“Ya know what? I want to go on a real adventure today!” Buster announced to no one in particular. The day itself was extraordinarily ordinary and no matter what Buster or Meera suggested to do, the other refused.\n\n “What do you have in mind?” Meera asked.\n\n “I'm not sure… Oh! How about we go into the sewers? Who knows what we can find in there!” Buster suggested.\n\n “I definitely think that's a horrible idea.” Meera replied with a scowl on her face. “I think the smell in the junkyard is strong enough! But why not try the mines?”\n\n “The what?”\n\n “Yeah, the mines. They’re excavation areas the humans use in the caves deep in the forest. My dad told me about them when he used to take me out to practice hunting.” explained Meera, “Why don’t we try that?”\n\n “That actually sounds like the best idea we had all day! Good thinking, dollface.” Buster agreed.\n\n So they had made tracks to the town’s local mine. The sun was still high in the sky when they arrived to the facility and the miners were all hard at work looking for the next jackpot. Meera and Buster watched from afar as the miners marched like ants to and from the mouth of the cave. It was not long until a hoarse roar of a train whistle stopped all of them in their trails. Loudly, they dropped their loads with pained grunts and began to wind down for a break. The rest exited the cave for a fresh breath of air, leaving the cave empty.\n\n There, Buster and Meera crept in and began to make their way deep into the caverns. The walls were lit up by lights that had been set up by the miners, making it easier for them to see where they were going. Jagged spires shot out of the ground and ceiling, and water slithered from the walls.\n\n “Oh boy, so this is what it looks like to be in Reggie's mouth.” Buster mumbled to himself. Meera couldn’t help but let out a giggle that echoed throughout the tunnels.\n\n “Woah.” Meera gasped, “This place is creepier then I imagined.” as she continued to gawk at the dim and grim atmosphere.\n\n “Don't you worry your pretty little head off, I'll get us to the parts of the cave untouched by humans.” Buster boasted as he sauntered to an unlit tunnel. He stuck his head in and called back to Meera, “Hey, it's not that dark in here! Come on, let's see what's-” Buster was cut off by his own screams as he disappeared in the blink of an eye.\n\n Meera rushed to the tunnel. “Buster! Don't worry, I'm-” she too was cut off as she plummeted down a slippery slope. Were they more observant, they would have noticed the sign near the entrance that read: Do Not Enter. P.s. get wood to board up this tunnel.\n\n Meera continued to descend down the slope until she finally hit the ground. However, when she began to compose herself, she noticed that what she was lying on was warm and rather soft.\n\n “My back…” Buster moaned from underneath.\n\n “Oh, gosh! I'm so sorry!” Meera exclaimed as she stumbled to her feet. “Are you okay?”\n\n “Yeah, yeah. Like a breath of fresh air.” Buster uttered as he struggled to stand. “Swell, looks like we're not going back that way.” He continued as he peered back up the slope to the small flared light above.\n\n “Yeah, I guess not.” Meera sighed. She looked behind her towards the dark and dampened tunnel. “Well, let’s just go down this way and try to find another exit.”\n\n “Sounds good to me. Come on, let's get moving.”\n\n “Hold on now.” Meera insisted, “Maybe I should lead the way. Following you is what got us into this mess.”\n\n “What're you talkin’ about?”\n\n “If you hadn’t just rushed down the tunnel we wouldn’t be down here.”\n\n “You forgetting something dollface? You didn’t fare much better than me!”\n\n “Hey! I only rushed in there cause I heard you scream bloody murder, I was-” but before she could finish she stopped herself abruptly.\n\n “You were what?” Buster retorted. Feeling the odd change in the atmosphere.\n\n Meera simply sighed, “Nothing. Look, lets just… be a little more careful. Who knows what else can happen in this creepy place.” as she walked past Buster and trekked into the tunnel carefully. Buster begrudgingly followed as there were no other options. \n\n The tunnel opened up into a vast cavern with twisted columns carved from thousands of years of decay. Dim blue lights barely reached the ground from the ceiling. No man could have seen the ground in front of him in it, yet the two dogs barely managed to scope the whole room of its gloomy decorum. Critters with large eyes and hundreds of limbs scattered in the dog’s presence and watched like phantoms in the night.\n\n It felt like they walked for hours with no change in sight. The dim light grew even fainter and the freezing water they constantly trudged through made their bones ache. Though it was in the middle of summer, the two swore they began to see their breath in the air.\n\n “I need to take a break. My legs are killin’ me.” Buster huffed as he shook the water out off one his legs.\n\n “I could go for a break too, actually. It's going to be a while until we find a way out.” Meera agreed, “Let's rest on that dry spot over there.”\n\n Stranded in the shallow water was a flat mound large enough to fit the pair with room to spare. Once atop of it, Buster and Meera began to groom themselves of the excess water. However, Buster could not get over the chill that settled in his body, even with his legs dried.\n\n “Are you okay over there?” Meera asked when she turned to notice Buster shaking.\n\n “Yeah, I'll warm up in a bit. My flame don't go out that easy!” Buster chuckled to save face. As time passed, this proved not to be the case. He began to tremble uncontrollably as his body lost heat. Meera saw this gradual process and she couldn't stand it anymore. She got up from her spot and laid next to Buster's side with her long fur pressed firmly next to his. His breathing steadied and he felt the warmth radiating from her.\n\n “Hey dollface, I thought I told you-” Buster quickly hushed himself when he realized that Meera was lightly snoring. She was just as exhausted as he. He stared softly for a moment before lying his head down. Soon, he too drifted to sleep as the light escaped the cavern for the night.\n\n A bright blue light poked at Buster’s eye, waking him up. When his eyes focused, he found the sunlight from cracks in the ceiling were hitting Meera’s forehead decoration. He looked around and remembered they were lost. He stretched and the kinks from the rough sleep unwinded. He smacked his lips then turned to Meera. \n\n “Rise and shine, Sleeping Beauty!” He announced as his voice carried far and wide.\n\n “Oh man,” Meera groaned as she sluggishly stood. “My head feels like it got kicked by a mule.”\n\n “Well let's get outta here then. We'll get some grub and that'll make you right as rain” Buster assured.\n\n “We can't be far from an exit. We can still see the sun from here. That means were not that deep down.” Meera suggested as she stared at the holes in the ceiling. She hopped off of the little island they were on and into the water with Buster following suit. Time flew by before the water had ended and the ground started to funnel towards a bright entrance.\n\n “Ah ha!” Meera proclaimed, “I knew it! I knew I'd find the exit!”\n\n “Oh, shove off!” Buster swore. “Any dog half blind and dumb could have made it outta here the same way by walking straight too!”\n\n “Maybe so, but you got us into this mess, and I got us out. Just like I thought I would.” Meera stated matter-of-factly with sassy whips of her tail. Buster stared upwards to curb his annoyance as they trotted towards the opening. Meera stopped with a jolt and Buster bumping into her. Buster corrected himself and saw Meera staring into another tunnel near the opening.\n\n “Hey tutes, whatcha looking at?” Buster asked as he tried to follow Meera’s eyes.\n\n “Don't you see that light in there?” Meera mumbled as she began to step towards the tunnel.\n\n “We can come back later, I'm sick of this cave!” Buster complained as the exit called his name.\n\n “One moment isn't going to kill you. Give me a minute.” Meera replied as she began to enter the tunnel. As Buster followed, he noticed that the tunnel was getting smaller and smaller until they began to crawl. When Buster decided he had enough Meera popped out of the tunnel into a larger indigo room. Gemstones cover the walls, floor and ceiling like splintered glass. Sapphires glowed in deep red, violet, sprinkle of orange, but mostly in the vivid blue it is known for.\n\n Buster's eyes began to hurt from all the color, yet when he turned to Meera, it was as if the irritation had evaporated, leaving peace. The way the various purples and other colors striped her bright coat, and the way her blue eyes seemed to glimmer brilliantly in the dark, entranced his vision and Buster could not look away.\n\n Meera turned to him and said, “It's beautiful in here, isn't it?”\n\n “Yeah,” Buster said under his breath.\n\n “I'm going to have to come back here and get all of these things out. They'd be perfect for my collection!” she cheered gleefully as she began to search for her first prize of many. “What luck! Here's one that's loose!” Meera gasped as she began tugging on a gemstone like a farmer would on a sturdy vegetable. She returned to Buster with the gem in her mouth.\n\n“Ready when you are!” Meera announced muffledly. \n\n As Buster stepped aside to let Meera into the tunnel first, in the distance a gruff voice grunted, “Fire in the hole!” and a thunderous rumble rocked the room. The room itself started to collapse giving chase to stop Meera and Buster. Their hearts were in their throats as they passed through the narrow passage. Their crawl turned from a brisk walk, into a full blown sprint as they narrowly escaped the exit.\n\n “Whoa, that was crazy! Thank heavens we-” Meera paused “Oh no! Where's my gem?! I was just holding it, I must have dropped it!” Meera began to panic as she tried to recollect the placement of the jewel. While at the same time, Buster stepped forward, placed a paw on her shoulder and spat out the missing sapphire.\n\n “Don't ask, but you dropped it. You Deserve it.” Buster winked at Meera. Meera howled and pranced like a deer at her most rare prize.\n\n “You don't know what this meant for me, thank you so much!” She cried enthusiastically.\n\n “No problem, let's go eat and sleep. I’m done with stupid adventures.”\n----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------","description_bbcode_parsed":" “Ya know what? We'll get some grub and that'll make you right as rain” Buster assured.

    “We can't be far from an exit. We can still see the sun from here. That means were not that deep down.” Meera suggested as she stared at the holes in the ceiling. She hopped off of the little island they were on and into the water with Buster following suit. Time flew by before the water had ended and the ground started to funnel towards a bright entrance.

    “Ah ha!” Meera proclaimed, “I knew it! I knew I'd find the exit!”

    “Oh, shove off!” Buster swore. “Any dog half blind and dumb could have made it outta here the same way by walking straight too!”

    “Maybe so, but you got us into this mess, and I got us out. Just like I thought I would.” Meera stated matter-of-factly with sassy whips of her tail. Buster stared upwards to curb his annoyance as they trotted towards the opening. Meera stopped with a jolt and Buster bumping into her. Buster corrected himself and saw Meera staring into another tunnel near the opening.

    “Hey tutes, whatcha looking at?” Buster asked as he tried to follow Meera’s eyes.

    “Don't you see that light in there?” Meera mumbled as she began to step towards the tunnel.

    “We can come back later, I'm sick of this cave!” Buster complained as the exit called his name.

    “One moment isn't going to kill you. Sapphires glowed in deep red, violet, sprinkle of orange, but mostly in the vivid blue it is known for.

    Buster's eyes began to hurt from all the color, yet when he turned to Meera, it was as if the irritation had evaporated, leaving peace. The way the various purples and other colors striped her bright coat, and the way her blue eyes seemed to glimmer brilliantly in the dark, entranced his vision and Buster could not look away.

    Meera turned to him and said, “It's beautiful in here, isn't it?”

    “Yeah,” Buster said under his breath.

    “I'm going to have to come back here and get all of these things out. They'd be perfect for my collection!” she cheered gleefully as she began to search for her first prize of many. “What luck! Here's one that's loose!” Meera gasped as she began tugging on a gemstone like a farmer would on a sturdy vegetable. She returned to Buster with the gem in her mouth.

“Ready when you are!” Meera announced muffledly.

    As Buster stepped aside to let Meera into the tunnel first, in the distance a gruff voice grunted, “Fire in the hole!” and a thunderous rumble rocked the room. The room itself started to collapse giving chase to stop Meera and Buster. Their hearts were in their throats as they passed through the narrow passage. Their crawl turned from a brisk walk, into a full blown sprint as they narrowly escaped the exit.

    “Whoa, that was crazy! Thank heavens we-” Meera paused “Oh no! Where's my gem?! I was just holding it, I must have dropped it!” Meera began to panic as she tried to recollect the placement of the jewel. While at the same time, Buster stepped forward, placed a paw on her shoulder and spat out the missing sapphire.

    “Don't ask, but you dropped it. You Deserve it.” Buster winked at Meera. Meera howled and pranced like a deer at her most rare prize.

    “You don't know what this meant for me, thank you so much!” She cried enthusiastically.

    “No problem, let's go eat and sleep. I’m done with stupid adventures.”
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------","writing":"","writing_bbcode_parsed":"","pools_count":0,"title":"Love is Brightest in the Dark","deleted":"f","public":"t","mimetype":"image/png","pagecount":"1","rating_id":"0","rating_name":"General","ratings":[],"submission_type_id":"1","type_name":"Picture/Pinup","guest_block":"f","friends_only":"f","comments_count":"0","views":"16","sales_description":null,"forsale":"f","digitalsales":"f","printsales":"f","digital_price":""}
