Upon entering, they quickly found the battlefield to be quite unique, set up resembling a large boxing ring. Shinxy: Wow, this is cool! Altan: No parts of it submerged underwater like with Crasher Wake's gym. There's a lot more room to maneuver here. ???: Hello! A peculiar girl approached the group, waving friendly at them. Maylene: Hi, I'm Maylene, the leader of this gym! I guess one of you is here for a battle, huh? Shinxy: That would be me, Miss! I'm looking to win my fifth badge from you! My name is Shinxy! Maylene: Hmhm, I like your energy, Shinxy! That's not a bad badge count you have either. Crystal: Yeah, he gets that a lot. I think it's a nice trait of his, though. He's very fun to travel with! My name is Crystal, by the way. Altan: I'm Altan. This pokemon here is Mewtwo. It belongs to Shinxy, but won't be battling. Shinxy: Mewtwo doesn't like to battle, but that's alright, because I still have a strong team! Maylene: It's been a long time since I've met an interesting bunch like you guys. It's a pleasure to meet you all! As for this battle, I specialize in fighting type pokemon. They're quite strong, and their moves work on a variety of pokemon types, so you best watch out. Shinxy: You got it! Maylene: Alrighty then. The rest of you can sit on the bench over there. Shinxy, you stand on your side of the battlefield and I'll go to mine. They did as instructed. Altan, Crystal and Mewtwo clearing the way for Shinxy and Maylene to battle. Once in position, Maylene sent out her first pokemon, Meditite, and Shinxy sent out his newly caught Noibat. Altan: Hmmm. Not sure I agree with Shinxy sending out that Noibat after not having trained with it. Remember what happened with Crasher Wake when he tried to use his Quagsire against Wake's Quagsire? Crystal: Yeah but, this situation is different. They aren't using the exact same pokemon here, and Noibat has a type advantage as well! Mewtwo: This Noibat was also able to withstand my psychic move. I was intending to knock it out with the Zubats. Crystal: For real? I guess it has it's own story. Maylene: That's a pretty interesting pokemon, but don't think you can beat my pokemon simply with a type advantage! Meditite, use Fake Out! Meditite quickly approached Noibat, and clapped it's hands loudly in the bat pokemon's face. Noibat flinched and refrained from attacking. Shinxy: Woah, what kind of move is that?! Maylene: It's Fake Out! It's a move that's super fast, and always makes the opponent flinch! Sounds a bit broken, but it only works once, right after the pokemon using it is sent out. So Meditite can't do it again. But, your pokemon is now wide open for a stronger attack, like Rock Tomb! Meditite took that as a signal, and used it's Rock Tomb attack on the vulnerable Noibat, several heavy rocks forming to strike the bat pokemon directly. Noibat was left injured, but picked itself back up and flew back up into place. Crystal: Wow, what a dangerous strategy... making Noibat flinch, then attacking with a rock type move... Altan: As a fighting type gym leader, Maylene is clearly equipped to deal with flying type pokemon. Maylene: I thought for sure that'd K.O that Noibat. I guess we'll have to give it another one! Shinxy: Noibat! Gosh, this isn't exactly a great first impression I'm leaving as your new trainer, huh... Noibat huffed and didn't acknowledge Shinxy, clearly unamused at him capturing the bat poke to throw it at a more experienced trainer. Shinxy: Yeah, I thought so. This isn't going great so far, I know. But I also know you're really strong! You can totally beat that Meditite, that's a fact! And I'll help you do it, that's what trainers are for! Maylene: Awww, is this the first trainer battle you've put that Noibat in? That's disappointing. My pokemon want to battle others with more battle experience! Shinxy: Noibat is plenty experienced, at least as a wild pokemon! She's super strong, as you're about to find out now that she can strike back! Noibat, use Air Slash! Noibat was moved by Shinxy's words, noticing how it's new trainer had not one shred of doubt in it's abilities. Determined to be more deserving of it's trainer's confidence, Noibat striked fiercely, flapping it's wings to release a blade of energy to attack Meditite. The attack was too fast for Maylene's pokemon to avoid, and Meditite was struck directly, but was still able to battle. Maylene: Rats! I wasn't expecting an attack so fast, but you're alright! Now strike back with Rock Tomb!... Meditite? Noibat's Air Slash left it's own flinching effect on Meditite, as the fighting pokemon was unable to attack in the moment. Shinxy: Haha! Look who's flinching now! Noibat, use Air Slash again! Noibat did as instructed, repeating the attack and striking Meditite with the blade of energy. Meditite was unable to withstand the attack a second time, and fainted. Maylene huffed and returned Meditite to it's pokeball. Shinxy: See? I told you Noibat was strong! Way to go, Noibat! Let's keep this momentum going!... Noibat? Happy as Shinxy was to see his new pokemon in action, Noibat had different plans. The small bat pokemon let out an audible yawn and curled up, falling asleep on the spot. Shinxy: Wha- hey! Noibat! Shinxy stepped over to the battlefield and began nudging Noibat to try to wake it, to no avail. Altan: Huh. I guess it doesn't feel like battling anymore. Crystal: Maybe it didn't get much sleep before Shinxy caught it? Altan: He did wake it up from a nap before he caught it. I guess that battle tired it out right back to sleep. Shinxy's lucky it bothered to fight for him before sleeping again. Shinxy: Aww man! Oh well... Noibat, you definitely deserve some rest. He gave Noibat some pets, before returning the small bat 'mon to it's pokeball. Maylene: Phew, that's a relief for me, at least! My Machoke probably would've had some trouble against that attack as well. Shinxy: You should be worried about how they stack up to my other pokemon, because they're strong too!
