“Are you going to spend all day on that thing?”
Ashley looked up from her phone and rolled her eyes. “Oh come on dad, you just said to get out of the house! I'm out of it, aren't I?”
Omega sighed. He loved his daughter, no matter how odd her life had been to this point; but, there was always the slight, up-hill struggle he had to face, what with missing so much of her life. “Ashley, darling, I meant to get away from games, consoles and the TV. I didn't mean bring it with you!”
Ashley cocked an eyebrow, and gestured around them. “We're at a funfair! These places are boring!” She then kicked a discarded can. “And it's not even a proper funfair, it's a county fair with all these little, artsy stands! I don't see why I had to come!”
“It's a family outing!” he said, nodding to the Bell Ringer machine, where Jake was winning yet another cuddly toy, and the owner of the attraction was looking increasingly annoyed. “You, me, your uncle and his girlfriend, and your step-mother-”
“She is NOT my step-mother!” said Ashley firmly. “I don't care what you tell me, I'm not going to refer to that, that, beached-whale as a step-”
She was cut short when a huge weight landed on her, and she found herself being lifted into the air a little while being smothered from behind. A cheery voice confirmed what she'd guessed a few seconds later; “ASHLEY! You made it!”
The young girl wheezed slightly as Jessica's grip, improbably strong, hugged the smaller cubi. “GAH! Get OFF me woman!” she groaned, and Jess let go, smiling happily, her long tail wagging. She was holding a light-blue top in her hands, and proffered it to the young girl.
“I got you this!” she said proudly. “They had this guy who makes clothing based off pictures that fit perfectly EVERY time!” she said, almost bouncing where she stood. “So, I got him to make this one for YOU!”
Ashley, looking confused and feeling more so, took the offered clothing. “Erm, thanks, but, how did you get a picture of me?” she asked.
Jessica snorted softly. “Oh, I've got HUNDREDS of them!” she said, opening her wallet, and showing the long stream of card-sized pictures, like something out of an old cartoon! “I've got one from the day you first came to the studio, I've got one of your first weekend alone with Jake and Sarah, I've got one of you with the postman signing for a parcel...”
“Where's all your money?” asked Omega, looking into her wallet. “You had almost £300 in there this morning; you can't have more than £80 now!”
“I spent it!” she said, smiling. “I got a new tie for Jake, a LOVELY pony cuddly for Sarah, I got you a new waistcoat, the top for Ashley....”
Ashley looked at the top. It felt nice in her hands, and she knew custom clothes were expensive, but just throwing her money around? So like Jessica, so like....
“Its lovely.” Ashley said, and started to blush; as this time, rather than the rampant hugging she usually gave, Jessica just smiled and kissed the little cubi's forehead. “Ok, what shall we do next?”
“Family photo?” said Jake, walking up with Sarah on his arm. She still had the most recent win with her, a large cuddly squirrel almost half her boyfriend's size, the rest of the haul put into the family car already.
“Sounds good to me!” said Omega, rubbing Ashley's shoulder. “I think we should come back every year!” he said, and the little girl smiled, still blushing.
“Yeah, I think I can learn to like this as well.” she said, sliding her phone into her pocket.
