"writing": "The Setup: Part 1\nSawiz stood a head over most of the other creatures gathered out tonight. His deep bronze scales tinged with minor green patina to them glistened in the humid Seattle air, marking him as a young adult to those versed in such things as draconic anatomy.\nThe wind bit at the dragon as he wandered through a seedy alley downtown, though with all the people gathered together it was actually quite warm. It was the Spring Festival, more widely known as Chinese New Year in his locale, and it seemed like everyone was out to celebrate. He folded his wings in tight against him and nudged his way through the crowd, making slow progress. \nVendors had set up stands on the sides of the streets, compressing the revelers even further by funneling them all together. Occasionally loud snaps and bangs could be heard, presumably fireworks going off. The air was tingling with excitement as a dragon kite sailed over Sawiz’s head. The irony did not pass him by.\nThe six foot dragon found his way through the alley as it opened up into a much larger plaza, though it was still crowded by furs and humans of all shapes and sizes. As Sawiz pushed his way past a particularly large brown bear he found his way into another alleyway. This one was devoid of partiers, though the occasional snap-pop of fireworks could still be heard. He opened a large, rusty door on the West side of the alley by shoving his shoulder against it hard to get it to move. \nOne loud scraping sound later, and he was inside a small warehouse-like building. It was largely empty, save for a lesser panda leaning on the back wall only a few meters away. Sawiz is the first to speak.\n“Couldn’t you have chosen somewhere a bit…newer?” He asks with a smirk, as the panda pushes off the back wall and begins walking towards Sawiz.\n“I didn’t want to draw attention,” the red panda responds. As he steps into the light, Sawiz can make out that the panda is wearing a custom-tailored suit. It was deep blue in color, apparently made of wool, and looked very expensive. On his feet, the panda wore a pair of oxblood loafers.\n“And yet you chose to wear that.” Sawiz says, pointing at the panda’s less-than-subdued outfit. “Yeah, not conspicuous at all there, O’Rien” Sawiz chuckles, and moves to embrace the smaller, furrier creature who mirrors his action. They hug only briefly, before parting.\n“If you don’t want the information I’ve got for you, I’m sure there are other buyers.” O’Rien says through a sly, knowing grin.\n“Fine, fine, you look very nice. Now, who is it that needs my services?”\n“Renraku.”\nSawiz takes a step back at the revelation. “Don’t they have the Red Samurai for things like this? What could they possibly need me for?”\n“Oh please,” O’Rien retorts. “You know as well as I do that just because they have the Red Samurai, doesn’t mean that they don’t have just as much need of Runners as any other corp. So shut up and listen. Shiawase has some product or another coming through the city with a heavy armed escort. That said, a skilled rigger could easily shut down half the escort, and someone with your talents could probably deal with the other half. I’ve already contacted the rigger, and he specifically requested you for the job.”\nSawiz nods. “Circuitbreaker, then? He knows I’m going to make fun of his name the whole run again, right? I mean he’s not even a decker, why would-” Sawiz is cut off by O’Rien before he gets going.\n“Yes, he knows. He also knows you’re the only street mage in the area with the grit to handle this. The others all focus so much on their magic, they lose sight of what’s really important when you’re facing down a legion of armed corporate thugs; good armor.”\nThis elicits a chuckle from Sawiz, who nods again. “Alright, and the pay?”\n“You’ll get two thousand nuyen. Don’t worry about expenses, I’ve handled it all.”\n“Alright. I’ll take the job. When does it start?”\n“Now. Shiawase is running their caravan right through downtown in the hopes that the excitement of the Spring Festival would dissuade the more private runners from making a pass at them. Based on my attempts at recruitment, I would say that they did a pretty good job on that guess.”\nSawiz swore under his breath. “Fine, I’ll still do it. But make it ¥2,500 for personal risk.”\n“Done. Now get going.” The bushy-tailed fur says through a wry grin, his tail swaying with a little emotion. He’d definitely gotten the better end of the deal this time.\nSawiz sprints out the door, pushing his way back through the parade of celebrators, and trying to figure out where the convoy would be coming through when his comm-link beeps. He opens the message, and finds a map containing the route that the convoy would be taking. Well, that certainly took one problem out of the equation. There were three obvious ambush points, though only one was low profile, with no risk of civilian casualties. The downside was that Sawiz only had five minutes to get there before the Shiawase convoy arrived, and his blind rush would almost certainly expose him as a threat. Still, it was the best option. Hopefully Circuitbreaker already had control of the drone escort and was merely awaiting Sawiz’s arrival to turn the guns on Shiawase’s employees. As Sawiz barreled forth out of the crowd, he immediately gained the attention of Shiawase’s armed patrol. He wasn’t an obvious threat yet, but they were on alert now.\nAs Sawiz continued his approach towards the convoy, a Shiawase employee ordered that he halt. Sawiz proceeded forward, speaking in broken Cantonese, asking if this was the way to the bathrooms and slurring his words as if drunk. The employee warned the approaching runner to stop once more, only to get a “drunken” barrage of Cantonese swearing. Finally as Sawiz neared casting distance, the Shiawase employees all opened fire simultaneously, as Sawiz made a mad dash for the nearest cover he could find; a concrete barricade. He waited until he heard the armed escort reload before standing up out of cover and summoning up the magic in his veins, channeling a bolt of lightning through his hands and blasting it at the nearest Shiawase guard. The bolt went straight through him and into the next guard behind him. In the same instant, the drones turned on their supposed masters. The first drone’s .50 caliber machine guns split one man in half, exposing his intestines, vaporizing his liver and kidneys, and destroying his spinal column. The second blew the other’s brains all over the pavement, leaving a gaping cavity in the top of his cranium. As Sawiz observed the grisly, bloody scene with a hint of disgust, there was no sign that the revelers nearby noticed anything at all, perhaps presuming that it was merely more celebratory fireworks going off.\nWith all four human escorts incapacitated, Sawiz approached the hovercart they were escorting and secured the box atop it. He didn’t check the merchandise, knowing that he was better off not knowing what it was. Even with the drones, the escort was light. This was a milkrun. Renraku didn’t need runners for this, their internal security could easily have dispatched this crew. Sawiz shrugged. Just one more thing he was probably better off not knowing. Runners that didn’t ask questions tended to live longer. He nodded to one of the two drones, which “nodded” back at him by tilting its machine gun up and down. Creepy-ass riggers, he thought, as he walked the package off to a dead-drop.\n",
