Shere Khan was indeed one of the most dangerous predators in the jungle (next to himself of course) and the Serpent wasn't arrogant enough to simply try hypnotizing him outright. And even if Khan didn't know about his new hypnotic voice, he couldn't risk the direct approach despite having the element of surprise, one wrong move and he would end up incurring the Tiger's wrath.\n\nStill, he needed to truly test his new powers, and someone as strong-willed as Shere Khan [i]would[/i] prove to be the perfect challenge…\n\nAs the Serpent continued to ponder his current course of action, an idea quickly came to him. Smirking deviously, he slithered towards the tiger, ready to initiate his plan…\n\n\n[center]-----[/center]\n\n\n\"Lousy simple-minded dogs…\" Shere Khan grumbled to himself as he stormed through the jungle. Despite his return alone putting many animals on edge, this had not stopped the Wolf Clan themselves from keeping a closer eye on him since he'd returned. An effort to protect their precious Man-Cub, no doubt.\n\n\"Well, well, well, if it isn't my old friend Shere Khan…\" A familiar voice chimed in, catching his attention. Glancing upwards, he could see the Serpent's head lowering down from the branches above. \"It truly has been a while, what brings you to this part of the jungle?\" \n\nKhan scoffed at first, but simply shifted his demeanor as he approached the Snake, cautiously watching his eyes in case he tried anything sneaky. \"Oh just a simple hunt, away from the prying eyes of the Wolf Clan…\" He explained in a somewhat condescending tone. \"And of course, given how close the man village is, I'm sure to find some decent… [i]prey[/i], sooner or later…\" He added with a knowing smile as he extended his claws, his tone becoming slightly more threatening despite his somber and collected demeanor.\n\nKaa, knowing exactly who he was referring to casually slithered through the air around the Tiger. \"Oh, so you seek the Man-Cub? Well, sorry to disappoint, but he's no longer in the jungle-GRK!\" The Snake was cut off almost immediately as the Tiger grabbed him by the throat and pulled him close.\n\n\"And what do you mean by [i]that[/i]?\" The Tiger snarled, his mood going from conversational and dignified to threatening and feral in seconds upon hearing that.\n\n\"W-Well, I was slithering past the man village… and I just happened to spot the Man-Cub being escorted there by some adults...\" Kaa explained, leaving out his involvement in that matter. \"A true shame you just missed them, my dear Khan. I'm sure a superior hunter just as yourself could have felt with them…\" He continued, attempting to give the Tiger a small dose of his hypnotic voice, just to test how much he was affected.\n\nKhan, however, simply scoffed as he released Kaa's neck and stormed past him, having no time for his empty flattery and still in no better mood than when he met the snake. \"The idiots just don't realize what he can become!\"\n\nKaa arched a brow at this, the Tiger seemed to be not affected by his voice at all… at least, not at the low, subtle power he dared to use at this point. [i]'Hmmm… this will be more difficult than I anticipated.' [/i]The Snake thought to himself while stroking his ego didn't yield results, he had to find a way to force Khan into a state of mind that made him easier to hypnotize. [i]'What I need is an 'in', some sort of gap in his mental defense if I'm going to succeed…'[/i] He continued to muse as he slithered through the trees, following the Tiger to a nearby river as he stopped for a drink.\n\nAs he watched his target for a moment, another idea came to mind. [i]'Yessss… and once his mental defenses are down, I'll be able to stimulate his hidden desires and associate its indulgence with my voice… and fully put him in a trance!'[/i]\n\nWith this new plan in mind, the Serpent recomposed himself before lowering his head towards the unsuspecting Tiger.\"I must admit Shere Khan, at first I never truly understood your grudge against the humans before…\" Kaa began, strengthening the power behind his hypnotic voice, yet keeping his distance just in case. \"...at least, not until recently…\"\n\n\"What are you yammering on about, Snake?\" Khan scoffed as he stopped lapping at the water, almost considering dismissing the Serpent outright.\n\n\"Sadly these humans don't respect the law of the jungle, believing themselves to be above it.\" Kaa explained, noticing that he'd somewhat caught his attention. \"I should know, two of them attacked me a few nights ago, unprovoked even!\" He added in a slightly more distressed tone.\n\n[i]This [/i]piqued Khan's curiosity as he stopped drinking, his attention now fully on the Snake. \"Of course they would overstep the rules of the jungle…\" He growled, dragging his claw across a nearby tree before calming himself. \"Well, you're fortunate to have escaped… unlike Basali…\" He started before catching himself.\n\n[i]'There's the trigger…'[/i] Kaa thought deviously, he could tell how emotional the Tiger felt from his tone and change in body movement. Kaa himself had a few memories of the white she-tiger, while he hadn't put much thought into it back then, when she was around Shere Khan became surprisingly calmer and content. It was more obvious to him now that they'd been very close, likely even mates.\n\nBut then… she was [i]gone[/i].\n\nNo one knew the exact details at the time. But according to Khan himself, the humans had trespassed in his turf and gotten to her. Even Kaa himself was very miffed by this news, these humans had completely gone over the line.\n\nOne of the main rules of the jungle was that you did [i]not[/i] kill predators in their own territory, that was only permitted in self-defense... or in cases of malicious trespassing.\n\n[i]'...and given how furious he still is at the humans… they likely had done more than just kill her… maybe they desecrated her body…' [/i]The Snake pondered to himself, he did have a faint memory of seeing a human with a necklace of fangs. [i]'...could they have been hers?'[/i] Kaa narrowed his eyes at this thought, that would mean her death was the result of [i]trophy hunting[/i], which was one of the [i]gravest[/i] crimes by the jungle law. [i]'The elders couldn't possibly have ignored something like that… could they? Gah, questions for later!'[/i] The Serpent mentally groaned as he shook his head, he couldn't let himself get too distracted by these details.\n\nHe had to remember why he was here.\n\n\"Ah yes, Basali… she was quite the beauty, wasn't she? Strong, confident, a competent huntress, a perfect match for you...\" Kaa hissed, using just the right words at just the right moment to magnify the temptation and slowly strip away the Tiger's defenses, little by little. \"Truly, you two were an unrivaled force in the jungle…\"\n\nShere Khan's expression softened somewhat as he turned away from the Serpent. \"She was perfect for me… [i]we[/i] were perfect for each other…\" He mumbled to himself, more memories of the White Tigress surfacing with his mind.\n\n\"Indeed you two were… if only she were here...\" Kaa hissed as he slithered closer, pouring a little more power into his spell to magnify the Tiger's desires. \"...she was the only one who could help you let go of your rage…\"\n\nKhan narrowed his eyes but simply scoffed. \"If she [i]were[/i] here, I'd have no rage to quell…\" The Tiger growled, unconsciously lowering his guard.\n\n\"Oh, I'm sure she'd hate to see just how miserable you'd become…\" Kaa said in an understanding tone. \"But I'm sure she would want you to remember her, not by her end, but rather by the good times you both had shared…\"\n\n\"...would… she…?\" Khan mumbled to himself, almost not registering Kaa's presence. Normally at this point, the Tiger would've had just about enough of the Snake's pestering and simply tell him off or smack him away… and yet, oddly enough he couldn't bring himself to do so. In fact, the more Kaa spoke of his late mate, the calmer he seemed to feel...\n\nKaa took his lack of a direct response as proof of his progress. From a safe distance in the canopy above, Kaa watched as his latest conquest left the area, none the wiser of what had truly transpired last night. It had taken a bit of effort, but the Serpent had carefully altered the Tiger's mind ever-so-slightly, curbing Khan's arrogance as to make sure he didn't lose himself to his ego, while keeping him on his side in terms of allegiance.

'I have to admit, had I still cared about indulging in my baser instincts, I might have eaten him or the Man-Cub after I was done with them…' He thought to himself. 'But no, there's plenty of easier prey in the jungle, and I can use both Shere Khan and the Man-Cub to my advantage… when the time is right.'

Swelling with pride at his latest accomplishments, the Serpent made his way deeper into the jungle to find himself some prey, and then ponder his next course of action.
