  "description": "Well, Folks; the Spontoon Speed Week Championship has finally come to an end. Pilots from all across the globe came to show their prowess in the world of speed; in landplanes and seaplanes of all models and sizes. But after all that, one pilot has risen above the rest to plant her foot as the fastest pilot in the world. Please give a rousing round of applause for the winner of the Speed Week Championship of 1941... Willemina Sorenstein from the United States of America! Better known to her friends as Billie! Now here she is; accepting the jewel-encrusted gold trophy. Alongside her are her triplet sisters; Tillie, the team's ace mechanic; and Millie, the genius behind the design of their racing plane, the Chili Pepper!\n\nThese three have indeed come a long way to be here on the podium. They first entered the tournament in 1939, and showed great promise. That endeavor came to a tragic end, however, when Billie lost power to both engines during a test flight, and was forced to ditch in the ocean. Billie survived, and spent fourteen days on a deserted island without a stitch of clothing. The Chili Pepper, however, was wrecked; having lost its wings, engines, and pontoons in the crash. A salvage operation was mounted, and the fuselage was recovered. After much bickering and soul-searching, the Sorensteins decided the only thing they could do was put it back together again.\n\nThe sisters got their plane put back together just in time for the Speed Week tournament of 1940, and did very well for themselves; only to come second to one of their own countrymen. Nevertheless, they went at it for a third time. The tournament was tight; featuring high-profile pilots in truly revolutionary machines. The final race was a spectacle to behold, but Billie managed to pull off a narrow victory; beating out the German entry by two seconds. Now, of course, the sisters reap their well-earned rewards. Millie and Tillie are rightfully proud of their sister; And for this glorious moment, Billie Sorenstein is the fastest pilot in the world.\n\nThis is my tribute to the magnificent artist and storyteller, Warren Hutch. He created these awesome characters, and many others besides. Through the use of his incredible art and his excellent paraphrasing, he was able to tell some amazing stories. Tragically, he passed on in early 2020. I... miss him, incredibly. Warren was my personal idol. His combined artistic and storytelling talents made for something that most artists and storytellers (myself included) can only dream of achieving. But I did have the privilege of knowing him. I even drew a few pictures for him; and he said that he really liked them. Coming from someone like him, that's one of the best feelings there is.\n\nThank you, Warren. You were gone too soon, and the world is a far worse place without you.
