The sun peeked over the horizon and its warm rays kissed everything in their reach, Meera finally could see the edge of her hometown as she followed a dusty dirt road. Memories of both better and worse times started flooding her mind as she sombered in to town. Meera is the daughter of a notorious street dog and a fearless police dog. Having returned to her hometown to visit her father after a long absence, she recognized the familiar air of the community she spent her youth in. The freedom of street packs echoed through the streets as she trotted into town. The sun was rising, the birds whistled. She hummed to herself as she made her way through the streets. Having a grumbling stomach and a parched tongue from the long trip gave Meera the good idea to enjoy a small meal before meeting with her father to catch up. The thought of finding something tasty allowed her to pick up pace and take a shortcut through the old junkyard. The splinters, rust and rotting food filled the dump high into the sky.\n\n ‘It's bigger than I remembered’, she thought. She carefully made her way through the bayou of broken glass and sludge when she heard someone whimpering. Curiosity got the best of her and she peeked around a corner of a broken wagon to find a large black and brown dog caught under a mountain of twisted wood and jagged metal.\n\n “Hey buddy, are you okay?” she cautiously asked. The dusty dog let out a pained yawn before straining to open his eyes. When he finally focused enough to see Meera staring at him, it was like life was injected directly back into his worn body.\n\n “FINALLY, somebody came to help ol Buster outta this dump!” he enthusiastically barked “Hey doll face, ya mind giving me a paw here?” Her face of concern turned into a jeer and she rolled her eyes.\n\n “How can I help you?”\n\n “I don't care how, just get this here junk off me!” he groaned as he struggled to stand. The scrap started to creak and grate as he moved about.\n\n “Alright, alright, take it easy there big guy, let me just take some of this stuff off and see if we can get you out.”\n\n “I guess.” Buster sighed lying back down, “Just don't take too long alright? I've been under here for three days and I'm starvin’!”\n\n “You’re welcome, pal!” Meera heckled as she started to climb the rank hill. She began to tug away some of the scrap just above Buster when she felt the sway of the hill rock at her paws.\n\n “Hey, hey, hey! What're you tryin to do up there, cause an avalanche?!” Buster called from the below. Her heart started to race as the tremors became worse. She had to think fast, the heap was going to collapse at any moment! Without missing a beat, she leapt from the above him back to the ground.\n\n “You're not leavin me are ya?!”, panicked Buster.\n\n “Shut up and push!” Meera replied as she positioned herself under some of the rotted lumber and began to lift. She struggled to heave up the timber, but it was just enough to give Buster space to start shimmying from under the heap. The heavy pots, broken vehicles and large appliances began to lose their balance at the top. Snaps and shattering glass indicated their plummet to where Meera and Buster were. “Hurry! I can't hold on!” Meera struggled to utter. With a satisfying pop, Buster finally freed himself giving them both moments to spare from the heap’s collapse.\n\n Heavily panting, it was done. After three days of being trapped without food or water, Buster was finally free. Yet deep down, he felt a burning in his chest. ‘Three days’, he thought, ‘Three days they all left me there. Those traitors, all of ‘em, including Tramp and his bratty kid.’\n\n “Hey pal, you're not looking so good. You're not gonna throw up are you?” Returning from his thoughts, he glanced over to see Meera’s gaze on him. How rude of him not to properly thank his savior… and possibly new right hand man, er, dog. With a toothy grin, he lowered his head to meet her at eye level.\n\n “Hey, dollface-” he cooed.\n\n “It’s Meera, champ.” she replied shortly with a cocked eyebrow.\n\n “Meera, right, what a beautiful name!”, Buster continued without missing a beat. “I gotta say, you really saved my tail back there, is there anyway I can repay a young lady like yourself?”\n\n “No problem, just doing my good deed for the day.” she jokingly remarked, holding her head high, “maybe another time though!” She turned away to continue on her short venture while giving a small smile to Buster before leaving. Not wanting to miss the chance to start another crew, Buster sprinted to cut her off before she could get any further.\n\n “No, no, no, I insist! How about it, I can take ya to my favorite spot in town!”, Buster declared, “Besides, I've been under that junk for a long time, I might need a little help goin’ from place to place.” he attempted to give a endearing, innocent face, but due to the way he looked, his face crumpled into a wrinkled mess.\n\n “Weeell, I’d love to, but I really got to get to my Dad-” Meera urged.\n\n “Alright, alright. How about this, I take you to get some grub, then you can go see your pappy, that don't sound like a bad idea, right?” asked Buster confidently.\n\n A grumble in her stomach sealed her fate. Whatever this strange dog had in mind sounded a lot better to her than being lucky and finding something decent by chance. “I suppose, if it's your favorite spot.” she muttered sheepishly. ‘He doesn't seem that bad anyway’, she thought.\n\n “I'd thought you'd change your mind! Let's get a move on so your paps don't start missin’ ya!” Buster responded excitedly. For a dog who was on the brink of starvation, he was able to keep a consistent speed for several streets. Finally, they reached a littered alleyway.\n\n In the time that Meera had been gone, quite a bit had changed. While the main streets and large landmarks remained the same, many stores and buildings changed. New names, fresh coats of paint and reconstruction in some places left her a little lost. ‘I hope I can still find Reggie’s place’, she thought to herself as they went deeper into the alley.\n\n Suddenly, Buster stopped in the middle of the alley, “Alright, baby doll, here we are!” Meera couldn’t help but be slightly confused.\n\n “Where’s here, exactly?”, she asked\n\n “My favorite spot to grub in town! Sorry, I'd love to take you somewhere like Tony’s, but, ya know, *cough* got banned from there. *cough*” Buster wheezed to keep his low profile. “But enough of that!” And then with a swift kick, an inconspicuous trash can emptied a smorgasbord of sausages, meats and cheeses. The sour, savory aroma from the forgotten cold cuts made their mouths drip with anticipation. Proudly, Buster finally proclaimed, “Let's chow down!”\n\n Meera gorged herself to some particularly smelly wheel of extra soft mozzarella while Buster chewed on some rather sour and juicy kielbasa. It had been a long time since she had such a savory meal. The strong zest made her eyes water slightly and had made it, without a doubt, her favorite food.\n\n “So,” Buster started with a full mouth, “you from around here, or somethin’? I don't think I've seen someone like you before.”\n\n “I used to, but then I just had to get some space from this place and I wandered around for a bit.” said Meera as she gulped down another bite of cheese.\n\n “So, now you're home sick, huh?”\n\n “Maybe, I mostly came to see my dad, but it's good to see my hometown again. While we're on introductions,” Meera added, “how'd you get under that pile in the junkyard?” At this, Busters eyebrows furrowed slightly.\n\n “You ever heard of the Tramp?” asked Buster as he swilled the last of his sausage links.\n\n “Heard the name and the general idea of what he’s about. Why?” she asked.\n\n “We used to be partners, then he left me at the side lines for some stuffy pedigree dame. Years later after gaining a crew of my very own, I took his son under my wing ‘cause he didn't have what it took to raise a proper junkyard dog. Next thing I know, Tramp shows his face again, snatches his kid and my crew right from under me, and then they all left me to die.”\n\n “Wow, that doesn't sound like the Tramp that everyone talks about at all.”\n\n “Yeah, well that's what happened. If you were there, you'd understand.” Buster snorted giving a long stretch before returning to that smug toothy grin. “But now that I’m free, I'm gonna nab myself another crew and start over. After some hard considerin’, I was wonderin’ if you'd have the honor of being the first member?”\n\n “Is that so?” Meera chuckled.\n\n “In this dog-eat-dog world we live in, I need members, I can trust. You could've left me there in the dirt, and you trusted me comin’ here. I think that maybe we can be a pretty good team. Plus, I’m still not in the best shape. You wouldn't leave me like this, would ya?” Buster smugly asked.\n\n “I'll have to think about it, but if you keep impressing me like with today's meal, I might just accept.” Meera replied coyly.\n\n “Well, you think about it. In the meantime, how ‘bout I walk you to your pops.\n\n “What a gentleman!” she replied sarcastically as they both made their way back to the entrance of the alley.\n\n “What can I say? I'm a bleedin’ romantic at heart! By the way, who's your pops? Maybe I know him?”\n\n “Maybe! His name is Ramsay. Sound familiar?”\n\n “...you gotta be kiddin’ me.”\n----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------\n\nNext: https://inkbunny.net/s/1859278\n","description_bbcode_parsed":" The sun peeked over the horizon and its warm rays kissed everything in their reach, Meera finally could see the edge of her hometown as she followed a dusty dirt road. After some hard considerin’, I was wonderin’ if you'd have the honor of being the first member?”

    “Is that so?” Meera chuckled.

    “In this dog-eat-dog world we live in, I need members, I can trust. You could've left me there in the dirt, and you trusted me comin’ here. I think that maybe we can be a pretty good team. Plus, I’m still not in the best shape. You wouldn't leave me like this, would ya?” Buster smugly asked.

    “I'll have to think about it, but if you keep impressing me like with today's meal, I might just accept.” Meera replied coyly.

    “Well, you think about it. In the meantime, how ‘bout I walk you to your pops.

    “What a gentleman!” she replied sarcastically as they both made their way back to the entrance of the alley.

    “What can I say? I'm a bleedin’ romantic at heart! By the way, who's your pops? Maybe I know him?”

    “Maybe! His name is Ramsay. Sound familiar?”

    “...you gotta be kiddin’ me.”
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Next: https://inkbunny.net/s/1859278
","writing":"","writing_bbcode_parsed":"","pools_count":0,"title":"Old Town, New Faces","deleted":"f","public":"t","mimetype":"image/png","pagecount":"1","rating_id":"0","rating_name":"General","ratings":[],"submission_type_id":"1","type_name":"Picture/Pinup","guest_block":"f","friends_only":"f","comments_count":"0","views":"49","sales_description":null,"forsale":"f","digitalsales":"f","printsales":"f","digital_price":""}
