“And why can't I come along?” Buster asked as he trailed behind Meera towards the exit of the junkyard.\n\n “I just need a day for me to be with myself. Even I, with my vast well of patience, can't keep smelling your bad breath and listen to terrible jokes all day without a break.” Meera cheekily replied.\n\n “You're breaking my heart, doll face.” Buster spat back as they drew near the opening. “I guess I'll just stay around here and find something to do…”\n\n “I know you can't live without my company anymore, but I'll be back soon. I promise!” She coyly said while fluttering her eyes.\n\n “Ah get outta here!” Buster shooed at her, “When YOU finally start to miss me, I'll be right here!” With a quick huff, Buster trotted towards an old squeaky sofa and plopped onto it, back turned to face Meera.\n\n Meera chortled at Buster’s immaturity as she stepped outside and made her way towards the park. She needed to clear her head. Though not because of Buster's halitosis or his bad jokes, not really. The dewed grass moistened her paw pads as she pressed on.\n\n Not long after entering the park, near a pond where ducks and geese honked wildly, Meera found what she was looking for. A small memorial rose from the ground bearing a black marbled face, and gold words that proudly proclaimed: Dedicated to the memory of the duo whom were lost on the call of duty, Officer Arthur Graham and his canine partner, Maya. Your legacy lives on.\n\n Meera lied down near the plaque. She breathed in deeply before sighing shortly. “Hi, Mom.” Meera softly called.\n\n Meera sat in silence near the stone, almost begging for a reply. However, only a whistling wind answered her. The chatter of both man and beast fell away from Meera as she pondered and thought. It was not Buster that drew her to need space, but a dream of her mother.\n\n Meera could not remember if the dream was a memory or a figment of her mind. However, she did remember the warm love between a mother and a child that swelled in Meera’s chest when she slept. It was all swept away with a loud pop and a tepid feeling remained. When Meera awoke, she felt a tear roll down her face and no sight of her beloved mother.\n\n Now, there Meera sat at a glorified tombstone where her mother may not actually be buried, looking for something she wasn't sure what she was looking for. A wave of emotions steadily built up in Meera’s throat. She began to curse at her mother’s human for keeping her on duty. She also cursed her mother for not going against her human; for not staying with the one who needed her most.\n\n Tears leaked down Meera’s face and she dug her claws into the turf. She knew she was being selfish, she knew she was being unreasonable, she knew she shouldn’t be so angry. And yet, despite her guilt she couldn’t help but feel as though she had a right to be.\n\n Meera's ears rang from her heavy breathing, but in the distance she heard… laughter? She quickly rubbed her eyes and turned to see the commotion. A family of dogs with their humans walked through the park laughing at a merry pace. The pups played with the father and mother as their humans watched lovingly from a distance. The innocent love they all shared twisted Meera's heart.\n\n “What if…” Meera caught herself saying as she gazed back to the black memorial.\n----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------","description_bbcode_parsed":" “And why can't I come along?” Buster asked as he trailed behind Meera towards the exit of the junkyard.

“I just need a day for me to be with myself.
