.” He warned. Saeska ignored him and walked on. Asani scoffed off her attempt to mock him and settled his head once more. Kinu and Hakima had somewhat settled Keyah’s crying. Though she still sniffled and whimpered in Hakima’s arms, Kinu felt she had done all she could to ease the immediate pain. She turned now to Ni, sitting so far away aside a tree. The clouds were coming in, and the rain was spitting down in the grass. She walked over to him, as the low thunder boomed. Laying her head near his, she sniffled and kissed his cheek. Ni was shocked at her affection. \n“What was that for?” He asked in surprised. \n“Are you ok?” She asked softly. Ni glanced to the ground and settled his head once more. \n“I’ve been a lot better.” Kinu crawled a little closer and caressed his cheek. \n“I never really talked much to him, I’ll admit. But I didn’t want to see him go. I was looking forward to seeing my sister have cubs you know? Seeing our family grow bigger.” She confessed, closing her eyes. \n“Yeah well, that’s not the case anymore now is it?” \n“There must be something we can do, isn’t there?” She pleaded. Ni closed his eyes cringing in pain. He didn’t know what to do. Even if they went out after Kopa, the answer was still no from Amri and Asani. \n“I guess, all we can do is hope he finds a way home.” \n“But he just left?” She wondered. “Why would he come home?” Ni couldn’t help but wonder if she was serious. Even she knew that Kopa had a family before he was brought here. When he saw her face though, smiling. It answered his question. \n“Heh, you’re right. This is his home isn’t it?” He asked with a smile. Kinu nodded and let a quick laugh escape. “He’s going to be pretty hot headed tonight. No point in chasing him down now. Hopefully he doesn’t get far. Tomorrow, first thing, you and me, we’ll go get him.”\n“We’ll need a good reason for ditching for a while.” She suggested. Laughing he shook his head. \n“I think this is a good time to take a page from Asani. Fuck the excuses, we’ll straight up tell them. We’re leaving, and we’re not coming back until we have him.” Kinu laughed and brushed under his chin. \n“I like it!”\n“Keep the sad face going though, don’t let on we’re planning this until it’s too late.” Ni insisted. Kinu agreed and got up. Lining herself with his body she laid down on top of him. Placing a paw atop of each of his he chuckled and kissed it. “And this?” He asked. \n“Ooo, there there poor Ni.” She joked, stroking his mane. “Get some rest, I can track pretty damn well, but I’ll need some; mmm, comfortable rest to get my strength up for tomorrow.”\n“Agreed. And Kinu?” \n“Yes?” She asked. Ni grabbed her paw once more and softly kissed, caressing it even before slowly releasing it. \n“Thank you.”\n\nKopa rushed out deep into the savannah as night descended on him. The rain was coming down fairly well now, as thunder boomed across the sky regularly. He spotted the stream once more off in the distance. Deciding there was little better to guide him, he headed straight for it. If anything the water would at least provide some fresh fuel on his shallow stomach. He had eaten a little earlier in the day, but nothing significant like a meal. Finally reaching it, he dipped in taking a few laps with his tongue, watching the water ripple from the rain. Looking back, he could hardly see his old home. He had put a fair amount of distance on it, but not as much as he wanted. \nHe was still in shock; he couldn’t believe it was really over. The thought brought tears to his eyes once more. Wiping his nose he tried to shake it off, he knew he didn’t have time for this. To survive he’d have to find somewhere to settle up for the night, and maybe hunt something small in the morning once the rain had let up. After that, was uncertainty. Kopa had never been forced to survive on his own for a long time. He had to prepare for it though; he just wasn’t sure what to do first or where to go. \n“Small steps first. Come on think.” He told himself. Looking ahead a good while off in the distance was the forest. A dense jungle teaming with plant life and smaller game. The major downside to the forest was the insects; he had camped a few nights with his old family there before. There was little relief from them, you had to eat fast or else they would literally crawl all over the food. Though most were not harmful, a few poisonous critters would be more than enough to cause him serious problems. With little else to go on, Kopa followed the stream and started his way towards the forest. \n“If I stick near the water, I can at least keep track of where I’m going, and have a steady supply.” He said aloud. “Won’t have to look for clean pools.” The storm was growing in intensity. Flashes of lightning were becoming frequent, and the thunder loud as it crackled from the strikes. The rain water was cool, but not cold. Being wet didn’t really bother him so much save for the fact the tuft on his head fell, sticking to his face and occasionally covering his eye. His pace was brisk, he kept moving fast. He didn’t want the chance that Amri or Asani was following him. The only ones he couldn’t really outrun was Saeska or Kinu, he doubted either of them would come. \nHe ran for a good while, as the hours passed the forest grew closer and closer with each stride. He could see the base of the trees now. He pushed hard, rushing as fast as he could for them. He was sick of the rain already, his paws sliding in the mud beneath the grass was particularly annoying. Finally he found his approach; he slowed down a bit to catch his breath. He smiled at the sight, at last some relief from the storm, he thought. As he readied to run again though, a flash of lightning revealed something nearby. A body, lying near the stream. It seemed like a lion, but given the dark now he wasn’t sure. Slowly he crept over to it; his curiosity was peeked as another flash concluded his initial thought. It was a lion, lying near the stream, bleeding. He made haste now over to it. The small creature groaned as he came over. \n“Who’s there? Ezea?” He gasped. \n“Uhh.” Kopa clamored for an answer. \n“Just finish it, please, no more.” He begged. \n“What happened?” Kopa asked. The lion raised his head, his eyes barely open. He seemed extremely disoriented. \n“What?... Who.. are you?”\n“I’m Kopa.” He replied. Another flash revealed the detail of his wounds. A deep gash ran near the base of his neck and down his back. It ran quite long, about half way down his body. Dry blood was visible on his sides as well, and the wound smelt odd, sick even. “Oh geez, what happened to you!?” Kopa asked, rushing over to him. He didn’t respond. Kopa looked his face over, he recognized him. It was the adolescent he fought against during the battle. “I know you!” Kopa proclaimed. \n“You.” The boy clamored. Looking Kopa over a bit he to recognized him. “You, you’re the Kopa I fought.” \n“Yeah.” He agreed. \n“Please, finish it off. It hurts so much, I just want to die.” He pleaded.\n“No, I won’t do that! You’re just a cub really.” Kopa refused. \n“I don’t care! Just kill me! I’m going to die anyway!” \n“Why are you going to die?” \n“This wound is sick. Ezea cut me so I couldn’t clean it. It’s been a couple of days now, I can barely walk.” \n“Let me have a look.” Kopa insisted. Carefully he examined the cut along his back. It was a rather grotesque sight. The dried blood and dingy flesh had scabbed, turning black. “Let me know if this hurts ok?” He asked. \n“Ok.” Kopa began gently pressing far outside of the wound. The boy didn’t respond, as he moved closer he still showed no signs of pain. Near the base though, he flinched and called out. “Ow! Ok stop!” \n“Yeah, it’s getting sick. But it’s not as bad as you think, yet.” \n“What am I going to do?” He cried, covering his face. Kopa leaned his head beside him, hushing him. \n“You’ll be ok, alright? Look it’s raining; we can clean this up now. Want me to grab a stick or something you can bite down on? I can’t really bath it properly; I’ll get sick if I lick it.”\n“No! Don’t please! It’ll hurt too much! I can’t take it!” He rambled on. Kopa was getting a little fed up with the childishness. Even if he was quite young. Reflecting back on his time with Ni, he recalled the way to put someone out without killing them. Grabbing his head, Kopa wrapped his arm around his neck and squeezed. The grip was cutting off the blood flow to his head. The boy gargled and gasped a few times until his eyes slowly closed and passed out. Releasing him he didn’t hesitate to get to work. Carefully he took a claw, picking out from the wound the few traces of dirt and grass that seemed stuck to it. He brushed off the brittle pieces of the scab, and pressed against the blood that seeped out. The skin around the outside looked quite sore; it was not a good sign. No doubt this was the sickness he spoke of. Satisfied with the cleaning he could do, he hoisted the boy onto his back and carried him to the water. Sliding him in tail first, Kopa brushed off the blood that was clumped into his fur. It took a fair amount of effort, but he had done the best he could. A few stains remained running alongside the cut, however he did the best that he could to remove the clumps. Kopa lifted him again, placing him on his back and removed him from the water. He carried him into the forest but stayed near the water’s edge. It didn’t take long, but he found a location he liked, a dirt shore that ran along the river. Though muddy right now, it would be one of the few places not coated in insects, he hoped. \n“Least there shouldn’t be many bugs here.” He thought aloud. The boy’s eyes started blinking, he was stirring awake. Kopa settled down face to face with him and smiled. “Hey, you alright?” He asked. \n“What did you do to me?” He asked, scratching his head. \n“I had to put you down for a minute so I could clean up that gash. It’s looking a little better.” He explained. The boy riled his shoulders a little cringing in pain. It still hurt, but a little of the ache had definitely been removed.\n“Thanks, but. Why are you helping me?” He wondered. Kopa’s eyes shot to the ground then back to him. \n“Well I couldn’t just leave you there to die.” \n“You’re weird.” He scoffed lightly. \n“Why is that weird?” \n“I’m an outcast, don’t I deserve to die?” He questioned. Kopa gave a quick laugh before replying. \n“Yeah well, you’re not the only one.” \n“What? You have a pride, you guys beat us.” Kopa shook his head, settling it between his paws. \n“We did. But apparently I’m not one of them. They want me to go to my old home, and forget all about them.”\n“You have two homes?” The boy asked in surprise. \n“It’s a long story. I’ll tell you about it later. Hey, what was your name again?” \n“Nathari.” \n“Nice to meet you Nathari.” Kopa greeted warmly offering him his paw. Nathari laughed a bit and clapped his paw. \n“Nice to meet you to, weirdo. I mean Kopa.” Kopa joined him laughing, settling alongside his new friend for the night. \n\n",
"writing_bbcode_parsed": "<span style='word-wrap: break-word;'>The enemy males moved in cautiously towards Amri, Ni, Asani and Kopa. Hakima stood tall aside the girls who were huddled together closely. Saeska had found her tears now; she didn&rsquo;t like seeing her father standing down other lions, especially outnumbered. A couple tried to flank them but to no avail, Ni and Amri&rsquo;s growls and sharp movements kept them face to face. Hakima slowly approached taking to Amri&rsquo;s side. One of the males snarled at her then laughed. <br />&ldquo;Making your lioness&rsquo;s fight for you, cowards?&rdquo; He mocked. <br />&ldquo;No matter what the outcome, this male is bound to me. If you take his life, I will join the fray. I will not stop until I kill you in return, but I will not fight right now.&rdquo; Hakima stated firmly. The large males scoffed as she backed off. <br />&ldquo;Fine, keep your old hag.&rdquo; He spat addressing Amri.<br />&ldquo;Leave now, and you might walk away with only a few scratches.&rdquo; Asani announced provoking the pride. This was no doubt the target Kopa would have to go for first.<br />&ldquo;Tell you what, you four walk away, and I promise not to take your females, for a day or so.&rdquo; He laughed. <br />&ldquo;Ha! No female could become pregnant from your piss seed. You need four other lions to fight your battles for you, pussy! What a pathetic excuse of a lion you are.&rdquo; Asani ridiculed. Two of the other males began honing in on Asani, he smiled and riled himself up. &ldquo; What&rsquo;s the matter boys? Can&rsquo;t handle the fact your leader can&rsquo;t fuck a lioness so he has to use you?&rdquo; He continued. Kopa smiled as his excitement for the coming fight grew. He knew Asani was mocking them to get them to focus on him; no doubt he had the mouth for it.<br />&ldquo;Let&rsquo;s see how much mouth you have when I rip your jaw from your face!&rdquo; The big one threatened. <br />&ldquo;You know the way, carry enough respect to challenge properly scum!&rdquo; Amri beckoned. <br />&ldquo;Fine!&rdquo; The big one shouted. &ldquo;I am Ezeamaka! And I challenge you!&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;I am Haidar!&rdquo; Another shouted facing Asani. &ldquo; And I challenge you!&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;My name is Kamili, and I challenge you!&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;Kondo, bring your worst, I challenge you.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;I am Nathari, and I challenge you.&rdquo; The young one proclaimed. <br />&ldquo;I am Amri! I accept!&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;I am Ni, and I accept!&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;Asani, and I accept!&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;I am Kopa, and I accept your challenge!&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;Take it bitches!&rdquo; Asani shouted as he charged in bowling Kondo and Haidar over, the enemy pride charged in after Amri and Ni. He didn&rsquo;t hesitate; leaping onto his body his fangs found flesh around his throat and dug in. Nathari squealed in pain as he tried desperately to kick Kopa off of him, but to no avail. <br />&ldquo;I give! Stop! Please!&rdquo; He barely eked out. <br />&ldquo;Bout time!&rdquo; Asani called out. <br />&ldquo;Was busy.&rdquo; Kopa replied with a smile. Kopa paired himself with Haidar letting Asani continue his work on Kondo. As he rose up Haidar met him face to face growling as his eyes locked on his. <br />&ldquo;Are you ready to die this day, scarred one?!&rdquo; Haidar mocked.<br />&ldquo;I don&rsquo;t fear death! I have faced it! Ripped it with my claws, now taste them!&rdquo; He shouted charging him. Haidar wrestled Kopa up onto his hind legs. Taking quick bites they tried to throw one another off balance and onto the ground. Kopa couldn&rsquo;t keep his footing though, ending up with Haidar right on top of him. He snapped over and over trying to keep his jaws away from his throat, but Haidar was winning over. As he made his lunge for Kopa&rsquo;s throat Haidar was tackled and knocked down. Asani quickly grabbed Kopa and pulled him up. <br />&ldquo;Come on, after him! Go Scars!&rdquo; He encouraged. Kopa didn&rsquo;t waste the chance; he rushed in to resume the fight with Haidar. <br />Ni was fighting well against Kamili. It didn&rsquo;t take long for him to knock Kamili to the ground and meet him face to face. <br />&ldquo;You done?&rdquo; Ni asked sternly. Kamili closed his eyes and moaned wiping away at the blood tearing in his eyes. <br />&ldquo;I can&rsquo;t do this, I&rsquo;ll stop.&rdquo; He whined. <br />Coming in swinging Kopa struck as hard as he could against Haidar. Each paw slamming on his shoulders and arms until finally he caught a good shot across Haidar&rsquo;s face. Believing no choice but to trust it, he fell backwards and kicked his feet into Haidar&rsquo;s belly as he rolled. Kicking out hard, he flung the body over him flipping in the process. Kopa could hardly believe he was now atop of Haidar. Darting in he grabbed the throat and held tight. Haidar kicked and screamed as Kopa clenched his neck in his jaws. Asani turned his attention to Kopa&rsquo;s battle, believing Kondo down from a blow during their fight. He smiled, almost proud of Kopa&rsquo;s efforts, he had him pinned. If Haidar didn&rsquo;t relent, he was going to die. Kopa continued to weigh down and choke Haidar in his jaws. He refused to surrender; he didn&rsquo;t stop fighting until the taste of blood flooded Kopa&rsquo;s mouth. Slowly the kicking stopped; Haidar&rsquo;s eyes gazed up to the sky gasping once more, before falling to death in Kopa&rsquo;s jaws.<br />Kopa released him, spitting up the blood that had pooled. He was trembling; he had really killed him in battle. Asani smiled and nodded proudly. <br />&ldquo;Well done Sca-&ldquo; He shouted as he was cut off. Asani felt the rake of claws, dig deep along his thighs. Gasping, he slowly turned to see Kondo behind him. He stood there, smiling, blood dripping down his nose as he shook his head.<br />&ldquo;Say something now, smart ass.&rdquo; He mocked. Asani knew he was wounded badly. <br />&ldquo;Asani!&rdquo; Kopa cried, rushing to his aid. Kondo jumped onto Asani&rsquo;s back and pinned him down; he could feel Kondo&rsquo;s claws dig into his flesh once again. &ldquo; No!&rdquo; Kopa screamed as he struck Kondo hard on the nose. Kondo screamed in agony, he was already injured from Asani&rsquo;s previous blows. &ldquo;Ni! Help!&rdquo; Kopa screamed as he tried to cover up the blood from Asani&rsquo;s wounds. Ni having finished rushed over to their side. <br />&ldquo;No! Asani, are you alright?&rdquo; He pleaded. <br />&ldquo;He caught me. I can&rsquo;t believe he caught me.&rdquo; Asani whispered. Kondo now back on his feet was met by an enraged Ni. Bellowing he began snapping hard blows all over Kondo&rsquo;s face and arms. <br />Amri was still in heated battle with Ezeamaka. The large hefty lion was a good challenge for Amri. Both had suffered cuts and scrapes along their body from the fight. Circling each other they huffed and puffed, careful not to give away any hints of their attack. Amri burst in, throwing a few quick blows but Ezeamaka deflected them. Picking Amri up he tried to get him pinned down, but pushing his paws aside, Amri quickly broke the hold and caught Ezeamaka&rsquo;s cheek on the way down. <br />&ldquo;Give up!&rdquo; Ni demanded. <br />&ldquo;Or we&rsquo;ll put you down.&rdquo; Added Kopa. Ezeamaka turned around and realized the carnage. Nathari was cowering alongside Kamili, bathing the wounds on his face. He saw Kondo, and Haidar on the ground dead and growled turning back to Amri.<br />&ldquo;I want a piece of you! Just you!&rdquo; He demanded. <br />&ldquo;I cannot best you, but neither can you defeat me. This fight came down to our prides, and you have lost.&rdquo; Amri stated. Ezeamaka roared in anger, Ni and Kopa replied with their own, closing the gap and forcing him back. Realizing he had no where left to go, he submitted. <br />&ldquo;Keep your useless fucking hag and scrawny females, we&rsquo;ll find something worth taking!&rdquo; He barked running towards the others. &ldquo;Get up! Go!&rdquo; He shouted at the others, leading them away towards the stream. The three took a sigh of relief watching them go, they had done it, and the pride was there&rsquo;s once again. Asani slowly made his way over to them, cringing in pain with each step. <br />&ldquo;Geez Asani no! Get back on the ground now!&rdquo; Ni demanded. <br />&ldquo;What? What&rsquo;s happened?&rdquo; Amri asked urgently. Rushing over to Asani he looked upon his hind legs and cringed. &ldquo;Oh no.&rdquo; The damage was grotesquely visible now, blood was pouring from the wounds. Flesh hung from the edges of the cuts as even bone was faintly exposed beneath. <br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;ll be fine.&rdquo; He huffed trying to get up. Amri swung his head under Asani&rsquo;s arm, trying to get him onto his back. &ldquo; What are you?&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;You&rsquo;re in no condition to walk at the moment boy. Those need to be looked after, and now. And stop moving your legs!&rdquo; He demanded. Asani was in no mood to argue. He was so ashamed of himself, he knew better then to turn your back on an opponent, even if they are down. As Amri hoisted him up, he brought him over to Hakima&rsquo;s side. Kinu, Keyah and Saeska were still in shock from the battle, the smell of blood had filled the air, mainly from the two dead lions still on the ground. Asani cried out as Amri gently lowered him back down. <br />&ldquo;Easy now, easy.&rdquo; Ni guided, helping Asani back to the ground. Kopa took a spot right next to him; he couldn&rsquo;t stop staring at Asani&rsquo;s face. He&rsquo;d known him for a long time, but to see him in this kind of agony was strange. Tears were coming down Asani&rsquo;s cheek, but he didn&rsquo;t whimper or cry. <br />&ldquo;You&rsquo;re going to be alright.&rdquo; Kopa said, patting Asani&rsquo;s paw. Hakima grabbed his first hind leg and began cleaning. Asani slammed the ground as her tongue made contact and roared. Amri darted down and grabbed his head, pulling it close to his. <br />&ldquo;Easy kido, come on she has to clean it up.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;Is there anything I can do? Maybe find something to cover the wounds up?&rdquo; Kopa pleaded. <br />&ldquo;Not right now no. There wounded but those lions may still be nearby. If they find you alone you&rsquo;re as good as dead. Here.&rdquo; Amri ordered, Kopa rushed to his side as he guided him back down, right next to Asani. <br />&ldquo;Boy, put your weight on Kopa&rsquo;s leg. Press hard, we have to stop the bleeding.&rdquo; Asani slowly complied, leaning the weight of his other wounded leg on Kopa&rsquo;s. Asani shuddered again in pain as the pressure built.<br />&ldquo;It&rsquo;s alright Asani, I got ya.&rdquo; Kopa comforted. Asani gave a few more grunts and moans before he began taking deep breaths to calm himself down. Amri stroked his mane, encouraging this. <br />&ldquo;Good job kido, good job. You&rsquo;re going to be fine now.&rdquo; He said still patting him. Saeska, Keyah and Kinu were still shuddering from the fight. Saeska in particular was horrified at the sight of Asani&rsquo;s wounds, the blood streaming to the ground and the sounds he made as he was being cleaned. She could feel the rake on her thighs, it made her shudder. Ni went over to them; he could see the distress in their eyes. Settling down alongside them he spoke softly. <br />&ldquo;Hey, how are you guys holding up?&rdquo;<br />&ldquo;Is he going to be ok?&rdquo; Saeska asked nervously. Ni took a deep breath, nodding his head he answered. <br />&ldquo;Yeah, he should be. Those are some bloody nasty cuts but, Kopa recovered from worse, I think Asani will be just fine. But he&rsquo;s gonna be hurtin, a good while I&rsquo;d say.&rdquo;<br />&ldquo;I almost feel sorry for him, except I heard him running his mouth out there. How careless can you be?&rdquo; Kinu quipped. <br />&ldquo;Quiet! Asani provoked those lions to keep them on him and off Kopa.&rdquo; Ni quickly scolded. <br />&ldquo;Kopa can handle himself, can&rsquo;t he?&rdquo; Keyah asked. <br />&ldquo;He proved that today yes, but this was his first real takeover attempt. I wouldn&rsquo;t want anyone going into their first fight two on one.&rdquo;<br />&ldquo;Still, I&rsquo;m so proud of him. He&rsquo;s taking care of Asani, and he spared that young one.&rdquo; Keyah said, swooning over him.<br />&ldquo;Yeah that was impressive.&rdquo; Kinu added. &ldquo;I&rsquo;m surprised he handled the big one so well, did you see him flip the guy over?&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;Oh my gosh, it was so amazing! I didn&rsquo;t know he could do that!&rdquo; Keyah exclaimed giggling to her sister. <br />&ldquo;We should go over and thank Asani.&rdquo; Saeska perked up. The other two looked at her confused. <br />&ldquo;Seriously?&rdquo; Kinu asked in disbelief. Saeska mocked Kinu&rsquo;s face. <br />&ldquo;Yes, seriously!&rdquo; She retorted. &ldquo; He saved Kopa during the fight, and he took on two at once. Now, he&rsquo;s in a lot of pain. Without him, all of them, who knows where or what would be happening to us right now.&rdquo; Keyah nodded in agreement. <br />&ldquo;You&rsquo;re right Saeska, I&rsquo;ll head over now. Wanna come?&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;Yep!&rdquo; She happily replied getting up. As they headed for Asani, they looked back at Kinu still lying on the ground. Saeska gave her a firm glare and waited to see if she would get up. Kinu turned shyly to Ni and laughed at herself, embarrassed. <br />&ldquo;Guilted in by the kid sister, harsh huh?&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;The kid sister is right though.&rdquo; Ni replied sternly. <br />&ldquo;I know, I&rsquo;m sorry. Be right there!&rdquo; Kinu called out, rushing up to join them. Saeska was the first to approach, Asani didn&rsquo;t notice. His head hanging down he was trying to take his mind off the pain of being cleaned. <br />&ldquo;Hey, Asani?&rdquo; She called softly. Looking up he met her eyes, cringing in pain. Saeska threw her paws around him and held tight. Asani was shocked by her affections. <br />&ldquo;Wha, what are you?&rdquo; He stammered. Saeska kissed his cheek and smiled. <br />&ldquo;Thanks for fighting for us today.&rdquo; She praised. <br />&ldquo;Uh, you&rsquo;re welcome.&rdquo; He replied, uneasily. Keyah took her turn now. Wrapping a paw around him she giggled. <br />&ldquo;Thanks for saving my boyfriend.&rdquo; Asani chuckled himself now. <br />&ldquo;Oh yeah, guess I did do that huh, my bad.&rdquo; He joked. Keyah shook her head laughing. <br />&ldquo;Still a pig aren&rsquo;t you?&rdquo; She asked with a smile. <br />&ldquo;Well, it&rsquo;s a reputation worth keeping.&rdquo; She laughed again and kissed his head, turning her attention to Kopa she started cuddling with him. Asani looked to Kinu, who was approaching slowly. <br />&ldquo;Let me guess, don&rsquo;t want to touch me cause I&rsquo;m a male?&rdquo; He asked. Kinu rolled her eyes and leaned in, stealing a hug from him. <br />&ldquo;Thank you.&rdquo; She whispered. <br />&ldquo;Tell you what, you take care of Ni, and that&rsquo;s all the thanks you need to give me.&rdquo; He suggested. Kinu avoided the comment by quickly walking away. Saeska snuck over to her father who was bathing his minor cuts and scrapes. Creeping in she swung under his paw and leaned into his chest. <br />&ldquo;Daddy.&rdquo; She moaned. Amri chuckled pulling her close. <br />&ldquo;What is it sweet heart?&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;Thank you.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;Oh come here.&rdquo; He laughed, wrapping her up even tighter. &ldquo; You&rsquo;re welcome baby, you&rsquo;re my little girl, no one&rsquo;s going to take you away from me.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;Love you daddy.&rdquo; She softly cried into his mane. <br />&ldquo;I love you too baby.&rdquo;<br /><br />As dark came, Kopa was finally released from his duty as Asani&rsquo;s bandage. Blood soaking his fur, he was asked by Amri and Ni to follow them. They walked over to the bodies of Haidar and Kondo that still remained on the ground from the battle. The smell of blood was still very fresh in the air, partly from their bodies and partly from the blood on Kopa&rsquo;s thigh.<br />&ldquo;Sad, isn&rsquo;t it.&rdquo; Ni sighed. Kopa turned and looked to him. <br />&ldquo;What do you mean?&rdquo; He asked. <br />&ldquo;They didn&rsquo;t even come back for their own.&rdquo; Ni explained. Kopa nodded and bowed his head. He stood before Haidar&rsquo;s body, the one that he killed. The guilt of killing him began to creep up on him. He didn&rsquo;t want to take his life, he just wanted to defeat him. To protect Keyah and the girls in the pride, he felt horrible about it. <br />&ldquo;Eating at you, isn&rsquo;t it Kopa?&rdquo; Amri asked, breaking his train of thought. <br />&ldquo;I didn&rsquo;t, want to kill him.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;I know, that&rsquo;s why you&rsquo;re going to dig, right here right now.&rdquo; Amri stated calmly. <br />&ldquo;Me to Kopa, don&rsquo;t worry. Just follow my lead.&rdquo; Ni added. Ni began digging up the dirt before Kondo&rsquo;s body. Kopa followed suit, pulling up more and more earth. His body was already sore from the fight, digging the hole was taxing what little he had left. Amri sat and watched as the two worked away, Kopa looked up to him now and then before resuming his task. <br />&ldquo;I can&rsquo;t help you with this boy.&rdquo; Amri announced. &ldquo; He fell in your jaws, now you must put him to rest properly.&rdquo; Kopa nodded and continued to dig. As they finished Ni carefully placed Kondo&rsquo;s body within the shallow earth. He had dug just deep enough to seclude his body below the soil, Kopa had done a similar job as well. Replacing the earth they had mounded, they covered the bodies of their fallen opponents leaving only a small mound remaining. Ni sat before the mound and closed his eyes. <br />&ldquo;Spirit of Kondo, I call upon thee. You fought with great honor, but fell before me. My soul cannot rest without payment to you. Your body to rest, my tribute to you. This mound that I raise, earth pulled with my paws. To conceal your body, fangs and claws. May the suns warm descent, bring an end to your strife. With my blessing find peace, in the circle of life.&rdquo; <br />Ni kept his eyes closed, a few moments longer mourning the loss of Kondo&rsquo;s life. <br />&ldquo;Wow, that was amazing. Is this what I should say?&rdquo; Kopa asked. Amri nodded and walked over to his side. Kopa enclosed the last parts of Haidar&rsquo;s body and took a similar position before him. &ldquo;I don&rsquo;t know if I remember all the words.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;ll help you through it, just repeat after me.&rdquo;<br />&ldquo;Spirit of Haidar, I call upon thee. You fought with great honor, but fell before me. My soul cannot rest without payment to you. Your body to rest, my tribute to you. This mound that I raise, earth pulled with my paws. To conceal your body, fangs and claws. May the suns warm descent, bring an end to your strife. With my blessing find peace, in the circle of life.&rdquo;<br />Kopa kept his eyes closed as well. The work of burying his body, and the words he offered did help. As if some pain that tore at him after he killed him, was beginning to loosen its grip. <br />&ldquo;The shock, of your first kill Kopa. Will last a long time. But it will pass, you have done all you could to honor the memory of one you defeated. Remember that, and know that Haidar knows this as well.&rdquo; Amri lectured. Kopa opened his eyes and looked to Ni. He had placed his paw on the head of his mound. Shuddering he released and shook his head. Opening his eyes he walked passed Kopa and Amri. <br />&ldquo;Never get used to that.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;Huh?&rdquo; Kopa asked. Amri turned Kopa&rsquo;s attention back to the mound. <br />&ldquo;Close your eyes, place your paw where you buried his head.&rdquo; Amri instructed. <br />&ldquo;Thank you.&rdquo; <br />Kopa&rsquo;s heart was racing, he trembled at the words. <br />&ldquo;Easy kido.&rdquo; Amri comforted, patting his back. <br />&ldquo;W-w-what was t-t-that.&rdquo;<br />&ldquo;What did you hear?&rdquo;<br />&ldquo;It said, t-thank y-you.&rdquo; He stammered. Amri chuckled continuing to pat his back. <br />&ldquo;That, would be Haidar. It seems he accepted your tribute to him.&rdquo;<br />&ldquo;That&rsquo;s impossible! He&rsquo;s dead!&rdquo; Kopa cried out. Amri settled him back down and explained. <br />&ldquo;His spirit still lingered, he died in the heat of battle, struggling and fighting against you. You took his life, felt his blood in your jaws. You had the strongest tie to him in his final moments. Putting him to rest, honoring his bravery you settled your debt to his spirit. And so, he touched you one last time before at last finding peace in death.&rdquo;<br />&ldquo;It&rsquo;s so strange. I thought spirits and everything were just stories.&rdquo; Kopa argued. <br />&ldquo;Stories are often exaggerated tales of the truth Kopa. Spirits aren&rsquo;t constantly circling you, guiding your fate, telling you what to do. But, when moments become dire, and your bond is strong enough. The spirit can touch you, if only for a moment. This might be the second time such a thing has happened to you.&rdquo; Amri explained. Kopa looked to him confused. <br />&ldquo;What do you mean? I&rsquo;ve never heard voices like that before.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;What spirit touched your heart? Forcing it to beat once more after you perished at the claws of that lioness, I wonder?&rdquo; Amri countered. Kopa felt a chill run up his spine. He couldn&rsquo;t explain it; he wasn&rsquo;t sure how he survived it either. But a question came to him, one he felt compelled to ask Amri. <br />&ldquo;Amri. How did you know I died that day? You said you found me, wondering the savannah after the fight?&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;Ahh, it dawns on him at last!&rdquo; Amri giggled. &ldquo; Are you certain you are ready to know this?&rdquo; Kopa nodded and lay down across from Amri. He settled as well as he began to retell the tale to Kopa, of the events of that day. &ldquo; So, on this fine evening just a couple of years ago I was monitoring the movements of the game within a new territory we had taken, apparently just within a kingdom known as the Pridelands. He said he could heal you enough to give you a real shot at survival.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;Who was it?&rdquo; Kopa interrupted. <br />&ldquo;He never gave his name. I agreed, and have not yet regretted it since.&rdquo; Kopa smiled, his eyes starting to tear. <br />&ldquo;You took me in, saved me from death and raised me as your own.&rdquo;<br />&ldquo;And now, a decision must be made.&rdquo; Amri announced softly. Kopa&rsquo;s eyes lit up, was it really time? &ldquo;Soon, I will speak with Ni and Asani. Once of course he is a bit more stable, not screaming his lungs out in pain and whatnot.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;Yeah, I understand. Glad he helped me out today.&rdquo; Kopa added. <br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;m sure he is just as grateful to you for saving him, and for caring for him as well. This is a family Kopa, one that you&rsquo;re part of, always have been. Never forget that.&rdquo; He stated patting Kopa&rsquo;s head. <br />&ldquo;Never.&rdquo; He agreed rising up. <br /><br />As the next day arrived, much of the clean up from the battle had been managed. Kinu and Ni were relaxing as well, having somewhat reconciled the previous day&rsquo;s events. Ni was unimpressed with the fact Kinu was unappreciative of Asani&rsquo;s efforts. Having worked it out, they talked now of things to come next. The wet season was approaching and soon they would have to move again. She as usual, was not keen on the idea but found it easier to swallow now that she had found an interest in Ni. Kopa and Keyah found their way over to Asani, currently being bathed once again.<br />&ldquo;Well, if it isn&rsquo;t the hero of day huh?&rdquo; Asani announced as they arrived. Kopa laughed it off and lay down before him. <br />&ldquo;What&rsquo;s up Asani?&rdquo;<br />&ldquo;Stuck looking like you used to, lying on my ass not doing a damn thing.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;I see that.&rdquo; Kopa replied. Keyah reached out and pat his paw. <br />&ldquo;Don&rsquo;t worry, I&rsquo;m sure you&rsquo;ll be back to being a pain in our ass soon.&rdquo; She joked. <br />&ldquo;Funny honey. But I can&rsquo;t believe how bad I fucked up.&rdquo; He retorted. Hakima gave him a gentle swat for his language and resumed bathing. <br />&ldquo;What do you mean?&rdquo; Kopa asked. <br />&ldquo;I let him get me from behind. I never should have let that happen, I got so distracted by you killing the big guy that I ignored my own opponent.&rdquo;<br />&ldquo;Hey now, we still won.&rdquo; He encouraged. <br />&ldquo;Yeah! You saved us from those five jerks!&rdquo; Keyah agreed. <br />&ldquo;But it should have been cleaner.&rdquo; Asani argued shaking his head. &ldquo;Bah! I&rsquo;ll have to get my focus on. Get some training in myself, focus a little less on Kopa.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;Well if you need any help, sparring partner or whatever you know who to ask.&rdquo; Kopa offered. Asani laughed and nodded. <br />&ldquo;Oh believe me I&rsquo;ll take every chance I can get to kick your tail.&rdquo; He agreed. Keyah covered her mouth as she seemed helplessly giggling. Kopa slowly turned to her, curious as to what was causing her fit. <br />&ldquo;What?&rdquo; he asked. <br />&ldquo;Asani called you Kopa.&rdquo; She informed him, still covering her mouth and giggling. Kopa thought on what he said for a moment and was shocked. He really did call him Kopa. <br />&ldquo;Yeah, he did!&rdquo; He announced. <br />&ldquo;Oh no way!&rdquo; Asani mockingly shouted. &ldquo;Jeez, what did you expect? What did I keep saying to you kid when you got of age, huh? You do something of value around here, and I&rsquo;ll give you some respect.&rdquo; He reiterated. <br />&ldquo;Thanks Asani.&rdquo; Kopa bowed. Asani shook his head.<br />&ldquo;No, you don&rsquo;t thank me. I saved you during the fight, you saved my ass. You trained; you&rsquo;ve hunted with the girls. You&rsquo;ve lived up to your end of the deal. I don&rsquo;t back down on my word.&rdquo; He explained. Kopa extended his paw to Asani, smiling he met it with a solid clap. &ldquo;Don&rsquo;t go thinking I&rsquo;m gonna go soft on you though, you&rsquo;re still a pussy till we whip you into shape.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;d expect nothing less.&rdquo; He accepted happily. Keyah leaned in, whispering softly into Kopa&rsquo;s ear. <br />&ldquo;Hey, can we go somewhere quiet?&rdquo; turning to her ear he asked.<br />&ldquo;What did you have in mind?&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;I want to give you your reward for protecting us.&rdquo; She replied with a smile. Kopa chuckled and nodded. <br />&ldquo;Asani, If you&rsquo;ll excuse us.&rdquo;<br />&ldquo;If you say so.&rdquo; Keyah and Kopa quickly darted off. They stayed nearby but found a comfortable spot to rest alongside a large tree and soft patch of grass. Keyah flung herself into Kopa&rsquo;s arms and began kissing him over and over. Eventually he settled her down and caressed her lips with long slow kisses, stoping only to catch their breath. Keyah lowered him down onto the ground, straddling him and constantly staying locked to him. Rubbing her body&rsquo;s length along his, she pulled him close refusing to break her lock. Eventually a need for air won over though and she released. <br />&ldquo;Wow!&rdquo; Kopa gasped. Keyah started licking along his chest, burying her muzzle into his mane. She was purring loudly as usual, her vibrating chest was pressing hard against his belly. <br />&ldquo;Kopa!&rdquo; She moaned. &ldquo;I need you, and I need you now!&rdquo; Slamming his eyes shut he cringed. He wanted her to, so badly. But he knew; the decision hadn&rsquo;t been made yet. <br />&ldquo;I need you to. But we just can&rsquo;t yet.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;No!&rdquo; She protested, leaning hard into his chest. &ldquo; No I won&rsquo;t wait through another. I just can&rsquo;t! I&rsquo;m coming into heat again Kopa, please I have to have you!&rdquo; She cried. He had a feeling she was. Her familiar scents were coming to him again; it was beginning to stir his desires within as well. But he had to suppress it, he had done so before. <br />&ldquo;I just, I don&rsquo;t know what to do. I can&rsquo;t do anything until-&ldquo;<br />&ldquo;Until what?&rdquo; Hakima interrupted. Keyah shot up and jumped off Kopa. He turned to her in surprised and hung his head. <br />&ldquo;Until they decide.&rdquo; He finished. <br />&ldquo;Hmm.&rdquo; Hakima pondered. Walking over to Keyah she forced her up and gave a good whiff of her backside. &ldquo;I see.&rdquo; She whispered. &ldquo;Come.&rdquo; Walking ahead for a bit she looked back to see them standing, but not moving. &ldquo;I will not ask again!&rdquo; Keyah and Kopa rushed to her side and followed her. Hakima lead them near the game trail, a fair distance from the pride and settled them down. Picking up a rock she tossed it, slamming against another large rock nearby. &ldquo; That&rsquo;s your signal.&rdquo; She stated. <br />&ldquo;Signal for what?&rdquo; Kopa asked. <br />&ldquo;When you hear the rock smash the other, dismount and return to me.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;You&rsquo;re going to let us? I mean, what about-&ldquo;<br />&ldquo;Amri is waiting on Asani&rsquo;s health to decide, but it is not fair to make one of my lionesses wait through another heat when her mate has proven worthy. You will let me handle Amri if he decides to speak of this. In the end though, who mates with my girls, is my decision.&rdquo; She stated firmly. Keyah lunged at her and hugged her tight. <br />&ldquo;Thank you greatmother. Thank you soo so much!&rdquo; She cried. Hakima chuckled and gently guided her toward Kopa. <br />&ldquo;I will take to the hill just up ahead. No reason for me to hear this huffing and puffing. When you hear the rock though, be ready to dismount Kopa. I don&rsquo;t care if you are about to go or not, you hear it you get off understand?&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;Got it.&rdquo; They agreed. Hakima smiled and wondered off toward the hill over shadowing the trail. Settling down she gave them her back, watching her pride off in the distance. <br />&ldquo;Now, where were we?&rdquo; Keyah asked, waving her hips back and forth suggestively to him. Kopa was so excited, it was finally time. He was trembling as he approached, her scent wasn&rsquo;t strong but it was without a doubt there. Keyah flung onto her back, her hind paws strewn off to either side, exposing all of her body to him. His excitment grew more and more from her enticement, the afternoon was their&#039;s. They took it for there own, Kopa fulfilled his desires and took Keyah as his mate. <br /><br />Looking down at her body, he smiled. He had really done it, he had taken her truly as a mate. As the roll of a rock became audible behind him it struck a rock catching his attention. He snapped to Hakima atop the hill who was now standing tall. Kopa rushed to Keyah&rsquo;s side and encouraged her up. <br />&ldquo;Come on, up, that&rsquo;s the signal.&rdquo; He insisted. Keyah rolled over swiftly and rose up as well, rushing over to Hakima&rsquo;s side. They could see what stirred her attention. Ni was approaching, and not far off. Kopa sat down aside Keyah and Hakima. <br />&ldquo;If he asks, you were doing your usual, cuddling kissing etcetera. Keyah, you keep that tail end on the ground.&rdquo; Hakima whispered. <br />&ldquo;Hey Kopa!&rdquo; Ni called out. <br />&ldquo;What&rsquo;s up Ni?&rdquo; He hollered back. <br />&ldquo;Want to help me move Asani to the river? He&rsquo;s been whining about no water for a bit now.&rdquo; He asked. Kopa hesitated a moment before replying. Hakima glanced to him, realizing he might still be bathed in suspicious scents. <br />&ldquo;I will help you Ni.&rdquo; Hakima called rising up. <br />&ldquo;You sure?&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;ve hauled wild beasts weighing much more than him, I&rsquo;m certain I can handle it.&rdquo; She insisted. <br />&ldquo;Alright, let&rsquo;s go.&rdquo; Ni agreed. <br />&ldquo;You two, behave now. No funny business.&rdquo; She ordered. As Hakima approached she met Ni who was smiling at her comment. <br />&ldquo;Funny business huh, why are you taking them all the way over there to &ldquo;cuddle&rdquo; anyway? They&rsquo;ve done it plenty of times around the others.&rdquo; He asked boldly. <br />&ldquo;Because it is inappropriate around Asani in his condition and to the mood over the pride right now. If they wish to dote, so be it but there&rsquo;s no reason for Asani who is in agony to be subjected to that. He was quite fond of Keyah at one time.&rdquo; She explained. <br />&ldquo;Ahh, I see. Cause by the look of it, it seemed like you were sneaking them off to-&ldquo; <br />&ldquo;Bite your tongue Ni; I praise you for your intelligence do, not force me to question that.&rdquo; She quickly snapped. <br />&ldquo;Sorry, Greatmother.&rdquo; He quickly apologized.<br /><br />As the days went on, Hakima continued to sneak Kopa and Keyah away for short times. <br />&ldquo;Asani, how are you feeling today?&rdquo; Amri asked, settling beside him. <br />&ldquo;Tired.&rdquo; He answered quietly. <br />&ldquo;Still not getting any sleep?&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;I keep rolling over hitting the cuts and waking up. It sucks.&rdquo; He stated. <br />&ldquo;Able to walk yet?&rdquo; Amri pondered. <br />&ldquo;Yep, for a while at least. Can&rsquo;t really get moving yet though, or at least I haven&rsquo;t tried.&rdquo; He explained. <br />&ldquo;Well that&rsquo;s promising, good to know Hakima&rsquo;s baths are working properly. Are you keeping them clean as well?&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;Yep, pain in the ass literally but yep. Can&rsquo;t sleep so, there&rsquo;s not much else to do aside from clean em.&rdquo; He answered rubbing his paw at his eyes. <br />&ldquo;You know I was thinking about what happened to you in the fight. Now I know you&rsquo;re already your worst critic on it but, I thought when you were feeling a bit better we could train on some kicks. Help keep attacks like that from happening, or at least reacting to them quicker.&rdquo; Amri suggested warmly. Asani yawned but nodded in agreement. <br />&ldquo;Sounds fine.&rdquo; He answered, shaking his mane out. Ni started approaching the two now, greeting them with a smile. <br />&ldquo;Hey, how&rsquo;s he doing?&rdquo; Ni asked. <br />&ldquo;Still can&rsquo;t sleep it seems.&rdquo; Amri informed him. <br />&ldquo;Been trying to all afternoon, but fuck it I&rsquo;ll just stay up another night.&rdquo; Asani added. <br />&ldquo;You know I was thinking, why don&rsquo;t you let me or Amri sleep aside you for a while. Keep you from rolling over, could help you get a decent night&rsquo;s sleep for once.&rdquo;<br />&ldquo;Nah, I&rsquo;ll be fine.&rdquo; Ni shook his head and gave him a quick hug. <br />&ldquo;Just trying to help ya Asani.&rdquo;<br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;ll be fine dude, geez relax.&rdquo; Asani insisted, pushing him back. <br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;m glad you&rsquo;re here Ni, there are a couple of things I was hoping the three of us could discuss.&rdquo; Amri announced. <br />&ldquo;Ahh, we going to talk about Kopa?&rdquo; Ni questioned eagerly. Amri smiled and nodded. <br />&ldquo;Yes, but not just him. Wet season is starting soon, I&rsquo;ve had Saeska do a few quick run outs to see where we could go. But we&rsquo;ll go into more detail in a bit here; I don&rsquo;t want to be within earshot of the pride discussing this.&rdquo; He explained. Amri got up and directed towards the stream. Asani slowly rose up and began to follow. Ni looked back, seeing Kopa and Keyah looking towards him. With a smile Ni winked at the two, Kopa started to really become excited now. <br />&ldquo;They&rsquo;re going to vote on me.&rdquo; He whispered to Keyah. She started giggling helplessly. <br />&ldquo;This is fantastic!&rdquo; She squealed. <br />&ldquo;Don&rsquo;t get your hopes up yet sis.&rdquo; Kinu interrupted. <br />&ldquo;Why not?&rdquo; Keyah asked. <br />&ldquo;It&rsquo;ll be wet season soon, maybe they&rsquo;re going to vote, maybe not but odds are we&rsquo;re moving again.&rdquo;<br />&ldquo;I suppose you could be right.&rdquo; She admitted. Kinu giggled and nuzzled her sister&rsquo;s cheek. <br />&ldquo;But you know what; I hope they do vote on him. I&rsquo;m really proud of you sis, you&rsquo;ve found someone you truly love. And Kopa?&rdquo; She asked, glancing to him. &ldquo;Welcome to the pride, little brother.&rdquo; Kopa chuckled, bowing before her. <br />&ldquo;Thanks sis.&rdquo;<br /><br />Ni, Asani and Amri gathered together near the stream. Asani took a quick drink before joining them, slowly settling his body down. Amri cleared his throat and began. <br />&ldquo;So, first things first. We have wet season approaching, you know what that means.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;Yep.&rdquo; Ni agreed. &ldquo;Gotta find a den, or thick spot in the forest to rest.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;Fuck the forest; I&rsquo;m sick of bugs crawling up my nose.&rdquo; Asani interrupted. <br />&ldquo;You and me both.&rdquo; Ni nodded. &ldquo; Not much game either and it&rsquo;s hard to track it in there.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;So I&rsquo;m assuming settling in the forest is out of the question.&rdquo; Amri asked the two. <br />&ldquo;Yeah, take a den.&rdquo; Ni said calmly. <br />&ldquo;Den.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;Alright, den it is. Saeska&rsquo;s scouting then will be of little help, she was searching the forested area far off to the east. So Ni, you know the valleys beyond it well.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;Pretty well.&rdquo; Ni acknowledged. &ldquo;Last year when we settled in the forest, near the valleys I found a few good caves. Pretty sure I can remember where they were.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;Not much to go on, but if we need a few days to find a place to settle we&rsquo;ll take it.&rdquo; Amri stated. &ldquo; You know, farther up the stream here is a waterfall, the one just down a ways of the chasms and valleys. That waterfall I&rsquo;m certain has a large den within.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;That could work, a lot of lions don&rsquo;t hide out in waterfall caves. Kind of gives us a solid element of safety.&rdquo; Ni replied thinking about it. <br />&ldquo;It&rsquo;s a little far from game trails though.&rdquo; Amri added shyly. <br />&ldquo;Ahhh, well.. See if we had a solid hiding spot like that, we could afford to stockpile kills. Take out two or three animals and just eat when we&rsquo;re hungry, that kind of thing. Hakima, Saeska, Keyah and Kinu could relay them back in teams, and honestly if it&rsquo;s a big distance we can step in and help to.&rdquo; Ni suggested. <br />&ldquo;Well called. Asani, what do you think?&rdquo; Amri asked turning to him. Asani was blinking over and over, they weren&rsquo;t sure he was even paying attention. <br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;ll agree with whatever you want to do Amri, I&rsquo;m kind of drifting in and out here. All I heard was waterfalls and relaying kills, sounds fine.&rdquo; He admitted. <br />&ldquo;Well that&rsquo;s settled then; we&rsquo;ll follow the river and cut through the forest till we hit the waterfalls. The wildebeest in the valley will make suitable food; we just have to run it back in relays through the forest.&rdquo; Amri declared.<br />&ldquo;Agreed.&rdquo; Ni answered. <br />&ldquo;Agreed.&rdquo; Asani nodded.<br />&ldquo;Good, now on to the big topic, Kopa.&rdquo; Amri announced. Ni nodded, rubbing his paws in excitement. Amri looked at him smiling shaking his head. &ldquo; You&rsquo;re going to burst if you don&rsquo;t get to vote first aren&rsquo;t you?&rdquo; he asked chuckling. Ni laughed and nodded. &ldquo;Go ahead.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;Well, it&rsquo;s no secret I&rsquo;ve grown fond of the kid. There&rsquo;s good reason, he&rsquo;s fulfilled every request given to him. He&rsquo;s trained with me and Asani, he saved Saeska on one of his first hunts and tracked down Kinu and Keyah when they were injured that same day. The kid fought with great honor and little fear in his first takeover attempt, outnumbered and completely battle fresh. I&rsquo;m excited to see what becomes of him now; I already love em like a little brother. My vote is yes, Kopa joins our pride!&rdquo; He announced happily. <br />&ldquo;Well put Ni, Asani? Would you like to vote next?&rdquo; Amri asked. <br />&ldquo;Psh, I always vote last. I prefer it. Go ahead.&rdquo; He dismissed. Amri&rsquo;s smile slowly wiped away. His face turned solemn, he was deep in thought on the matter, thinking carefully how to state his position on the matter. <br />&ldquo;I love Kopa. He&rsquo;s a wonderful child, a blessing on our pride from the heavens themselves. I&rsquo;ve told you how I came about him, but I did not tell you all of it. I have spoken with Kopa many times since the discovery of that lioness&rsquo;s body. I have encouraged him in his thinking to return home, if only to fulfill the promise made that spared him his life. I curse the day she appeared in that river, had we never seen her. I would have lovingly welcomed him not giving it a moment&rsquo;s thought. But now.&rdquo; He sighed heavily, closing his eyes. &ldquo; Now, I must bear the burden of my word. The lioness is dead; his pride was no doubt successful in defeating her. There is peace in his home, and a grieving father and mother, are unaware their child still lives.&rdquo; Amri paused for a moment, placing a hand on his heart. &ldquo;I am a father myself. I do not know the pain of losing a child, but I understand it. If I had lost Saeska, but had even a hint that somewhere she was alive I would rend the heavens and earth to find her. I cannot deprive a family of their son.&rdquo; He softly stated. Ni hung his head in sorrow. <br />&ldquo;Amri, I understand. But it&rsquo;s not fair to ask him to go home, he loves us!&rdquo;<br />&ldquo;Is it anymore fair to break the hearts of a kingdom who has lost their prince? Is it fair that, his family should suffer for our desire to keep him? Is it safe to assume that this shamanistic monkey does not know he is alive, and wouldn&rsquo;t tell them? A kingdom in rage, could empty its lands to find one so precious to them. We&rsquo;ve fought off five to four. How do you intend to win against lions that take us six to one, including Kopa?&rdquo; He asked firmly. Ni closed his eyes, turning away from Amri. &ldquo;I love him; I could say it a thousand times with no less meaning. But if he joins our pride, there is nothing to encourage him to the home that claims him.&rdquo; Amri paused for a while; closing his eyes he raised his paw. &ldquo; My vote is made, my answer is no.&rdquo; he stated, placing his paw down on the matter. Ni looked to Amri with tears in his eyes. Amri wouldn&rsquo;t meet them; it was a decision heavy on his heart. Ni turned to Asani. <br />&ldquo;Asani?&rdquo; he pleaded. Though he still seemed a little out of it, he was thinking the matter over best he could. <br />&ldquo;You&rsquo;ve lead us this far with honor, I trust in your council Amri. I&rsquo;ll admit I&rsquo;m not the kid&rsquo;s biggest fan; it&rsquo;s a stretch to say I love him. But you know what, I wanted him around, if only because of what he means to our family. But you&rsquo;re right, it&rsquo;s not right to keep him from his family. To tell you the truth, the idea of us trying to fight off a kingdom to keep him is suicide. My votes with you Amri, the answer is no.&rdquo;<br />Ni hung his head once again, choking back the tears coming down his face. <br />&ldquo;Come, we must go and inform the others.&rdquo; Amri said solemnly. <br />&ldquo;You tell them!&rdquo; Ni snapped. &ldquo;I don&rsquo;t have it in me to break the kid&rsquo;s heart.&rdquo; <br /><br />Kopa and Keyah laid next to each other, watching the sky over the stream begin to darken. Storm clouds were coming in, and Kopa was excited about this and the news he was waiting for. <br />&ldquo;Love thunderstorms.&rdquo; Kopa whispered. <br />&ldquo;Ugh, there so loud, how do you stand it?&rdquo; She asked. <br />&ldquo;Ahh, the waters so cool. And the lightning, what a show! Maybe it&rsquo;s cause for a while that was the only excitement I saw was a good storm.&rdquo; He replied. <br />&ldquo;Yeah, and then there was me trembling like a baby holding you during them!&rdquo; She added giggling. <br />&ldquo;Asani kept thinking it was me, till you wet yourself.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;You shush! You said you&rsquo;d keep that quiet!&rdquo; She hushed him, putting a paw over his mouth. <br />&ldquo;I did, doesn&rsquo;t mean he did.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;Blah, what a pig.&rdquo; She scoffed jokingly. <br />&ldquo;Oh come on. You don&rsquo;t wet yourself anymore during them&hellip;. Usually.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;You bugger!&rdquo; She shouted tackling him. They play wrestled for a bit until she pinned him down, giggling atop of him. &ldquo; What are you gonna do if I gotta go now huh?&rdquo;<br />&ldquo;Do I have to answer that?&rdquo; He laughed. She leaned down, still laughing and nuzzled his cheek. Kopa turned again to the stream and saw Amri and Asani returning. &ldquo;Oh hey, their back!&rdquo; He exclaimed, guiding her off. Regaining his poise he smiled as they approached. Something seemed off though, Asani and Amri were approaching but where was Ni? Looking a bit off to the left he spotted him, his head was slouched as he walked towards a tree, away from the pride. <br />&ldquo;What the?&rdquo; He asked softly. <br />&ldquo;Hm?&rdquo; Keyah wondered, leaning into his side. Kopa saw the faces as they came in closer. He could feel a knot forming in his stomach. It&rsquo;s not possible, there&rsquo;s just no way he thought. Looking to Ni again he slunk his body down, unwilling to join him or the others. The knot rung tighter, Kopa knew the answer before they even arrived. His chest began to ache terribly; a deep shudder ran through his body as his head hung down. <br />&ldquo;Kopa. Asani, Ni and I have spoken about you. We are very proud of the way you defended us, and we have reached a decision.&rdquo; Amri announced.<br />&ldquo;It&rsquo;s no, isn&rsquo;t it.&rdquo; He replied. Amri was taken aside by his answer. Hakima, Saeska and Kinu heard this and moved in closer to listen in.<br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;m very sorry Kopa. We love you dearly, but you must understand that-&ldquo; <br />&ldquo;Shut up!&rdquo; Kopa barked, he didn&rsquo;t want to hear it. He had worked so hard for this and had made his intentions clear. Snapping his head up he met Amri&rsquo;s face in tears. &ldquo;I&rsquo;ve done everything you have ever asked, how could you do this to me!&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;Kopa listen to me!&rdquo; Amri pleaded. &ldquo; You must let me explain, when we found that lioness that maimed you dead, I was put to my word to the one that saved your life. He made me promise, that when she fell I was to bring you home to your family.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;So now I&rsquo;m there possession? No choice but to wander home to my parents and pretend you never existed? Is that it!?&rdquo; Kopa fired angrily. <br />&ldquo;Geez, chill the fuck out Kopa!&rdquo; Asani shouted back. <br />&ldquo;Stay out of this Asani!&rdquo; Kopa snapped once more. Amri turned to Asani and pat his back. <br />&ldquo;It&rsquo;s ok Asani, let me speak with him.&rdquo; He insisted. &ldquo;Kopa, please understand that this was not something decided lightly. We made this decision in your best interest. Your family loves you; they deserve a chance to see you again.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;m dead to my family. My father watched me die in his arms. For years now, there faces were stripped from my memory. I only knew you, and this family. I struggled every day just to get back on my feet, to walk to run. Now I&rsquo;ve truly proven to myself I can stand on my own. My mother and father were not here for these things, you were. I told you again and again I do not want to go &ldquo;Home&rdquo; I was home. I fought for it, and now you deny me what you promised. You have betrayed me.&rdquo; Amri began walking over to him, desperate to comfort him. <br />&ldquo;Kopa, I told-&ldquo; Kopa roared forcing him back. Keyah staggered back as well, frightened by his sudden outburst. Kopa raised his head, the tears still flowed but his whimpering faded. He stared down at Amri in disgust. <br />&ldquo;If this is not my pride, then I must find my own place in this world.&rdquo; Kopa stated. Turning to Keyah his heart ached further. She was crying so hard, and nothing he could do could comfort her. &ldquo; You are a part of my heart Keyah. I love you, always.&rdquo; Turning away he aimed himself towards the open savannah. <br />&ldquo;Kopa!&rdquo; Amri shouted. <br />&ldquo;Stay away from me, this isn&rsquo;t my family anymore.&rdquo; He warned, as he rushed out into the savannah. Keyah was left gasping; her tears flooded her face as she watched him run. Hakima walked by her husband with anger in her eyes. She took his attention with a low growl. <br />&ldquo;Your decision, was poorly made.&rdquo; Keyah couldn&rsquo;t contain it anymore. Erupting she fell to the ground. Hakima rushed over to her and picked her up, wrapping her tight in her arms. Kinu joined her and grabbed her back, stroking her heartbroken sister. Amri turned to Keyah as well, reaching out for her. <br />&ldquo;Keyah I&rsquo;m-&ldquo;<br />&ldquo;No! Get back!&rdquo; Hakima swatted his paw. &ldquo;Husband you have done enough! Let this girl be!&rdquo; She demanded. Amri was shocked at her outburst as she immediately returned to tending to Keyah&rsquo;s hysterical crying. Walking away, Amri wandered over to Asani. Flopping down beside him he sighed and covered his face. <br />&ldquo;What have I done?&rdquo; He moaned.<br />&ldquo;You did what you thought was right.&rdquo; Asani encouraged. &ldquo;Look, it&rsquo;s all fresh to them so of course it&rsquo;s going to hurt. Give them some time, Kopa will come around to.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;I wish I could believe this boy.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;Everyone has to face there past at some point. Kopa can run from it all he wants, eventually it&rsquo;ll catch up to him whether he wants it to or not.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;But did I ask him to face it, or run from it in denying him from our pride?&rdquo; Amri asked. <br />&ldquo;Who gives a shit?&rdquo; Asani scoffed. &ldquo; You owned up to your word, acted on his best interest and he walks out. Kopa might be able to stand for himself now, but I&rsquo;ve said it a million times, he&rsquo;s still a pussy! Only pussy&rsquo;s run from their problems instead of rising to meet them.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;A little simplistic and crudely worded Asani but you have a point. But what about you? Do you feel nothing for his loss?&rdquo; Amri wondered. Asani took a deep breath. <br />&ldquo;Honestly at the moment, I don&rsquo;t care. But that could be the lack of sleep talking. I&rsquo;m going to find a spot to rest, somewhere maybe I won&rsquo;t roll over. Try to get some rest to Amri, I got your back, remember that.&rdquo;<br />&ldquo;Why is this happening!? Why!?&rdquo; Keyah cried out into Hakima&rsquo;s neck.<br />&ldquo;Easy girl easy. It&rsquo;s alright, I got you.&rdquo;Hakima hushed, stroking her head. &ldquo;Shh, it&rsquo;s ok, it&rsquo;s ok.&rdquo; Saeska had enough of watching Keyah cry. Wiping the few tears from her cheek she strolled over to Asani. He had settled near a rock, and was leaning against it somewhat for support.&nbsp;&nbsp; She stood over him. <br />&ldquo;Yes?&rdquo; He asked. Saeska didn&rsquo;t answer, she just continued to stare down at him, the same sorrowful look on her face as though someone had wounded her. &ldquo; What?&rdquo; Asani asked again. <br />&ldquo;Do you care that your brother is out in the wilds, alone?&rdquo; She asked. Asani looked away from her and settled his head in his paws. <br />&ldquo;He made his choice.&rdquo; He replied quietly.<br />&ldquo;Who&rsquo;s the &ldquo;Pussy&rdquo; now I wonder?&rdquo; She insulted, shaking her head at him. <br />&ldquo;Hey, watch it.&rdquo; He warned. Saeska ignored him and walked on. Asani scoffed off her attempt to mock him and settled his head once more. Kinu and Hakima had somewhat settled Keyah&rsquo;s crying. Though she still sniffled and whimpered in Hakima&rsquo;s arms, Kinu felt she had done all she could to ease the immediate pain. She turned now to Ni, sitting so far away aside a tree. The clouds were coming in, and the rain was spitting down in the grass. She walked over to him, as the low thunder boomed. Laying her head near his, she sniffled and kissed his cheek. Ni was shocked at her affection. <br />&ldquo;What was that for?&rdquo; He asked in surprised. <br />&ldquo;Are you ok?&rdquo; She asked softly. Ni glanced to the ground and settled his head once more. <br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;ve been a lot better.&rdquo; Kinu crawled a little closer and caressed his cheek. <br />&ldquo;I never really talked much to him, I&rsquo;ll admit. But I didn&rsquo;t want to see him go. I was looking forward to seeing my sister have cubs you know? Seeing our family grow bigger.&rdquo; She confessed, closing her eyes. <br />&ldquo;Yeah well, that&rsquo;s not the case anymore now is it?&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;There must be something we can do, isn&rsquo;t there?&rdquo; She pleaded. Ni closed his eyes cringing in pain. He didn&rsquo;t know what to do. Even if they went out after Kopa, the answer was still no from Amri and Asani. <br />&ldquo;I guess, all we can do is hope he finds a way home.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;But he just left?&rdquo; She wondered. &ldquo; Why would he come home?&rdquo; Ni couldn&rsquo;t help but wonder if she was serious. Even she knew that Kopa had a family before he was brought here. When he saw her face though, smiling. It answered his question. <br />&ldquo;Heh, you&rsquo;re right. This is his home isn&rsquo;t it?&rdquo; He asked with a smile. Kinu nodded and let a quick laugh escape. &ldquo; He&rsquo;s going to be pretty hot headed tonight. No point in chasing him down now. Hopefully he doesn&rsquo;t get far. Tomorrow, first thing, you and me, we&rsquo;ll go get him.&rdquo;<br />&ldquo;We&rsquo;ll need a good reason for ditching for a while.&rdquo; She suggested. Laughing he shook his head. <br />&ldquo;I think this is a good time to take a page from Asani. Fuck the excuses, we&rsquo;ll straight up tell them. We&rsquo;re leaving, and we&rsquo;re not coming back until we have him.&rdquo; Kinu laughed and brushed under his chin. <br />&ldquo;I like it!&rdquo;<br />&ldquo;Keep the sad face going though, don&rsquo;t let on we&rsquo;re planning this until it&rsquo;s too late.&rdquo; Ni insisted. Kinu agreed and got up. Lining herself with his body she laid down on top of him. Placing a paw atop of each of his he chuckled and kissed it. &ldquo; And this?&rdquo; He asked. <br />&ldquo;Ooo, there there poor Ni.&rdquo; She joked, stroking his mane. &ldquo;Get some rest, I can track pretty damn well, but I&rsquo;ll need some; mmm, comfortable rest to get my strength up for tomorrow.&rdquo;<br />&ldquo;Agreed. And Kinu?&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;Yes?&rdquo; She asked. Ni grabbed her paw once more and softly kissed, caressing it even before slowly releasing it. <br />&ldquo;Thank you.&rdquo;<br /><br />Kopa rushed out deep into the savannah as night descended on him. <br />He was still in shock; he couldn&rsquo;t believe it was really over. The thought brought tears to his eyes once more. Wiping his nose he tried to shake it off, he knew he didn&rsquo;t have time for this. To survive he&rsquo;d have to find somewhere to settle up for the night, and maybe hunt something small in the morning once the rain had let up. After that, was uncertainty. Kopa had never been forced to survive on his own for a long time. He had to prepare for it though; he just wasn&rsquo;t sure what to do first or where to go. <br />&ldquo;Small steps first. Come on think.&rdquo; He told himself. <br />&ldquo;If I stick near the water, I can at least keep track of where I&rsquo;m going, and have a steady supply.&rdquo; He said aloud. &ldquo;Won&rsquo;t have to look for clean pools.&rdquo; The storm was growing in intensity. Flashes of lightning were becoming frequent, and the thunder loud as it crackled from the strikes. The rain water was cool, but not cold. Being wet didn&rsquo;t really bother him so much save for the fact the tuft on his head fell, sticking to his face and occasionally covering his eye. His pace was brisk, he kept moving fast. He didn&rsquo;t want the chance that Amri or Asani was following him. The only ones he couldn&rsquo;t really outrun was Saeska or Kinu, he doubted either of them would come. <br />He ran for a good while, as the hours passed the forest grew closer and closer with each stride. It seemed like a lion, but given the dark now he wasn&rsquo;t sure. Slowly he crept over to it; his curiosity was peeked as another flash concluded his initial thought. It was a lion, lying near the stream, bleeding. He made haste now over to it. The small creature groaned as he came over. <br />&ldquo;Who&rsquo;s there? Ezea?&rdquo; He gasped. <br />&ldquo;Uhh.&rdquo; Kopa clamored for an answer. <br />&ldquo;Just finish it, please, no more.&rdquo; He begged. <br />&ldquo;What happened?&rdquo; Kopa asked. The lion raised his head, his eyes barely open. He seemed extremely disoriented. <br />&ldquo;What?... Who.. are you?&rdquo;<br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;m Kopa.&rdquo; He replied. Another flash revealed the detail of his wounds. A deep gash ran near the base of his neck and down his back. It ran quite long, about half way down his body. Dry blood was visible on his sides as well, and the wound smelt odd, sick even. &ldquo;Oh geez, what happened to you!?&rdquo; Kopa asked, rushing over to him. He didn&rsquo;t respond. Kopa looked his face over, he recognized him. It was the adolescent he fought against during the battle. &ldquo;I know you!&rdquo; Kopa proclaimed. <br />&ldquo;You.&rdquo; The boy clamored. Looking Kopa over a bit he to recognized him. &ldquo; You, you&rsquo;re the Kopa I fought.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;Yeah.&rdquo; He agreed. <br />&ldquo;Please, finish it off. It hurts so much, I just want to die.&rdquo; He pleaded.<br />&ldquo;No, I won&rsquo;t do that! You&rsquo;re just a cub really.&rdquo; Kopa refused. <br />&ldquo;I don&rsquo;t care! Just kill me! I&rsquo;m going to die anyway!&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;Why are you going to die?&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;This wound is sick. Ezea cut me so I couldn&rsquo;t clean it. It&rsquo;s been a couple of days now, I can barely walk.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;Let me have a look.&rdquo; Kopa insisted. Carefully he examined the cut along his back. It was a rather grotesque sight. The dried blood and dingy flesh had scabbed, turning black. &ldquo;Let me know if this hurts ok?&rdquo; He asked. <br />&ldquo;Ok.&rdquo; Kopa began gently pressing far outside of the wound. The boy didn&rsquo;t respond, as he moved closer he still showed no signs of pain. Near the base though, he flinched and called out. &ldquo;Ow! Ok stop!&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;Yeah, it&rsquo;s getting sick. But it&rsquo;s not as bad as you think, yet.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;What am I going to do?&rdquo; He cried, covering his face. Kopa leaned his head beside him, hushing him. <br />&ldquo;You&rsquo;ll be ok, alright? Look it&rsquo;s raining; we can clean this up now. Want me to grab a stick or something you can bite down on? I can&rsquo;t really bath it properly; I&rsquo;ll get sick if I lick it.&rdquo;<br />&ldquo;No! Don&rsquo;t please! It&rsquo;ll hurt too much! I can&rsquo;t take it!&rdquo; He rambled on. Releasing him he didn&rsquo;t hesitate to get to work. He carried him into the forest but stayed near the water&rsquo;s edge. It didn&rsquo;t take long, but he found a location he liked, a dirt shore that ran along the river. Though muddy right now, it would be one of the few places not coated in insects, he hoped. <br />&ldquo;Least there shouldn&rsquo;t be many bugs here.&rdquo; He thought aloud. The boy&rsquo;s eyes started blinking, he was stirring awake. Kopa settled down face to face with him and smiled. &ldquo;Hey, you alright?&rdquo; He asked. <br />&ldquo;What did you do to me?&rdquo; He asked, scratching his head. <br />&ldquo;I had to put you down for a minute so I could clean up that gash. It&rsquo;s looking a little better.&rdquo; He explained. The boy riled his shoulders a little cringing in pain. It still hurt, but a little of the ache had definitely been removed.<br />&ldquo;Thanks, but. Why are you helping me?&rdquo; He wondered. Kopa&rsquo;s eyes shot to the ground then back to him. <br />&ldquo;Well I couldn&rsquo;t just leave you there to die.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;You&rsquo;re weird.&rdquo; He scoffed lightly. <br />&ldquo;Why is that weird?&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;m an outcast, don&rsquo;t I deserve to die?&rdquo; He questioned. Kopa gave a quick laugh before replying. <br />&ldquo;Yeah well, you&rsquo;re not the only one.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;What? You have a pride, you guys beat us.&rdquo; Kopa shook his head, settling it between his paws. <br />&ldquo;We did. But apparently I&rsquo;m not one of them. They want me to go to my old home, and forget all about them.&rdquo;<br />&ldquo;You have two homes?&rdquo; The boy asked in surprise. <br />&ldquo;It&rsquo;s a long story. I&rsquo;ll tell you about it later. Hey, what was your name again?&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;Nathari.&rdquo; <br />&ldquo;Nice to meet you Nathari.&rdquo; Kopa greeted warmly offering him his paw. Nathari laughed a bit and clapped his paw. <br />&ldquo;Nice to meet you to, weirdo. I mean Kopa.&rdquo; Kopa joined him laughing, settling alongside his new friend for the night. <br /><br /></span>",
