As part of his signing bonus, he was given an experimental 'diet drink' made to change how his metabolism worked.\n\nIt worked way, way too well. Chaz's body began digesting ANYTHING that went into it, and turning it to pure muscle. Whats more, he lost the ability to maintain body fat altogether, a fact that was actually quite unhealthy. He -did- enjoy his newfound increasing strength and ripped physique, and enjoyed hooking up with the good doctor quite a bit as well, but he was definitely stuck in his new job, being unable to feed his new body by any other means.\n\nOver the next few years, Chaz did a lot of work for them, officially he was just a janitor, but unofficially he was an advisor to the tops of the labs... and REALLY unofficially it was his job to disappear any giant monsters the labs happened to create. A job he did with aplomb. During this time Char got quite good at fighting... and very, very large. All at the hands of his committed lover in the form of Dr. Cal.\n\nVarious tricks were tried to solve his metabolic problems, using the dimensional portal tech that was the foundation of SilenceLabs to compress him down, put him in his own world that shouldn't have the same level of linear time... but eventually the problem was actually solved with just a few more chemical rewrites instead of bullshit workarounds. Through heavy meditation and a LOT of drugs, Chaz was trained to perfectly control his own body.\n\n...Er, rather, he developed a split personality capable of perfectly controlling his body. Char is not exactly Charles original self, rather, he's an identity created in extremis. Charles never really had proper dissociative identity disorder, and it could be argued that it was just his method of changing, as after Char replaced Chaz as his dominant identity, the main difference most people noticed was the complete disappearance of self-doubt or restraint.\n\nProbably the most notable difference between the two was that Char felt perfectly able to break up with his boyfriend and strike out on his own. Citing such problems as “I don't think I'm actually in love with you” “We make genuinely terrible roommates and I've ruined your house like five times” and “I think I felt obligated to be with you because you made me, but ultimately that sense of dependence mostly just made me like you less.”\n\nGiven that the practical upshot of this relationship downgrade that other people could perceive mostly involved no longer saying the word boyfriend and instead just becoming friends who fuck sometimes, it seems to have worked out okay, and Char stayed employed as well [if only because he'd be far, far too dangerous to let go.]\n\n\nRelationship with Aria:\n\nThis boldness served him well in a happy adult life of sleeping his way across the increasingly biologically enhanced world the labs were creating, and served him VERY well when he finally met Aria.
