With the ice retreating back, green slithered in to take its place. Everyone rejoiced by basking lazily in the sun's gentle rays as grass sprouted beneath them. Maya too enjoyed the merciful spring and snuck out of her yard on days when she and her owner had no work. When she did, she always spent her time out with Ramsay.\n\n The two would push and chase each other on one day and walk together in gentle silence on another. The streets seemed to cease violence for the time as well. Maya noticed Ramsay had fewer battle wounds and his eyes burned less callously.\n\n One day, Maya snuck out of her yard, as she did many times before, with Ramsay waiting for her on the other side of the fence.\n\n “Looks like you can jump any fence with ease, now.” Ramsay teased.\n\n “What can I say, it's in my blood to be incredible.~” Maya replied with her tongue out.\n\n “But of course.”\n\n “You know what I want to do today?” She pondered as she started down the sidewalk.\n\n “Hm?” Ramsay followed.\n\n “I want to go see the public garden. I haven't had the chance to see all the beautiful flowers bloom. Do you mind?” Maya asked as she fluttered her eyes.\n\n “Not at all.” Ramsay retorted whilst throwing her a smirk.\n\n To Maya’s excitement, the garden indeed blossomed from its winter slumber. It was an enclosed area with high walls covered in sprouting vines and the air was drenched in an aromatic smell that seeped out from inside. Once passed the entrance, a sea of emerald greens, royal purples, and deep ocean blues flooded the dogs’ eyes. There were even colors that they swore they had never seen before. The hues of the garden were further complimented by the animals who busily carried on with their daily duties. Robins and hummingbirds flittered around the trees and golden honey bees gently kissed the flowers.\n\n Maya, entranced by it all, began to make her way deeper into the garden. Ramsay followed closely making note that the garden became more labyrinthian as they continued on. The walkways became more tighter and twisted, until finally, they had reached the gardens center.\n\n There, a fountain with a concrete pair of lovers entwined in an eternal dance towered over the garden. Roses with spear-like thorns guarded the lover’s fountain from all who wished to step in.\n\n “It’s beautiful, isn't it?” Maya whispered with her eyes locked on the fountain.\n\n “It is.” Ramsay agreed solemnly.\n\n Maya held her breath, “actually, now that I think about it, I was wondering something.”\n\n “Yes?” Ramsay glanced over to Maya.\n\n “Well, how do you feel about us?”\n\n “I don’t quite understand.”\n\n “It’s simple really,” Maya said softly, “we have been seeing each other a lot lately. What’s a girl to think when someone like yourself spends so much time with her?”\n\n “That I enjoy your company.”\n\n “...Don’t you feel the way I do?”\n\n Ramsay closed his eyes and sighed before turning to her to ask, “Why?”\n\n “Why do I feel this way? Why feel anything at all? Why not develop an ache in my heart to see you struggle day in and day out on these streets? Why not see that murderous glare in your eyes fade away and think it was because of something between us? Any other dog would have to be mad to think about you turning a new life after the way you treated me when we first met!” Maya’s heart thrummed so loudly, she was sure Ramsay could hear it. “Why do I feel this way? Maybe it’s because I’m just a dog stupid enough to! But my question to you is, don’t you feel the same way too?!”\n\n Ramsay clenched his jaw tightly in both confusion and frustration, the conversation had taken a sudden drastic turn he hadn’t expected it to go. “But why?!” he snapped, “Why… how?” The once cheerful and busy noises of the garden had vanished, as the air grew thick and uninviting. In all the time Maya had spent with him, she had never once heard his voice sound so strained. “Maya, you have seen what I have done, what I do. On top of it all, you're right. Why did you continue to even see me of your own accord after what you’ve witnessed, and most of all, what I've done to you.”\n\n “Knucklehead,” Maya mumbled as her eyes welled with tears, “you weren’t listening. I told you, you're not the same dog I met in that alley half a year ago.”\n\n Ramsay let out a dark, half-hearted chuckle, “That’s where you’re wrong, my dear.” his eyes widened as they gleamed savagely, “I’m a murderer, I revel in the bloodshed and cries I elicit in my opponents, I ravage and pillage territories by the day. I assure you, that I have not changed. And I highly doubt you honestly thought I had ceased my activities. And so, I wonder and ask… why do you continue to see me? A symbol of justice such as yourself, to even tolerate me...? How could you feel whatever it is you feel for me knowing of my nature? Especially, wanting to commit to a relationship with me?”\n\n “Then why didn't you kill me? Why did you help me when the Misfits had me outmatched? Even now, I don't see as many wounds on you as before. I don't doubt you still do what you do, but if what you say is true and you are as you were when we met, then why do you still bother to see me then?”\n\n It was the second time that Maya had Ramsay stumped, which only further added weight to his frustration. She simply wouldn’t relent! His eyes narrowed, as his thoughts darted around in his head to attempt to come up with some form of response, he heard Maya sigh.\n\n “Ramsay,” her voice softly called to him, “I know that what I’m feeling doesn’t entirely add up… hell, I don’t even know how to explain it. But, I…” she looked to the ground, hesitating for a moment, before looking up to meet his glare and utter the words Ramsay had been avoiding... words he hadn’t heard in his life for years, “I love you.”\n\n “...” Ramsay was utterly speechless, his eyes widened as his fur bristled.\n\n “Please,” Maya begged, lowering her head, “tell me you feel the same way too...”\n\n Moments of silence passed and Maya’s heart began to constrict inside her chest, she was about ready to get up and sprint back home from humiliation. That is, until she heard the shuffling of movement in front of her. She looked up to now find Ramsay inches away from her. He gently rested one paw on her waist, before slowly leaning down and placing his lips onto hers. When they pulled apart, Ramsay wiped the tears from Maya’s eyes and smiled gently.\n\n “Is that your way of making it official? Stealing a girl’s first kiss?” Maya joked through her crying.\n\n He shook his head, “Knucklehead.”\n----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------\n\nPrevious: https://inkbunny.net/s/1867108\n","description_bbcode_parsed":"<span style='word-wrap: break-word;'>&nbsp;&nbsp; With the ice retreating back, green slithered in to take its place.
