The Staff wasn't too keen on him entering in such a filthy condition, but it's something they've become accustomed to with the muddy Route 212 just beside Pastoria City. Not to mention the Great Marsh being the City's hotspot for fun. Shinxy greeted his friends outside, freshly bathed and wearing his older clothes, despite his coat's buttons being broken. Shinxy: I had to leave my other clothes in the wash for now. So these will do! He said, giving his friends a thumbs up Altan: We'll wait in front of the gym, just don't take too long, okay? Shinxy: No problem! I'll be back shortly, and you guys can watch me battle another gym leader! Crystal: Hmhm, it's always fun watching those battles. Shinxy headed over to Route 213, as Altan, Crystal and Mewtwo proceeded to wait in front of the gym. Upon exiting Pastoria City, Shinxy was greeted with the sound of waves and the salty smell of the ocean nearby. Shinxy: Wow, a beach! Gonna have to buy some swim trunks later. ...Huh? He could hear a voice coming from the shoreline. It sounded like singing. Following the sound, he found a muscular oddly-dressed otter man doing one-armed push-ups with a Quagsire on his back, as ocean water occasionally covered his hand. Shinxy: Wow, that guy is strong. Is that Crasher Wake? Crasher Wake: ♪ The ring is my roiling sea. The towering waves shaped me. Crash! Crash! Crasher Wake! Crash! Crash! Crasher Wake! I'm the tidal wave of power to wash you away! Put out the fire, Crasher Wake! Run from electricity, Crasher Wake! Ah, ah, aaaah! The ring is my sea. ♪ Shinxy: That's definitely him. He's so... cool! I kinda feel bad about interrupting his training, but I gotta get that gym badge. So, Shinxy approached the gym leader. Shinxy: Excuse me... Crasher Wake? Wake's ears perked up, and the Quagsire hopped off his back, allowing him to stand and stretch his arms before turning aroundto talk to Shinxy. Crasher Wake: Greetings, young man! I can tell just by looking at you that you are a trainer interested in battlingme. Am I right? Shinxy: Of course! I hope I'm not interrupting your training there. Crasher Wake: Not at all! Just thought I'd squeeze some exercise in before my next challenge. There's nothing better for your muscles than the roar of the sea and 165 pounds of Quagsire on your back! Shinxy: I-I don't think I'm strong enough for that, but I can definitely beat you in a pokemon battle! Crasher Wake: Haha! I like that confidence, young man. But don't be surprised if that fire in your belly is put out by my pokemon's powerful water attacks! Now, follow me to the gym. I'm eager to see how you battle! Crasher Wake led Shinxy back to Pastoria City and to his gym, where Shinxy's group of friends were waiting. Crasher Wake: Hmm? Are there more trainers wanting to battle now? Surely I wasn't away from the gym THAT long. Shinxy: No, those are my friends. They're waiting to watch me battle you. Crasher Wake: Great! An audience makes any battle more exciting! Crystal: Nice to meet you, sir. Altan: This should be an interesting fight to watch. Crasher Wake: My pokemon certainly won't disappoint! The gym leader unlocked the front door with his keys, and held the door open for the others. The battlefield inside the gym was half flooring, and half pool of water with a platform in the middle. Altan: An unusual set-up for a battlefield, probably not unusual for water type gym leaders though. Mewtwo: I suspect that pool will benefit Crasher Wake's water type pokemon quite a bit. Crystal: You can beat him, Shinxy. I believe in you! Shinxy: Thank you, Crystal. I'll win for sure!
