A gust of wind brushed across the nightly neighborhood and did its best to push away those remnants of the past day's heat that were still lingering on the rooftops.
The breeze wasn't even strong enough to rattle the shutters, Melinda thought to herself as she rose from her bed and through a careful glance across the room towards the sleeping form of her sister.
"Vicky?" Her voice was a whisper in the darkness.
No answer came. She could see the chest of her sister rise and fall as she slept peacefully.
Melinda sighed in relief as she carefully climbed out of bed.
It was great to have a sister, but sometimes, she didn't feel like sharing at all. And today was one of those times.
She felt the metal of the door handle on her scales as she grabbed it and began to push.
