Shinxy: Woah, what's happening? Candice: That's Abomasnow's ability, Snow Warning. It causes hail to fall onto the battlefield when it's sent out, damaging every non-ice type pokemon! Shinxy: Darn, I don't have any ice types... Altan: Shinxy has more pokemon in reserve, but this is still looking like an uphill battle. Crystal: You can do it, Shinxy! Without much further delay, Shinxy commanded his Mew to use Psybeam, landing a direct hit on the large snow creature. Of course, that was part of Candice's plan, as her Abomasnow retaliated with Avalanche. With the move having been powered up by Abomasnow taking a hit prior, it was able to knock out Shinxy's mew in an instant. Shinxy, beginning to express his nervousness, returned Mew to it's pokeball. Shinxy: Rats! I can't win without attacking, but if my pokemon's attacks don't deal a finishing blow, they get knocked out by that powerful attack! Candice: It's frustrating, right? Just focus and you might be able to turn this around! Shinxy opened his bag to pick one of three of his remaining pokemon, taking time once again to think about his situation. Shinxy: What do I do?... Serperior and Noibat are weak to ice attacks, but I wanted to save Arcanine for Candice's ace pokemon. She still has another one after Abomasnow! Maybe I should take a chance with Arcanine, after all Abomasnow is a grass type too, so it should go down with one fire attack, then Arcanine will be in good shape to take on whatever she has left... Just then, as Shinxy was about to make his choice, one of the pokeballs rustled and opened itself, out popping his Noibat. The small bat 'mon making confident bat noises. Shinxy: Wha- Noibat? Did I accidentally let you out? Mewtwo: No. Noibat is prepared to fight and give it it's all for Shinxy. Shinxy: Noibat, I'm really happy that you're more eager to battle, but I'm afraid you're no match for a pokemon like Abomasnow. You'll just get hurt! Noibat huffed, then unexpectedly to Shinxy, began to glow brightly. Shinxy stepped back and averted his eyes to the bright light. When the light cleared, Shinxy looked to find a Noivern standing before him. He quickly checked his pokedex to learn the name of Noibat's evolution. Candice: Wow, I wasn't expecting this! Crystal: I thought Noibat didn't want to evolve? Altan: It must've felt bad about being an anchor that held back Shinxy's team. Shinxy: Woah... you're incredible, Noivern! I'm so glad you evolved! Now, let's kick that Abomasnow's butt! Noivern nodded excitedly, and without further delay it flew up over it's side of the battlefield. Shinxy commanded it to use Air Slash, and Noivern sent out slices of air from it's wings to strike a powerful blow to Abomasnow. Though the attack was super-effective, it did not knock out Abomasnow. Shinxy: Dang it! That thing is tough! Candice: It was a nice try, but your new pokemon is going down! Abomasnow, use Avalanche again! Abomasnow proceeded to use it's devestating attack. However, as the chunks of ice began to fall, Noivern quickly flew out of the way and avoided the attack entirely. Candice: Wha- no way! Shinxy: Alright, Noivern! Let's finish it with another Air slash! As Shinxy took advantage of Noivern dodging Abomasnow's attack, the dragon bat let forth another Air Slash, hitting Abomasnow once again and taking it down. Candice returned Abomasnow to it's pokeball. Candice: Very impressive, though the hail must be taking it's toll on your Noivern. Not that it matters, it won't stand any chance against my final ace pokemon! Time to break the ice! Candace sent forth her Froslass, a cold and ghostly pokemon that set the stage for her final stand. Froslass' body seemed to be transparent as it hovered over it's side of the battlefield. Crystal: What's going on with that pokemon? Candice: Froslass here has a useful ability called Snow Cloak, which gives it more evasiveness in a hailstorm! Mewtwo: And Abomasnow's ability made it hail on the battlefield. Altan: Candace is really clever, having her pokemon's abilities synergize like that. Shinxy: That doesn't mean it can't be hit though! Now it's time for you to lose! Shinxy commanded Noivern to use Air Slash again, however, Noivern's attack missed it's mark as the extra elusiveness granted to Froslass by the hail proved to be quite effective. Froslass then retaliated with Blizzard, a powerful ice attack that covered more area than Avalanche did, striking down Noivern right away and knocking it out. Shinxy then returned it to it's pokeball. Candice: Froslass doesn't have Avalanche, since my strategy kinda takes away it's added power, but Blizzard is just as dangerous! Shinxy: I see, but I have a dangerous pokemon as well! Without questioning his choice, Shinxy sends out his Arcanine. Candice: Oh wow, that's quite the ace pokemon you've been holding back on me. Shinxy: I know I've said this before, but this is the part where you lose! Let's finish this, Arcanine! Use Flame Wheel, full power! Arcanine cloaked itself in fire and charged at Froslass. The intense heat from Arcanine's attack melted the hail before it got anywhere close to it's body, and as Arcanine closed in on Froslass, the effects of Snow Cloak became weaker as well. Froslass took a direct hit from Arcanine's powerful attack and was knocked out on the spot. Candice returned Froslass to it's pokeball, and Shinxy had come out victorious. Shinxy: Haha, yes! Awesome job, Arcanine! Candice then approached Shinxy, gym badge in hand. Candice: Wow, you did great! You've really earned my respect. Your focus and will definitely overpowered my own. Here, take this gym badge, and prize money! Candice handed over the winnings, and Shinxy inserted the badge in his trainer case along with the others. Candice: Oh, and here! Take this technical machine. It's TM72, and it's for none other than Avalanche! Shinxy: Wow, so my pokemon get to use that powerful attack too?! Thanks so much! Though, I don't have any ice type pokemon... Candice: You know, your Rhydon can learn Avalanche! Altan: So can Mew, but that's a given since Mew can learn every move. Shinxy: Oh hey, you guys! I didn't notice you come over here! Candice: Ah yes, Mew! I was going to comment about how exciting it was to see one in real life, but I wanted to stay focused on the battle. Same goes for your shiny Arcanine, there! Arcanine, who was sitting beside Shinxy, wagged it's tail at the compliment. Shinxy: He was one of the first pokemon I caught, I'm very proud of him! Shinxy gave his shiny companion some pets, then returned it to it's pokeball. Crystal: It was nice talking to you, Candice, but we should really get going. It's a long walk back to the rest of Sinnoh, and we'd like to go while it's still sunny out. Candice: Walk? Why not take one of the boats in the port? Just pay the toll and you'll get a ride all the way to Sunnyshore City. I'm guessing that's where you're looking to go next now that you have seven badges. Shinxy: That's exactly right! Volkner wouldn't challenge me before, but now that my pokemon are stronger and I have seven badges, there's no way he'll turn me down! Altan: Thank you for the tip, Candice. It was a pleasure watching that battle. Candice: You're Welcome! Good luck with Volkner, Shinxy. You're gonna need it! The gang said their goodbyes and headed outside and stopped by at the pokemon center. Shinxy had his team get a quick healing before heading over to the port, where they found multiple boats unique from the ones in Canalve City. Shinxy: Wow, these boats have drills on them! A tall bearded dragon sailor approached the group as they looked over the boats. Sailor: Of course they do, they're for cutting through those big chunks of ice. The name's Tom. You kids looking to head somewhere? Altan: Yeah, can you take us to Sunnyshore City? Tom: Sure thing! That'll be 500P for each of ya. Crystal: That's a pretty good deal! They paid the toll and boarded Tom's boat. Then the trip to Sunnyshore City began. They each took a seat on a chair and Shinxy looked over the badges in his trainer case. Shinxy: Seven badges... Just one more and I'll get to go to the Battle Frontier and see my mom... Mewtwo: I'd like to meet her too. I suspect she has strong aura like yours. Altan: Same here. I'm glad we don't have to walk all the way to Sunnyshore. Crystal: Just one more hurdle to clear! Shinxy: Yeah. Get ready, Volkner!
