He turned on the bed to notice the half of the bed he expected to be filled was empty and made. “Jet?” Rookie snapped wide awake. “Wait, where did you go? Jet!” He looked around the room with a furrowed brow. No signs of a struggle or break-in. Rookie’s sunglasses and hat were neatly placed on the tea table across the room. “Oh…I forgot he’s an early riser,” Rookie said. He rolled off the bed and waddled towards his belongings. Not needing his nighttime clothes anymore, he switched them out with his hat and glasses. Before Rookie could reach for his glasses, however, he heard a shout out the window. “Now! Let’s go! Keep up,” A familiar voice bellowed just outside. Rookie rushed to the window—and there Jet was, leading a pack of penguins in a morning jog. New recruits, Rookie assumed. It was as if nothing changed. Rookie was so happy he couldn’t hold back a sigh.
