The anticipation washed over his mind in waves.\n\nNervously, the young man adjusted his waistband and latched the padlock shut. Sweat\nstarted to trickle down the mocha-coloured skin of his chest.\n\nHe just wanted to see. To try it out. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?\n\nPadding across the stippled concrete floor, he paused at the threshold to the pool area\nand breathed deep. He would be safe here. No one would see. The facility was closed for\nat least another hour. Working for the university had its advantages.\n\nHigh fences and the windowless walls of the gymnasium kept the deck away from prying\neyes. The diving tower, however, wasn't exactly discreet. He was relying on distance\nfrom the road to mask what he was about to do.\n\nGingerly, he put one foot on the bottom rung of the ladder. Then the next. He breathed\ndeep and began the change. Reaching up to the next rung, he watched his fingernails\ndarken and curl into claws. Tawny fur lightened his dark skin. He felt the sun on his\nears grow warmer as they stretched and expanded with his muzzle. The sensation of his\ntail poking through the homemade hole in his swim brief sent a shiver up his spine.\n\nWith each grasp of a higher rung on the diving tower ladder, the young man left his\nhumanity behind on the ground. Up here, he was puma. Climbing high over the earth was\nhis nature. Stepping out onto the board, he marveled anew at his feline form, grateful\nfor his gift.\n\nThe breeze slipped past his whiskers as he sat at the end. This was going to be a very\ngood day.",
