(This story is a slight expansion to “A Kid’s One of a Kind Climb.” It’s not required to read that story first, but just thought I’d bring that up for anyone who cares.) Even as the afternoon approaches its end, those Electric-type tots don’t have any less energy at night. WADDLE! WADDLE! WADDLE! Sporting a striped red shirt and his plain white pampers, Pablo promptly proves this point as he waddles laps around the living room, clearly getting a lot more cardio compared to his parents content to chill on the couch. Naturally, knowing he's safe and in sight, the two Raichus remain relaxed while their son romps around. WADDLE! WADDLE! WA- However, the playful Pichu soon longs for more than walking laps and suddenly comes to a stop, now wanting to take his energy elsewhere as a certain sky-high structure calls his name. Gleefully giggling all the while, Pablo toddles out of the living room and to the stairs leading to the second story, to that familiar flight of steps so full of fun. “Woooooooah!” Although not a stranger to such a sight, to the two year old still on the smaller side, any elevated surface is like a giant skyscraper, exponentially so in the case of the carpeted staircase and its grand total of ten steps. For several moments, Pablo simply stares at the stairs with an awestruck expression, still immensely impressed by what’s otherwise a simple structure to many. Of course, the kid also knows the staircase is so much more than a sculpture to stare at, for it’s also the perfect place for playtime pursuits. POOF! Now standing on his fours, Pablo presses his hands onto the first step, enjoying the soft sensations of its carpeted surface, amused by the sight of his hands slightly sinking into the material. As amazing as this already is, the toddler knows its tactile sensations are solely a singular aspect of all the fun to be had on the stairs. Left hand. Right hand. Left foot. Right foot. Set to commence another climb, Pablo playfully laughs as he slowly starts up the steps, enjoying the sense of progression that comes with such stairs, so fond of the thrills of climbing higher and higher. After only ascending the third step, his active imagination is quickly put to use, now depicting himself as a seasoned adventurer enduring another voyage burdened by breezier blizzards than before, the staircase now another mountain to be scaled. Left hand. Right hand. Left foot. Right foot. The Pichu flawlessly makes his way to step number four, his conviction unwavering even in the face of fictitious freezing temperatures, his steel resolve leaving him unshaken in spite of the steep climb. Left hand. Right hand. Left foot. Right foot. The toddler then ascends all the way to the fifth step, now reaching the halfway point of this journey to the second story, and one can only fathom how Pablo is able to withstand this whopping one foot increase in elevation. Truly, only the most daring of diaper-clad kids are capable of climbing the treacherous ten steps of this tall staircase. Only the most ambitious of adventures like himself can- “Whatcha doing there, buddy?” the familiar voice of his father abruptly asks, snapping the little boy out of his imaginative adventures. Naturally, such youngsters now possessing the unparalleled powers of coordination can only be unsupervised for so long, and so Ryan is swift to see what his son is up to. Upon spotting the boy on the stairs, it’s clear that his intuition is correct, prompting him to spectate Pablo’s playtime for the sake of his own safety. “Oh, playing on the stairs, aren’t ya?” asks the Alolan Raichu. “Uh huh! Uh huh!” the tot responds with an emphatic nod. Now having a crowd to cater to, sillier staircase shenanigans swiftly pop into the Pichu’s head. “Daddy! Daddy! Watch dis!” POOOOMF! Pablo takes a seat on the step, but you’d be mistaken to think he’s taking a break! His priorities now prominently more playful, eager to show his father all the fun to be had on this flight of stairs, amusing antics ensue. “Weeeehehehe!” The toddler then swiftly scoots his bottom down the steps, joyfully laughing from this fast and bumpy thrill ride. While not as smooth as the playground’s slide, Pablo nonetheless admires how the stairs are not only an adrenaline pumping adventure on the way up, but also a super fun slide on the way back down, and so a simple staircase now becomes a play structure for the rowdy rodent. “Woah! Quite the bumpy ride, buddy!” Ryan says with a chuckle. Looking back up at the stairs with a wide smile, wanting to further impress his father upon realizing conventional climbing isn’t the only way to enjoy the journey up, Pablo gleefully giggles as he jumps onto each step one by one, shifting the stair’s function from a silly slide to a high elevation game of hopscotch. Although not the biggest change in body movement, the Electric-type admires the amplified fun of this action, enjoying the brief amounts of air time from step to step, fond of how his feet sink into the soft surface while the silly sounds of stomping accompany every landing. “Look at you jumping around like a little bunny!” Ryan adds with another laugh. After ascending the fifth step once more, the boy turns around and lets out another laugh, for these aerial acts have now brought him a bold idea for the way back down. While he immensely enjoyed jumping each step, what if, the toddler now thinks to himself, he can skip those steps altogether? His smile widening after discovering this crazy concept of step skipping, Pablo bends his knees and prepares to do a big jump, the tot now treading a narrow line between ample ambitiousness and frivolous foolishness. “Daddy! Watch dis!” says the boy as he bends his knees a little more. “Hm, what are you doing no- Before his father can finish, Pablo jumps right off the step, happily laughing as he enjoys every aspect of this abrupt action. Clocking in at a total of two seconds off the ground, the baby boy has a blast throughout the entirety of his air time, appreciating all the feelings of weightlessness from this sky-high trip down the stairs, an experience he could never replicate back on the flat floor. Adding more fun to this bold body movement is the acceleration accompanying Pablo’s time in the air, having such a splendid time building up speed during his descent. POOOOMF! Even when his airborne adventures come to an end, the landing still provides ample amusement for the padded Pichu, especially with his peculiar way of breaking his fall. Sure, landing on his feet would provide more stability, but silly little Pablo prioritizes playfulness over practicality, and so he decides to land right on his diapered rump, not only appreciating its comedic sounds of crinkles and powdery poofs, but even more fond of its softness shielding him from any harm despite his daring drop. “Wow! What a jump, Pablo!” Ryan says with a smile, greatly enjoying his son’s staircase shenanigans, but still wanting to air on the side of caution upon the baby boy upping the intensity. “Be careful though, buddy. Wouldn’t want you to hurt yourself.” Although, if the goofy grin on his face says anything, if the fiery look in his eyes doesn’t already foreshadow more sick stunts off the steps, it’s crystal clear Pablo ain’t stopping anytime soon, especially since his treks up and down the stairs have gotten exponentially more exciting. Having now discovered another layer of depth to what was merely meant to be a climb to the top, having now experienced such an exhilarating combination of speed and height, he finds it foolish that his father has become so squeamish all of a sudden. “Again! Again!” says the toddler as he swiftly stands back up. Pablo climbs the stairs at a far faster pace, quickly finding his former spot as he reaches the fifth step. But hardly a few seconds later, he rapidly realizes that doing the same thing wouldn’t be so satisfying, for even diaper-clad kids like himself have at least a vague understanding of diminishing returns. While the tot has always been taught to do as his parents tell him, while he’s at least developed some kind of distinction between right and wrong, in a radical display of rebellion, Pablo defies his dad’s desires. Left hand…..right hand…..left foot…..right foot. Wow! What a daredevil! Five steps is already playing with fire, but SIX???!!! This toddler’s really turning up the heat! But, for the responsible Raichu, not only is this a slight increase in incline, not only is it another component to this dance of danger the kid in diapers is dabbling in, but even worse, it’s direct disobedience against his own orders. Ryan is nothing short of shocked from this deed of defiance, for so softly had he suggested that his son just be a bit more cautious, so carefully had he chosen his words to make it unequivocally clear he’s not trying to spoil his son’s fun, and yet it was all to no avail. Time is running out as the toddler turns around and bends his knees, preparing to do an even bigger jump than before, and all the father can do is hope his final words of caution do the job. “Buddy, don’t you think that’s a bit high?” Unfortunately, the kid is already committed to the act as he jumps off the step, having the time of his life experiencing this extra air time, feeling like he’s moving at the speed of light from this ample increase in acceleration, finding it so amazing that the addition of a single step can add even more thrill to this already exhilarating activity. For the concerned caretaker, on the other hand, it’s as if time has become significantly slower, with Ryan getting more and more nervous as Pablo approaches the ground, feeling worried over all the ways he could hurt himself. Instinctually averting his eyes from the ongoing antics, all the Raichu can do is assume the worst as- POOOOOOMF!!! And yet, just like last time, by some stroke of good fortune, Pablo remains completely unscathed, his poofy and powdery pampers adequately absorbing the impact. As the boy cheerfully claps his hands and lets out a hearty laugh, Ryan sighs in relief and smiles back, glad that his son is safe and sound. Although, despite everything turning out fine in the end, the father figures it’s time to suggest a different form of fun, not wanting the little guy to give him another scare with his staircase stunts, thinking that Pablo has liberally pushed his luck. “Wow, you went so high, buddy! Though, I think that’s enough jumps for now.” Ryan says as he gives the boy a playful pat on the head. “I know! How about you try climbing all the way to the top this time!” “Ooh! Okay!” Pablo says with an enthusiastic nod, thinking it’s a great idea to show the caretaker his climbing capabilities Left hand. Right hand. The moment he places his hands on the second step, Pablo’s imagination puts him back in the role of the daring, diaper-clad adventurer, once again depicting the staircase as a snowy mountain to scale. Left foot. Right foot. His feet soon follow as they lift off the floor and settle onto the first step, immediately establishing the point of no return. With the climb having now commenced, the little Pichu looks up at his desired destination, the top of the stairs seeming so far due to the nine additional steps standing in his way. While such a lengthy trip may be too much for other little kids to handle, such circumstances don’t phase him in the slightest. STOMP! STOMP! STOMP! STOMP! STOMP! Having already been accustomed to the harsh climbing climate, Pablo promptly picks up the pace and swiftly makes his way to step number six, moving with such speed and efficiency. Left hand. Right hand. Left foot. Right foot. A rush of adrenaline now coursing through the kid’s body, he effortlessly climbs up to step number seven, not a trace of fear on the toddler’s face as he courageously throws himself into troubling territory, not a single shred of doubt in his mind as he brings himself to harrowing heights and braces the imaginative blizzard increasing in intensity. As much as he wants to celebrate, the baby boy knows he still has to traverse through one more trail, those troublesome final three steps. Left hand. Right hand. Left foot. Right foot. With another potent showcase of physicality, Pablo ascends all the way to the eighth step, his strength still showing itself even as the increased elevation makes for crueler conditions. Left hand. Right hand. Left foot. Right foot. The peak of the mountain now in plain sight, so close to showing his father the fruits of his efforts, the toddler then reaches the ninth step. Now only a few feet from the end, he smiles at the prospect of another completed climb. Left hand….right hand….left fo- However, as he’s in the process of putting his first foot forward, his left knee comes right back down as the Pichu suddenly feels a potent pressure, his bowels immediately breaking the immersion as that sudden sensation snaps him back to reality. “You’re almost there, Pablo! You can do it!” Ryan says with a smile. However, the father will soon find out that his son didn’t stop the trek due to any tiredness. As the toddler tenses up his face, it’s clear he’s simply delaying the final step to fill his diaper with the deposits from his dinner. “Mmmmmmmph!” PFFFFFT!…BRAAAAAAAP!!…PBLAAAAAART!!!…SLUMP! Pablo promptly pushes the consumed chicken nuggies into his huggies, causing them to slump onto the previous step as several stinky solids settle. “Aaaaah…” sighing in relief and cracking a dopey smile, the Pichu then climbs up the last step, unfazed by his full diaper dragging along the floor. Conversely, Ryan’s smile reflexively subsides from this rancid realization, the spectacle of his son’s success slightly soiled by the stinky he just made. And yet, even with all the poo poo Pablo just pushed into his pants, even though daddy’s now on diaper duty, the love for his little guy swiftly supersedes all of that. “I did it, Daddy! I did it!” says the poopy Pichu as he gives himself a resounding round of applause. “Yes you did, Pablo! You climbed those stairs all by yourself!” Ryan says as he heads up stairs and picks up the baby boy before giving him a hug. Both enjoying this embrace, only the toddler’s lumpy loads shorten these loving and tender moments from father and son as Ryan’s pat’s Pablo’s rump. “Phew, that’s a lot of doo doo in your diaper!” says the Raichu with a playful chuckle, certainly not one to shame a diaper-clad kid for his dirty deeds. And so, with a diaper change now due, it’s no shock Pablo’s second climb ends with a number two! End
