"Fishing Trips" Late afternoon on a pleasant Sunday at my private fishing lake, the sun shone high above the trees. The wind's breeze was soft and quaint; it was perfect. The way the trees swayed; how the water motioned in the wind, along with the flowers next to the lake blowing in the wind, showed how beautiful nature can be. It was impossible not to spend the day ahead outside! My name is Neo, and if you haven't noticed yet, I'm a dragon. We dragons are marvellous, majestic creatures who, like vampires and werewolves (though neither exist), are mistaken for monsters. I can tell you right here and right now, that I am not a monster. Actually, I am one intelligent dragon. I am smart enough not to fall for tricks or stupid traps set by idiotic dragon hunters. When I get a chance to be by myself, I'm usually found at the lake. Yes, it is my favourite place to relax; to unwind; to become de-stressed. Sometimes, I take nice long swims underneath the surface, so to be with the magnificent creatures that inhabit the lake's waters. But as for today, I was in the mood to do some fishing. Being a dragon, I have no need for fishing rods, lures, and bait. So instead, all I needed to have was my hunting knowledge and keen sense of smell; not to mention, my fangs and claws. All were perfect ingredients to make sure that nothing would go wrong when I hit the water. I even have it all planned out. One fact is that fish seem to love my lake. If they didn't, I wouldn't be here right now. "Now my fishing trip can begin!" I said cheerfully. I simply couldn't wait much longer. The only reason I was going on this trip was to catch dinner. I wasn't going to leave empty handed; I was determined to get a crateful of fish. That right there, was my goal. "Let's see... Nice and beautiful sunny day, check. Fish, check! Myself, check! Okay, I'm all ready to go!" I made sure I had everything needed to make sure I won't make an epic fail. Because, let's face it. Making an epic fail would hurt me a little inside; I would not want that. Walking over to the bank of the waters, I flew up and dove right in with a splash. Now, since I couldn't breathe underwater, my time was limited to catch fish. My eyesight was also limited as I tried my best to swim ahead. Underwater, it was like the world was a whole different place! That except the algae I could get tangled into. "Okay fish... I know you're here. Come out, come out wherever you are." Water got into my lungs, so I instantly swam to the surface; emerging from the waters. I'll never do that again. Talking underwater is a death trap. It's a ticket to go six feet under. Plus, I am a dragon, not a mermaid. Though, I'll be fair. Being a mermaid or mergon, would be totally awesome. Why? It's because I'd be able to breathe underwater. But, that isn't the case. I wasn't born a mermaid, so I'll have to live with it. Sitting in front of the bank of my private lake, I planned my next plan of action. I was feeling famished and I needed something to eat. I could go to the nearest fish market and buy a big flounder, but a voice in my head kept saying that I "needed to do the right thing" whatever that meant. So, again, I got up and dove back into the waters. This time, I kept quiet. As I swam underwater; looking for fish, I saw the familiar algae and wondered if I should cut them. A lot of me said yes, because after all, I would avoid becoming tangled with it. Would I see some fish this go around? Only time will tell. Feeling the need to go back to the surface, I had to figure out some way to catch fish. It began becoming clear that this approach wasn't working for me. I needed to try something else. Yeah, it's all clear. Maybe that's why I didn't see any fish. They were all afraid of me. "What was I thinking?" I asked myself. "They're fish. They're not like us. They're here for one reason; that is to fear from being turned into food!" Sighing, I decided that the best thing for me to do is to gather my fishing gear. Let's just hope I don't poke an eye out. Luckily, I kept all my gear at home. By the time I returned with my fishing gear intact, the temperature gotten hotter. But, that didn't bother me at all. I'm a dragon; we do not sweat. However, that didn't stop me from panting like a dog. It was beginning to transition into dusk, which explained why it got so much hotter here. I can even hear the insects communicating with each other and saw a blue dragonfly fly past me. And believe me, if that's not beautiful, I don't know what is. But anyway, enough about that. I needed to catch me some dinner if it was the last thing I do. "There is no way I'm leaving empty handed." I said, determined. So, I got my fishing gear ready. It didn't take long to do. "Alright, it's time to catch me some fish." I said as I casted my fishing pole. Once the lure fell in the lake with a splash, the only thing I could do was to wait. "Hmmmm... Should I make fried fish or fish soup? I could also try to make sushi." I spoke to myself while waiting for fish to bite. "Endless possibilities is going to be upon me soon." "Come on fish, I know you're in there." I then spoke. A few minutes have passed and so far, none of the fish were biting. Maybe they were still afraid of me back when I tried to catch them my way. I simply couldn't leave. I have a feeling the fish would bite soon. I can feel it down deep inside. With dusk simply upon me, I can rightfully see this trip is like a trip to an amusement park. You wouldn't know what could happen! "Hmmm... Maybe I should have gone to Scream Mountain instead." I said to myself. "Then that way, I could've had the time of my life." Scream Mountain was the nearest theme park. It had everything for its patrons: Food, games, rides, etc. It was also the home of the World's Scariest Roller Coaster, the Pain Puncher. I've been on it a few times. I didn't think it was THAT frightening. Okay, maybe it was for the folks who are deathly afraid of roller coasters. But, I was broken from my thoughts when I felt a tug. It was coming from my fishing pole! Either I caught myself a fish or a worn-out boot. I literally jumped to my feet and grabbed the reel connected to the fishing pole; beginning to reel my catch in. It put up a fight, but I was determined to come out victorious! As I was reeling my lure in, I felt a rush of excitement rush through me and it was exhilerating let me tell you. It was only a matter of minutes until I find out what I caught. The wait was unbearable! "Come on, come on. Don't escape, because you're mine!" I quaintly said to myself. It was then, I pulled with all of my might. Splashing out of the water, a giant sea bass appeared. "Hehe, jackpot." I reeled more of the fish in, whilst the fish decided to give me a hard time as it began pulling back. "Hey! Don't you do that to me! You're going to be my dinner!" I grunted and pulled back harder, reeling the fish in with all my might. I couldn't wait any longer, so I dove in the water and grabbed the bass and walked towards land. The fish, being an aquatic animal, began flipping on the grass; gasping for air. After taking the rose coloured glasses off, I can then see that my caught didn't want to become my dinner. It was close to death; I was beginning to feel that it was better off in the water. I knew what I had to do. Truth is, even if I didn't catch anything, this was a nice day out; no matter what happens, I'll always have a good time. As I looked at the fish gasping for air, just maybe he deserved to live and not get eaten. I made up my mind as quickly as a human perked up on caffeine. "You owe me for this." I said, picking up the sea bass, and threw him back into the waters. It wasn't a minute later that the bass floated on the water's surface when I knew what was up. The fish was already dead; it didn't have a chance to live. But, there's only one good thing that came out of this; that was I'm going to have dinner tonight! So, I took the sea bass back and carried it back to my treehouse. I felt both happy and sad at the exact same time. Happy because I caught me dinner and sad because I watched it die. But, this was a sign. A sign that told me that I had to eat. Once I arrived to my treehouse, I got dinner started. I decided to flame broil my catch and after that, ate. As I was eating the fish up, I couldn't get the thought of it dying right in front of my eyes out of my head. It's like watching a bad car accident. Once you see it, you can't get enough it; you wish you'd never seen it. Dinner was good and I was then happy about catching my catch. As I rubbed my belly, I was glad that my mission was accomplished. I caught a fish and enjoyed dinner.
